My husband and I had Sunday brunch and the experience was, by far, one of the best I have had at a restaurant.  I have been in the food service industry for 15 years and am very picky about where we go to eat on the rare occasions we do anywhere.
The atmosphere felt very comfy but yet industrial/contemporary with stainless steel  tables, exposed piping, and uber cool artwork accented with purples and bright green.
Our server was Herman and he was super fabulous!  Very attentive and informative about menu choices.  The food was promptly delivered to the table after ordering.

The entire menu sounded delish and I was having a hard time deciding between a build-your-own omelet or the french toast.  Herman suggested the Apricot Stuffed french toast and I was glad that he did!!!  It was super amazing and tasty, I didn't even need to use the syrup!  It came with fresh cantaloupe, grapes, a pretty strawberry and 1/2 an orange.
My husband had the Leapin Lizard Breakfast which was 3 eggs cooked to order, bacon or sausage (he chose sausage), seasoned home fries and 3 pancakes.  This is a normal breakfast that he orders no matter where we go, but he usually has to have picante sauce to dump into the mix.  Let me tell you, he didn't even think to ask for picante sauce because the food was so well seasoned.  Now, on to the pancakes.  Oh. My. Goodness!  These were some of the tastiest pancakes we have ever tasted.  They were thin, but not crepe thin, and crispy on on the outside.  These pancakes tasted like fluffy sugar cookies!  You didn't even need syrup for them.  A small smear of butter (if any at all) and they were good to go!
I had asked to see the wine list and was very impressed at the selection and prices.  I opted for a split bottle of Mumm Sparkling Wine and it's fruitiness complemented my meal with such excellence I literally had tears in my eyes.  I also noticed that they keep Ch. St. Michelle "Eroica" Riesling on the menu and was very tempted to order a glass.  Maybe next time.
Herman informed us of the Happy Hour specials during the rest of the week and Thursdays sound like the day to go.  They have a Crown and Down Special and ribs that he says are "to die for".  We will definitely be back to check out the lunch and dinner offerings.  If it is anything like the Brunch, One Lazy Lizard can expect 5 stars from me in the very near future!
Awesome brunch and wine selection, comfy atmosphere and great prices!  Who can ask for much more?  I can't wait to go back!!!

We live in McKinney and had heard about "One Lazy Lizard" being a bit DIFFERENT from the other options around the McKinney Square - that is, that it has a funkier, edgier, more "urban" vibe - and we'd been wanting to give it a try.

We finally had a chance this weekend, when we went there for Father's Day brunch.  We were VERY impressed, and will definitely return.

The environment felt very contemporary and industrial, with bare concrete and exposed piping, accented in purples, electric green, and metallic tones.  Our kids loved that metal piping was used for interior door handles and the foot rail along the bar.  The artwork that was displayed was in-line with the slightly steam-punk ambiance of the place, which reminded us of so many "locals-only" intimate neighborhood restaurants in San Francisco, where we recently moved from.

Our brunch selections were OUTSTANDING, especially considering the price.  We started with a lovely bread basket of fruit breads and sweet scones served with whipped fruited butter, then moved on to entrees of pancakes (very light, with a pleasant zing of buttermilk), both of the signature breakfast combos (various combinations of nicely-done eggs, meats, cubed potato hash, and toast), and the huevos rancheros (which were very tasty as well - but note to the huevos rancheros addicts out there, this version is topped by a single roasted ripe green/red chile - seeds left intact for heat - instead of the more usual salsa mixture.  I would definitely ask for MORE of the roasted chile topping next time, but it was still very tasty).

We also sampled an absolutely fantastic plate of fluffy biscuits covered in redeye gravy - the base of real bacon grease was tastily apparent in the Lizard's gravy, not that vegetable oil-based crappy white pepper gravy that so many local restaurants try to pass off with their hockey puck biscuits!  Yuck.  The Lizard's gravy and biscuits was the REAL STUFF, people!!!  We could have easily made a meal of this dish alone.

While the food was all very fresh and well-executed, perhaps the BEST element of our brunch experience were the $3 mimosas and bloody mary's!  And not the CHEAP version, folks, like you might find at other brunch places - these were well-done, with a small-bubbled cava or prosecco in the mimosa, and a good-quality mix and several fat stuffed olives in the bloody.  There's no other brunch place in McKinney that can meet the quality of these drinks at this price, AND THEY SERVE BEFORE NOON!  (And trust me, coming from San Francisco we've been searching for a local place that will satisfy our mimosa/bloody brunch craving before the apparently magic hour of 12:00 p.m. ...)

We have absolutely no complaints or suggestions for the food or drink at One Lazy Lizard - our only suggestion for enhancing the ambiance (which is why we give it 4 stars vs. 5) would be to place a bunch of lounging couches and cocktail tables in the open front space of the bar area (because the place looks a bit "empty" if you just look in the windows as you walk by, which does not feel very inviting if you're unfamiliar with the establishment), and to advertize more effectively outdoors, again to welcome customers inside - add a sandwich board outside the front door, or at the busy corner of the McKinney square a half block north.  The type of customers who will gravitate toward this place need to be educated about its existence more effectively - it will only become even more fun to visit the Lizard when the crowds are a bit deeper inside!

In closing, whereas we'd gotten into the habit of going to Spoons for our Sunday brunch (which is also on the McKinney Square), since experiencing the Lizard we will definitely be GOING BACK!  We can't wait to try it for cocktails and dinner one of these nights...

WOW!!! LOVED IT! Didn't even know this place existed. The inside is very modern and cool. We started with the Brie and Ceviche. Great  size portions, nothing skimpy. Tasted great. For dinner we had the Salmon, Santa Fe Chicken and Bourbon Chicken. All 3 were very good, and good size portions. The waiter was extremely attentive, and even suggested that the Salmon mustard sauce be put on the side. I am glad he said this as the sauce was good, but would have been over powering if it were on the fish. This was a great experience, and this place can hold its own in a downtown square peppered with other great restaurants.

I went in attempting to grab a quick lunch, and the entire experience was between 2 to 3 stars.

I loved the artwork and general decoration of the place, but the music gives the impression they are trying to run a club.

The food took about 25 minutes to come out, which surprised me since the lunch menu is sandwiches & salads. When it did come out, it was pretty tasty so I forgave them for the wait. Everyone at the table really liked the food, but we wished we had had more time to enjoy it. I guess this is the risk of going out to a new place for lunch hour. The portion size was just enough to fill me up, and the price matches the quality of food.

The service was a bit apathetic. We got our refills, and the bill was quickly taken care of but the waiter lacked any sort of interest or enthusiasm. The others thought he came off rude, but I think he was simply unenthusiastic.

We will not be going back since there is such a great selection of places to go to on the square, and I'm simply not interested in what music they'll be playing at night.

This restaurant located just off the square in McKinney, is  kinda eclectic, with very tall ceilings and believe it or not, a second floor above those very same ceilings....music is on second floor with a darker ambience with a couple of smaller rooms for those who might to meet in a quieter area.....I had the southwest salad, and although would hit the spot for most...(I guess)....it was kinda dry...I know...I know....I could have asked for more dressing, which by the way was supposed to be jalapeno, (even thought it was practically 'heatless')...but I think the lettuce  was a little too crisp and thick...the martinis were served in stemless glasses...don't know about others, but a martini just does not taste the same without a stem......at any rate a very nice place to meet with friends for dinner or drinks.....

I went for the first time Saturday 3/30 with my sister and BIL (they had been once before). We decided to sit in the bar area it was happy hour on a SATURDAY. The bartender was engaging and entertaining and the drinks --  especially the jalepeno margarita were great. We stuck around for appetizers and dinner and I can't say enough about the food. The chef is amazing and we all enjoyed our experience. We will definitely go again.
4 Stars to the Beef Stroganoff and the Duck Crepes!!!

I stopped into One Lazy Lizard over Mardi Gras weekend and really enjoyed my experience.
They had a Mardi Gras themed menu available and I decided to get the Crab and Shrimp Étouffée. My first question before ordering it though was whether or not is was as spicy as it should be. Most places around here seem to wimp out on the spice to cater to the masses. After being assured it was up to snuff, I ordered.
I was started out with a small basket of rolls. Two plain white and one multi-grain. Hot, soft and delicious they were.
The Étouffée arrived shortly after and I was in heaven. Big whole shrimp with plenty of shredded crab filled the sauce covering the rice. The spice level was exactly as I'd hoped for too.
Overall service was great as well.
They have an upstairs area for entertaining. I understand they have live music sometimes and this time karaoke was going on. I found it rather enjoyable.
I plan to visit One Lazy Lizard again.

I'll give this place a 4/5 but I have to be honest, I was here for a private party so my experience isn't what you'd typically get.

A friend of mine wanted to do a fun coed baby shower and rented out the upper floor of this place.  The service was great and I liked how the interior of the restaurant was decorated.

If I lived in the area I would definitely come back for a normal night.  I also highly recommend this place for any one looking for a venue for a private party.

We tried this place for the first time last night. I was really excited to try a new restaurant in Downtown McKinney. I read the one review with 1 star but decided to still give it a try. Unfortunately. I should have listened. I've never given a 1 star either, so this is my first one.

What I liked was the cool look inside. It was very trendy looking with steel and green. The bar had some activity, but we were the only ones in the restaurant at 6:15 on a Sat. By 7 there was one other couple.  We had to wade through about 10 smokers outside the front door when we came in and out. That was a real turn off.

I ordered the Salmon and my husband ordered the Beef Stroganoff.
My salmon came smothered in a mustard sauce, which was horrible. I scraped it off, but it was the worst Salmon I've ever had out. I had a side of broccoli and green beans, which were done in bacon fat. I wish I'd had known as I'm allergic to pork. His stroganoff was OK. Overall we were so disappointed. We really wanted another option to eat downtown in McKinney. It has so much potential, but the menu needs a lot of work.
We definitely won't be going back unless we hear that they've made major changes. So disappointing.

Great casual restaurant just off the square in McKinney.  Food and service were both good.  Give it a try!

I think this might be my first 1-star review. I'll provide you with the short synopsis and the lengthy personal story.

    In Short:

Happy hour is bar only. Menu is designed to make you think that someone is actually putting some thought into the creation of your food, unfortunately you can experience the same quality by shopping around in the frozen dinner section of your local grocery store. Ambiance was probably designed by one of McKinney's famous soccer moms that think they know interior design.

    My Story:

I'm going out with a few friends that came into town for the holidays. We decided to give McKinney a whirl, since after all, it is the place we live. So we sit down. Tell us happy hour is only for the bar area (keep in mind it's a 8ft divider that separates the bar from the rest). Waiter checked to see if there is a table in the bar. Nope. All full. Bar tender overhears and graciously comes over saying he'll serve us happy hour (go figure).

Friend orders appetizers. $8 for "shrimp ceviche", AKA, 1/4 onion, 1/2 tomato, and 2 baby shrimp tossed under a dicer and thrown in a shot glass. I kid you not.

Continue on. I order my beef tips, the two girls with us order salads and my buddy orders the "lizard" chicken. I've had beeftips before. At real restaurants. This was like a Chef Boyardee special. Someone took the cheapest beef they could find, chopped it up, and tossed it on top of some linguini. They get all jazzy with their descriptions,  but get real. It tasted like canned beef. Don't get me started on the green beans either.

The service was pretty good, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this restaurant.

I left feeling ripped off. As did my friend that ordered the chicken. Salads were decent sizes, not for the price though.

So as usual, we'll continue to make the trek to Shops at Stacy or somewhere in Frisco in order to satiate our hunger for future rendezvous.

I really like this place. We've only been there once and it was fairly empty at the time (just before the dinner rush) but the service was awesome. The food was good but we only had two dishes. We had the Grilled Salmon which was cooked perfectly and  the beef tips. The beef tips were very tender,  just a bit salty but tasty and the fettuccine was just right. Overall we had a great filling meal with really good service. We will definitely be back soon.
