Nice chill place. Good live bands. Back patio is a little small, it would be nice if they had a non smoking section outside. Last thing I want to do is smell cigarette smoke from a chain smoker.

*sigh*  Doing an update and knocking it down a star for one reason and one reason alone.  What is that reason?  The noise level.  Note that this is coming from a person who's partially deaf in one ear (and I get my hearing tested annually since eventually I will need a hearing aid for that ear).

The live music here is ENTIRELY too loud.  If I have to yell for a guy 2' from me to hear me and even then he can only hear every other word, it's TOO DAMNED LOUD.  I go to a lot of concerts and shows, so I carry ear plugs in my wallet and break them out every night at PLT.  They damped 50db and *still* the sound there is somewhat painfully loud.  If they'd simply drop the volume a little bit, it would be great.  As is, knowing as much as I do about hearing issues, I think the level of noise there is most certainly damaging the hearing of people who are in there without noise dampening capabilities.

If it's recorded music being played over the PA, it's typically pretty tolerable volume-wise, but as soon as ANY musician is on stage, it's INSANELY loud.

I found myself sitting at the dark bar with a couple of old guys, a douchebag talking very angrily and loudly on his phone, and  a cougar. Then I thought, "What the hell am I doing here?" I had a quick drink and left.
They only serve bottles and liquor, and I've never paid more than $7 for Herradura until now. They did have fresh limes, though. Fresh limes rock!

Parmer Lane Tavern has really great bands! Thsi Fri. "Fusion" is playing. Happy hour drinks are great. Michelle & Laurie the bartenders rock. If you want a good place to hang this place is calling your name.

I will never step foot in this bar again.  A friend of mine called the bar to ask if they could maybe put a few tables together with a reserved sign for a large group.  They did and we had a good evening.  A couple months later she called again and was told "You people need to drink more alcohol".  Really?  If we didn't go there they wouldn't have gotten any of our money.  We also noticed that it wasn't so crowded that people were turned away.  I understand they are running a business but we will take our large group business somewhere else in the future, I'm sure another bar will appreciate any money they make from us.

what a surprising little gem of a neighborhood bar tucked away... in a strip mall?

i was skeptical, but friends suggested this place and the blacked out windows gave me a different impression than what hid behind blackness.

It's filled with several high top table rounds, 4 or 6 pool tables, shuffle board and poker games that happen on the weekends.

The bar reeks of years of indoor smoking- but it wasn't annoying but rather comforting and made me remember the days of indoor smoking and glad that it's just a fading stench of the past.

Drinks were reasonably priced, looked as though they have many daily specials and happy hour until 9p- which includes jello shots!

I like this place.  It's just what you want in a neighborhood bar.  It's not overly loud or filled with douchey people. Staff is great.  My girlfriend thinks it's creepy though, maybe not "classy" enough?  I think it's perfect.  My only complaint it that it's next to a pizza place, every time I drink here I want a pizza.  The pizza place is never open at that time.  Not the Taverns fault in any way, shape, or form.  Frustrates me anyway.

New find for us living in North Austin. Fantastic bar staff that makes you feel welcome the minute you walk in. Nonsmoking, clean, great drinks, along with live music on Wednesdays. Overall just impressed in talking with both bartenders (terrible with names - male & female) that really enjoy being there and if you're a first-timer like we were, will give you a history of the bar that's been there for over 20 years.
Suggest all you North Austin folks that are looking for a new cool place for a drink - stop by.

I have been a regular of PLT for over 8 years. It is one of few places in Austin where a person with a professional engineers' license, MBA, real estate license, and multiple business functional experiences can sit beside a plumber and have a great conversation. A meaningful and fun conversation!
I once sold a rental property and spent all the profits on friends and regulars at PLT. Fully open bar and it was still less than a grand!
Laurie is awesome and I hope I did not misspell her name.  She has been there for as long as I can remember and has great stories.
PLT is a dive bar where a high class scavenger like myself is proud to hang his hat.

Ventured into this place last night for the first time with my neighbor.  It really wasn't what I was expecting as I was pleasantly surprised with the interior.  Plenty of places to sit and watch the games and friendly bartenders and waitresses.  Tough place to categorize as a variety of music was playing and the clientele followed suit.  One thing for sure is that I really liked the vibe and look forwarding to returning.

PLT is a good, very low-key time. The bartenders are very nice and friendly. The people there are pretty chill. There's a shuffleboard table (they really, really need a second one), a jukebox, pool tables, big TVs. The drinks are pretty moderately priced. Seems like a very "Cheers"-like establishment... wouldn't doubt that 95% of the clientele are regulars. Not a bad place to be, but not usually not my first choice. They do, however, get extra points for being right next to Delta's, who stays open late. Dive bar beers + greasy pizza = not a bad night.

Parmer Lane Tavern (or "PLT", as it is affectionately known) is a bar located in a strip center.  There are pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, a dance floor, a jukebox, a DJ booth, televisions, arcade trivia...basically a mish mash of everything you need to make a bar a bar.  It's decorated with vinyl beer signs supporting the Longhorns and Cowboys, and the carpet looks like it came with the building when it was built many years ago.

That said, PLT is a good time and a fine place to fall in and have a beer or two.  The clientele is almost always friendly, as are the bartenders.  With very little effort you can easily strike up a conversation about the aforementioned football teams, cars, REO Speedwagon, or the rising price of gas.

PLT is a simple bar for simple folks who drink regular beer and enjoy regular life.
