Meh. Sat us, no we sat ourselves in the bar in stools that weigh like 250!
Hostess followed and slapped down the brunch menu. Ok, we,ll see. Got a mimosa and the wife a frozen rite. Mine was horrible with warm orange juice, pulp and all, poured over cheap warm champagne.i would say it was the worst drink I ever received in a restaurant ever. The frozen Rita was as strong as any we have ever tasted, and needless to say the egg dishes that followed these "libations" , a frittata with too much sausage, burnt eggs, and limp veggies and a egg&bacon sandwich with rubberized "applewood" bacon. Like I said, meh.
All in all maybe a soft 2 for ambiance and not much more. Service was attempted, slow, and really not worth my usual 20%, but was the benefit of rounding up. Oh well, I was a college waiter once too.
We heard nothing hut brags from the local biz folks since we arrived in the area three years ago. We finally went last Sunday. Won't be back..
I've eaten at Palmer's several times over the last couple of years, and it's pretty hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's a solid 4-star experience, and other times it doesn't deserve more than 2 stars. That's why I'm giving it 3 stars today.
Don't get me wrong; I've had great meals here. There are a few dishes that I've really enjoyed. A year or so ago, I shared an order of delicious pulled pork nachos with a friend. They were fantastic! Unfortunately, it turns out that they were just part of a "specialty menu" that Palmer's offered during a week-long promotion. (Fortunately, I can buy all the ingredients and make them at home, which I've done once or twice.)
The service, in my experience, is typically okay. Just okay. The courtyard is always beautiful, the bar area is comfortable, and the main dining areas are nice, too.
I feel like Palmer's really wants to be (and could be) a 4-or-5-star restaurant, but in addition to the inconsistency, there's a "wow" factor missing.
They've stepped up their game! Nana and I stopped in for a late lunch after some heavy shopping. I admit I was reluctant after our last visit, but they really surprised me! First, let me say they have a wonderful selection of local brews now! Second, my Bloody Mary was absolutely delectable (all the fixings, and strong)! Our waiter was very polite and let us "camp out" with out rushing us to pay or any of that nonsense. Not a complaint one about the food as we were famished and it came prompt and hot! Also we had my young nephew in tow, and guess what? The kids menu is full of fresh veggies from a REALLY LOCAL farm!!!
I do not "Yelp!" much (only when pleased or seriously displeased), an associate from the restaurant had messaged me regarding my last review (I just now caught it), well Palmer's, you have redeemed yourselves! Please continue your fine selection of adult beverages from TX, and the farm fresh goodness.
We were also very lucky to be chatted up by a friendly manager, Eva, who was very charming and helpful with Nana (truly appreciate her helping her down the steps while I carried the leftovers). So in the end they've earned an extra star from me.
(P.S. for funsies I looked at the web site when I got home, much better.)
How pretty! Â And how slow. Â Service was really bad! Â Food was okay. Â Beautiful gardens and dining area. Â I wish I'd like it better. Â If you are taking your mom, grandmother or someone who oooohs and aaaaahs over pretty gardens and gourmet-ish food, then this is your place. Â But be prepared to wait an eternity for your drink order, appetizer, and even longer for the food.
Review Source:I feel like they are really on the right track but not quite there yet, which is a  strange thing to say about an established restaurant. The menu sounds really well put together, but then there's something really not working for each dish. It is in part the small details overlooked, like if the sandwich is too tall to bite you won't enjoy eating it, as an example. Little things that are kind of big things. Also, when you see a menu that looks inspired, you expect the food to taste that way--but as another pointed out, it's "missing that 'wow' factor." But the patio really is gorgeous and the ambiance is lovely. It's worth a try, and definitely a nice place to relax. I just wasn't that impressed with their food, it's too bad.
Review Source:I have been here 4 times in the last year and each time I hope the service gets better, but it doesn't! Â
I have sat in the patio area each time (which is lovely) and have had the worst waiters and service. Â My first time here I waited 10 minutes for a tea and the waiter said "the bar is backed up"....what a bull shit answer. Â It just went down hill from there. Â
My most recent trip there, which was yesterday, did not change my opinion about Palmers. Â My waiter was nice, but that is the only good thing I can say. Â We ordered cocktails and queso with guacamole. Â The queso and guac came out in a huge bowl with a small amount of chips. Â Whe asked for more chips as we had not even fnished 1/2 of the dip and the chips never came. Â The next time I saw our waiter, he spilt a drink on another table and we pretty much never saw him until the end when I had to yell his name across the courtyard to get his attention for the bill! Â It's ridiculous. Â I'll never go back.
We went there for an early evening dinner the night after thanksgiving. There a few people dinning and plenty of staff. The mixed drinks were fantastic and our food was excellent. I had read the reviews in advance and expected a far worse experience. Both myself and my guests were very pleased. I'd go back again for a nicer dinning out experience. We had the seafood grill, the LBJ grill, the penne pasta and a few other odds and ends. All was great n
Review Source:Pluses: Bloody Mary bar, patio, happy hour, pleasant background music
Minuses: Order is always screwed up, food always takes a long time to get to my table, food is missing that "wow" factor.
I really want to give Palmer's 3 1/2 stars. I'm rounding down due to the fact that the past couple of times I have been there, the food took forever, and then when it finally came out, it was the wrong order, had to be sent back, and thus took even longer to arrive. The food is good -- not amazing -- but for San Marcos standards, it's just fine. The waitstaff has always been friendly. They just have some kinks to work out when it comes to wait times for food and drinks.
I'll continue to drink my bloody mary's and margaritas on their wonderfully shaded patio for now.
We expected an awesome brunch, but got a waitress with a bad attitude and did not want to be there. Â The order was screwed up and not prepped properly. Â Everything else was mediocre at best. Â The patio was great. The music was nice, but we had a pretty shitty brunch. Â They blamed it on a new crew in the kitchen, but for a place that nice, it should have been a lot better. Â Overall, highly disappointed for a place that comes with a high recommendation and great reputation. Â The first time I was there for lunch, it was great. Â I won't do brunch on Sunday again though.
Review Source:I have such a love/hate relationship with Palmers and it makes me sad. I'd like nothing more than to sing the praises of a local establishment over a chain but I just can't. While they do happy hour and brunch fairly well they lack everywhere else. I've seen so many attempts to have these "fancy" specials to draw people in but then they just let down. Sadly it's awkward cause most of the servers seem to know it and don't like working their either.
So while I love to have me some happy hour or Sunday brunch there I wouldn't recommend anything else...well maybe except the vegetarian tortilla soup at lunch. If they just took some time to update the look and feel of the place and stand by their specials I think they'd see some great improvements in reviews. After a horrific dinner experience I stopped going there for about 7 months only recently returning for brunch (cause let's get real, we lack options in San Marcos and we didn't feel like driving to Austin) and nothing has changed. Stop trying so hard and get back to basics, the locals will appreciate it!
Till then just go eat at Root Cellar or Fresh Cubed.
I write this more in the hope that it will lead to a remedy of the one severe gripe I have about Palmer's than to warn off anybody, because make no mistake about it, I will be going back.
Folks, this is a GREAT place to eat. Â The parking lot is pretty good-sized, and there is ample parking in short walking distance for those rare times that it is full. Â The place itself is beautiful inside and out - the former a converted house, and the latter a beautiful shaded courtyard with a nice central fountain water feature. Â The menu is fairly unique and the portions are moderate to generous. Â The prices are fairly reasonable for dinner - brunch (my favorite) is just straight up inexpensive.
Now the bad. Â For some inexplicable reason (genuinely at least every second visit here) we find ourselves seated promptly, and then watching no less than a dozen passes by employees before being acknowledged. Â I don't mean waited on - I mean literally simply being recognized as alive. Â This past visit it took several neck cranes and indignant glances before somebody finally came over to at least tell us she would be right with us. Â The manager has been apologetic following a previous occurrence, and assured us it was a one-off (and rectified) but evidently it's an ongoing theme.
At any rate, if it sounds like a nitpick, then I'm glad if it doesn't dissuade you. Â On the other hand, if you (like me) feel that the most rudimentary facet of customer service is to never ignore your customers, then you will get why I had to subtract one star from my rating.
I have yet to have a bad meal at Palmer's and that's impressive because many local establishments in San Marcos are pretty mediocre and inconsistent.
The patio is shaded, gorgeous and the perfect place to have lunch, dinner or a drink with some friends.
I guess everyone had the same idea on this sunny Sunday morning because it was packed so my friends and I sat in the bar.
After trying to narrow down my brunch choice to like 10 items (I really did want like 10 things on the menu), my roommate and I decided to split the Florentine Benedict
(English muffin w/ sautéed spinach, onions, poached egg, artichoke hearts, and Hollandaise sauce. Served w/  fruit & potatoes) and the Sonoran Stacked Enchiladas (layered tortillas w/ chicken, onions and cheese topped w/ verde sauce & a fried egg. Served w/ black beans). AND BOY OH BOY were both of those dishes yummy!
We were about to ask for the check when a desert flew by and we were only left with the smell of the hot caramel. 2 minutes later we ordered an order of banana quesadillas w/ ice cream and the chocolate chip bread pudding - both just decadent.
If it wasn't brunch, I would have ordered the pecan crusted chicken because that is my absolute favorite entree at Palmer's!
Enough of making myself hungry by thinking about the food.... I may or may not be going back tomorrow during their happy hour (3-6:30 on M-F AND they just added reverse happy hour from 9-11 on Thurs, Fri & Sat) for moderately priced drinks and cheap cheap apps! mmmhmmmm
Palmer's is one of my favourite places in San Marcos. It's expensive enough to keep most of the college kids out while still offering a great happy hour. I highly recommend going during happy hour and making a meal out of appetizers. The fondue, Ahi tuna, cheese flautas, and queso are all delicious. I usually skip entrees, instead eating a salad and appetizers, but I do like the Spicy Mary burger, though it isn't terribly spicy, and the full portion of their chicken fried steak is more than enough to share between two people. Sunday brunch is great too.
Review Source:You have to try to love Palmers because there are few restaurants in San Marcos. The courtyard and cocktails are good, but the food is mediocre to bad and the service is the same.
I took my parents here twice and had the same experience both times. Cold food, wrong orders, and crappy service and it wasn't even busy. It's hard to talk my parents into visiting and this makes it harder. I had the pork chop with egg and green chilies. The chop was over cooked and was suppose to be habanero flavored, but was just bland. The jalapeno grits were gross and the green chili sauce seemed out of a plastic bag. The eggs were just as tasteless and plasticy.
Palmers would benefit from new management, staff that is not hungover all the time, a new head chef/menu and some new branding. Step it up.
I feel that this is a very rough four stars. When I went with my girlfriend at the time, the restaurant was a little quiet and had an excellent atmosphere. I noticed an older setting of guests, no one really our age. The menu was a bit pricey and almost felt like it had had better days. The courtyard was nice and romantic, and quiet (for a brief moment). I'm guessing they sit bigger tables outside, because not five minutes in there were two large parties sitting near us and not even half an hour later they were already yelling and mid-tier intoxicated.
This kind of stuff doesn't bother me too much, but if you're going to have loudass people outside in large groups then at least light the area up a little more. Don't create a pseudo-romantic or peaceful environment only to have it shoveled off by a group of mid-life crisis gonads.
/endrant. That being said, the food I got was great and the barman knew his stuff. We paid decently, but overall it was pleasant. The waitress forgot about us for almost a half hour (I'm not surprised reading other peoples reviews) but when she learned of this she was very apologetic and polite. It was a good experience overall, and I have to say I would return. The restaurant has been there for quite a while I've heard and has a decent reputation from what has been said to me.
I would go again, but with more people. A group would make the experience better. Be prepared to pay a little more though.
A
I feel rotten after my last review as I heard from the owner/chef not even 2 hours after I posted it. Â He was awesome, very apologetic - and didn't try to make excuses. Â He explained where their business was on Sundays and sincerely apologized. Â Its not often you find someone nowadays who can acknowledge when an error happened, let alone take responsibility and be sincere. Â Monte, we'll definitely be coming back - but we'll probably be brunching at the bar from now on :) Â Thanks again, I appreciate that you took the time to hear me out.
Review Source:I'm not a fan of many restaurants in San Marcos but this one is better than most. Â My two girlfriends and I decided to hit up this place for their HH specials. Â There is a little catch, you must be seated at the bar or in the courtyard in order to get the HH specials.
This place reminds me of a quaint, cute little shady grove. Â There are lots of trees around and the ambiance is nice. Â Although it was cold out (ok, cold for Texas!) we sat in the courtyard outside and they had some heating lamps around which helped tremendously. Â Our table ordered the Calamari, Chicken Strips, Baked Fondue and the Queso Fundigo along with some drinks. Â Their drink prices are awesome, $3!!
All of the items we had were good but I have to say the Baked Fondue was my favorite. Â Cheesy gooey goodness with crostinis! Â Our waiter, Richard J was awesome. Â At the beginning of our evening he was running around the whole restaurant like a mad man but made sure we were taken care of. Â At one point my friend ordered a drink and it didn't come for about 8-10 minutes so he comped it! Â Waiters rarely do such a thing! Â Due to the great service and food, I'll definitely be back for some more HH food fun!
The place is the biggest gem in San Marcos by far. My girlfriend (who lives in San Marcos) was raving about this place when I was in town for a visit, so of course, we went. I mean what choice did I have.. Ok, I'm whipped I admit. Anyhow, when I first walked in I was really surprised at the inside of this place, it was pretty impressive. The lights are perfectly dim, nice atmosphere, good so far.
Our waitress was very prompt with our drink order, and was very pleasant. We started out with the Fondu and Calamari. I honestly had never had fondu, and didn't really know what to expect.. I had some preconceived idea it was some tasteless, earthy, vegan fruit cake dish... but it ended up being AWESOME. It was more like artichoke dip.. it had artichokes, cheese, and was delicious. We also got friend Calamari that was also very good. It tasted like the batter was mixed with a dash of maybe cilantro and basil.
We had eaten a very late lunch, and didn't have much of an appetite when we came in the first place, so all we got was the appetizers. I will definitely be back though to write a follow up review when I get a chance to have a full dinner. I recommend!
My sister and I were in town for the weekend and decided to try put this place based on the good reviews.
We came on a Friday night around 6:30 and were seated outside in the courtyard right away. The courtyard probably seems like a crazy idea on a 100+ degree day but they had fans and lots of shade and it was actually quite pleasant.
We started off with the table-side guacamole and each had a paloma to drink. The guacamole was great - as were our drinks. We each ordered salads for dinner. My sister had the Greek and I had a salad with walnuts, blue cheese and mandarin oranges (can't remember the name). Both of our salads were really good.
BEST PART of the meal was dessert!! We ordered the banana quesadillas. Soooo good! Bananas and caramel were sandwiched between two crispy, flaky tortillas, drizzled with chocolate sauce and served with vanilla ice cream. We wanted to lick the plate clean because it was so tasty!!
Service was a little slow, but the waitress was very attentive and we weren't in a hurry at all, so it wasn't a big deal.
We decided to make a destination out of Palmer's one day, I'm not sure why.
First of all, the host was: slow, rude, frazzled, confused, missing, panicky, pushy... take your pick on adjectives.
No complaints about our waiter, but the food was very hit and miss. My advice: stick to things you can imagine to have been invented in Texas- chicken fried steak and whatnot.
They need to take everything else off the menu, like seafood and pasta.
I'll start with the positives. They have a very nice cocktail menu with some pretty tasty, creative drinks. They also have a really beautiful courtyard and if the weather is right the ambience out there is lovely.
That being said the last few times we've been the service has been bad and the food has been ok at best. I went with the GF for cocktails and appetizers one night and had to wait 10 minutes for a waitress to take our order, 20 minutes for my cocktail to come out and another 10 minutes for my gf's cocktail to come out. The drinks were good but with nary an apology from the waitstaff...(get it "wait" staff) we paid our bill and moved on to speedier service elsewhere.
On another occasion we went for brunch. I ordered eggs benedict and she ordered crabcake benedict. Apparently no one at this restaurant has ever eaten real hollandaise sauce because whatever they served me was not it. Not even close. It was awful and I haven't been back since.
Good food, great patio but guys...do something about the birds and bugs..mainly the flies...
if you kill them off...wow it would be like dinning in San Francisco
Oh, The chef came to our table to see if everything was to our liking. Now that is a man who will go far because he cares about his customers and products. In Dallas, Dean Fearing Always comes to your table because He knows why your here and he want you back again and again.
Thank you Palmer's!!
The scenery as you enter the restaurant is so charming and quaint! It was such a lovely, breezy night out that as soon as we were seated in the dining room, I immediately envied those out on the patio. The tall tiki torches around the perimeter of the garden and candles at each table just beckoned glasses of wine and good conversation.
But alas, indoors we sat. The chairs and tables indoors were a little awkward. The chairs have padded seats, no lumbar support, but a padded U around them to rest your back and arms on. Honestly, they reminded me of something you'd see in an Olive Garden that hadn't been updated since 1995. And the tables were a little small for the size of the plates they bring you. Three people with an appetizer, 3 meal plates and 3 glasses made our spread pretty crowded.
But the food, delicious! The service, excellent! The dim lighting inside was faded up a bit at the request of my dad, who couldn't read the menu in the dark. That special consideration made him really happy. Everyone was very friendly, and they were quick, but let us take our time with each course, taking our slow, sweet time.
I understand this place has a reputation for their seafood, but my small portion steak was delicious, and my dining partners enjoyed their catfish and seafood platters. By the end, we were all happily stuffed. We sat and chatted for some time, giving our food some time to digest before ordering desert, and no one ever bothered us to hurry along. It was an excellent night.
What a lush garden of of happiness that envelops you as you dine on American traditional cuisine with a twist of tex-mex and seafood. I recently visited after their renewal of their menu. Per the manager's words, they have improved their menu and are excited to show it off!
To match the beautiful secret garden atmosphere, the menu is provides an abundant variety ranging from a bloody mary burger to a blackened salmon. It kills me that I can't remember exactly what I had, but I will say that the menu was so extensive and impressive I was overwhelmed. Thus, ensuing my order anxiety where I just settle on a trusty, reliable salad. I wasn't disappointed. Their salads are fresh and dense as well. I believe I had a Texas-style salad packed with a lot fresh ingredients, like goat cheese, roasted bell peppers, and other little diddies I can't remember at the moment.
Now for the best part! Their banana quesadilla dessert. Okay, listen up! This was good. It is reminiscent of bananas foster filling but encompassed by corn tortillas and topped with some vanilla ice cream. If I find out that you ate at Palmer's and didn't order this I will get in the car drive down to San Marcos and personally treat you to lunch or dinner here so you can relish in these innovative, delectable dessert. Got that!?
My boyfriend and I decided to use our Palmer's Groupon for our anniversary dinner. We were seated in the lovely courtyard area, which has a large fan creating a breeze, which was nice, and a fountain...were grackles played and bathed. Eating next to dirty birds...yummmm.
First, it took ten minutes for our server to come to our table after we had been seated, and another ten minutes to get a glass of water. I don't know whether our guy was using the bathroom for heavy duty business inside or what, but service here is painfully slow and kind of inattentive.
BF ordered a g&t which was a little flat... but had a decent taste.
We both ordered what seemed like fairly popular dishes (St. Mary's burger and the LBJ platter) and both were... eh... okay. I liked the sweet potato fries that my burger came with.
Neither of these dinners got us to our $30 mark, so we ordered desert, rather reluctantly I might add. We chose the chocolate chip bread pudding. Not bad. We finished it. Not great, i can still feel it sitting heavily on my stomach.
Overall, Palmer's is a nice place to sit outside and drink refreshing beverages, but if you plan on enjoying your meal immensely like I do, go to Root Cellar.
This place is not worth the effort of writing a full review. Â It is one of those places that has nice decor, but is managed and staffed by refugees from a low-rent McDonalds.
Do not go here.
My crib list:
Strike 1: seating us right next to very loud dinner party, with the restaurant nearly empty
2: refused to serve a la cart plus salad
3: waiter lectured me about tumbler with the drink, then drops top on the food
4: waiter nowhere to be found to change seats, are told by passing other waiter "oh, go ahead and move and just sit anywhere in restaurant"
5: did not bring salad, and then remembered to bring it after entrees
6: salad had wrong dressing
7: not a single apology
8: cleaning floor right next to customers while eating
8 strikes. Â This was supposed to be a nice place.
Rating Palmer's is tough. Â The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, especially in the courtyard, but the food has been hit or miss over the years. Â It does seem to be improving since the new owner took over in 2010, but overall the food still seems more like a chain restaurant than a chef driven local jewel. Â For example, the soups often taste like they were thrown together quickly from pre-cooked ingredients. Â Soup is a good barometer of a restaurant's dedication to food quality, most don't invest the time and TLC it takes to make a great soup.
The reason I'm still giving Palmer's 4-stars is that you just cant beat sitting in the courtyard splitting a few of their better appetizers (I'm a fan of their Spinach and Artichoke Fondue and Crab Cakes).
I really want to love Palmer's, but the few times I have been have not been great. Â The courtyard is adorable and a great place to enjoy happy hour specials on a gorgeous Texas afternoon. Â
The drink and appetizer specials are pretty good, however, the first time I went I ordered the chicken strips and they came out completely raw! Â They were quick to replace them but it was kind of a mood kill.
I did not give up there, I have been back a few times and the food and the service has been just ok. Â I have heard that they have made some improvements so I will be back to check it out again. Â Like I said, for some reason I am determined to like this place.
We met my parents at Palmer's for an impromtu dinner. They live in Austin and we live in San Antonio, so San Marcos is a good place to meet up.
The atmosphere of the outside courtyard is just wonderful. It's quiet, and very cheery. There's a nice fountain in the center of the courtyard and you feel like you're tucked away in some hidden place.
The service was great, although for such a short wine list, the server didn't seem to know anything about the wines. Instead of finding someone who did, she asked the bartender the question we had asked her and she relayed it to us. It would have been much nice to talk with a knowledgeable person, especially since there was literally no one in the bar are and he or she had time.
The first disappointment on the menu was that two of the very few vegetarian items that were listed online had been removed with no replacement items. That left a few salads, 1-2 appetizers (including chips and dip) and a pasta dish.
I ordered the Greek Salad and was extremely disappointed. The lettuce was brown where they had cut it with a knife. There were TONS of lettuce ribs in it (white crunchy pieces) and the all-over flavor was lacking. My mother ordered the only vegetarian pasta dish, an angel hair dish with cream sauce and tomatoes. It was absolutely tasteless. My husband ordered the Southwest Salad and we are still trying to figure out what exactly made it "Southwest". There wasn't a Southwest dressing and the chicken had no seasoning on it.
As my husband put it, "the food wasn't awful, it just wasn't great". I agree. We another place we usually meet that's on the water and we'll have to stick to that from now on.
I keep having incredible experience after incredible experience here at the new-and-improved Palmer's.
A week ago Tuesday, I enjoyed a fantastic portion of Parmesan crusted striped sea bass and topped with a delicious shrimp sauce. Â What was purported to be a 5 ounce portion was easily more like 8-10 ounces. Â I had to resist the urge to place a second order to go. Â Seriously.
Sunday, I again had an out-of-this-world time enjoying their brunch portion of the shrimp and grits prepared with a tomato-based Creole sauce. Â The ingredients in the sauce were all fresh; it was incredible to savor the cooked-yet-crisp texture of the onions and celery. Â And, to top it off with a cafe-au-lait and fresh, hot beignets with powdered sugar and fresh whipped cream that, dare I say, easily surpass the quality and flavor of those served by Morning Call and Cafe du Monde. Â And, yes, having done appreciable non-tourist time in New Orleans, I know of the heresy with which I speak.
Yesterday's lunch was back to basics, just The Ritz (soup or salad plus sandwich) with the Turkey Tuxedo on sourdough.  But, oh the Broccoli Cheese Soup is back in all its splendor  (well it's only back on Tuesdays, but I've been keeping that secret to myself for two months now).  And, somewhere along the way, I discovered that Palmer's beignets are not just for Sunday brunch dessert anymore.  ;)
There were moments in the past few years when I feared that Palmer's glory days were all in the past. Â Now, under new management, I realize that the glory days are yet to come.
Stopped in for a lunch with coworkers.
I was immediately happy to find the delightful patio shaded by big trees and secluded from the outside world with ivy covered brick walls. When you eat out there you're in a quiet little oasis.
I ordered the turkey brie sandwich based on Yelp review recommendations. Delicious. Warm brie melts around turkey slices squished between toasted bread. My mouth is watering remembering it!
I have driven by this place for almost 20 years. Yesterday, to my delight my wife and I ventured in for a early dinner. I read R.D.'s review and and it helps me kinda picture the past 20 years or so. Palmer's is celebrating 30 years in business this year.
First things first - The patio is awesome. Well manicured and covered with nice trees; I can see why friends Gyvel and Mike like this place. The interior or at least the areas we saw aren't as exciting as the patio. Think country club meets mauve and dim lighting. We sat next to a window so we weren't swallowed up by the wood paneling.
The menu is well appointed and reasonably priced for the portions. We thought the seared ahi tuna with sun dried tomato and red wine reduction was amazing. Our honey glazed pork chops with mashers and jalapeno creamed corn was perfect.
The rosemary bread was also a hit; the other bread offering was lacking. Service was "college" friendly. I am glad after 20 years, I finally gave Palmer's a shot!!
If you ever venture outside of Austin or make a trip down to the outlet malls in San Marcos, I strongly suggest you stop in and treat yourself to a meal at Palmer's. It's nestled just off the square and has a very nice courtyard. There are a variety of options on the menu from salads and pasta to seafood and steak. I had a delicious bowl of craw fish bisque the last time I was there. The food isn't over complicated or too fancy, but just right every time.
Here's the most important thing to know about going to Palmer's. You MUST have tiramisu for dessert. I'm a big snob when it comes to this dessert and Palmer's ranks as one of the best makers of tiramisu. The combination of toasted almonds and bananas makes this dish absolutely divine!
