I've been a fan of this place for a while, especially as a local music venue (and for its milk shakes). The reason I was moved to review it today is that I stopped in for a snack before hitting the Farmers Market, and finally ordered one of their dogs. Really enjoyed it, and recommend it as a quick snack - especially before going next door to buy the healthy stuff :-)
Review Source:This place has such potential. Â But, I waited 30 minutes while in a hurry for a to-go order only to have pretty poor food. Â They need some design help and just overall organization. Â It looks like a business that had the "business" part as an afterthought. Â Again, tons of potential... and I really want it to work!
Review Source:Come for the intrigue, leave before the food gets to you.
I ordered a meatloaf sandwich. I got a piece of reheated meatloaf with a slice of american cheese. Â
The whole time I was eating the sandwich, the wife and I were treated to an infomercial on all the happenings at the place from the guy behind the counter.
After choking down the overpriced food, the guy chased us down the street (we had to park at the end of the block) because I didn't pay him correctly. (I had to punch in the total myself in the machine!) After I handed him the cash to make him go away, he had the audacity to try and bum a ride back to the restaurant.
Single worst dining experience I have had in Tucker.
I was here last Sunday. Â How was it? Â It was OK. Â Is there room for improvement? Â Certainly. Â And it seems like they're working on it. Â My understanding is that it is under new management so I was willing to give it a shot. Â
I ordered the Breakfast All Day (I LOVE breakfast for lunch or supper, but not so much for breakfast). Â It came with two eggs, choice of bacon or sausage, potatoes or cheese grits. Â For whatever reason they gave me the grits and the potatoes, and both were pretty darn good. Â I'm not much of a grits person but I tried them and they were fine. Â Oh. Â I also ordered one banana buttermilk pancake and that sucker was pretty damn good, too. Â
Since this isn't a Corporation and it's a 'mom and pop' type place I will likely go back to show support for local business. Â They do not have a lot of seating and what they have is more communal style, but that's fine with me. Â They also have live music which is a plus in my book.
I had such high hopes for this place and was so, so disappointed when I finally had a chance to eat there this past week. They seem to only be open for lunch during the week and given that my husband, youngest daughter and I were all home last Friday, we decided to check this place out. When we walked in, there were 4 other customers and just one guy working. Given that
he was serving, cooking, everything, it wasn't surprising that there were several unbussed tables. The first disappointment was the coke in a can I received after we ordered drinks. It was only then that I noticed there is no actual fountain at this fountain-themed restaurant despite the requisite counter.
For the food - I ordered the chicken salad on wheat, my husband chose the bbq and my daughter, a grilled cheese. Again, everything took longer than normal because of the lone guy and because of this, I was reluctant to ask for anything. My husband actually poured his own sweet tea refill. And sadly, the food was not worth the wait. My chicken salad has potential - lots of good sized pieces of chicken with celery - but it was a bit dry. It also came on crappy bread like nature's own or something like that. My husband's bbq was also dry. The sauce on top helped but you could still tell the meat was dry. The baked beans were only ok. Even my daughter's grilled cheese was meh. It's pretty hard to make a sub par grilled cheese IMO. We talked about trying an ice cream float but everything was taking so long that by the time we got our food and had finished eating, we just wanted to get out of there. The guy was really nice but I can't tell if this place really wants to be a restaurant or not. They really could use a make over, like a Food Network make over, where they come in and not only improve the food but also the decor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this restaurant can make some improvements and become a local favorite.
"Eek! Methinks not." That's how Yelp describes a one star rating.
I was getting my guitar fixed next door so I strolled on in here. Crickets. No, not actual ones, just the sound of them. There wasn't a soul in the place- No help, no customers. I left, walked around for 5 minutes, and came back. Sure enough the lady working here was on a bench out front. I sit down and I am the ONLY customer in the joint. I remained the only customer for the rest of my visit.
The place revolves around an old soda fountain from the pharmacy that previously occupied this space. There's a good bit of 50's memorabilia on the walls and some local band promotion posters. They have a stage and host bluegrass/open mic nights almost every night I believe.
I ordered a BBQ sandwich since a sign outside read something like, "Best BBQ Sandwich in Tucker." You'd actually expect this statement to hold some water as smaller towns often do have some good southern eats. The sandwich was as plain-jane as they come. Very fatty, dry meat in bland sauce on a plain bun. Honestly, the chips were the best part of the meal.
I got to enjoy all this while listening to Patsy Cline and her cronies.
Maybe next time I'll try the Cajun restaurant next door with the dancing alligator mascot out in the street...
