This place is great!
From the drinks to the atmosphere.
Sometimes they do have fights which is sad and may bring this place down but other than that this is the place to be for cheap stiff drinks. Â The also have a patio in the back which is great when it's not raining. Â
Also for all those using YELP....CHECK IN!!!
They have check in offers which you will enjoy.
Cover charge even after 12:30am??? Check your ID outside then again inside and they take a pic of you before you are approved admission...what's that all about?! Music was great but 2 fights broke out amongst women whilst we were here; 1st was on the dance floor and the 2nd was closer to the bar. Even with security at this club there's a sense of danger felt when you look at the people around you~ enough said! :-/
Review Source:Two words... Not great.......
This place has been around for a long time.... It has potential but just not for me..... I think you need tats, spiked hair, shirts with dragons on the back, fake tans, etc.......
The beer selection is not great at all... The Owl Club down the street is so much better...
We won't be back... They have the nerve to actually expect you to pay a cover to go inside.... Give me a break...
Went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I was pretty disappointed. Way too crowded, and one stall per sex! ARE YOU KIDDING?! Eek! Music was eh, I was there for two hours and heard the same song 3 times. Go across the street to the Vault if your looking to dance, or hit up The Troc if your looking for some beers. Pass the Onyx, not worth it.
Review Source:Cover charge? Really??! In this area??!
Crappy beer selection (unless you like any beers that taste like pee; Bud, Corona, etc. I dont even think they had Guinness. Our group left right away. Go down the street and you'll find WAY better selection, especially without the cover charge.
I've been going to Onyx almost every other weekend for about 2 months now and I enjoy myself. I like that its like a club, bar, lounge all in one place. Lounge area outside is great. There's not a strict dress code. You can get dressed up or go in somewhat casual attire. There's all types of people here. Good mixed crowd. Friendly service, except one female blonde bartender inside charged me more for a drink after another bartender told me a different price. She was a little rude. People are friendly here too, not as much stuck up bitches like other clubs. SMALL bathrooms and kinda dirty. Music is good, they play the same stuff over and over every time I go which gets kinda annoying, but I like this place and plan to continue to go here, especially with the cute bouncer @ the door!
FYI- this place is more of a 20's crowd. Â
Best days are Friday & Saturday.
I've been here many times. only $5 cover but if you text the owner you're in for free. Drinks are strong, music is good, even a stripper pole if you're drunk enough (this includes me a couple times) and the outdoor patio is awesome if you need a breather from sweatin on the dance floor. Only con is that there seems to be a lot of fights, although they are broken up quickly.
Review Source:If there was an option for giving a place negative stars, I would do so here.
This place sucks. It has always sucked. It will continue to suck all things that suck.
I have been drug to this place a few times on varying days, so I can attest to the shittishness of this place on a weekend and weekday. It is consistently awful no matter the day of the week, promotion, event, DJ, or any other variance they can try. The drinks are overpriced (PLEASE look at the picture of the "shot glass" I posted), the bartenders suck, and the atmosphere is waaaayyy too trashy. Last night was what pushed me to finally put into writing just how awful this place is and specifically why.
The defining qualities of a great bartender are friendliness and attentiveness, keeping in mind that business volume dictates attentiveness to a certain point and I totally get that. If the bar is 5 people deep and the bartender doesn't have enough time to blink, I don't expect a drink instantly. The bartender last night at this place was the anti-Christ of friendly. There are no words that can accurately sum up how much of a complete and utter @$$hole this dude was. Guy is about 50 years old, 200lbs overweight (probably an under par guess BTW), and clearly hates the world (probably due to the fact he's 60 years old and 300lbs overweight). I'm not sure if he has been jaded by all the douchebaggery he has seen out of the Old Roseville crowd or what, but that does not justify treating his PAYING CUSTOMERS as he does. If you hate your job so much, QUIT. Bartenders get paid to throw a party, not $hit on everyones good time (specific example: Guy in my friend group asks "How much of an upcharge is Redbull in a drink?" 70 year old angry bartender responded with a death stare, a giant sigh from his giant mouth, and "Why? Are you on a budget?" Ummmmmm no @$$hole my friend was just curious)
As for Fatface McGuillicuttys attentiveness, I'm sure you can guess how it was..... AWFUL. I don't feel the need to dedicate an entire paragraph to him here. The place wasn't that busy, the bar wasn't that crowded, and he still managed to take hours to get drinks to me and my friends. After 2 drinks I went outside to the patio. I'd rather sit in freezing 30 degree weather and get great service from the patio bartender, then sit inside in a comfortable environment and get the worst service in the history of service from the 90 year old ball of anger. Why not go to the other end of the bar to a different bartender you ask? Well because the other bartender at the opposite end of the bar looked SUPER sketchy (I think another reviewer touched on that?). Looked super trashy/ weird. No thanks. Figured I would try my luck outside and if that bartender sucked, I was gonna bail. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.
The ONLY positive thing to report was the patio bartender Lyndsey was way cool. She was full of smiles and was super attentive to myself, my friends, and everyone I saw go up to the bar. Question to management/ owners: WHY WOULD YOU STICK THE YOUNG, FRIENDLY, SWEET BLONDE GIRL OUTSIDE AND LEAVE THE GERIATRIC ANGER MONSTER INSIDE?!?!?! I'm sure the 100 year old has seniority (pun intended) or is a friend of the owner or blah blah blah. Bad choice in my opinion. Whatever though, it's your business.
Never again Onyx, never again. You are truly awful. If I'm ever with people that want to go here, I will go play on the train tracks in lieu of stepping foot in here.
Hi, and welcome to Roseville! Â
Before we get into things, I'd just like to let you know that ALL, yes, ALL drinks are half off at the Onyx on Wednesday nights.
Since the drinks here are already pretty cheap, the price point alone gets them 5 stars.
Now that we have that out of the way, if you've unexpectedly found yourself in "Old Roseville" There are a few things you should know...
There are 7 bars for you to choose from, all within stumbling distance, and all equally Roseville-ish.
This is not mid-town.
There wont be many stereotypical hipster type folks here.
There will be a ton of the stereotypical Roesville d-bags, and h-bags. Â
There will be ton of cops waiting for you like vultures.
There will be cabs, and you should probably use one if you were driving and decided to get your drink on.
The bartender is pretty laid-back, there is a jukebox, two pool tables, they serve a few fried food type stuffs, and they just re-modeled the back patio, which is actually pretty big. So, bring a group of people here and take advantage of those half priced drinks wed night!
*** Disclaimer
I cant provide testimony for this place on a weekend night, but then again I couldn't recommend Old Roseville to anyone for a weekend night.
lol. Â Same people all the time go there. Â bunch of bro douches that think they are tuff, but have never been out of Roseville. Â Fake chicks (not 100% bad) Â and Akon on repeat. Â That pretty much sums up a night at the Onyx. Â Then again it's Roseville so what can you expect. Â Heres two stars cause its probably the best Roseville has to offer.
Review Source:We go here since we're too lazy to drive to Sacramento. Â We only go when we get on the guestlist to get in free before 11, although the past few weeks they have been advertising no cover all night. Â Haven't been in a while and I'm guessing no one else has either. Â It was EMPTY when we arrived and not much better when we left around 1:30. Â Luckily the weather was beautiful, the Stoli girls gave out some free samples, and the Smirnoff Ice and bottled beers are decently priced. Â The new patio is nice, although I don't know if anyone would ever pay for a "booth" here and they take up at least a third of the patio space.
Review Source:One Word: WACK!
This place was so wack and no offense, but I've never seen so many ugly people inside a bar/club before in my whole entire life.
Boring. DJ sucks. How are you suppose to dance with "And I was like, baby baby baby noooooooooooooo"?
Outside patio was nice. That's about it. Ugly people.
You cant go to look at the bartendars either because they are wack as well and you obviously can't go and people watch because they're all ugly as hell, too.
SKIP this place. It's WACK AS heck. PERIOD!
Onyx was okay. Went on a Friday night. I hated driving here, hard to find parking, tons of cops, and $6 cover at midnight. VERY DUMB. I hate it when clubs charge for cover when they're gonna close in 1.5 hours.
It was smaller compared to other places: dance floor and bar. There was a patio though, and that i liked. It was nice going outside and getting some air. DJ was good. Drinks okay. Crowd (okay, the older guys) was a little disturbing, but you just let it go and try to have fun because you paid $6 and other joints are almost closing too.
Really a $6 cover? Â I'd rather drink at the Troc and get in free. Â Quite an abundance of "He-mos"- you know, the guys with the black Famous Stars & Straps t-shirts and their ears tucked into their hats. Â Also, plenty of Roseville 20-somethings who never made anything of themselves; most of which still live with their rich yuppie parents. Â One star for the huge back patio, one star for it being within stumbling distance of my house...
Review Source:Some friends and I went here on this past Saturday night, and we were very disappointed to find out there's a $6 cover charge for a place that looked like they should've paid us to enter.
Cost of drinks is about average, but for mixed drinks you get bottom of the barrel liquor for top shelf liquor prices (by far the worst Tokyo Tea I've ever tasted). Â Waiting about 10 minutes for a bartender to finally acknowledge that I wanted to order a drink made me feel like this place is the "Denny's" of bars...
Anyway, only one star for this place compared to other clubs I've been to in the Sacramento area. Â The only redeeming qualities about this place were that parking was quite easy, and it fell within my 5 mile radius... according to Mapquest: Total Est. Distance: 4.37 miles. Â Boo-yah.
Such a great local bar. Â We went here for girls nighyt out since there is no cover charge. Â There is quite a mix of people. Â We had a good time dancing and trying to escape a drunk old man who would not leave us alone. Â The awesome bouncers took care of him! hahaha....
The owners are great and I look forward to going back.
