Each time I return to Suga's, I wonder why I don't make the trek here more often.  What is it about us Beaumonter's that we think our downtown is sooooo far away?  Less than 10 minutes from home, and I can be transported to New Orlean's.  I don't think there is another place around here that you can say that about.  I love meeting ladies for lunch here.  It just makes you feel special.  The food is absolutely delicious.  I love the fresh salad with the crab cake. Every side that I have had has been wonderful.  And the fish - YUM.  The service is attentive and the iced tea is excellent.
That should be a given, but how many times are we greeted at other restaurants with colored water.  Give me some tea with teeth in it.  Taking advantage of one of the few patio dining area's in beaumont is also a treat.  Yes, it is a little pricier in the evening, but to have a jewel like this here in Beaumont is something that I need to support before it goes the way of other fine dining establishments that have disappeared from our scene.  Well, I think I have just talked myself into having my husband meet me for lunch there today!

For my friends' birthdays we went to Sugas for dinner after our previous reservations fell through at another place. I'm glad it did too because this place as phenomenal!

From the outside you wouldn't expect Sugas to be fancy at all; what with its brick building and urban surroundings. Then you walk in and it's pinkies out 24/7 type fancy! The atmosphere was nice and relaxing. The lights dimmed randomly which was a little confusing but the ambiance was still exquisite. It was a Tuesday night so it wasn't terribly busy, just a few other large groups as well as us.

April was our server and she was extremely kind and courteous. (As was the rest of the staff, very friendly.) She was helpful answering each of our questions about the menu (what's good, what's not, etc.) and if she didn't know she made sure to find someone who did.

And as a vegan, I always have to ask for specific things for my food when I'm in a restaurant and from my experience with southern restaurants, they don't even know what vegan is without explanation. I'm telling you though, they surprised me here at Sugas. There aren't many on-menu vegan options, but the wait staff told me that the chef (Steve Curtis, I believe) had a pretty extensive knowledge of vegan foods and could prepare anything as long as you ask. The biggest treat for me was finding out the fried green tomatoes were VEGAN!

I could have just eaten those all night. They were so good it brought me back to when my own memaw would make them. Melt in your mouth good. They were fantastic! I definitely recommend trying those if you roll through.

We brought in a couple of our own bottles of wine for the corkage fee of $20. It's a little more expensive than we thought, but the service and food was great.

Bathrooms were very clean and fancy.

I'll definitely come back here whenever I come back to Texas.

My friend and I went here as suggested by the wedding events that we attended the day before as apart of their ending the weekend. We knew were going to be hungry so made reservations for 11 AM instead of the 1230 after hotel checkout. It wasn't far from Hotel Elegante so we got there a half an hour early. That whole downtown was a ghost town-very eerie but interesting. After we explored downtown we made it back to the restaurant and was seated promptly after letting them know I had a reservation (Open Table dining points-that I still have yet to get cause the restaurant doesn't know what they are doing but I digress) We didn't see a buffet advertised on their website and when the waitress came to get our order she stated that they stopped the buffet and just never updated their website since everyone is on Facebook now. Well excuse me. We were through and waiting to see why it was $30 a person for a brunch buffet. Alas I was too hungry to try and find something else in this rather desolate town so I saw quite a few things on the menu that looked good anyway. I got the chicken and waffles and asked for my waffle to be a southern pecan waffle of which they obliged and my friend got the southern pecan waffle with a side of every dang thang!! I was like girl you are not gonna eat all that food!! (She didn't) The portions were great and the chef gave us some lagniappe of cheeses, fruit, and breads since he knew we came for a buffet. The chicken was really tasty and crispy. The pecan waffle was ok just not crispy enough for me. But still good as the batter had a light sweetness to it. I also order a side of the guess what (cheesy grits-you guessed it) and they did not disappoint at all. They were sooooooo good and cheesy and the consistency was perfect. We were waited on very well by our waitress I wish we remembered her name. She was of the Asian persuasion cute young lady very pleasant and accommodating. I sampled all of my friends sides since I knew she wasn't gonna eat them and they were very tasty also (smoked salmon and eggs). Needless to say I was ready to pay 60 dollars but for 39.00 it fit the bill and made us full for the road. I forgot to mention when you sit down their bread consist of pastries and breads. The breads they could have kept especially that rock hard biscuit but the pastries were divine. One was of a raspberry cheesecake like with lemon and the other was like a chocolate cake. Very good. There was also a lady their singing jazz/blues who was very good. She did a whole hour set while we were there on the piano. The decor is really nice with great paintings that were consistent with the type of place it was. There are two levels to this place and beautiful patio on both levels that when the weather is great will be a great experience. One of the other waiters I think was diggin' on my friend cause he kept asking us how we were doing and even filled up our glasses of water a few times and givin' her the side eye ;-) (Somebodies got jungle fever!)  If ever in town again I will stop by and maybe try their other stuff on the menu. The experience was truly a delight.
