We have tried this restaurant three times and we are finished and will never go again. Â They have a gluten free menu which includes pizza. It was terrible and it wan't even the crust! Hardly any sauce and the worst tasting cheese and toppings. Vegetarian that included a few mushrooms and some onions? This is Vegetarian pizza? Oh, we paid extra for the veggie pizza. Â :( Â I have also tried their regular menu and both are so incredibly over priced... it is a sin. Â How do you charge 17.00 for pasta with red sauce and a tiny salad? Â This isn't an upscale place mind you... it's a neighborhood restaurant that is terrible. Â How does one screw up Italian food, really?
My husband ordered eggplant parm and it was so tough he couldn't even cut it with a regular knife. We asked for a steak knife and the server said they didn't have any, okay... now what. Â
Honestly, the service is okay, maybe even good, but that just doesn't cut it (excuse pun) when it comes to food and price. Â I don't have grand illusions but give me a break. Fix the darn men and get better cooks.
I really would love to give this visit higher stars but sadly I can't. Â We have previously eaten lunch there and thought the food was excellent and were excited to try again for dinner. Â
We were fortunate to get a last minute reservation through open-table for 8 pm on Saturday night. Â Glad we had the reservation as the place was packed with few groups waiting. Â We were seated right away...and the promptness ends there.
Our waitress must have been new...I can only hope she was new and will improve as I don't think I have experienced such poor service before. Â Slow in getting drink orders (family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 kids 10 and 13) Â we had beer/soft drinks on order and that took 15 minutes to arrive. Â Sensing it was going to be slower than usual we adjusted our orders to eliminate the appetizers and go straight for the entree. Â But unfortunately she didn't want to take our order after dropping off the drinks - we had to wait another 10 minutes. Â It was 8:30 by the time she took our orders!
The food was average to poor. I ordered a salad and papperdelle with bolognese. Â Normally excellent and would have been but for it arriving at the table tepid. Â The shrimp risotto featured undercooked rice, onions and shrimp and was not in the least bit creamy. Â The crab cakes were excellent, but sadly served tepid again. Â The last meal was the chicken strips for the kids meal which were served piping hot.
The owner came by to check on us and we expressed our disappointment over the risotto and the temperature of the other dishes (not the strips though!)  She offered to remake the risotto but by that point it was a little after 9 and we were done.  When the waitress came back several minutes later to check on us, she offered dessert on the house to make up for the meals (nice offer) and we took her  up on it.
After another 20 minutes for the desserts, a flustered looking waitress appeared at the table to tell us they are all out of vanilla ice cream for the chocolate lava cake, but if we really wanted it she could run next door to get some. Â Before we could decline, my son said yes and off she sprinted. Â Literally. Â So I took advantage of this break to stretch my legs. Â I kind of wish I hadn't. Â The restroom clearly showed that this restaurant had been slammed. Â Overflowing trash bins in the stall and overflowing trash bins by the sinks. Â But what bothered me was the employee who was taking a break just tossed her used paper towel into the overflowing bin instead of tidying up.
Back to the table to catch our out of breath waitress delivering our desserts. Â They looked great, especially as she used the dessert plates to shove the dinner plates out of the way to make room for the desserts. Â Yep..all the plates were on the table..bread plates, salad plates, soup bowl and 4 large entree dishes and now 4 desserts. Â The lovely aroma of garlic mingled so nicely with my creme brulee. Â And again the owner stopped by to check on us. Â I felt compelled to let her know that the waitress ran next door to get the ice cream...not one of the 2 hostesses standing by, nor any of the busboys (who didn't actually bus) but our waitress. Â She laughed and said she would speak to her. I also commented on all the dishes left at the table and again received a warm smile and promise to talk to the waitress. Â However, she did not pick up a single dish.
So my final review on this is the food can be excellent and the desserts are amazing, the service is a critical component of the whole meal and in this case was terrible.
