Train station turned restaurant this historic landmark was rebuilt after a fire that nearly destroyed it years earlier. The launching point for the Bedford Boys makes it a must stop for anyone visiting the area.

Ambiance: The restaurant is perfectly decorated with memorabilia from the past with a puedo ticket office, now the hostess station, greeting you as you walk in the door. The bench seats mimicking the one passengers sat upon while waiting their train and the long horizontal structure of the building bring it all together.

Staff and Service: Couldn't have asked for a more friendly and helpful group of individuals. From the multiple young hostesses to our server to the manager everyone was kind and quick with service

Dinner and Drinks: The bartender made my usual dirty martini perfectly. The bar itself was stocked with a fairly good supply of liquors but don't look for the "rare high end" brands of whiskey, vodka, etc. I started with the fired green tomatoes and they were perfect. I am a fan of this dish so I can a little critical but nothing wrong here. For my meal it was the Rock Island Ribeye, which was their prime rib thrown on the grill. I've had this before but the chef clearly understood the exact amount of time needed on the grill to make it right. The meal came with Sweet Potato Casserole, Creamed spinach and 3 types of bread in a single basket with a cinnamon butter. I finished the dish off with fresh coffee and the Three Berry Strudel. Everything was fantastic.

Cleanliness: clean and comfortably large bathrooms that are still based on the design of a transportation hub but modernized well.

Overall: 5 Stars. I love this place and look forward for the opportunity on getting back there one day. If you happen to dine here be sure to take the time to look at all the pictures, wall painting, clothing trunk and replica of the original station before your meal while waiting your desert. You'll be glad you did.

We stopped in for dinner while in the Smith Mountain Lake area for a wedding.   I searched Yelp when someone recommended we head to Bedford for dinner but wasn't specific about where to dine.

We pulled into a very busy parking lot and put our names down for the estimated 40 minute wait.  The place was a beehive of activity and it is where all the locals come for good food.  Our wait seemed short as we struck up a conversation with a local couple.  The friendliness of the people in this part of the country is really, really nice and such a change from the NY metro area.

The food was delicious.  We started with the fried green tomatoes that came with a tasty dill flavored dip.  We also had the pepper jack cheese sticks, which my husband loved.  (thanks for the tip Dawn R!)

I had the ribs and he had the chop steak- both so good and I was licking my fingers!

We couldn't muster the strength for the cheesecake- just too full!

Our waitress was a peach and allowed us to enjoy the food and order in a staggered way.  I love that southern speed!

Stopped in for lunch on my way up the Blue Ridge Parkway when I had a snow detour up in the mountains Friday.

Walked in and the owner personally made sure I was seated immediately.

My server gave me plenty of time to look at the menu. Ordered a crab cake sandwich with mash potatoes and broccoli .  Delicious and fast service.

The owner Harry came around to check n all the tables and we had a nice chat as I finished my lunch.  Told him when my wife and I are down this way I will stop in again. This establishment is a gem in a beautifully refurbished train station.
