Went to Sandy Hook for a day out with the wife and our maltese puppy, the one sit-down restaurant in Sandy Hook didn't allow dogs...ended up at Original Oyster for dinner...thought it was going to be a real hidden gem...great outdoor seating, live music...service was ok, but I was disappointed in the food...for the price I was expecting better quality. Had shrimp scampi on angel hair pasta, wife had seafood linguini (scallops, shrimp and lobster)...it was just ok...reasonably fresh but they didn't really get the right flavours in the sauces and dishes looked messily put together. Anyways, was still pleasant because of the atmosphere but food should have been better for the price.
Review Source:Dining outdoors in the summer can't be beat. Right? Â Not when there are small flies buzzing you once the sun begins to set. Â It was really bothersome and after we finished eating we immediately left. Â
The food was decent. Â I had the crab cakes and they were well prepared. Â The service was ok - our server was less than friendly and didn't check in on us at all.
Ist time to this out-of-the-way charming restaurant with amazing views of Sandy Hook.. Interior very pleasant and nautical..Drinks were OK, nothing special...
We had Empanadas as an appetizer-- Very good to excellent-Crispy/ crunchy and full of flavor.. My wife had Grouper Oreganata with crabmeat which was excellent.. Very well executed.
My Seafood Linguini was average.. Everything sat in a pool of liquid which was off-putting.. Not really a broth, but more of pasta water.
Shrimp on the tough side and didn't notice the lobster which was advertised on the menu..
Overall, a good experience. Took a while for the bartender to warm up since we ate @ the bar. We finally introduced ourselves and she became more friendly..
We would go back and I will make a different selection for my entre'
