This was the worst meal I have ever had. My boyfriends salad had no dressing. My daughters liguine and clams  tasted like dirt, my penne with mushroom sauce tasted like beef broth and had no seasoning, and my boyfriends veal parmesan had no flavor what so ever. They had the manager come over and he replace my daughters meal, sent back my meal and my boyfriends meal because they were so bad. They still had us pay for our salad and both me and my boyfriends meal which cost $70. I will never go back to this place. Dont try it, you will be very disappointed!!!
Review Source:Very delighted with our dining experience this evening at The Place! Â This restaurant was recommended to us by someone in our family. Â We were told we had to take them along when we went. Â Well we were driving through Roseville this evening and hadn't eaten yet, so pulled in and said let's give it a try. Â So yes now we are in trouble, because we went alone. Â We were greeted at the door by Eric. Â A very nice man, and we truly felt welcome as soon as we walked in. Â Our waitress Mikela was extremely helpful and very pleasant as well. Â The atmosphere, the music, and the food were truly amazing. Â And we were told next time we will not just be guests, but we would be family. Â I love this old fashioned feeling, that has been lost in so many dining experiences! Â We will definitely be going back!!
Review Source:Very nice authentic Italian gem in downtown Roseville. We had the Mike's Big Balls, 2 meatballs for appetizer, very good, not spicy but very flavorful and excellent sauce. My wife had the Broccolini Alfredo, I had the Green Monsta chicken pesto pizza. The alfredo sauce was just awesome, without being too rich, the chicken and broccolini fresh, the pasta perfectly al dente. The chicken on the pizza was not dry, like some can get, the pesto was fresh and flavorful, and the crust was not too thin or thick and perfectly done. The portions are good sized, we both took half our entrees home. (the pizza is about 10-12", easily feeds 2 or 3)
I finished with a small cannoli. We both loved it, and my wife is Italian yet doesn't usually care for cannoli. She had the zeppole and it was huge and very well made. We brought home a bunch of biscotti, too!
Quiet time seemed to be Sunday lunch, when we went. They do get a lot of families around 4 and on, with children.
They have a live piano player and accordion on Fri., Sat. nights from 5-9, and playing a lot of 50's-60's Sinatra style music, giving it a really nice ambiance. Fully stocked bar, and lots of tables.
We will be making this a regular Sunday thing!
Just discovered an Italian gourmet oasis - a quaint restaurant right in downtown Roseville at 221 Vernon Street! Â Having traveled globally, especially in Europe, we just love The Place as authentic Italian! Â Food is EXCELLENT, service was professional, very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable (even provided the Sangria recipe handwritten with notes!). Â Prices are reasonable and portions of salads, calzones, and pizza are beyond adequate. Â Desert too - recommend the cheese cake; and another plus is the entertainment - a la live piano music by Mike and an occasional "squeeze box" rendition of old Italian tunes reminiscent of Boston's North End, Venice, and Capri, Itay.)
After living in Rocklin, CA 20 years, and looking for top quality Italian food, we are delighted to have finally found The Place and highly recommend it to you! Â Dinner just now -- with anticipation of lunch soon! Â Cheers and enjoy!
This place is awesome. We sat at the bar and the bartender was really friendly and helpful with all our questions. I ordered a Sangria and the bartender MADE it from scratch..didn't pull out a bottle of pre-mixed wine!!...that scores 5 stars in my book...BUT it just keeps getting awesome. They have a nice happy hour menu with pizzas and appetizers. We ordered a app and then by the bartenders recommendation got the Muffaletta pizza... I'm so glad we took his advice. Â Soooo good! The pizza wasn't overwhelmed with toppings. I hate when you pick a slice of pizza up and the end droops down and half the shit falls off..fail. This pizza was still crispy, the toppings were evenly distributed, and the wood oven makes it even better. We will definitely be back!!
Review Source:I love this place. I've been her twice and both the food and atmosphere been great both times! Johnny was our server each time, he is  super sweet and knowledgeable, we thoroughly enjoy when our server can tell us what they love on the menu and why.
I couldn't be happier with our evening, we shared the margarita pizza and americano, amazing. The crust is to die for! The previous visit, we had the mushroom pizza as well, it was not my favorite
We were delighted by our first visit to The Place.
The dinners were wonderful and the Sangria was perfect. I have since stopped by for take out pizza and it was awesome! They make their own bread, too,,,really outstanding.
The wait staff were friendly and attentive but not intrusive, which is quite a talent to be both.
There is also parking in the rear and a back entrance is available if the Vernon Street slots are full.
Really really WANTED to love this place. I'm a sucker for woodfired pizza and driving past all the time when our friends asked us where we wanted to go to dinner we suggested here.
Well we come in and love the live music the man played music for our little girls the whole night and definitely kept them entertained. That was the best part of the night...
The prices on the menu seemed a bit high but we went with it expecting amazing food. Our 6 dollar "mixed greens salad" was iceberg lettuce with tomatoes on it. Last I checked iceberg wasn't considered mixed greens by anybody. But theres more. We order the margarita style pizza expecting it to be amazing and fresh. What we receive is decent in flavor but the tomatoes were clearly mushed up from a can. I was expecting beautiful fresh slices of tomato, wouldn't you? Our friends order pasta, very bland. So the children just ate the complimentary bread and a few bites of the adult meals. We receive the bill with an automatic 18% gratuity. I understand on parties of 6 or more. But there were four adults and two toddlers who required nothing of the server. Then when we asked them to split our bill between the two parties, it was split down the middle. Instead of separating the two parties. I really want to like this place and will most likely give it another chance. But as of right now I still have a bitter taste in my mouth over the triple digit bill and iceberg lettuce. Nothing including iceberg lettuce should cost over 100 dollars.
The food here was good. I had the pizza and it was baked nice and crispy, just the way I like it. Unfortunately, our server/waitress  although friendly was quite deceptive.  I asked our waitress what toppings were on the special (pizza) and as she listed them, I noticed she said mushrooms which was not on the board of listed toppings. I followed up to confirm with her that mushrooms were indeed on the special and she said yes. When the check came I noticed and extra topping charge on the bill for mushrooms. I don't mind paying for the extra toppings, but I would've appreciated being told rather than the waitress making a mistake and charging me for it.
But, there's more... We also ordered bread and olive oil herb dip. Luckily we were told it would cost more, which we were fine with. We ate the bread with the dip and they refilled the dip without asking us. Once again, when we looked at the bill, we were surprised to see that they charged us for 2 orders of the dip.
But, that is not the end of it. It just so happened to be my birthday that day, so they asked my friends before dinner started, if we would like one of their desserts personalized with my name on their dish. Of course, they said sure assuming it the birthday dessert would be comped (like most restaurants). Surprisingly (or rather not), there was a dessert charge on our bill too for that.
So, despite the beautiful decor, great quality of food, Â all of these unwanted surprises kind of blew the experience. Charging extra is fine, just don't be so deceptive about it and not tell your customers beforehand.
Searched Google the other night for wood fired pizza in Roseville and The Place came up. It had good reviews so we figured we would give thema try as I have been searching for a good local pie. I am very pizza particular.
We were greeted by the bus boy who was extremely friendly and as our visit continued the service was excellent. The ambience is nice as well.
We started with Grammys salad which was fresh, crisp and not overdressed.
Then we had the Italaiano Pizza...It was good, but still not that magic pie that I have been searching for.
We will return return and we suggest that you try The Plasce in Roseville as well.
My rating would be 3.5 stars if that was aloud.
We live nearby and always pass this place. We wanted a decent Saturday lunch. Can't say we were impressed with the food.
However, the place is intimate and offers huge portions at a low cost. Seriously less expensive than McDonald's. Nice staff. Clean. We didn't wait very long for our food. Did I mention it was well priced? Okay, good.
The food did leave little to be desired though. I got a burger with bacon and cheese. Fool proof, right? Well, the bun was delicious but the burger lacked so much flavor not even the salty bacon and cheese could help satisfy my taste buds. French fries, too.
Husband had a different kind of burger and shared similar feelings. Because it was so affordable I will be back to try the wings and am crossing my fingers that they find the seasoning back there in the kitchen.
The Place has been open now for a year, and while good, it still has a ways to go. Â The food is decent, but not excellent, and your appreciation of its sizable portions will increase the hungrier you are. Â A lot has been written here about its home made bread; our experience of this pre-dinner filler has been uneven - sometimes hot and tasty, sometimes a cold, doughy sponge...should be a simple enough aspect of the meal to get right.
Our experiences with entrees has been pretty positive, and what they offer seems standard and good, if perhaps timid. Â The pasta is always tasty, properly cooked al dente, and the sauces are flavorful and rich without being runny. Â The specials have all been good - delicious, even - but again nothing spectacular. Â They might try expanding things just a bit and taking a few chances with the menu.
Something to keep in mind: The Place is noisy. Â Each night we have been, there has been a piano player who also doubles as a roving acordionist, enthusiastically engaging tables as he wanders about the restaurant. His talent is undoubted, and many people were obviously really enjoying his playing. Â Just know what you are in for if you go there expecting a quiet, romantic meal, because this place isn't that. We found it essentially impossible to carry on a normal conversation at our table. Â If you want to go somewhere and have a sing-a-long, laugh loudly, maybe with a group of friends, The Place might be just the place!
My wife and I have now had dinner twice at The Place. Â A big supporter of Roseville's efforts to revitalize our downtown, I am very hopeful for The Place to succeed, not least because it is a family run operation. Â Roseville is already awash in tasteless, cookie-cutter restaurant chains. Â The Place seems to be making a real effort, and I believe we need to continue to support them as they hopefully continue along the path to Getting It Right.
Our family (a party of 18) went here for lunch the other day, and it was fantastic! I'm not gonna lie (I know I sound like a snob)- my husband and I are foodies, and live in the Bay, so have a lot of great, quality food around us. My family lives in Roseville, and so we came here. It was absolutely delicious. I loved their unique non-alcoholic drinks (I'm pregnant), my husband enjoyed their pour-over coffee, and everyone in the party loved the food. My favorite was the Smoky Mushroom pizza, but their caprese salad was wonderful too. I love discovering quaint, family-owned restaurants!
Review Source:We decided to try The Place last night as it was conveniently located right near the Tower Theatre where we were attending the animation festival.
The Place was very crowded...almost full to capacity at 7:30 on a Saturday night. Â We were greeted promptly and they quickly cleaned a great table right up front by the window.
The service was attentive, given the number of people in the restaurant. Â We commented on how busy it was, and they told us that earlier it was almost empty and then, unexpectedly it filled up. Â That's a great tribute to a place that can adjust their workflow accordingly.
We ordered a pitcher of Sangria. This was one of the best Sangrias I have ever tasted. Â Loaded with grapes, soaked in rum, this is a must.
All of our food was excellent.
For an appetizer we ordered the fried risotto balls. Â Big and delicious, it gave me a chance to taste their red sauce. Â It was as close the red sauces I remember from the east coast. Â One of the best I've had in California for sure.
The make their own soft italian bread. Â It is mouthwatering yummy goodness.
My linquini with clams was perfect. Â It was balanced and flavorful, and the portion sizes were generous.
We ended up ordering a second pitcher of sangria and our only question at the end was "can we find an excuse to return here soon!"
We ate here for a long Sunday lunch. We enjoyed everything about The Place. The menu is updated with a Sunday Special. Fantastic Dip for the Fantastic bread, which my partner and i did not mind paying for one bit. Delious! A great neighborhood establishment. Â
Everything went well except the Niners lost today.
My family really enjoys The Place! Â We visit this establishment every 2-3 weeks and each time the food was good and the staff was friendly. Â
Our order never changes:
App: Caprese skewer and the Big Balls
Dinner: Trio formaggio, Italiano, Americana. Â
I've tried the Bosciola before; it was good but a little to buttery for me. Â We eat dinner early so we never had to wait and usually one of the first people there.
Just to note: Get the pizza! Â It's delicious! Â You do not have the option of anything else besides thin crust. Â They prepare the fresh pizza dough daily so if you visit late they might be all out!
My wife and I have been here four times now -- once for dinner, and three times for happy hour. Each time we have patronized this establishment, we have been treated as members of the family. The staff here has been warmly inviting.
The food is delightful, hearty, yet sophisticated. From the happy hour menu, we ordered "Mikey's Big Balls", a hearty portion of well-seasoned meatballs in a bowl of savory marinara. We also ordered roasted garlic focaccia. Both of these menu items were fresh and tasty.
They have a new handcrafted cocktail menu that contains sophisticated variations on classic libations.
The atmosphere is open, light, airy, and clean. All in all, this is a great independently owned bar and restaurant. We love it that there is such a great local joint in our town.
The thin crust pizza was beyond delicious. The interior/ environment is cozy, romantic, quaint . The full bar is always open and have great drinks. Good place for business lunch.
The waitresses are nice and friendly. The prices are much higher than what most expect from a small business and portions are smaller than average resturants.
Been here twice, but may not return. If the pizzas weren't so good I wouldn't go back, that saved one star.
Service is abysmal. There were 2 tables with diners in the restaurant and it was time consuming to get my antipasto tray out. This requires no cooking, why the HUGE delay? And then when it came there was a ramekin of ricotta with a shriveled miniature fig in it with nothing to put the ricotta on. We couldn't put the ricotta on the two slices of bread that came at the beginning because we waited so long for the antipasto the bread was already gone. The castelvetrano olives, Greek pepperoncini (couldn't they go with the garlic and dill kind to make it Italian?), and cold cuts (prosciutto, sopressata, and salami). The cold cuts were delicious.
For wine by the glass there is only 1 choice of red and 1 choice of white, otherwise you have to buy a bottle. Not cool.
Don't waste your time on the pasta. It is nothing you can't do at home from a store bought jar & dried pasta. Ordered the linguine marinara with sausage and it was broken up sausage like a meat sauce and not sausage links. The marinara was thin and soupy, not a fan! Rustic pizza but processed thin marinara & sausage is a disconnect.
The pizza is good. I have had the Prosciutto di Parma and the Margherita pizza, both were delicious. It is no joke, the pizzas are good. That is all you should order here. But probably TO GO and with an advanced phone call so you don't have to wait, and wait, and wait on the wait staff.
But be warned you could be rushed out the door. While chewing the bus girl asked me if she could box my pizza. So I took her up on the offer. I think they wanted me out of there so they could all stand around and socialize at the back of the bar.
Additionally, the wait staff looks dumpy. T-shirts and capri pants at these prices doesn't cut it. And the owner looking lady was even more casual. The bus girl was appropriately dressed, and the bartender was as well., in fact the bartender is the only one who doesn't LAG on service. Perhaps boozing up is supposed to make you not notice all the other flaws? But all those extra dumpy waitstaff chatter boxes at the back need to dress properly and serve with diligence to justify the menu prices because the food isn't good enough to shoulder that burden alone.
The food was quite good. Â I had the Rigatoni on special and tasted the clam linguine. Â Both were very good! Â I didn't try it, but my companions liked the pizzas.
Very nice interior. Â Kind of unexpected in old town Roseville along the main drag on Vernon Street. Â Staff was very friendly. Â I would love to try it again.
Where's the Bread? and I quote "We are a little establishment that makes our own bread, not one of those large corporate places" "for $4.00 we can bring you out some" we passed and ordered the Garlic Woody = just Ok, Grammy's salad = small and simple with ice berg and a couple of thin red onions, dressing worked and did remind me of someones Grammy, did I mention it was small?. Marsala was good and the red potatoes complemented the sauce, Gemlli with spinach and sausage in a white wine sauce was different and could have used some fresh Parm not the sprinkle jar for pies. Sangria was good and could have used less ice not to water it down so fast and allow more in the glass. Shared a banana cream pie dish with a cookie crust could have been softer but the filling and sliced almonds added a nice touch = just OK
Dinner for 2 with tip $69.53 (and only one glass of sangria?) a little pricy but it seems like they are still working out the kinks, staff was friendly but as the place got busy there seem to be some confusion
Paying the bill was a little impersonal with the servers iPhone with a card reader and only options for tip was 18% 20% and 25%, and text me the receipt and no mint?
I would have went with 2 1/2 stars but the Place has only been open since November and the food did stand up to some well known places for freshness and did I mention they "Make there own bread" and for $4.00 we can bring some out!
I have mixed feelings about The Place. I want to like it a lot.
THE GOOD: The pizza is very delicious, especially the crust. The wine list is local (nice!). We had a bottle of the Short Bus Zinfandel which was boozy and strong. Live music in the evening. Nice atmosphere. Good place to take friends.
THE NOT AS GOOD: Overpriced. Stewed tomatoes on the pizza, meh. Had the "simple" salad, and it really was mostly a pile of iceberg, a whisper of cheese and not much else. Were we warned? Yes. But next time I'd save my $6 and eat a head of lettuce at home. We were caught in the middle of an awkward exchange between our server (who arrived late to our table) and the lady (another server?) who got there first. Never sort out your hierarchy issues in front of the patrons, it looks unprofessional.
Awesome place. Â Very friendly staff, food was awesome and very fresh and reminded me of my grandmother's Italian cooking from when I was a wee lad. Â Pastas were great (I recommend the Chicken Parmesan) and my wife's pizza was amazing. Mac and cheese were to die for.
If only I could remember the name of that Spring wheat beer I had. Â It was great.
We will be back.
Way over priced. 14.95 for a simple pasta dish at a Cafe? Both my dad and wife barely touched their two pasta dinners. The market salad for 7.95 had good garlic based dressing but it was small and uninspiring.
No bread on the table...
Fifty bucks for two pasta dishes, a side salad, some olives and a very small cup of marinara sauce (reheated in a MW).
Ok, giving The Place 4 stars because I am *confident* that they will work out the kinks and it will soon be absolutely awesome! Â Not sure what was in this location before, but they have turned it into a homey little italian restaurant! Â Upon walking in, I was very surprised to see a nice FULL bar--I'm liking this place already!!
The lady who approached us reluctantly told us that they were out of pizza dough and meatballs...so much for trying a pizza!! Â Well, we did arrive at 9pm on a Fri night, so I guess a new restaurant may not have their needs figured out...we decided to stay and try some pasta.
We each started with a cocktail--I got the herbaceous gimlet, Chris got the "wench." and Lisa got a sidecar. Â We were all very happy with our choices! Â Our server was very sweet and talkative, but she definitely needs a little more practice with serving. Â Ordering, timing, etc. were a little awkward throughout our visit. Â
There were only 3 pasta options (pasta with marinara, pasta with creamy pesto, and pasta with alfredo) on the menu, plus a mac and cheese in the appetizer section. The menu also had a special pasta, but she said that they were out of that as well. Â Well, there were three of us, so we each ordered one of the three pastas, as well as the bread with olive oil and balsamic to start. Â I hope that they will add some type of filled pasta and a lasagna to the menu!
The bread is freshly made and sooo yummy! Â Its crusty exterior and chewy interior is perfect with the EVOO and vinegar!
I must say, my alfredo was the best of the three pastas! Â One of the best alfredo pastas I've had in a long time! Â Perfect al dente pasta, not too saucy, great flavor. Â Chris' creamy pesto needed salt, but after that addition tasted good, and the marinara had a very rich tomato flavor but could have used a little something extra, like a little more garlic or maybe a touch of chili flakes.
Chris also ordered one of their layered shooters that looks like an italian flag, as they were out of the blue stuff for the american flag (seeing a theme here?)
Our server was not sure if they are doing happy hour, but I hope they will be! Â I guess they are doing brunch as well, which I would be interested in trying (I also still want to try the pizza!)
Last note: they use the square thing (portable ordering gadget), and our server was not sure how to split the bill on it...they figured it out, but it wasn't until after we had paid that we realized that we hadn't tipped! Â Luckily we had cash, but hopefully they will streamline this process a little bit, as most people aren't yet familiar with this system.
I'm always on the look out for a new italian place to eat. I LOVE ITALIAN FOOD! Pasta and pizza are staples in my life and I was so excited when I read the, very few, reviews for this little place that opened not so long ago.
My girlfriend and I LOVE wood fire pizzas and have ordered them at other places, so we were totally excited to see it actually in use and up and running in this place.
First thing you notice when you walk in, is how big this place is on the inside with such a tiny store front I almost missed it as I drove by. A very nice older lady sat us at the window and chatted to us a bit. She was soooo sweet! We sat for a minute admiring the piano in the corner, the great decor and the awesome smell of wood fire pizza coming from the kitchen.
Our waitress, who had to be the most adorable waitress ever, Denver, greeted us with menus and filled our water glasses. Unfortunately at 1pm, the only serve from the lunch menu, which was slim. The only offer about 5 kinds of pizza so we chose the all meat with small side salads and 2 cups of the most amazing coffee. Fresh cream and sugar provided.
Denver had told us that she could finish a whole pizza by herself, so we were not surprised when the tiny pizza was placed on our table. We sat and enjoyed the crisoy, but not burnt crust. It was FRESH HOME MADE DOUGH! People, you can't get better than that. The hostess stopped by our table to see how we were doing and to drop off a copy of the local newspaper where she exclaimed "see my son-in-law", on the front page. (Again, too cute!)
After we finished our meal, still kinda hungry, we decided to partake in their made to order canoli. OMFG. I'm not really a fan of them to begin with, but I would definitely order them again here.
Only 4 stars, but only because I think it could be better. The small pizza was $13.95! really? seriously? ok, it was good. but I think I'll order another one that's a bit cheaper next time. $3 a piece for canoli's and $3 a piece for coffee. $34 for lunch was kinda steep, but I think I'll come back for dinner and be able to order from the rest of the menu.
Walking into The Place, it's amazing how comforting the smell of a wood fire is. You know you are about to enjoy something delicious. Then you are greeted by the hostess who welcomes you back like you are a long lost friend. So slide on up to the bar, where the worlds best bartender Meredith awaits. From there, your path forks, leaving you with a couple of choices.
Option 1, grab a lunch menu, from there it's a choose your own adventure. I went with the Bianca Pizza. This was a very good choice. The garlic, onions, and cheese blended with an excellent pizza dough. My journey would have been complete if only I could have a beer at lunch.
Option 2, grab the cocktails menu, this is a darker adventure. The sort where you really aren't sure if the hero is going to win. But let's face it, with cocktails looking that good does it really matter?
