STAY AWAY!
This was the WORST and most insulting meal I can remember having. Â
I let the waitress know that the curry she said was 'the best thing on the menu' was drenched in white pepper with very little curry in it, and was very bitter / hot vs. spicey or curry-like. She did not seem surprised, saying the chef was new. Â
Even though I left half the meal (I ate half, in misery, out of pure starvation), and after the waitress appeared to have talked with the manager on duty, the restaurant charged me full price.
The waitreess gave me 2 drink coupons for 'another time' Â - which I left there - since feeling ripped off for $16 and hungry, having wasted my dinner break before going back to work, does not encourage me to come back, and ruined my evening. Â Â
Restaurants make an occasional mistake. BUT when was the last time you couldn't eat the food - no one was surprised - and the restaurant wanted you to pay full price for it anyway??
I had the misfortune of driving from Denver for an event at this location just recently and if you ever have the desire to do that I highly reccommend you don't. I looked over their website before going and it seemed like a decent enough place untill I got there.
$8.00 for a 20oz pint of Guinness or Smithwicks??? $7.00 for the bog standard 16oz pint. I have had Guinness and Smithwicks all over the metro area and here is a sample of what you would pay for it, The Irish Rover: $5.50 for 20oz Pint, Doughertys: $5.50 for 20oz pint, Katie Mullens: $6.50 for 20oz pint, the Irish Snug: $5.50 for a 20oz pint. Conor O'Neills in Boulder $5.50 for a 20oz pint. To make matters worse, they advertize much lower prices on their website.
To add insult to injury, the food was overpriced and terrible too for what I would consider MEDIOCRE bar food. For basic bar fare for myself, mygirlfriend my daughter and her friend, both of whom only drank water, 2 20oz pints of Smithwicks @ $8.00 ea. 2 glasses of red wine @ $9.00 ea. it came to $102.00!!!
To top it all off it was busy because of the event and the staff could not handle it yet they knew well in advance the numbers that would be attendiing.
The only place I have spent that kind of money on a pint of Guinness was in NYC in downtown Manhattan where I believe the rent is a little higher.
Avoid this psuedo Irish Bar at all costs, it is a rip off, the food is bad and the service worse. Frequent the other locations I mentioned above where you will get better food, better service at reasonable prices with a more authentic Irish feel.
their burgers used to be outstanding, the place used to be my favorite place to have Burger and beer, but Last visit was something different. I ordered medium rare cooked Burger but  it was too well done and dry. buns were smell of burnt.  it was served so fast after I ordered, so I guess I got precooked and reheated burger.
I really hope it was only that time.
New menu, new chef. FINALLY
The menu is short and sweet and everything seems like it was well-thought out and planned. I had the corned beef flatbread and it was delicious. But there were several other options that looked great too - such a nice change from when I would sadly scan the menu and just pick something out of desperation and hunger.
OLI is now an old town option instead of something I would forbid. Hooray!
Aw shoot! We used to love this place, Â but it has really taken a down turn. This makes me sad because it was rockin' way before the rest of Louisville was, and now it seems to be hanging on by a thread. The menu still sounds wonderful but the actual food is poorly prepared. Overly salty wings. Ceviche that is 50% onion and dried out. Fried Dill Pickles that were way overcooked. Just simple things that shouldn't have been too hard to get right. Guess we'll have to say goodbye to this old standby.
Review Source:Nice location and one of the few places where you can find parking in this area but like previous reviews I think the food is overpriced. Personally I think if you go somewhere like this you should be able to get away with lunch for $7-8. Most of the sandwiches, burgers, etc start at $11 and go up from there (no beverage). I got the 1/2 sandwich and soup which tasted great but for  $9 I would have liked to have leftovers; nope and I was hungry later. I'm not a big eater and it is very rare for me to clean my plate at a restaurant but I did here. On the plus it was fast and EMPTY  at 2 pm on a Friday; waitress was nice. Expand the menu with reasonable lunch prices and I'll come back.
Review Source:This a great little spot with a lot of history. There's a complete history of the place on the place settings when you sit down that's fun to read. It explains the paintings on the inside and some other interesting details about Louisville's history. It's a fun museum that just so happens to be a bar, a bar with decent food at that.
First of all i wanna get my most major gripe off my back. The main reason i don't eat here as much as I'd like are the prices. It's generally out of my budget but given the income level of many people in Louisville, it might be in your budget. You can easily spend $30 on a dinner for two here, throw in a few beers and your gonna be over $40 really fast!
But as for the food here i love it. It's homey Irish food. Everything I've had here has been well made and delicious. I love the Sheppard's pie. I'm glad my mom likes the food here too, we tend to go here when i visit her in Louisville.
Though its expensive the rustic atmosphere and the quality of the food makes this a place i like, even though i can't afford to eat here often.
I'm sorry, but the totally awesome atmosphere can't disguise the fact that the food and service are terrible. While we were waiting for our food, the cook walked out of the kitchen (where he'd been singing at the top of his lungs), still singing, made himself a drink and ambled back to work. I felt like the staff was just hanging out, and didn't really care about getting orders right or serving people quickly. I get having a relaxed workplace, but I'm not sure I would say they were working. Took forever to get our food, and when it came out, my breakfast corned-beef had cabbage on the side. The waitress took it back and swapped it for the right entree, but I hate sending stuff back, and it predictably entailed sitting around even longer. So, yeah, not worth returning.
Review Source:Old Louisville Inn is pretty to look at, but that's about it. I feel bad giving such a neat place a bad review, but the food, service, and prices just plain suck. My husband and I came in on a weekend morning, and the place was completely dead inside; however, there were a few servers working. This didn't stop us from having to sit around in this place for two whole hours waiting for our waitress to take her sweet time coming over to serve us. I'm pretty sure there was a good 30 minute interval between her visiting our table.
As far as the food, it was overpriced and very bland. It all looks good on the menu, but then it comes out and tastes like nothing and you're that much poorer for bad food. I would skip this place.
Despite the fact that I found OLI's to be pricey, I would have rated it as average if I had not witnessed the OWNER of this establishment who was clearly INTOXICATED trying to FIGHT a few of his patrons over splitting a a bill among multiple cards. Yes - physical altercation.
If that's your policy, maybe put up some signage or be a little lenient, but I don't think it warranted the drunken hostility he displayed. Oh- and DON'T try to fight your customers under any circumstances. Especially when you market yourselves as family friendly. There's no excuse for behavior like that, I don't care if it's a holiday. It was totally unprofessional.
We left immediately and will not be going back ever.
Didn't have a great experience yesterday... I will say it was during the Louisville Street Fair so maybe that was the reason...
We had four adults and a toddler and an infant and they gave us a very very small table since the place was packed. We sat there about 20 min before we had to ask someone to assist us... Once we finally got someone she said we just missed happy hour. Even though they forgot about us she said she was extremely sorry but there was nothing she could do about it, it was in the computers hands... boo.
Its a bummer, it was my first time going there. The tapas looked pretty good but I could not justify paying full price with the bad service and us crowded around a very small table.
Great staff, very friendly. The owner is one of the most gracious and hospitable guys you'll ever meet. A bit pricey, but the food is excellent for pub fair. The atmosphere is wonderful! The old handmade wooden bar is a gorgeous sight to behold. I'd give the OLI a five-star rating but they serve the beers in 14 oz. "pint" glasses. Otherwise, this place is a gem.
Review Source:I REALLY wanted to like this place. Historic location, decades old cowboy and coal miner bar along the train tracks, old west stories, bullet holes in the wood..... *sigh*
Awwww.... why did you disappoint me OLI? Main street only has about 8 places to eat in this town... couldn't you set the bar? I didn't enjoy the food... the service was awesome... the setting was really cool... but oh my... the food. WAHHHHH.....
I ordered the Romano Encrusted Chicken. I didn't like it. Served over couscous that was hard and cold (I'm not a big couscous eater so if it's supposed to be that way... yuck!), the chicken just did not impress. It was a bit dry and supposed to have a romano crust... I didn't get anything "romano" or "crust" about it. Seemed bland and just ... well... plain. My husband ordered the Beef Brisket and didn't care for it. His dish was also very dry and he said the sauce lacked flavor. My son (who is 7) ordered a cheeseburger which looked really good. He said it was yummy... but he's 7... I still can't tell if he's a food critic or a garbage can.
Sadly, I don't think we'll be back. We've been twice and have been disappointed both times. And for the first time, I actually feel badly about giving out a negative review.... I wanted to like this place... I had high hopes....I really did. Â
I guess I'm a sissy....
Beer and service were good! Â Otherwise, choose somewhere else. Â Two of us ordered the chicken vegetable soup, and it was so salty we had to return it. Â The hanger steak was also over-salted. Â The BLTA and tomato shrimp soup were OK for one in our party. Â Maybe a bad night for salt?
Review Source:I've eaten here maybe a dozen times over the past few years, and it seems that every time I come back, they've changed the menu and have fewer vegetarian options. Â I know I shouldn't expect much, since it is an "Irish pub" and all, but they once had maybe 4 or 5 choices and now it's pretty much down to two.
Unfortunately, I've never had anything here that I loved, but once upon a time they had a portabella mushroom sandwich that was pretty good, and I believe a veggie burger as well (neither are still available). Â Last weekend when I ate here, I had the nachos. Â I thought it wouldn't be an enormous 4-serving portion since it was listed under the "entree" section, but it was exactly that. Â Way too much for one person unless you haven't eaten for a week. Â They were actually pretty tasty, but obviously not the healthiest option. Â I took half of the portion home to reheat later.
The only other vegetarian entree I saw on the menu was the grilled cheese, and I think one of the salads was meatless. Â They did have a tapas menu with lots of smaller plate options, and a couple of those were vegetarian as well. Â I guess I just wish they'd do something a little different and come up with a slightly more unique option if they're only going to have a couple of meatless entrees.
Our waitress was very friendly but brought my husband a beer instead of the diet Coke he'd ordered. Â When I pointed out that he'd had a Coke, one was brought out but they charged us for the beer (she made a point of saying the Coke was "on them")! Â My husband isn't one to make a fuss so he didn't say anything (and he also drank it), but it was $5 so that wasn't a cheap mistake.
Overall, I think I want to like this place more than I do. Â The food is okay, the restaurant is cozy and the waitstaff is usually pretty good. Â The one big negative for me is the noise. Â The restaurant is tiny and it's literally impossible to have a conversation unless the person you're talking to is seated right next to you. Â When we go with my parents, and they're seated across from us at a booth, I can't hear a thing they say.
OLI is a place better-suited to having a drink with friends than to have a nice dinner with family or your sweetheart. Â I tend to eat here once or twice a year and that probably won't change. Â I was a little torn between two and three stars, but since my main problem with them is the noise and not really the food, I rounded up.
I went back for dinner a few nights ago with my wife and two 7 year old girls. Â The girls loved their food, which is good because their kids meals are actually a bit expensive for kids meals. Â Actually, all the food is expensive for pub food. Â The service was good, although the staff is still almost entirely high school kids which are not exactly experienced waiters. Â But, they are friendly.
Food was not great, and we left with a pretty expensive tab for two adults and two kids. Â A bit disappointing.
With over 100 years of history, a bunch of local brews on tap and a trough for a spittoon, how can you go wrong with OLI? Â The place has a small outdoor area, which faces a green space across from the local library. Â So get a book, hoist a pint (really it's a 20 ounce glass) and scarf down a burger while enjoying a relaxed afternoon at OLI.
Review Source:Great service, I never had an empty drink and didn't have to wait around for the waitress to come take my order plus she was in no way pushy about getting the order! Â When I couldn't decide between several dishes she talked each one up telling me about its preparation and helped me decide.
The food was great! Â Pub food at its best. Â I had the fish (mahi mahi) and chips and am looking forward to another visit to try the Reuben made with buffalo.
I had a damn good Reuben, served with waffle fries (sweet potato fries are optional). The service was quick, and our waiter was highly attentive. My lunch companion told me he has yet to have a bad meal there, and I have to believe him; the Reuben was just that good.
I have no pretensions concerning eating a meal in a bar. In fact, I can't think of a better place to eat a meal than in a pub; it saves you the hassle of deciding where to go for drinks afterward. I have to admit, I was here for lunch, so I have no idea how crowded it can get at night, but I can well imagine. I will, however, be bringing the wife back for date night.
