My girlfriend introduced me to this place a few months ago, I've been back twice since. Â She always orders the same thing, the chocolate chip pancakes(which are more chocolate chip than anything!) and occasionally a side of bacon, which in my opinion isn't very good but she likes it. Â I find it to be a bit undercooked, but I like mine crispy. Â The first time I ordered an omelette, perhaps the Greek? Â I don't recall, but I do remember the omelette was good aside from it obviously being made from liquid eggs, a real turn off. Â On a positive note, the omelettes are massive! Â Dare you to finish one! Â On my second visit, on my way to a Colt's game, I went with a group of about 8. Â This is a Sunday morning at a breakfast joint, if you can imagine. Â We were seated in only 5 minutes. Â The kitchen staff manages to get food out quickly and efficiently, always! Â This time I ordered a Belgian waffle with chocolate and strawberry toppings. Â Sure, they don't make the chocolate sauce in house and the strawberry toppings clearly weren't fresh, but I enjoyed them none the less. Â It is what you would expect. Â Service is always great.
Overall I've really enjoyed my two visits there so far, and 2 out of 2 in the restaurant business is honestly an achievement. Â Highly recommend The Original Pancake House.
Like a special, Saturday morning breakfast at your favorite Aunt's house...you know, the one that can cook way better than your mom...it's nothing fancy, but it is ab-so-lute-ly delicious. Â It's the kind of breakfast that sets the tone for your entire day. Â
So, the line can get a little long, but even when it's to the door, we got seated in about 20 minutes. Â Not too bad for a Sunday morning at 10:15 for a party of 5. Â
This isn't fancy; this isn't gourmet. Â This is the food you loved when you were growing up, before things got complicated. Â The pumpkin pancakes are particularly tasty. Â We sub them in with an omelet or the scramble, and those pancakes epitomize November. Â
If I could change anything, it would be the coffee. Â I can't quite tell you what's off, but it's not enough where I wouldn't order it.
As a follow-up to my earlier, not-so-positive review about the Fishers location, I just want to say that we tried the new Westfield location, and it's excellent. Â Even though it's several miles farther from us, this is the one we'll go to from now on.
We were there on Mother's Day, and not too long after their grand opening, so we expected a huge crowd. Â But we made a point to go mid-afternoon, about an hour before closing but after the crowd had tapered off, to see if we could mitigate this a little. Â There were some people in line ahead of us, but we had only maybe about a one-minute wait. Â We were impressed!
And even with the huge crowds and rush they'd had all day until shortly before our arrival, our server was extremely friendly, upbeat, and chatty without being too chatty. Â It was hard to believe she'd been there all day, but she told us she had. Â And it was hard to believe she was still working as hard as she was after all that time, but she was. Â Again, we were very impressed!
The decor is very cool and up to date -- spacious and light with lots of windows and and pastel decor. Â Kind of reminds me of being in Nassau or Miami Beach.
The food was excellent, as has been my experience with the Original Pancake Houses in my hometown of Chicago, but that seemed to elude the ones I'd been to in Indianpolis up until now. Â Again, it was hard to believe that the kitchen staff had been hard at work all day. Â They didn't let the quality slip a bit.
By the way, did you know that you can order the Dutch Baby with bananas instead of lemon? Â I had no idea until now. Â I hadn't tried it before because I'm not a big lemon fan. Â But put bananas on just about anything and I'll try it at least once. Â I had it this time, and it was ... hmmm ... I can't even think of a good word to describe it, but I think STELLAR comes pretty close!
We'll definitely be back. Â It's just down the street from my kids' school, so I can see some pre-or-post-weekend-school-activity trips there in our future!
