My fiancee and I were in the Lenox area looking at wedding venues with our parents and we needed a place to grab lunch. Â We came across the Old Heritage Tavern and thought it looks perfect. Â It had a fun, simple look to it and it was busy, so we assumed that it was good. Â As luck would have it, a party with the same number of people as ours was leaving as we came in, so we were able to get a table almost immediately. Â
Unfortunately, this was pretty much the end of our luck. Â Our waitress came over and offered us drinks, however when asked what beers were on tap she had no idea what we were talking about. Â Her response, "Ummm... what do you mean?" Â REALLY?! Â You work in a tavern! Â Once we explained to her it meant beers not in a bottle, she said, "Oh... ummm... I have no idea" and ran to the bar to find out. Â When she came back she stumbled her way through a partial list of available beers. Â She mentioned that they had BBC (makes sense being in the Berkshires) but had no idea which one. Â Actually, she was totally clueless that the BBC produced more than one type of beer. Â
Once we received our drinks and ordered our food, we never saw our waitress again until the bill came. Â Our food was delivered by a friendly young girl who soon discovered that one of our meals was not with the others. Â She disappeared for nearly 15 minutes before we grabbed an older gentleman who was waiting on a nearby table. Â He apologized and said he would look into it. Â Only then did the runner (NOT our actual waitress) returned to tell us that the meal had been delivered to another table and that they had to remake ours. Â In addition to the meal that was completely missing, they failed to bring us various other portions of other dishes, including dressing for a salad and condiments for a burger. Â
Once we actually did get our food, it was extremely mediocre. Â When our waitress finally reappeared with our check, she didn't apologize, or even mention, the various shortcomings of our meal.
Thought I wrote a review for this place, but Yelp keeps requesting since I "checked in" once. Â I must have been in a weird mood to do that.
Anyway, great local place that super casual. Â This is a tavern in every sense of the word - a bar that serves food but you would take your family to...at least before 9pm most nights.
They have music sometimes and the food is good to very good, depending what you get. Â Lenox has a lot of fancy places, this is where you go for a break from that or if you are a regular down to earth type. Â Gotta say I love the Spinach and Artichoke Dip!!!
Desperately Seeking ESPN.
Spending a glorious weekend in the Lenox area sampling the culture, fine dining and autumnal glory of the Berkshires region- the boy & I hadn't thought ahead to where we might be able to post up to catch his beloved Gators playing on Saturday afternoon. Â Go Go Yelp App.
Olde Heritage was one of the only things that popped up for sports bars in the area and it suited our needs just fine. With a couple of televisions scattered throughout the dining and bar area broadcasting the games of the day- we easily grabbed a seat and settled in for a couple hours. Â With only college football and cocktails on our to-do list, I can't speak to Olde Heritage's grub. I can say that if you're in the market for cheap cocktails and a friendly atmosphere, this place has you covered. The drinks list looked a bit like what my friends and I might have come up with after a long night out in college. "Uhhh what do we have....A Diet Fresca? Grape vodka? A fruit rollup? Ok cool!" But when they're charging next to nothing for heavy pours (between $4.50-$8 for pretty much any drink you'd like) the prices can't be beat. Â
Our waiter was friendly and quick with the next round- never giving us eye rolls when we got rowdy cheering for a good play. He even jumped in and chatted about Florida sports for awhile. Â I'd recommend it to anyone looking to catch a game in the Lenox area.
My girlfriend and I stayed in Lenox for two days to catch Christian McBride and Wynton Marsalis at Tanglewood. Â We stopped at the Olde Heritage the first night there looking for a casual tavern atmosphere, and some good food and drink. Â We ended up loving this place and coming back for dinner on the second night as well! Â The food was very good and the service was excellent to say the least. Â Our bartender Scott was great, and told us to try the Buffalo Chicken Soup if we were to stop in the next night. Â Of course we forgot, but Scott (who was running food the second night) came out to say hi to us, and upon us telling him we had already ate and forgot to try the soup, went back into the kitchen and got us two small tasting size bowls of the soup. Â The soup was amazing to say the least, a must try! It's that kind of little stuff that makes a place really stand out, along with the good food, good drink, and great prices! We highly recommend the Olde Heritage to anyone traveling to or through Lenox, and we plan to stop in again when we see another show at Tanglewood with out a doubt!
Review Source:The food is mediocre. It's generic and tastes like it came from a bag or a box or can. iI's not awful (inedible) but it's run-of-the-mill. There are two things that rescue this place from being a place I will never go again: the service and the prices. In a town where you can easily (and sadly) pay $14 for a plate of eggs the Tavern is probably one of the few reasonably priced places in town (but as they say, you get what you pay for). And the servers are lovely, attentive and genuinely nice so it's hard to give them a 1-star rating. I've eaten here (gasp) dozens of times. There are just sometimes when they are the only thing open in town and there are times when I just can't stand paying the crazy Lenox prices for a simple meal.
Review Source:My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it was good. Â The Cajun Fries were delightful as was the Baked Onion soup. Â I enjoyed a Guiness draft, nice and cold. Â The outdoor table was perfect for a sunset meal. Â The waitress Jackie was very attentive and was taking our order on an iPod. Â We were referred to this place by Tom Fiorini the sculptor from around the corner on Church St. Â Stop and see him and his humorous pieces.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I stopped here today for a quick lunch because it was the only restaurant on the street with shaded outdoor dining. The place is a little dive-y, but it was packed with folks who looked like "regulars". Â
Our food was okay -- a quesadilla and a chicken wrap -- but nothing special. Â Beers are affordable at $4 a pop and sitting outside is a nice treat on a hot day. Â The staff is friendly enough to make up (at least a little bit!) for the mediocre food.
Rumby's gone missing, so this is where we ended up. Had a couple of beers and just observed. The place had a few people there. Most of them were eating something. I didn't order any food, but it sure smelled good, also noticed a lot of it on the plates. The staff were very friendly. seemed like a nice place to hang out.
Review Source:Seemed like locals frequented this place. I like going where the locals go.
Interesting atmosphere which is good if  you like people watching, which we do.
Service was friendly but perhaps a little slow at times.
Good prices, especially considering the other restaurants in the area.
The food was pretty good. My husband really liked his pepper steak. I had the fish and chips - have had better but it wasn't bad.
Something you need to know is how to get in. There are two doors - one that looks like a normal entrance but is off to the side, and another that looks like it goes into someone's house. Both are fine to use for entry then just seat yourself.
I don't know if we just caught them on a bad afternoon or what - but my experience here sucked kinda hard.
At first, they weren't going to seat us because we were a party of 6, and apparently that was a couple people too many to accommodate. Luckily, a couple offered to move so we could all fit, but after that, the hits just kept comin'. Our waitress seemed extremely displeased with us from the get-go, and after we finally got to order, we waited for 50 minutes without hearing anything (I had only ordered a cup of clam chowder and a caesar salad, and I hadn't gotten either). Finally, after an hour, food came for 5 of us, leaving the 6th person high and dry for probably another 10 minutes (and she also forgot to bring my soup even though I had requested that it come first).
Anyway, after that episode, she kept neglecting to fill our waters even when we reminded her several times. Every time we asked her for something, she seemed like she'd been slapped in the face. By the end, we were all so pissed that we were thinking about giving her a 12% tip. When we got the check, we saw that 18% gratuity had been automatically added because we were a "big" party. Maybe that's a MA thing, but the restaurants I've worked in only add on 18% for parties of 8+. We sucked it up and paid without complaining, but of course it took her another 20 minutes to finally give us back our cards and receipts.
We stopped at Olde Heritage on the way home from Tanglewood for a couple of beers and some snacks. The bartender was great-- very friendly and accommodating. When we asked for menus, unaware that the kitchen was closing, she ran into the back to see if they'd stay open a few minutes longer. Everything on the menu seemed extremely reasonably priced, and while the food wasn't gourmet, it was perfectly fine.
Review Source:I can't believe the rave reviews this place has received. Â The only reason I put stars on my review is the helpful, hardworking and genuine staff.
That said, the food is awful. Â I would call it barely edible. Â I went once last summer and thought I would never come again but I found myself, yesterday, between shows at Shakespeare and Company, dealing with the tightness of my purse and the traffic generated by Tanglewood. Â I should have tried one of the tonier restaurants but a newspaper review describing long lines (there were none when I walked past) turned me off.
First of all, the food is not particularly cheap. Â It's not expensive but, for the quality, it is not cheap.
Second, while I don't remember what I had last summer, I do remember saying never again. Â
Yesterday, I had a steak sandwich which came with the universal accompaniment, fries. Â The steak had a lot of tendon in it. Â If I wasn't given a serrated knife, I would not have been able to chew it. Â The fries were unsalted (not a criticism usually for me as I dislike the taste of salt) but salting fries while they are hot guarantees the salt will melt and flavor the potatoes. Â Adding salt to cold fries does nothing and these were stone cold. Â They were over-cooked as well.
However, the wait staff was constantly in motion, filling the liquor supply, connecting new beer lines, talking to customers. Â Two waitresses attempted to take my order and I sat at the bar. Â I complimented the second as well as informing her that I had already placed my order. Â I left a large tip and wrote "great wait staff" on my bill.
Love this place! They had some of the best pizza east of Chicago; try the Hot Wings Pizza. The staff were gregarious and interesting, and they made conversation with many patrons. Great atmosphere, and perfect location in historic Lenox. Go here for a brew and pie before hopping over to Rumpy's!
Review Source:Lenox has a reputation for hosting some pretty tony restaurants. The Olde Heritage Tavern isn't one of them. What you've got here is a pub, slightly seedy looking inside, that serves up generous portions of some very tasty food at pretty cheap prices, honestly. If you're looking for good eats and not the pretentious atmosphere, this place is for real. And the waitresses are friendly and quick, too. The Baked French Onion Soup was crammed with onions, bursting with flavor and a thick cheese topping. The tuna for the salad, made at the restaurant, was just right for us, with only a little mayonnaise, served over a bed of fine lettuce (not iceberg, thank goodness). Add in solid selection of beers and you have a splendid lunch and four stars from us. Recommended!
Review Source:Does lunch time = nap time in Lenox? (On Memorial Day weekend?!) NO place was open!!!
Heritage open with outdoor seating = Fantastic...at first.
My partner had a Bloody Mary and it was G-O-O-D! I don't even like Bloody Mary's, and I kept stealing sips of it. Lots of horse radish and 'oomph'. The kind of Bloody Mary that puts a bit of hair on your legs. Yum!
That's about where the 'fantastic' ends.
Wings...OYE. Firstly, we ordered them as appetizers, but they arrived WITH the meal. The BBQ sauce must have been squeezed out of a bottle. The flavor was off, and the quality of the chicken...lets just say I was picturing a ginormous utility-sized bag of frozen wings that had been in the freezer since...last summer. They were awful. Any place with "Tavern" in their name should have better wings.
Heritage Burger was just OK. The Cajun fries were nicely seasoned but a tad on the soggy side. Partner said his tuna melt was good.
The biggest problem by far was the service. SLOOOOOWWWW. Our poor server, Gabby, was clearly handling too many tables. She was actually really sweet and apologized repeatedly to everyone for the delays, and it clearly wasn't her fault as she seemed very efficient and definitely had her hustle on. They really needed another server out there. Poor management?
Then, as we were waiting (and waiting...) for our check, an elderly woman waiting (and waiting...) for a table with her daughter complained about the wait and made mention of the heat, and was promptly offered a seat at our table...while we were still sitting there! Mind you, I would always gladly offer up my seat to any older person, or anyone in discomfort, but this woman seemed fine, and it just created an awkward social moment - sharing our table with these 2 complete strangers who promptly ordered 2 chardonnays and didn't even thank us or make eye contact. We accepted defeat and just surrendered the table, and waited off to the side for our check.
The woman who gave away our table with us still at it offered us 2 beers on the house, but we declined. A nice gesture, but where the hell were we supposed to drink them!!???
This isn't a fancy place, and if you're looking for that, there are better choices. Â However, when we're in Lenox, which is 3-4x a year, we always pop in here for moderately priced drinks and decent appetizers. Â We prefer sitting outside, but inside is a local/pub atmosphere. Â Frankly, many of the places in Lenox (see Nudel, Fin) can be a little pretentious and a lot pricy, this a nice break from that.
We've been many times, but our favorite was the Friday night we arrived in town tired from a long week, popped in for a beer and stayed all night enjoying the wings and pizza.
This would be a 4.5 star in my book...close to perfect
After being denied seating at 9 o'clock on a Saturday evening at Church Street Bistro because they were "closing" - despite lots of people finishing meals inside. Â We wondered looking for anyplace with activity and a decent menu. Â Church street restaurants blend together as pork, lamb, duck, crab cakes - very similar menus and atmosphere. Â We heard of a decent pub type menu on Housatonic street and went in search. Â Despite lack of signage - maybe because the road is under construction, we found the Heritage. Â Much more laid back crowd and you feel right at home. Â We had a side salad that was huge and fresh and about 6 bucks. Â For meals I had the pulled pork with sweet potato fries - the pork was a bit dry to my standards however any place with good crispy sweet potato fries wins me over. Â Wife had chicken ceasar wrap that was quite good, perfect amount of dressing, grilled chicken, fresh lettuce. Â Great service and the food was quite good and quite a value at $35 we were just as full for 1/3 the night before cost. Â
We enjoyed our meal so much that we went back the next night - this area was walking distance to the hotel. Â We had nachos loaded - large, layered, not too dry or mushy. Â I had the burger with another great round of spf - maybe it was the bottle of wine from the hotel and beers but the burger was amazing! Â Another salad that was just as good as the night before. Â I would highly recommend.
Just fantastic!! Â I was only there once and it was a great find. Â No nonsense food prepared perfectly. Â I had the salmon club wrap and sweet potato fries served fresh and hot. Â Oddly enough the cole slaw was the thing that caught my attention. Â How rare is that? Â I even paid for a second helping.
The drinks were cheap and very inventive. Â Just the fact that places like this still exist makes me very happy. Â Real food is a rarity these days and the Olde Heritage Tavern has it down right!
Pretty solid. Nice space, good burger, yummy fries, the quesadilla was a little dry and could have used some guacamole or something. The service was incredibly slow. It took us about fifteen minutes to even get acknowledged and we had to ask for the check - after the server brought us takeout boxes for our leftovers.
Not bad, but don't go when you're starving or short on time. A good place to relax.
I love the Heritage! Â Whether it be to grab a few drinks with friends or a bite to eat - you can't go wrong. Â Spinach and Artichoke Dip to Die for. Â Great Potato Skins. Sandwiches, Pizza and more. Â
They recently started serving breakfast and it's about time Lenox has a great breakfast place. Â
The staff is always friendly and welcoming.
Had a quick meal there after a show at Tanglewood. Â The place looks, sounds and acts like a decent pub, but the food is fantastic and more upscale than your typical pub grub. Â
The fiance had a garden burger which while standard stuff (pretty difficult to alter/screw up one of these) also came with some of the best fries I've had in recent memory. Â I had a small pizza with cheese and hot sauce (forgot the actual name of the dish) which was perfectly sized, just the right amount of crisp, and really rather tasty. Â I also noticed that they had one or two more upscale specials, for those with a more discerning palate.
The wait staff were friendly and pleasant although we did have to wait a little longer than average simply due to the crowded atmosphere (we were there at about 9:30 PM on a Saturday.) Â The pub itself is clean, with a decent amount of tables, some loud music playing and some big flat screens on the walls. Â Didn't have a sports bar feel, but it would be a good place to chill out and watch a game, and have a few beers.
All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place for a casual lunch or dinner. Â Great food, friendly staff and a very reasonable price.
Having spent 3 summers patronizing the Heritage, I have to knock them down to 3 stars (probably, it should be 2...but I can't bring myself to do that).
Why? Because it is next to impossible to get a drink at this bar. I tip very well, I am reasonably patient (I've worked in restaurants and my Dad was a bartender for many years), and I've come in here with some frequency both during the day and at night. Yet, I can never get a drink in here. I am always, always frustrated at how long it takes. I've stopped wanting to come here because of it. And that makes me sad.
