Pete's Club has been around since I was a girl under more guises than I can count, but this latest card room thing needs serious chnage. It is a large venue and is being wasted as far as I can see. The lyout of the card tables, the patron seating and the br lacks flow. They must heavily rely on card players for income is all I can say. The bar area is filled to capacity every time I have been there. The male to female ratio is astounding to the point I feel uncomfortable even being there. I liken it to a mancave. Tacky decor, sad seating and men stuff all over the place. Where is the food, the service and the "I wanna be there" motif? I snacked on chips though I was starving. i was almost afriad to try the food. This is a great venue, but it is being wasted..Whe I go to spend the evening somewhere, I want choices. I was just glad to get a seat for the several hours I stayed there and won't be back anytime soon..
Review Source:I guess the third time is the charm. Â From my previous reviews, I was disappointed because the service was so slow. Â The bartenders seemed bothered to wait on us. Â HOWEVER, we went in a third time and received excellent service from Adam, a new bartender. Â Then we went back another time and had excellent service from a brunette bartender (don't remember her name). Â Both were very attentive. Â These two are real gems and I hope they stay because they won our business back. Â The food is quite good. Â The pizza is a great deal and the prime rib was well cooked.
Review Source:I was new to the area and came here to watch the Bulls vs. Heat game. That said, they do have big TVs. On Thursdays  at 6:30 they also have a lingerie show and a raffle for said lingerie. Right off the "model's" body.
If you are female, you will absolutely be in the minority at Pete's. If you are like me--a female who enjoys the company of classic rock-loving townies who are tanked from drinking screwdrivers--you are a fortunate minority.
I started coming here in 2005 and it's still pretty awesome. I love the fact I can get off work at 12am and still come here for food, which is served til 1am. Younger Bartenders are friendly and talkative but what you won't find are the 21 year old bimbos who want a club feel. After a little while it's sort of a CHEERS kinda place, that's right everyone knows your name and they know your regular. Drink are strong, food is fresh and for the most part rarely that creepy guy who won't leave you alone.
Review Source:Great place!! One may get intimidated when first driving by or walking in due to it looking like a whole in the wall. However, the food here is GREAT (you have to lower your expectation of fine dining, it's a bar). The sports being shown is always on (beware non-Giants fans).
The best part is the poker games. One of the best in town I tell ya. 3-6/4-8 NO LIMIT as well as turbo tournaments. I'd love place and glad I didn't past it by. The people were nice and friendly.
DEFINITELY DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER HERE.
So , TB is a poker player and I mentioned this place to him many moons ago. We came today hoping he could play but the tourney doesnt start until 4pm. Its a sports bar as well. The thing when we came in, obviously sports fan, nobody even bothered to say hello or just ask what we need.
Its okay when poker starts if you are a poker player, but their customer needs more help.
Dive bar? Honestly? Â This is a straight up sports bar. Â NO dive bar has 10 tv screens with various sporting events being broadcast simultaneously. Â A true dive bar may have 1 or 2 showing the Metallica "One" video, but not 10 with baseball and poker! Â Calm atmosphere, great bartender, but dive bar-NO WAY. Â This is a sports bar. Â That said, my beer was fresh and a mixed drink was served perfectly... Â Not really my thing.
Review Source:Love this place! Perfect dive-ish bar complete with lingerie show on Thursday evenings is a must go to. They also have a prime rib dinner on this night, which is quite delish! Staff is very friendly, place is clean, and just off the San Rafael strip that you don't get the typical downtown db's that have taken over the San Rafael scene.
Review Source:Awesome bar, and hardly a dive. . . well maybe if you were born and raised in and never left Marin. Come on though. . . It is a gem and everyone is always very friendly and often looking to have a conversation with a stranger. Cheap drinks and free WIFI and some really good food round out an awesome little place that you could drive by for years without realizing it was there. Just go!
Review Source:I spent a good chunk of my New Year's Eve at Pete's 881, my first time actually entering the hometown institution. Pete's has been around for over half a century, and due to this it is one of the few places around that still has legalized gambling! As a person who enjoys playing some poker with friends, I was very excited to see a real live card room in the middle of Marin County. Combine that with food, dart boards, a pool table, full bar, and sports on the several flat screen TVs and you have a winner. I definitley will be back.
Pete's is well hidden and certainly appears to be a real dive, tucked at the very end of Lincoln in San Rafael (no longer 881 4th Street)... And be advised, If you are a twenty-something, you will certainly be in the minority at Pete's 881.
I ordered a Black Russian here and it came tall and strong. Yum. Â Try the Mexican chicken sandwich. I'm giving it 5 stars because it's the only public poker game in Marin, Â it's a historic place, and they just had installed one of the best Poker murals in the world on one of the walls. They have the only weekly Omaha tournament in the continental USA here, and the place and people are real. It's the same crowd as at Noonan's, but here the same crowd looks like trash. Perfect.
Review Source:what a great place. they had the sharks, giants, a's, and warriors games on all at the same time. also they had poker going on at the same time. it is a great sports bar. everybody made me feel comfortable. i will go back. bar none, it is the spot for sports, poker, food, and drink in marin county.
Review Source:Update 4/30/07
Things I have learned:
1. Â Admit when I have made a mistake.....
2. Â Make certain I always say I am sorry when I have made a mistake....
3. Â .... and UPDATE my YELP review!!!!
I misjudged Pete's 881 Club. Â I was somewhat "high-jacked and outed by my very good friend" and had was taken to Pete's.... I had offended a few people who work there and people who are customers... Â Hurting or offending anyone has never been my motto or motive in life.... Â Sooooooo I went and fessed up to review and I have to tell you I met wonderful people who were having a good time and a bartender who was working her ass off and still had time to smile. Â I wish I remembered her name, but alas I am horrible with names...
...... I have heard they have wonderful food... but the truth is and this hasn't changed, when I have been there one guy didn't want to cook anything "his quote not mine" he said if it didn't go in the microwave I wasn't going to get any... Â
Don't be scared.... it is a "dive bar", but I happen to love dive bars because you do meet the nicest and most down to earth people you could ever meet... so for the Owners of "PETE's" when I say dive bar is is the highest compliment that I could ever give any place of business!
This place scares the "shit" out of me.... Â I mean it and I love dive bars... but this place is lower than a dive bar... Â this is beyond dive... this is bottom of the ocean dive... Â this is dive and you will die dive...
I went 2 times.... and I am a talker.. and everyone I talked to either had, was, knew, or was dating someone who either had, was, employed, or a resident of San Quentin...
Awesome food, stiff drinks, Great music - not everynight. Â one pool table, one pinball table, one golden tee, atm, a few dart boards. Its a big place, perfect for music and for sitting down to eat. They make really good burgers. Good people, good times. black jack 22 and other casino games certain nights.
