This review is 5/5 stars because for my family and me, The Parry Lodge was an absolute treat! Â We chose it because of 1) Kanab's location to canyon areas, 2) recommendations for the Parry Lodge we read in AAA and library books on the region, 3) its reasonable price.
We were greeted and welcomed by every staff member who worked there. Â The woman at the front desk (Marilyn with whom I'd made my reservation), the older gentleman who was the nightly movie host, the housekeeping staff, the entire breakfast staff who served me coffee as I wrote and read each morning, the waitress who said I looked like her brother, the older man at the front desk (who recently moved from ___?)... ALL WERE GREAT! Â (Only one staffer disappointed me a bit, a large younger fellow at the front desk who seemed more interested in his electronic device than tending to customer needs and requests...)
Parry Lodge may have been more of a treat for us, because we are not used to nor do we expect to be pampered. Â We try to keep things simple and frugal for the most part, so we can splurge or treat ourselves to other things.
Our days were spent hiking for 2 - 4 hours early each morning after driving to various destinations around (less than 2 hours from) Kanab. Â We made our own breakfasts and lunches out of what we had in our cooler and storage bins in our van. Â Then at the end of each day we headed "home" to Parry Lodge to make or go out for dinner (Escobar's, Big Al's, Subway, Three Bears,...), swim for at least an hour, take in a FREE Western movie (with a $1.25 soda pop) at the The Barn, and then settle down for a cool, comfortable night's sleep in our historic accommodations.
On two mornings we DID treat ourselves to the Parry Lodge's breakfast buffet! Â WHAT A DEAL!!! Â I mean, c'mon, I can't leave IHOP without spending at least $50 feeding a family of four with 2 teenage boys! Â Steve B.'s review (5/8/2013) says it all about the Parry Lodge breakfast buffet!
I took in all the film history I could while I was there by studying the Parry Lodge's walls, walking around town, reading all the signs, visiting the Little Hollywood Museum, reading all the free literature that was available, and talking with locals. Â (For a month after my stay I watched perhaps a dozen Westerns I'd never seen before - all filmed in and/or near Kanab.)
When I come back, I will stay again at the Parry Lodge!
This review is for the restaurant only. Â It also is only for breakfast.
Our company usually has a national meeting in Las Vegas each year. Â At the end of each meeting, there is a group of guys that rents a cabin in the mountains of southern Utah.
Several years ago, we stopped at this little hotel on the way to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Â It was just by chance as nobody in the group was Yelping at the time.
To be very clear - this place may have the very best breakfast buffet in the country. Â They have nearly everything. Â However, if you want something they don't have out all you have to do is ask. Â The waitress happily heads off to the kitchen to ask the cook to create what you want. Â They have never turned us down. Â Any kind of egg to waffles, the best bacon in the world (no limit on quantity), many kinds of fresh fruit, etc. Â Oh, the bottomless cup of coffee.
If you are ever in southern Utah, don't miss the chance for the best breakfast you will ever have.
