The patio is a great place to hangout on warm nights. Their cocktails are great. It so happens that on the patio, with ordering a cocktail you got a cigar for free as well on one of the nights I was there, which made the night even better. It seems a pretty classy place, but I don't know how late it stays open or how the food is. I'd like to go back when I'm a little more prepared for the place. Definitely worth visiting!
Review Source:The night was dark. Stars speckled the night sky like far away candles. Clouds swirled above as though a spectral presence would soon descend upon Wichitans. The gas lamps hovering over Old Town lit up the cobblestone streets as horses pranced by with riders wearing day coats imported from Italy. Men in top hats wrapped their arms women wearing elbow-length white silk gloves. Romantic duos navigated the bustling city with finesse, stopping only at the most swanky of joints for a quick drink after an evening spent applauding Les Mis.
Oeno was the perfect destination for these speakeasy seekers. With a dark inside and plush leather couches surrounding tables, Oeno seems like the living room of a sommelier's dream home. The wine list cannot be reckoned with - whether you're searching for a crisp Riesling from the Rhinehessen or an okay, warming Merlot from Chile, the pleasant staff at Oeno will be willing to recommend something for your current mood.
The food is delectable and can be personalized to any palate. Craving an exotic Lavosh with a blend of cheeses? Oeno has it. Desiring some drunk-garlic bread munchies? Oeno has it. Delivered with finesse, Oeno is your spot in Old Town...where sultry and sexy meet fun and fabulous.
We stopped in here for a few drinks and a small bite to eat. My husband and a wine flight, which was delicious. Â I ordered a mojito per our waitresses recommendations. Â It was good, but it was so full of fruit and ice... there wasn't much room for drink. Â I was a little disappointed. Â We did order a cheese tray, and were impressed with the amounts of cheese and fruit on the tray. Â The cheese was very cold, and would have been better served a bit warmer. Â
Seating is cozy, and this would be a great place to go with a group of friends, or for a double date. Â The menu looked good. Â If I am ever in the area again, I will give dinner a try.
Amazing drinks. Haven't had any food yet but the drinks are perfection! I spent the evening here with a great group of friends in the outdoor patio. It was the perfect final weekend together before we go our separate ways. All of the servers were friendly and eager to ensure we were enjoying ourselves.
The only downside was a group of ladies sitting next to us and eavesdropping on our conversation...seriously?
I'm not familiar with their regular service, but I did make it for one of their wine-tasting, food pairing nights while staying in Wichita last week. The wine was very good, the food was okay, and the staff was maybe having a bad night. Overall, the $245 bill for myself and my three friends, including the required 38% gratuity, was certainly a bit over priced.
The food was okay at best, and they are apparently under the impression that the only requisite for gourmet food is that it's served in tiny portions. The salad was okay - about as good as olive garden, the steak was about the size of a silver dollar and dry, and the potato/cheese concoction that was dabbed onto it was tasty, but nothing to rave about.
The staff isn't familiar with wine etiquette, as they used the same wine glasses for each wine, and they even filled a glass with red while it was still half full of white. So not pro. And they would walk by and shove the plates under our faces taking no account of whatever was in their way, other plates, arms, or whatever - they would simply sneak up behind us and shove them in there without even a simple "excuse me".
I would expect this kind of treatment at a state sponsored soviet cafeteria, but not at a supposedly gourmet dinner that you pay dearly for. I would not recommend this wine tasting event to a friend.
Good wine list, decent pour in nice glassware. However the prices are slightly high and the service not as friendly as expected for Wichita - $8.80, with tax, for a glass of Shiraz...fine Shiraz, but not great or excellent Shiraz. After tip, it was $10 for a glass of wine in Wichita...ugh. The atmosphere is OK...not that great, but trendy and decent - pretty good for Wichita.
Review Source:My best friend was getting married so the wedding party and company stopped in for a drink after the rehearsal and before the rehearsal dinner. Â I had the "On Your Mark" which was fresh and delicious. Â The bar was hip and fresh looking and our server was good. Â Unfortunately I didn't get his name but he was attractive and had longer curly hair. Â He had a great personality and really seemed like he enjoyed his job. Â If I lived in Wichita, we'd definitely be back.
Review Source:This is a good place to grab a drink in an intimate setting. That is until the D.J. starts playing on weekend nights and then it is a pretty fun place to dance.
It is known for it's wine (obviously), but I prefer the Drop Top Amber Ale. It is a great beer and I highly recommend it!
The patio is a nice place to hang out when the weather is warm.
Try the flatbread pizza.
I love this place...it is softly lit, classy and i love the sleek furniture.
They make a pretty good Dirty Maritni here too! The few friday's I have been here there was a live band and another time (most recent) a DJ.
Their Tapas are really yummy too. The Hummus and the Cheese & Fruit are delish!
Having gone here twice I have mixed feelings on it.
The first time I was here was for a tasting menu, which was quite enjoyable. Â The chef while had a few disappointing dishes overall I was impressed with the creativity and general flavor presented in all the dishes. Â With that experience as a background and only having checked to see the closing time of 2am I eagerly rushed there when some family flew in and arrived very late into the evening.
I was disappointed to find out that generally speaking they only have tappas and other finger foods. Â It is not a foul on them but rather me for not checking but still I feel Oeno could deliver quality dinner if only a small selection of them. Â I did return later that night and have drinks. Â The wine selection while thorough lacks in my mind depth for a wine bar. Â I would have liked to see more than one Malbec on the menu for instance. Â The wines they do stock however are reasonably priced for the quality of the wine served. Â
The mixed drinks while not suitable for a manly man such as myself, ok so maybe I ordered a few but that's just between you me and the internet, Â looked...ok tasted great. Â
Come here for the alcohol and finger foods don't expect to get a full meal however.
I ran through the first three of Empire Restaurant Group's stable fairly quickly after moving to Wichita, but it took me a while before completing the quartet with a visit to Oeno. Their "Savor the Summer" event served as a good reason to check them out. This special event was a four course menu served with paired wines. For those who don't want to read a lengthy breakdown: the event was only serving approximately fifty people, but it was clear Robert Irvine wasn't managing the cooking in the back - some dishes suffered due to issues with service, while others were just poorly constructed, and in didn't really serve as a good showcase for what Oeno has to offer.
The first course was a Thai-spiced jumbo shrimp in a coconut curry broth. Served alongside some rice noodles and garnished with cilantro, the grilled shrimp was nicely prepared, even if it was underseasoned for what you might expect for something that's described as "Thai-spiced." I would have rather it be a coconut curry SAUCE and not a coconut curry BROTH, as I thought it was thin. Still, the flavors there were bright and matched well the the Riesling that was paired with it.
Things took a turn for the worse with the pork scaloppine over fettuccine with lemon chive sauce. Fried foods do not typically fare well the longer they are left sitting, and the problem is exasperated when they're covered in a sauce and left to wait. As a result, the breading on the pork was unpleasantly soggy. More importantly, the pork was incredibly bland, and the issue wasn't helped by the sauce, which tasted of little more than straight cream. The fettuccine was overcooked and even clumping, though this is one of those things I imagine suffers when preparing food for a crowd. The Vietti Barbera seemed to me like an odd pairing, as the strong tannins and mineral flavors of the wine overwhelmed whatever delicateness the pork was attempting to achieve. With that being said, I'm far from being a sommelier, so take my wine criticisms with a grain of salt.
The meal got better with the peppered duck breast, dark cherry bernaise sauce, and potato torte. Served simply, the smoky, gamey duck works well with fruit flavors like the cherries in the sauce, and the potato torte and caramelized onions continued the balance between sweet and savory. The strong notes of the cabernet served to stand up to the duck very well, too.
The last course is the one that everyone remembers the best, and the white chocolate bread pudding was easy to make for a crowd and tasted great. It's hard to screw up bread pudding.
Even after three months of exploring Wichita's restaurant scene, the restaurants of the Empire Restaurant Group are amongst the only places in town attempting to elevate the culinary landscape of the ICT, so I applaud their throwing of events like these. Despite this, I can't ignore the shortcomings in the dishes - especially the pork - and the issues with service - namely, almost all of my dishes being served to me at best lukewarm. I'm sure Oeno fares better when they're preparing one dish for one person, but that doesn't excuse the meal I had. I may not know how to pronounce the name of the place, but Oeno is still a great choice for someone looking to have a slightly more sophisticated dining experience in Old Town Wichita.
I'm generally not a fan of Wichita. Â It may have something to do with the fact that I have so many family members who live in Wichita and have had to endure a great many weddings here growing up (and I hate weddings!), but I was impressed by Old Town. Â Even though I didn't have wine at the Oeno Wine Bar (I was definitely tempted by their Argentina Malbec), I thought the place had great drinks, decent prices, good service, but more importantly, live music that I didn't hate! Â Of course the perfect weather that night didn't hurt either.
If you happen to visit, I definitely suggest their cocktails. Â I wish I remembered their names, but one was a tequila/ginger ale combo and my other favorite had Maker's Mark, and I'm not usually a whiskey fan. Â My friend and I also sampled their bruschetta, both the original and the pear/caramelized onion/goat cheese, and we were not disappointed! Â
I'm definitely more optimistic about Wichita after visiting Oeno.
Decor was fine, lighting was a little too dark for my tastes. Â But enough to read a menu.
I had the two cheeses with fresh fruit... Havarti with Horseradish and chives, and Maytag bleu. Â They were served cold. Â Has no one told the staff here that cheeses are best served at room temperature? Â Other than that, my order was fine. Â
Friend ordered the flatbread pizza... I can't remember which one... unimpressive. Â
I think I will seek out specific waiters the next time I go...the first guy that served us was inattentive, interupted me during conversations...second waiter (where the first one went, I have no idea) was a sweetheart.
Will probably be back...
There are two main spaces - an outdoor area with cafe-style seating, and an indoor lounge area. Â I sat inside, so I'll just be reviewing that part.
This place pretty spacious, and is set up well, so there are a lot of small seating areas that each have a couple couches and chairs and a table. Â Each one feels kind of secluded from the others, even though they are right next to each other. Â It's a plus. Â There was a jazz trio playing outside, and the music wafted in through the open door, which added a nice background to the evening. Â Overall, I liked the vibe.
I didn't try the food, but the drinks menu was well put-together. Â There were quite a few wines that represented many varieties and locations; there were a couple of interesting house special cocktails, and they had a few micro brews I'd never heard of. Â I tried a wine, a mixed drink, and a beer. Â My mojito was overly sweet, but I liked the beer and wine. Â Prices for mixed drinks were a little high for Wichita, but beer and wine seemed reasonable.
One think I should note is that the design of the couches forced you to either sit far back or lean forward on the edge. Â Anything in between was uncomfortable. Â Next time I'll try to sit outside.
Came here for the first time tonight, and I have to say that I had a pretty good experience compared to some of the reviews I've read about it!
My friend and I came here after seeing a movie at the Old Town Warren, and while the outside patio was packed (it was a gorgeous night tonight!), indoors had plenty of seating. It wasn't totally dead indoors, but it wasn't so crowded either. I would have preferred to sit outside, but it's all good.
I was impressed by how big the place is when you walk in. It doesn't seem like it from the outside, but there is plenty of seating, arranged sporadically around the room, a combination of high tables, plush couches, and what I can only describe as "velour easy chairs."
As soon as we had scoped out where we wanted to sit, a host/server brought us menus, and I was happy to learn that on the tapas menu, they featured the wildly delicious queso with corn from Sabor. (not all that surprising when you know that the guy who owns Oeno also owns Sabor and Uptown Bistro). There were a few selections from Uptown Bistro too, and I thought it was pretty nifty that they integrated the restaurants into the menu like that. The menu also had a decent, although not large, selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. Â Maybe a bit pricey, but not awful.
Because we were served at our seats, we didn't have to order from the bar at any point, so I can't comment on that. I thought our server was great though. She wasn't overbearing, and she came to check on us the perfect amount of times, and didn't push the check on us. She was friendly, but not overly intrusive in my friend's and my conversation, which I appreciated.
It was a bit dark in there, but there was plenty of ambient lighting. There wasn't any live music tonight, but the stuff they were playing was good, if not eclectic.
I'd come back here with friends any time I'm in the mood for something different in town.
I have to get dragged everytime a group of friends want to go here.  First of all, Oeno is so pretentious.  It trys to play out this "trendy metro vibe", but fails to impress me.  The drinks are subpar too.  I ordered a beer that wasn't even cold.  The next morning - I felt hungover and  I threw up even though I only had that one beer.  The last time I was there, my friend who is pregnant was in town.  She wanted a virgin daquiri, but the waitor said they were out - virgin colada, OUT. Then she wanted some apple juice.. OUT.  Are you serious?  She ended up having tonic water with lime.  I felt so bad for her.  Gosh, I really don't like this place.
Review Source:OK environment, and the outside patio looked like a cool area (which was crowded on a 65+ degree night the day after Christmas. Â WTF.)...there was some live acoustic music going on, and the guy was pretty talented and sticking to non-annoying covers.
Really good menu selection, and the tapas choices looked good. Â The main area is dark but the lit up columns in the room give off enough light. Â
One of the bartenders was kind of a dickbag to my friend. Â Kind of barked orders, was very curt, etc. (and this was not a crazybusy night). Â I'm not sure she noticed it, but I did. Â Save the attitude for when you're not trying to get tips, dude.. Â
Bonus: Seeing a hammered couple suck FACE at a table in the middle of the place, with their 3rd-wheel friend awkwardly playing with her phone right across from them. Â That sucks, lady.
I came here one evening and had a virgin penia colada (wich had no flavor and was tiny) and some Tapa with a friend.  We had asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with a side of fried quail eggs and soybean hummus served with pita chips. The presentation and decor was nice and the food was good. But it bugged me that  there was TVs with sports on it. It doesn't scream classy. But it is nonsmoking. So probably I will be hanging out here if I decided to go out at night in Wichita.
Review Source:Great atmosphere. Great bar. Comfortable seating that makes you just want to stay and stay! Friendly staff.
Had the cheese tray with fresh fruit - very interesting selection and very tasty!
Looking for something different and fun - this is the place.
Drawback - parking can get crazy because of its location in the Old Towne area near the Warren Theater.
Hope this place sticks around!
