Great beer, great food, great staff, great music, great atmosphere.  What else do you need?

Tavern in a small town and the only place open, I wasn't expecting much from  the food. Booooy was I wrong! The pull pork and onion rings were top notch and surprisingly paired really well with their Chianti.

Five stars for the beers, the service, the scene, and the good company.  (I can't speak to the food since I didn't order any.)

To give a sense of how much this place is respected by the locals, you'll find on the wall a certificate from the Buddhist temple up the street.  It's authentic.  The wise ones know where to go.

Ask to go upstairs and see the mid-century family room, completely decked out in mid-1960s kitsch, games, furniture, &c.

Eclectic spot with memorabilia from all over - mostly with a Welsh theme and some pretty good beers on tap. I've been here a few times in the evening - pretty crowded and short staffed - usually one waitress and one (surly) bartender for a bunch of tables and a crowded bar. It's fun with a bunch of friends if you don't mind waiting for drinks and food but not so much for a couple. However, it's a great place to stop on a Saturday afternoon for a couple of locally brewed beers - we had the place completely to ourselves - the bartender was as pleasant as could be (maybe he gets surlier as the night goes on). I definitely would go back for a happy hour drink before going to the crandell.

After reading about this place in Metroland, I figured I would give it a shot...

    STYLE:
This place only get's partial credit for it's Welsh styling(or should I say attempt at) because it seems like the owners didn't finish the job. On the same wall they have an Irish flag, a head of an African antelope, a bulls skull, a Welsh Lion flag, a wooden piece of artwork carved and pained to look like an African American boxer and some other random trinkets. It seems a bit confused. I told the waitress I liked the Irish style they had and she told me jokingly, don't let the owner hear you say that it's Welsh! (It's about as Welsh as Chili's is Mexican, it looks like a pub).

    SERVICE:
Our waitress was super nice and very accommodating, the only problem was that she was the only waitress working at 7:00pm on a Friday. The place was pretty crowded and she was running around nonstop for the two hours we were there. It seems the owner doesn't want to pay for additional staff. The waitress wasn't able to refill our drinks as needed or do much else for us. She stopped by once to take orders and again when the food came. This place has so many great beers and the waitress will give you samples if you like. I wanted to try a number of the beers but the waitress did not come back enough. So I only tried the Murphy Stout and the Chatham Porter...I recommend both highly, I was disappointed though because the beer selection is part of the reason I was excited about this place...

    FOOD:
The food took a long time to come and when it did the cooks in the back thought our waitress wrote "hot dog" instead of hot wings. A dozen hot dogs? Who eat's at this place Kobayashi?? So I had to wait an additional 15 minutes for my wings(I was going to cancel the order but again our waitress was never around). The wings, when they did come were strange. They were breaded like fried chicken. Imagine KFC but miniature with hot sauce on them. Imagine EPIC FAIL! The ravioli my  girlfriend got was spectacular, however. They were out of steak fries so I got the sweet potato fries. I think the sweet potato fries are the same ones I buy at price chopper sometimes and I was disappointed they weren't fresh, they tasted frozen and reheated.

The bill came to $40 for two people. On the surface that doesn't seem bad but we only ordered one entree, an appetizer and a side. The beers are $5 a piece. That's pricey, especially since the two beers I had were local brews. The place gets 1 star for the beers and 1 star for the ravioli. This pub left much to be desired.

Two more things. 1 they do not take credit cards...CASH ONLY. 2 Friday night is when they have live bands, the one that was there was decent from the little I heard.

Wonderful ambiance, very family oriented with board games and magazines available while one sits and sips.  Great selection of brews, ever changing due to the restless curiosity of owner Tom.  And the food has become remarkably good.   Plans afoot to open for lunch, which would be a great boon for Main Street.

    It's true - it's a real Welsh-style pub.

It's a very comfy place with a good selection of brews on tap, cozy couches and a fireplace and most importantly - plenty of taxidermic animals. Apparently there used to be a real stuffed cat in the ladies room (snort, I won't go there) but it appears to be gone.

If I lived in Chatham, I'd probably be here a lot.
