Orleans Street Pub & Patio

It's a fair establishment, dive bar and currently the only gay bar in town. I'm not really into watching drag shows but it seems that every time I want to stop in on a Saturday or Sunday to have a quick beer there is a drag show with a $5 cover.  A single beer ends up costing nearly $10 when you factor in cover, cost of beer and tip.  Any other gay bar that I have been to will usually host drag shows on Sunday's only and this place will host a drag show just because it's someone's birthday; seems like an excuse just to charge it's customers $5.   I've passed on paying  the $5 cover at times and headed to Luke's, a straight bar on Calder. At least I know I can have a quick social drink without a cover.  Although a $5 cover is not expensive, it is an inconvenience to those wanting a quick beer.

The patio outside lacks any ambiance; it's just a few odd tables and chairs thrown out in a large space behind the building.  On several occasions I have seen minors squeezing through the fence and drinking on the "patio". The owner really needs to be more aware and patrol this area.  Seems like the patio is also a "play area" if you're cruising as I have seen quite a few guys groping each other through unzipped zippers. Seriously?  Have some class about yourself and take it somewhere else.  

On one evening that I went, I ordered wine; without asking me if I wanted white or red,  the owner went directly to fridge and poured a glass of red wine from a box.  Then again, who am I to order wine from a dive gay bar in Beaumont and pay $5 for it.

The DJ is fair, playing top 40 dance remixes but seems to play heavy on black musicians/entertainers.  You definitely will not find a true nightclub experience here if you're from a larger city.  I would rather just play the jukebox to be honest; at least then there will be something I want to hear.

All in all, please visit this place to keep it going for the community as it is the last of the gay bars in Beaumont and I'd hate to see it go away.  If you're grumpy like me, just deal with it and go with the flow.

This place is a blast.  We went on a Saturday night with tons of friends and it was a total dance party.  I imagine it could be a little awkward and boring if the DJ isn't awesome, but so far I've had a good experience.  Oh, and the bartender doesn't wear a shirt.  I doubt that is legal, but whatevs.
