I went to Peddler's with a group of friends after a wedding I had attended in the area. Â Peddler's looks like a nice place, certainly clean, and the service was actually efficient on a Saturday night. Â During the summer, they open up the patio, so you can sit inside or outside, which is nice. Â At night, they pare down their food menu, but they have a good selection of appetizers and burgers still. Â They also have a full gluten free menu, so if you're planning to eat gluten free (I wasn't, but someone in our party was), this is a nice benefit.
We decided to have some beer (pitchers seemed expensive here) and some appetizers. Â I spied a thai style calamari on the menu, which looked interesting, with a sweet chili sauce glazed over the calamari. Â However, I decided to order the crab and artichoke crostinis, which were delicious, but wasn't quite as filling as I had expected. Â Another person in order group decided to order an appetizer sampler, which included huge mozzarella sticks (looks more like a mozzarella brick).
Drawbacks, at night, this place is loud with booming music and the outdoor deck is teeming with smokers. Â Over the years, I've built more of an intolerance to both when I've gone out, so Peddler's will probably not be my choice for a weekend evening. Â However, their food seems decent and I may come here for lunch or dinner again.
I wish I could give negative stars to this establishment. Â The wait staff was horrible and had little to no idea what was on the menu, or what the menu items included. Â It took me over 15 minutes just to find out what kinds of salad dressings they had...
Once the food arrived, the portions were very disappointing for the price, and even worse, when i asked for a refill on my unsweetened iced tea, the cost of the second glass was added to the tab without being mentioned that each glass was charged for...
All in all, I have refused to ever set foot in that restaurant again...
Nice country bar decor, comfortable and warm. Â Great looking bar. Â Ordered turkey Reuben and bruschetta.
Bruschetta had soggy basil and no flavor.
Reuben had Russian dressing with too little ketchup and too much relish. Â Basically the same as the brushetta... thoughtlessly prepared.
Nice quiet place. Â
Try the burgers, they have to be better than what we ate.
I've been here a few times now so I think i've got a decent impression of the place. Â The style of the restaurant is very cool with indoor and outdoor seating and the ability to open up the walls in between the two so even if you're seated inside, you can still get a nice breeeze and feeling of ourdoors. Â
The food has always been decent....nothing exceptional but okay. Â
Service is also pretty average. Â Nothing to rave over or really complain about. Â The last time I went the other night, we had a large party and they were very accomodating and even allowed seperate checks but still included an 18% gratuity automatically on each check even though most were 1 or 2 people on each one. Â I'm not a fan of that.....I tip better than that when service is great and worse if service is bad....telling me I HAVE to tip a specific percentage rubs me the wrong way and in this case, the waitress lost out since I'd have actually given her more if she had left it up to me.
There's really nothing to rave about here. Peddler's is a bar with your typical bar foods.
It's a decent place that can get absolutely packed at times, but don't expect anything about it to blow you away. I've had both good and (somewhat) poor experiences here, but the good outweigh the bad, so I'd go back again.
Came to this pub fairly late on a Monday night after a tough few hours at The Edge rock gym in Clifton Park. The place is huge and apparently Monday's aren't its most happening night, so we had our choice of seating.
Our server wound up being great. Absolutely delightful. My water was never empty, our orders came out accurately and promptly.
We all decided on burgers, fries, and a basket of sweet potato fries. Everything was cooked to order with no problems. The sweet potato fries were delicious. Prepared perfectly and heaping. We also share the Thai-style calamari. Loved the chili-mango sauce.
Plenty of TVs to catch the game, live music on certain nights, and an outdoor seating area. Solid spot. I
Sometimes expectations can be your friend. I thought Peddlers would suck, and when it was OK/meh, I was happy! Will I go back? Probably not for food with so many options out there even just in C.P.
When we went parking was not an issue at all.
Food- 2 Stars
Decent not great food. BBQ Nachos were OK but too soggy. Also needed some more flavor of some kind.
Wrap we got was so uninspired I can't remember which one we ordered to split 2 weeks later.
Service- 3 Stars
Obviously new and young server was trying very very hard. Seemed too me liked they were giving her the old trial by fire method.
Atmosphere- 5 Stars
Clearly where Peddlers earns the majority of their business. Cool outside and inside, very well put together.
Value- 2.5 Stars
Nothing overly cheap or overly expensivo.
Perfect spot to get laid if you have a Declaration of Independance shirt (with wolf), or chinstrap (with tan and muscles). Â Calling the female customers Cougars is too generous, so the guys listed above should not have much trouble. Â If you grew up on Def Leppard and have graduated to Nickelback, Peddler's comes highly recommend.
Review Source:The restaurant itself is well decorated and the deck is definitely a nice thing in the summertime. I have only come here for work retirement parties but the waitstaff are friendly and service is good. The food that I have tried has been buffet style. Its not great but its not terrible. They have valet parking which is pretty much forced upon you because the parking lot is so small. Kinda annoying but they do a good job and I just throw them a couple bucks.
Review Source:OK this place is pretty cool to come and grab a few drinks at. Their outside patio is great during the summer just to sit and chill on. Now about the food, it is average food nothing to stop and say wow that was great. Their calamari is different here too, they don't serve it with the traditional marinara sauce on the side. They do it tai style with peanuts i believe in it...pretty different but good. Other than that I order sandwiches here and again nothing special. Warning:this place like all the other places the owners own ( Maxies and JJ rafferty's) is cougarville central....LOL!
Review Source:Okay you have been to this place in the capital district its call Maxie's, jt Rafferty's, etc same owners i believe. They may have built in Clifton park and made it look more upscale then the other two places, but alas its still a bar, dance club, nascar hang out. Any place that after 8pm the host and hostess turn into bouncers is not a top restaurant its a bar with high price food and drinks.
color it what you want its not a bistro and it shouldn't be in Clifton park maybe downtown troy or Schenectady hell redo Maxie's to look like the peddler and you got a gold mine.
The one bright spot is that my friends dish was out of this world and it was true Mediterranean cooking. Mine was a bar staple that came out last and cold with the end bits of fries.
Ok, ok, ok. People seem to really hate this place, and yet they always seem to have a good crowd of people here, so it can't be all that bad. I ended up coming here two days in a row, because I had accidentally left my credit card here the night before. We ate here both times, and were happy with our meals. The service the first night was very good, the next day it was okay. The drinks were very reasonably priced. I got a large gin and tonic for $5, which I think is a pretty good deal.
The parking situation? Alright, admittedly, it is rather bogus. For the type of place this is, valet doesn't really fit the bill. They probably should have held out for property where they could fit more parking. Personally, I didn't feel comfortable using valet at a bar/restaurant that isn't, for lack of a better word, "fancy". So I was one of those fools circling the parking lot 10 times until I found a parking space.
I'd like to come back here again on a less crowded night.
Parking is stupid, and their solution is valet.
My friend told me that if a couple is dining with a child they will only serve one of the adults alcoholic beverages. Interesting.
Music on the patio, an outdoor bar with connecting garage style doors to make this open air during the summer months, were all really nice touches.
The food included huge sweet potato fries, choice of cinnamon or salt. I estimated 2 large potatoes worth in a serving. I ordered the Tijuana scallops with steamed vegetables instead of couscous. This was prepared with the seasoned scallops but my "steamed vegetables" were heavily sauced and oiled down, so much for steamed.
The menu offers a wide variety of apps, wraps, salads, burgers, and entrees in an attempt to be different from the similar casual, chain, family restaurants.
Really nice covered outdoor patio area with large open-air bar and high top tables. Loved the fun outdoor decor and atmosphere. Came here for a lunch on a Monday and it was not very crowded at all. Great selection of salads and sandwiches/burgers/wraps. Pecan encrusted chicken salad was of large portion size and the chicken was quite moist and flavorful. The shrimp salad was a bit too spicy for my fellow diners- it would have been nice if this salad came with garlic bread (like some of the others did) to take away the bite of the spiciness.
Review Source:I went to Peddler's with a friend on a Thursday night, and although the restaurant itself wasn't very crowded (we had no problem getting right in), I still had to circle the parking lot a couple times until I could find a parking space. I agree with the reviewer who said to carpool to the restaurant if possible.
You can choose either indoor seating or outdoor seating, although one wall in open so you still get fresh air even if you sit inside. We chose to sit outside, and there was someone in the corner playing the guitar. His song selection was very eclectic and entertaining, although it was a tad too loud outside as a whole. I kept having trouble hearing what my friend was saying.
I ordered the California wrap, which was perfectly fine but nothing spectacular. My friend is a vegetarian, and commented on the lack of vegetarian options on the menu. Not even a veggie burger! My brother is a vegetarian too, and I worry I wouldn't be able to bring my family here if there aren't any good options for him. My friend ended up ordering a plain cheese quesadilla, which wasn't on the menu, but she said it was good.
Overall, I like the atmosphere here more than a lot of other chain restaurants in the area, so I will probably go back at some point.
For a restaurant that has only been open a week, Peddler's Bar and Bistro seemed to have it together.
Prices are reasonable, with most choices clocking in at around $10 to $15. Portions are reasonable, but don't expect to bring home much in terms of leftovers.
My Moroccan chicken with Israeli couscous was tasty, but the couscous was a bit too sweet for my taste. Friends were happy with their burgers and wraps, but no one seemed to like theirs as much as I liked mine.
Peddler's allows customers to swap fries for a salad at no extra cost, a very nice touch that is still surprisingly uncommon in the area.
My only complaint has to be the crowd -- I suppose it's to be expected for such a new restaurant, but still it's irritating to have to circle a parking lot looking for spaces. If you can, carpool. Peddler's let me make a reservation the night before -- I heartily recommend it, I overheard that the wait tonight was over 40 minutes, something that's unheard-of in Clifton Park.
I'm not sure how a voluminous space with ~40 tables, a patio, and a party area can call itself a bistro, but I'll ignore that part.
Menu-wise, Peddler's is just another American casual restaurant with a selection indistinguishable from Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday, and their ilk. Burgers, entrée salads, wraps, etc. There is a full bar (with table service), and many large TVs showing sports throughout the place.
Despite the abundance of sports and the bar, the atmosphere was the same as most other casual restaurants, i.e., not rowdy or lively. The tables were a bit squished together, sometimes unnecessarily slow. There where a few wide open areas that didn't seem to serve much purpose; I'd like to see them spread the tables out a bit. The parking lot was a little small, but it would be trivial to park at the adjacent Holiday Inn.
My wife and I chose the one stand-out item on the list, a Moroccan chicken dish. The chicken itself was dry (though my wife's was moist) and not heavily seasoned. The bed of couscous it arrived on, however, was a delight. It was smooth and creamy (but not runny) and had slices of apricot mixed in with hot sauce lightly drizzled on top. The combination turned out to be quite tasty, and, not that the portions are small, I was left wanting more.
I didn't hear any comments on the food from the others in my party who ordered a chicken cheesesteak (?) and a grilled chicken salad blah blah etc. I assume they were standard.
I had dinner at 6 on a Saturday with a party of 4. The meals took a long time to arrive, although one could chalk that (and the dry chicken) up to the restaurant having opened just a couple weeks prior.
Peddlers charges for soda refills. Everyone has their own strong opinion about that, but I must point out that we were not informed of this until the bill arrived. It may say so on the menu (I didn't bother checking, since so few places charge for them) but even so, at minimum the waiter should point it out when the first refill request is made.
Once the staff and kitchen settle into a groove I may consider returning for the same Moroccan chicken dish. For anything else, I don't see any reason to return to the restaurant unless it's the closest standard American casual chain nearby -- like I said, it's not distinguishable from the others.
