We came across Desiree's totally by accident. Â Stopped for gas and a quick errand in Chatham off the Taconic Parkway and saw the sign from the road claiming "Home of the BEST Soup Ever." Â Pretty strong words for a place that shares a building with Real Estate agent, but we were willing to give it a shot.
First, when you walk in, it feels like you are kind of walking into someone's living room - we actually apologized and asked if we had come in the wrong door. Â Assured that we were in the right place, we ordered a turkey sandwich, some drinks, and a bowl of the beef barley soup. Â
They do seem to make everything from scratch - the host (i imagine it may have been Desiree herself!) pulled all the stuff out of their cooler and went to work assembling our order. Â She said they make their own turkey and roast beef and the soup certainly seemed like something my mom would make. Â Things weren't necessarily served fast, I struggle to see how they would react to over 3 customers coming in at one time, and I am still not sure if it was the best soup EVER - that is a bold claim!
Overall, though we were pretty pleased with the food, the service was very warm, and thought it really hit the spot.
Additionally, we had lots of good jokes about what sort of demon was possesing the crazy fan that was in their bathroom. Â It sounded like something in between a demon wood chipper and that zombie dog from Ghostbusters. Â Also, there was a small girl there with an adorable tiny dog named Gizmo - nice! Â Solid dog name!
