I like this place. Â It's perfect if you want to just play a couple games of pool, enjoy a few frosty ones after work, or if you want to listen to some live music on a weekend night. Â We've gone for all three reasons, and have no complaints at all. Â now, i will say the pool tables aren't exactly professional or regulation, but for a fun challenge between friends, it will certainly do.
and I am one of the few smokers remaining, it seems - and I really like that you can smoke in there, and you don't get dirty looks from other patrons!
This place has so much potential, but for some reason it is never crowded and seems to be going downhill. Â I love to go see some of my favorite local bands here - they have a large stage and dance floor, but for some reason most people end up sitting around the bar which is across the room so in front of the stage and dance floor it is empty. Â There are no waitresses here so you have to go to the crowded bar to get drinks. Â If they re-arranged the set up here, this could be a pretty decent live music venue. Â Unfortunately, they do allow smoking here, which is a major negative.
Review Source:This is a great watering hole...
when you live right next door, the party is grinding on at your place and you need a change of scenery.
The drinks are decently priced, decently made and go down decently well.
They have decent cigars in their case, which are decently priced for a decent sized smoke. Yes, this means that the ladies should leave their nice purse at home and be prepared to hack up a lunch the morning after.
They have decent fried food which is cooked in the COOLEST FREAKING FRYING MACHINE I HAVE EVER LAID MY EYES ON! Its by far the coolest thing this place has to offer. With a name like fry-a-lator its gotta be good!
One of the cooler things about this place is the 80s cover band that plays. They really get after it. If I was in the mood to drink and wanted out of the house and knew when they were playing, I would probably make the trip.
I've always had fun at this bar. Â It's laid back and not nearly as pretentious as other "trendier" bars. Â It's a good place to kick back, hear a good band, and throw down a few beers or ten. Â The crowd is a little older, but so am I, and it's in the middle of suburbia, but all in all a fun place to go relax. Â Most of the bands I've heard there are heavier rock or even classic rock.
Review Source:I'm sorry to say but this is not a place you want to go with your group of girlfriends! My girls and I went for a recent girls night out and we needed a male escort to feel secure!! The drinks were reasonably priced and the band wasn't terrible but the crowd was not to our liking. I can't really imagine a scenario where I would feel compelled to make a second visit!! I've had better!!!
Review Source:the bar takes up half the place. one good thing of that is they have a wide selection of poisons. Up until the end of summer, they still had an entire wall of TUBE TVs. Some were discolored and ugly, half the wall itself wasnt even on. BUT i recently went back and noticed they have replaced all their crappy TVs with BIG BRIGHT PLASMAS. So this detail helps a lot with the feel of the place. It now feels like a neighborhood sports bar instead some dark, beat-up corner to drink at.
they have finger foods available but i have yet to try any out because the menu (to me at least) is impossible to find. so the options are there, you just need to be a bit of an investigator.
it does get rowdy/crowded some nights, especially when there is live music or karaoke. so you are warned/encouraged.
i give it a three just because there's nothing stand out about it. It's a solid choice to hang and watch a game or shoot some pool (if you can wait long enough to get a table, they have four or five) but not much else.
I see this bar as a place you go to hang out with a few friends after a days work or youre just wanting to get out of the house. but not special events or big sports nights. In the neighborhood, this is a solid choice but there are better things around town DEFINITELY.
Pennisons is the kind of place that can be a little too fun when you're with your friends, but not the type of bar you would want to go to by your self.
Come for the drinks, not for the food. While Pennisons does have a food menu, it consist of items you find in the frozen food section of your local grocery store (pizza rolls, microwaveable hamburgers etc.) I have to admit, the pizza rolls can be quite savory after some hard drinking, but you should probably eat before visiting a little bar such as this one.
To keep the patrons busy, you can play pool, darts and NTN trivia. They also offer karaoke and live music a couple nights a week.
