Just okay. During a recent visit to Longmont, I ate twice at Old Chicago. Each time I had one of what they called their "artisan" pizzas. One was prosciutto and mushroom, and the other was pepperoni.
I am a Chicagoan. That means I've eaten a lot of pizza. A lot. The prosciutto and mushroom was the better of the two. It had a strong but subtle flavor. The crust was well-cooked. I liked it a lot, and would have it a again.
The pepperoni on the other hand . . . meh. A lot of cheese. Not a lot of pepperoni. And what happened to the crust? It was kind of mushy. Disappointing. It was probably better than you'd get from a 7-11, but it certainly wasn't better than any other slice of pepperoni pizza I've had in my entire life.
Service was fine. A waitress named Jess was very professional and prompt.
Decor is very traditional Chicago-style stuff. I thought it was very ironic that I traveled a thousand miles to eat Chicago-style pizza. And the place does resemble oh so many pizza places/bars in and around Chicago, so I guess you could say it's authentic. The menu does include deep dish pizza and Italian beef. If they included Chicago-style hot dogs (no ketchup, with celery salt, on sesame seed bun), they'd complete the trifecta of traditional Chicago high-caloric food.
I did not have beer, so can't comment on that. Would be nice, though, if they could get Old Style. Now that's Chicago!
Great beer selection, we've always been treated well by the staff and enjoy the food. However, it's really never anything special - their pizza's are a step up from Domino's / Pizza Hut, however not as good as a good local or home made pizza.
That being said, I would go to Old Chicago's any day of the week and would walk away happy and full. Unfortunately there is just nothing that really stands out about them, other than they have a lot of good beers on tap.
I love this place! This is one of the things I miss about Colorado the most. My wife and I had our second date there way back when. Everything on the menu is good. From the pizza to the fries everything comes out hot and fresh. I have never had a bad meal there. The beer is nice and cold, service is great even during busy times.
also ask for the jerk fries. It is a spicy seasoning salt that is sprinkled on the fries.
LOVE THIS PLACE!
I had really amazing pizza here once but the last time I went it was not good at all...soggy and falling apart when I picked it up.
Out of the last 5 times I went there, service was good for 2 of those times. The others, the waiters were completely rude and unfriendly.
I like that I can get some midnight munchies besides fast food places....it's good if you're really hungry.... But honestly what do you expect from these types of restaurants? Nothing spectacular.
I will never go there again. I've had multiple bad experiences; Not just with food, but also the staff.
First time we went there, it was for a friend's birthday, a small small gathering of just 3 people to celebrate. It was empty in there, so we knew they weren't busy; But they never took our drink orders. We ended up having to get up and flag down a waitress after half an hour. We waited about another half hour to actually GET our drinks, and an hour ON TOP of that for food. So far, two hours in, just getting our food.
They sat a mother and daughter behind us just before getting our food. Remember this. The broccoli in our friend's food, who's birthday it was, was dirty. Not sure if past the date, something, but it was.... Awful. While we were tasting his food [and being as disgusted as him], the waitress came back and MOVED the mother and daughter to another section. Away from us.
And proceeded to steer clear of our section, so we couldn't get any help. We had no water/drinks, anything; We had asked for more when we got our food. But since they were ignoring our section, where we were now left alone, we couldn't get any service. Birthday Boy took his plate, and went directly to the kitchen, to wait for the waitress. Lo and behold, he caught her VERY quickly, and gave her the plate for at -LEAST- to get it remade.
As he made his way back to our table, we hear the kitchen ROARING with laughter. That was the icing on the CAKE for the horrible service. Not to mention, when the manager came by to talk to us, he was just.. Condescending. And only wanted to give HALF OFF for the plate he COULDN'T EAT because it was BAD. Even though we'd been waiting so long and got NO SERVICE. It was just rude. Didn't go again for nearly a year.
When I went back second and third times, it was.... Alright. Mediocre, but nowhere NEAR as bad as it had been the first. So, went there a fourth time.
Our food took forever. They had forgotten to tell us that they substituted a meat in my roommate's calzone because they were out, let alone -asked- if it was okay. The meat was entirely different, and not even spicy. I'd gotten a steak and potatoes, and it was very dry, even a little burnt. I toughed through it, giving up since this was 'Just how Old Chicago Was'. I notice something under the potatoes.
There was a curly hair UNDER my potatoes. RIGHT THERE. I have straight, short hair, and it was too long to be my roommates'. Not to mention I hadn't even touched the potatoes yet.
I stopped eating right there, and we paid/left. I puked in their parking lot. Haven't been there since. Intolerable.
Well........ our waiter was a big cocky, arrogant d-bag. He tossed the coaster AT my mother, forgot our straws, was giving us attitude while we were ordering..... it was TOTALLY unnecessary.
Food was -- meh...... We got a pepperoni, sausage, & mushroom pizza. There were ginormous chunks of garlic in literally every bite. Nowhere in the description does it say garlic chunks. It was gross. We also tried a make your own 1/2 off calzone which was good. I'd only go back for this special.
Within a month, I have been to Old Chicago for 3 times.
The Chicago style Pizza is my fav. Chicago 7 or Hawaii. Meat Me is good but a little bit too heavy.
I also tried Lunch Box Calzone Combo once. It makes all the stuff inside and give it a good shape. Not as tasty as Pizza but it's still a good choice for lunch.
We went to try the Pizzinis, which is basicly a version of the calazone, with a bit less bread and not as heavy. They were darn good and we enjoyed everybite of the ones we tried. This place is a paradise for beer lovers as they have 2 pages of beer on the menu and you can even do a flight of 4 different beers. Great place for some pizza or to watch a game. Staff were friendly and all in all a good time was had by all. If youw ould want to see pictures feel free to check out our blog
Review Source:Have stopped in a few times since moving to Longmont this month...OC has the best beer selection in Longmont, from locals on draft to a good bottle selection. Like an earlier reviewer said, the Pepperoni rolls are a must have for an app. Service at the bar is very good...with quick refills. Bartenders are on a first name basis with a large proportion of the bar customers..happy hour deals are excellent with half price apps and buck off draft beers, perfect to watch the east coast sports I love to catch. I'm becoming a regular for the trivia contest on Sat nights...well done!!
Review Source:I go here every time time I am in Colorado, about twice a year. Love it. The staff is friendly and efficient, the food is great, the prices right. From pizza to cheesecake to salads I have never had a bad meal. The Sicilian pizza rolls are a must have, spicy peperoni and cheese wrapped in bit site pizza dough and a pizza dipping sauce. They do Chicago style pizza or you can get a thinner crust is it's you style. I have only had the Chicago style and it was great, very filling, fresh ingredients and a nice spicey sauce with a crispy fresh made crust.
There is bar area you can eat with tv's and pool and video games for more of a party atmosphere or a separate restaurant area for family dinning, something fro everyone I think.
The beer selection is excellent something for everyone and they rotate them often for new choices. I have been a World Beer Tour members for years now and get a new shirt or treat each visit.
There is an Internet jukebox so you can download whatever you want to listen to while playing pool and a video game lounge when you realize you suck at pool!
When I lived in Longmont, I came here just about every week with my friends for what we called "The Beer and Pool Extravaganza." Â And on my recent trip back, we revisited the BPE. Â The Beer and Pool Extravaganza always starts out at a booth in the bar for dinner. Â Since I have cut chicken out of my diet (for the most part) since leaving CO, that left me with a very easy choice for dinner: nachos. Â Seriously, I don't know what it is about Old C's nachos, but they are so damn good. Â Our waiter was a guy named Greg that has worked there forever, and actually remembered me from 4 years ago when I used to go there regularly. Â He helped me get back on track with my beer tour, as I had lost my card at some point. Â I found that I was 83 beers into my third tour, and also discovered, sadly, that you can now only add four beers onto your tour a day instead of the 6 it used to be. Â What a shame.
We moved over to a pool table, and parked it there for the rest of the night. Â Greg kept our beers and mini pizza (yummy) coming until the very end. Â I am pleased to say that reliving the Beer and Pool Extravaganza was just as good as it was back in the day. Â It had a blast and Old Chicago had a lot to do with that.
Yuck. Â Everything in the bar area was sticky. Â People in the room were businessmen staying at the nearby hotel, teenagers, and people you just don't want to see. Â
The food was bad. Â Ordered calzones. Â Wasn't sure if the dough was cooked all the way through. Â The ingredients in my create your own weren't available to taste. Â It was completely masked by all the cheese inside. Â the boy ordered the meatso whatnot calzone and the plate looked like it had collected all the drippings from the kitchen. Â The little bitty cup with marinara was watery and flavorless. Â
I don't know if it's just the Longmont location. Â I've had good grub from OC at the LoDo location, Colo Springs location and a few spots in the TC.
Avoid this place. Â Find pie somewhere else in Longmont.
The Veggie 7 pizza here is possibly the best veggie pizza I've ever had. What makes it good are the inclusion of green chiles. Green chiles make everything better (doesn't it, burgers at The Counter in Palo Alto, California?).
This location doesn't have the personality of the Boulder location which looks like it's been there for years (whether or not it actually has).
