My boyfriend and I had a few beers and split the special - pulled pork nachos.
I also started with a Caesar salad. Unfortunately, the Caesar salad was quite overdressed, so much though that I wasn't able to really eat it. The server, while very outgoing and sweet, didn't ask how our food was. The pulled pork nachos were good for a few bites, but the pork tasted quite over cooked and possibly not fresh. They had a nice beer selection, and while the decor was outdated, it seemed like the kind of place you wouldn't want to contemporize. I'll try it again - a gentleman at the bar (seemed like a regular) told us to try the wings.
Saratoga Springs is loaded with many great bars and pubs but this is my favorite of them. Â A great selection of beer and liquor and they very often has wonderful live entertainment. Â The food is mostly typical pub fare, some Irish specialities, nothing super special but pretty good overall. Â They make an excellent chowder that has won several times at the annual Saratoga Chowder Fest that is pretty great. Â
Besides the great Irish bands, they have a regular dart league, Irish Step Dance lessons, and Celtic sessions.
I went here with a group of friends the other night ... most of the group was just getting out of work, and we didn't roll in until after midnight. Â
I had the buffalo burger and a beer. Â I'm going to be completely honest, even though it's embarrassing ... I was so hungry and wanted to order quickly, so I skimmed the menu and ordered the first thing that sounded good without reading the description. Â I thought, "a Buffalo burger sounds awesome ... it'll probably be covered in wing sauce and bleu cheese." Â Actually, that's buffalo with a lower case "b" ... as in, made out of buffalo meat. Â Sooo, since I had a bit of a blonde moment, I also didn't read the disclaimer on the menu where they advise against ordering the buffalo burger well-done (and I'm pretty against ordering burgers that aren't cooked all the way through--no E. coli for me, thank you!). Â In short, my burger was really, really dry. Â Since it was because of my own menu-reading laziness, though, I naturally won't fault the business. Â Plus, my snarky side couldn't help but notice that the dry burger added to that real U.K. pub feel. Â I would definitely go back in a state other than hunger panic and try another one of their burgers to see what they're really capable of. Â Also, the fries were scrumptious. Â
What really impressed me the most about the Parting Glass was that the bartender and the cook stayed open for us. Â It was probably close to one on a Monday night (Tuesday morning?), and I'm pretty sure we actually arrived after last call. Â We were hungry though, and they still served us ... my stomach is eternally grateful. Â On top of that, the bartender was really friendly and took great care of us.
I love The Parting Glass. My husband and I have been there many times and never had a complaint. Funny how the night I Yelp the place it was not a great experience.
Tonight we had a waitress who wasn't  friendly and outgoing, kinda put a damper on things. We were meeting friends who were 20 minutes away from arriving.  We sat down and ordered drinks. My husband and I wanted to order appetizers before our friends came and we were still deciding on appetizers when the drinks were ordered and delivered, Once our drinks came the waitress did not check on us until our friends arrived. We thought maybe she was saving herself for when our friends arrived, but no change.
The food was delicious as always, I had the cape codder and hubby had the bangers and mash.
Always love the atmosphere. Although I've never been to Ireland, I feel like I'm there when I'm at The Parting Glass. This was our first time there with a loud band in the back. It wasn't too bad, in my opinion. I could still hear my friend who was sitting kitty corner to me.
I am very sad to say this was the worst experience I had at The Parting Glass. If the service had been better I most likely would have given four stars.
Usually a good choice, ridiculous wait for our food, it's been 55 minutes and still waiting.  I started to write this at the restaurant and am revising it a bit.  The food was good especially The O'Reilly sandwich and the Fish and chips.  They also have an excellent selection of beer.  The reason for the poor rating was that we arrived around 6:50 and left around 8:50. We ordered our food around 7:10.  It was First Night  Saratoga which meant there was a schedule of events that we paid $60 to enjoy events.  The restaurant was about a third empty.  At around 8:15 we got a bit anxious and started to ask and we got a lame excuse about the kitchen being busy and their being a big party.  That should never be an excuse for poor service. My family left the restaurant at 8:40 to get seats at our 9 PM event and I left around 8:50.  The reason for the 1 rating is that it is never fun to rush to chomp down you food in 5-10 minutes and that ruined the entire experience for us.  So while I probably would have rated this place a 4 with normal service, it go a 1 because we were in too much of a hurry to enjoy the place.  As a topper, while in a rush to leave, the waitress brought us the wrong check.
Review Source:In town for a conference, I passed by this quaint corner pub en route to my hotel. Seeking a comfort meal, I would call my visit to The Parting Glass a successful mission.
The atmosphere inside this Irish pub is cozy and the bartender was attentive. Perhaps he was on his toes because a group of dart-wielding patrons there for tournament night had just left. At any rate, he suggested a nice beer to go with my sandwich which was basically a grilled cheese with four kinds of meat.
Offering sandwiches without soup or fries is kind of against my religion, and I am happy to report that The Parting Glass respects my beliefs. It was tomato basil soup- with artichokes! Why didn't I think of that? The French onion soup was also tempting.
I thought the portion size and quality was a good value, and I appreciate bars with coat/bag hooks. I am going to try to make it back for some lamb stew before I leave town.
We've been stopping in here for quite a few years. Â The biggest reason is for the large selection of good beers on tap. Â We hadn't been back in quite a few months so it seemed like a good excuse tonight as our stomachs reminded us what time it was while we were in the vicinity of Saratoga.
It's difficult to pass up Ubu when we see it on draft so that was a good start ($5/20 oz, pint) while we perused the combo place-mat/menu. Their Irish Nachos ($9.99) made with waffle style potato fries topped with just enough melted cheese and pieces of really nicely smoked bacon seemed like an good compliment to the Ubu. Â They were devoured quickly and completely.
Their Guinness Black Bean soup ($3.99 /bowl) is always a favorite ours. Â An additional $0.75 got my wife a large hunk of pub-baked bread to dip in it and ensure that it is an entree. Â I tried the more seasonal Pumpkin Bisque ($2.99 /cup) and found it hearty and full of flavor along with its bits of carrot.
I also chose the Rasher sandwich ($9.99) - imported Irish bacon, ham, melted cheddar cheese, and mustard sauce on egg-battered and fried, honey-wheat bread with Irish fries on the side. Â This was a nice moist and tasty sandwich. Â The mustard sauce gave it just enough tang to know it was there.
Our server, Jamie, was friendly, efficient, and made sure we were never in need of anything.
I've had quite a few hard ciders here. Â Sat at the bar and outside in front at a table. Â Both were bar loud and enjoyable. Â The brew's a little more pricey than some competitors, but it's just down the block. Â The burgers are really good and the wings the same. They have a live band on weekends. Â This is the biggest of the Irish Bars in town that I know of. Â No people problems and no patron problems. Â Good food, good beer and good times.
Review Source:Went to the Parting Glass a couple of nights ago with my boyfriend and a couple of his friends. It was really late and we were starving, so it was nice that they serve until close. We ate at the bar, although there was plenty of seating in the dining room if we wanted to eat at a table.
I ordered a pizza, I know not a great choice for an Irish Pub, but it was what I wanted. The pizza was okay, not great, but totally edible. It wasn't something that I would regret eating in the morning like a dough-boy, but it wasn't fantastic either. Totally average food.
My boyfriend on the other hand ordered the Bangers and Mash and loved them. His was a nice healthy portion of Bangers served over a heaping pile of mashed potatoes. I tried the potatoes, they were okay not as creamy as I would have liked them to be, but again we were eating there really late at night.
All in all we had a pretty positive experience. The service was friendly and who can really complain when they have so many great beers on tap. I will def be back, I mean who else serves late besides Hot Dog Charlies and Esperanto?
Went here after my friends wedding. She had an after party of sorts. They had a buffet laid out for us of appetizers and such. The food was good and the room while not private was sectioned off well enough. They had crazy gigantic beer dispensers and pool tables and dart boards. located close to a lot of other bars in Saratoga. Worth a stop on a crawl.
Review Source:The hubby and I went here with some friends for dinner. Their open faced turkey sandwich was to die for and I couldn't finish it. The hubby had a burger which he devoured and finished my dinner. They have a proper dining room, where a band was setting up and we were able to sit around and talk after our meal. Then, we moved to the backroom where everyone had plenty of room to play darts. It was a great atmosphere and had plenty of room to spread out. Was DDing that night, so have no comment on the drinks but the hubby's beers were reasonably priced.
Review Source:I loved it here. I spent two very nice evenings here while in Saratoga Springs for a conference. $5 pints of Strongbow (thanks to fellow Yelper Matthew M. for pointing that out in his review) made me super happy. On one night I had the shepherd's pie which was really almost as good as my dear departed Irish nana made. It was creamy with lots of meat and vegetables. There was a piece of bread underneath all the meat which had soaked up some of the juices. The mashed potatoes on top were thick and creamy and the battered and deep fried scallions on top were an awesome and unexpected finish.
The next night I had some french onion soup which was an excellent iteration. Strong heavy beefy broth, lots of onions and bread and a nice strong cheese (lots of it too) browned perfectly with little crunchy nummy bits on the side of the bowl. My husband had what was essentially a corned beef sandwich monte cristo style, he really loved it and it was huge. After not eating all day, he still couldn't finish it.
"Why I think The Parting Glass could be ONE of the best Irish Pubs in America"
a.) Fantastic Beer selection with reasonable prices. Â Also a better than average Irish Whiskey selection which one might assume.
b.) Excellent food - the usual and beyond. Â They actually have very satisfying pizzas as well as Corned Beef fare.
c.) Great Vibe - Nice crowd. Â Fantastic bartender (MIRANDA) - We were here three nights in a row and treated very well. Â Sometimes it pays to go to Saratoga in the off season.
d.) They have enough TVs but not too many if that makes sense.
e. ) Steel Tip Darts - The real way to play this classic game - plenty of boards in a spacious back room.
f.) SHUFFLEBOARD - A bar game that is not just anywhere. Â Fantastic Table board in the back room.
Open for lunch and late night. Â Great location across from the Hampton Downtown.
I look forward to going back to The Parting Glass soon!
Locals LOVE this place.
Big but always enormously PACKED. Â
They do a live irish music thing which is a really big show, but it's impossible to get a good seat. Â Least for me. Â But my pals swear by it.
Kinda of a goofy place- the way it's designed. Â I'm not a fan. Â
They have darts and that shuffleboard thing and what not. Â But I just don't really care for the joint. Â There are tons of better places in town!
My favourite place in downtown Saratoga. As far as i know this restaurant/pub has great food, great service, and amazing parties! They offer real pint glasses, always a plus. The inside is covered with cool photos and paintings of Saratoga Springs, bands, and of course horses. You can't bring your drinks outside so be careful.
Review Source:The only good place in Saratoga to go for good beer and a cheap burger. Â Just expect to wait a long time and get hairy eyes from the locals. Â There's shuffleboard in the back, and it's relatively clean. Â I've been here many times, but have since moved away from town. Â When I visit, you can bet you'll find me here. Â Cheers.
Review Source:The food has gone way downhill. Had a birthday party last month, ordered some wings and other apps for the party people and was totally embarrassed by the quality and quantity of the food. Greasy, obviously fried in old oil.
This used to be fun for beer and darts, but the vibe feels old and tired now.
There is no finer place to go for St. Patric's day than the parting glass. The place is large, and very festive. It's all Irish all year so they have reason to celebrate St. Patty's day.
Kevin McKrell and band played Irish tunes with a deep and stirring drum that makes you realize the Irish don't just love music, they are rectified by it. Tonified by tom drums. The tunes are about rye, whiskey, land and freedom. Irish tunes can be noodley and but these are robust and stirring.
This is the only night I'll have a draught from Parting Glass. They have notoriously dirty beer lines and and I can't tell you how many times I've got up the next morning with all sorts of unpleasantness because of their flat nasty draught beer.
Sweet potato fries? Yes! Egg dipped sandwich? Yes! Darts? You have to leave a credit card at the bar.
I love the Parting Glass, but the food has gone way downhill in recent years. Â It used to be passable pub fare - recently each time I've eaten there it is worse than the time before. Â This last time my son ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs - the meatballs were frozen. Â Not like, undercooked, but like as hard as a rock. Â My burger bun was just about as hard, and actually crumbled when I took a bite. Â
It is unfortunate, because for ambience and character, I love it.
What a fun place. Played my first game of darts here..got my arse kicked, but had a great time at it all the same! Had some tasty drinks, including a to-die-for shot of unknown composition made by a friendly bartender with a lovely Irish accent who put the drink together solely from my friends' input that I like vanilla vodka..never found out what she put in it, but man was it good! Was traumatized by hearing Britney Spears being sung after my local friend promised some live Irish music..egads! All in all, what a great time at a great place..definitely a good place to have drinks with friends if you're not interested in a meat market environment. I'll be coming back for sure the next time I'm in town.
Review Source:An institution for a reason, and a regular lunch spot for me and a co-worker. He goes for the great assortment of beers and I go for the Cape Codder. Oh. My. Gods. Imagine a pair of french toast slices (made from bread that just came out of the oven), with a generous amount of fresh roasted turkey sliced deli style (not to be confused with deli turkey) topped with swiss cheese and a cranberry mayonnaise. (Mmmf.. Sorry, drool...)
They have a similar sandwich made with Pastrami called the O'Reily.
The darts are solid, the bands notable and the bartenders are good pourers all. Take care of them, and they'll take care of you.
another place not to miss in saratoga! Â tim did a great job summing it up. Â this is my favorite bar to go to, as is my family's. Â my parents are/were obsessed with the mckrells (they grew on me too). Â if kevin is playing anywhere (with anyone) in the area, they're there. Â
back to the parting glass though. Â memories... i had my first black n tan here. Â gotten confused as a boy (it was winter & i had a big sweatshirt & hat on) here. Â hit with a dart here. Â and drank more times than i can count. Â the food's not half bad either.
it's always a rockin good time.
