This is a wine bar. Â
It was my choice to have a cocktail, but they sounded awesome. Â I had the cucumber infused vodka cilantro one and it was good, creative for sure, but not great. Â Not sure what was missing actually. Â The wine selection was good. Â Expect to pay big city, as in NYC, prices here, which I was surprised by in a smaller town. Â
They have 2 menus. Lunch and dinner. Â The both looked good but I did not eat here. Â Tables around me, it's pretty crowded, got food and it looked good. Â Since plates were cleaned I think it was enjoyed. Â
The tables are very close together, and they seem small for more than two, maybe three people, yet I saw 4 at some. Â
The servers are very peasant here, that's for sure, but they seem a little distracted, harried, or simply overwhelmed, I'm not sure which. Â This is a place where people actually were shirts with collars (guys) and dresses (cute summer ones, but you get the idea) for the ladies. Â There were no flip flops in the place that I saw, and the visible tattoos were mostly reserved for the staff. Â In fact, now that I think about it, the clientele were all nicely dressed, one might say well healed, but the staff was a little casual. Â No biggie, but somewhat striking after the visit.
Sit outside in back. Â That's where the locals sit (I was told by locals anyway). Â
I'd come back here for sure, but would want to make sure I got a better cocktail for the price.
Good drink and bar tenders obviously know their craft. Â Problem is this place is quit large and staff is not experienced or managed well enough to provide even mediocre service. Â This was Monday night a although bustling not slammed. Â In two hours we got one round of drinks. Â After total frustration requested close out and ended up having to stand at station get tab so we could pay. Â Multiple passes, eye contact, verbal requests and after all that got "Oh sorry boss, I got caught up talking wine.". Â The worst kind of cocktail waitresses is one that picks favorites, dismissive to others, and at the end of the day who goes out to be treated like that. Â I would rate lower but the product was tasty even if the price was high and the service poor.
Review Source:Plonked yet? Give it a shot. I am giving it another chance. So far so good. I ordered a drink and the bartender corrected my pronunciation of Glenmorangie. Â I was wrong to say Glen-more-rang-ee. But he also pronounced it wrong saying glen-mor-anj. Like it was French. It's actually glen-MOR-anjee. Â Either way if your smarter at spirits than the customer your not. Becuase they are still a customer. Disagreeing with their opinion is a bad idea. It's their opinion. Giving them the facts when they ask is okay if they ask.
Waiting on the food.
Bartender redeemed himself by going to check up on the chicken I ordered. It's taking a while. But such is the nature of chicken. It takes longer than a thin steak. About as long as a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch steak.
Chicken came out. Adobo chicken with corn salsa and some sort of bean mixture. The chicken was very good. Nice presentation as well. The corn salsa was good. But the beans were a bit bland. Ok very bland. And a bit crusted on the top like I got the ones that form the crust at the top after being under a heat lamp. Overall the food was 3.5 stars out of 5.
The service by the bartender went from 2.5 stars to 4. He kicked onto high gear.
The atmosphere is always nice. 4 stars out of 5.
Doing better. The price is 2 stars out of 5. Too expensive guys. 15 to 20% less would be perfect.
I came to Plonk for a mid-afternoon glass of wine and an appetizer with my mother-in-law, and for what my husband describes as a "hipster bar" I liked it.
It was pretty empty when we were there though I imagine this is not always the case. We were seated at a high top table behind the bar, and I sat looking out toward the bar.
This is a pretty cool space and location. It's right in the middle of Main Street, which if you're unfamiliar with Bozeman is where all the action happens. It has a lot of old features which I love, but it is also renovated so it's a usable, 21st C kind of place.
The food was good, and it would be nice to come back on a busier night.
Here's why you should go to Plonk: Wine, appetizers and atmosphere- and if you feel like classing it up.
Delicious wine and great selection at all price points. I'm always impressed with what I order. My friends all love their cocktails, too.
The food is wonderful, I ordered the bison empanada and lamb quesadilla on separate occasions and they were delicious and filling. My friend loves the pear salad.
And the atmosphere- Plonk is a relief in Montana. You feel like you've stepped into a little trendy urban hideaway, in a far away city. For a moment, you are not in one of most rural states in the U.S. where cowboy boots are considered dress shoes.
Great little spot that I love to visit.
I absolutely love this place! Â It's such a cool bar to hang out in. Â It's a pretty big place and there are many options of where to sit. Â The patio, high top tables, the bar, or couches in the back. Â
I haven't eaten here other than the Cheese Plates and they are awesome. Â Very inexpensive but high on quality and quantity. Â 6 cheeses for $13 is unheard where we live. Â The chef plate is spot on with a nice mix different cheeses. Â They actually give you a fair amount of bread, not just a few slices, like other places do. Â
Service has always been great here and the bartenders seems to know how to mix a cocktail. Â I tend to drink beer but my wife's mixed drinks have always been pretty great!
This wine bar could be seamlessly set down in a trendy area of any Metropolis.  A bit of 'city  life' out in Bozeman.
I had one of their fancy cocktails- with cherries crushed (muddled) in the glass and everything ($10). Â My date had their featured wine selection ($8/glass). Â We also split one of the deserts- a cherry cobbler-like item with pistachio nuts topped with cardamon ice cream. Â It was pretty epic. Â I really liked it (but didn't LOVE it, which I was a bit surprised by.) Â I wish I could tell you what it was missing, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Brittany, our server, was lovely. Â We felt very well taken care of, even though the place was packed!
My date wasn't thrilled with the featured wine (a red blend from Washington)- but not enough to send it back, it just wasn't exactly what he'd been after.
I'll definitely make a point to come here anytime I'm in Bozeman.
Oh Plonk...you are so fabulous. I will always, always come to Plonk when in Bozeman (and I hope to be back in Bozeman often!!)
Plonk is one of the only places in Bozeman that doesn't have the "Montana-style" dining feel to it. It's classy, upscale, and really just the best place on Main Street.
The drinks are so fabulous and the staff is great. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is wonderful. It's a good place to get a little bit dressed up and go for a date or out with a couple friends.
Wonderful bar when you first enter the door and suchhhhh a lovely patio out back. Clean restrooms. Clean restaurant. Great, great place!!
Ãœber cool, hip restaurant (with a great bar) that could be located in any hip city in the nation. No surprisingly, it's in Bozeman, MT! This place is perfect if you are wanting to sit at a great bar, while imbibing some terrific vino. Â They also have great cocktails and good stuff to nosh on. I found the food to be ok but not the kind of place you want to go to if you are looking for a culinary experience. This is a great place for awesome wine, good cheese, strong cocktails and people watching. I had a great time at the bar and drank some beautiful wine.
Review Source:Definitely not the type of place I thought I'd find in Bozeman MT. This place was super cute, they had the best selection of mixed drinks, most for about $8. Mine had basil in it, and was AMAZING! The service on this particular Friday night was a bit slow, but our waitress was super friendly, especially since this was the 3rd stop in our impromptu "crawl".
I would definitely recommend checking this place out, would be a great date night stop or place to meet up with girlfriends.
This place has a very unique atmosphere for Bozeman and a great wine selection and unique cocktails. The owner/manager is very passionate about his restaurant, it's always nice to know your business is appreciated! Oh and it's summer time and they have the best patio in town out back!
Review Source:What makes this place great are the great prices, especially their wine prices. Â Usually, when you go to a restaurant/bar, you should expect to pay at least double for a bottle of wine as compared to buying it retail. Â This place offers a flat corkage fee (under $10). Â Their prices are at retail, which makes for plenty of righteous nights at this upscale hipster hangout.
Their food is very creative and executed quite well. Â Very wine-friendly food selections.
The vibe gets amplified tremendously when they host guest DJs. Â You forget that you are in Montana. Â This place could easily make it in a big city.
Wait service is hit or miss. Â If you are looking for perfect service, you probably won't find it here. Â Don't expect a sommelier to recommend anything. Â You're kinda on your own on this one. Â Nevertheless, they offer a very expansive selection of fine wines here. Â Overall, the service here is lackluster. Â Plan on getting a bottle and if your food arrives, you should be golden in terms of not needing any assistance.
Amazing cocktail list! Cucumber Cilantro Gimlet is delicious, and their Mojitos set the bar. We enjoyed sipping our cocktails out on the cute back patio. The food was very good with some interesting experimental flavors. Â We ordered coffee with dessert and were brought a French press! Â I would definitely come back (several cocktails on list left to try!!!).
Review Source:While it might not be the friendliest place in town, the servers at Plonk do take care of you - including good suggestions for the indecisive - Â and the cocktail list is fabulous. Â The atmosphere was pretentious early on but seems to have mellowed out more recently. Â I love heading there for girls' night or date night... nice seating for chatting and the food is great (the stuffed peppers are especially tasty). Â Definitely more refined than most of the bars in this college town - a good choice for those of us who are more than a few years out of college.
Review Source:One of my favorite places in Bozeman. Food is great, cocktails and wine selection are even better. Love the loungey, sexy, atmosphere. Wonderful service as well. Plonk and the Ale Works were always my choices for date night, just depended on the mood we were in, as they are different atmospheres.
Review Source:I love Plonk! The atmosphere is modern, cool and hip, but not snobby. The food and drinks are inventive and yummy - fresh, local and organic, too. And the live music is lots of fun!
We've been in several times in the last few months and have had very good food and service each time we've visited. One of my favorite dishes is the Quinoa Stuffed Pepper - it's drool worthy! I think it tastes like a really fresh and tasty enchilada but without the greasy cheese and sauce. I've also had stellar steak and veal at Plonk with fantastic sides and sauces.
Order the Plonk Cosmo so you can munch on the candied ginger while you catch-up with your friends and listen to some great live music.
Walking in to the restaurant I was pretty impressed. Atmosphere was cool, the style was modern, and the servers were hot.
The menu on the clipboard was an awesome idea and the drinks that were on the bar menu are even better. There were all kinds of innovative cocktails and wines to fit everyone's taste.
Unfortunately, the food does not match the vibe or caliber of the drinks. The actual items on the menu sounded delicious..,,but were cooked to order mediocre at best. My pappardelle was meh, the pho was meh, the mozzarella/tomato salad was good and the strawberry shortcake dessert was bleh.
I could see this place as a really fun spot to hang out with friends, have drinks and snack on appetizers. It is too bad that the main meals did not make this restaurant a stellar experience.
Plonk has the best nightlife in Bozeman. The selection and quality of drinks is unsurpassed, the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable too. The food is pretty good with the cheese board in particular being to die for. The atmosphere is what really does it for me though. It feels hip, trendy, modern and classy without being pretentious. Bring your wallet though, this place is priced like a nice big city bar. Drinks are typically $8-$15 each.
Review Source:We went to Plonk on the 20th of July 2010. We were a large group of 8 people. Service was good and quick. The waitress friendly and knowledgeable. All the other guests in my group enjoyed their food.
I had one of the night's special: "escolar on a bed of cilantro jasmine rice, with a fava bean puree..." Sounded great. Right?
Well...my dish unfortunately was quite awful.
The good thing is, the fish was cooked right. Flaky and tender. The rice was a joke. It was a gelatinous lump on the plate. It had been overcooked to the point of coagulation. I have never seen anything so bad. The cilantro if any was invisible. The flavor non-existent. The mouth-feel really bad. I have been cooking rice for over 20 years so I know my rice.
The fish. Though it had been cooked well, the salt on the fish seemed to have been sprinkled on using a salt grinder. It was lumpy came forth in surprising bursts of saltiness. As a result it ended up tasting too salty. Â
The plate was garnished with spinach that was also overcooked and stringy.
The fava bean puree was OK. Artistically spread out in semicircles around the main ingredient.
Overall, quite a terrible experience for something that sounded so good in its description. For the price I expected better. I did not return the dish as I was with a group of people I had met for the first time, and I did not want to ruin their evening.
The reason I would not go back there is because there was NO reason for the dish to end up that bad! It was a simple enough preparation that the chef should have been able to do blindfolded. Who is to know which dish might go bad next? Â I might get lucky or I might not. Not worth the risk.
Hit up Plonk for a couple of cocktails on a Wednesday night. Definitely a fun place. Our bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and seemed to know everyone who came into the place. I had a Midnight Manhattan (dark cherry flavored, a nice twist on my standard cocktail) and a Maker's Ginger (just what it sounds like; delicious). Dug the pinup girl tiles in the men's room. Nice counterpoint to the standard Bozeman bar. But, yo, seriously pricey. I don't usually pay two figures for cocktails in the big city, so it's quite a shocker here. Still, enjoyed the Plonk and would go again.
Review Source:My wife and I visited Plonk every day at varying times of the day for a week and love it! Everything from fresh and unique salads to Venison medallions with perfectly carmelized root veggies located in an upscale yet funky downtown environ. This place is a gem on Main Street.
I love Montana but there is only so much white gravy and Bison burger a city-slicker can handle. Plonk is the answer. Start with Duck confit spring rolls, they're  a must!
I agree with previous reviews that the staff lacks particular knowledge about fine wine and food, but lets put it into context: its Main Street Bozeman not Manhattan (although it could be)!
This should not discourage a true foodie who knows how to create their own experience. Besides one can always ask for a manager if you feel the menu and it's offerings daunting. Â
Michael assisted us in selecting a perfect pairing. The wine list is extensive...have fun, we did...and thought the prices were quite fair.
Wine not your thing!?
No problem the signature cocktails at Plonk are World Class.
Drinks with integrity, premium ingredients, and a heavy enough pour to satisfy. Order at the bar or take a seat in an oversized lounger and listen to some vinyl of your own or fresh tracks from Plonks selector.
Will we be back to Plonk? "You Bet!"
Plonk is overpriced and bland. I've been there more than a handful of times and every time they are out of at least two of the things I wanted to order. Their cocktails are as expensive as in a city and not half as good. The waitstaff doesn't really know the menu or what's available at the bar. They either need to lower their prices or figure out how to make their offerings better.
Also, if you don't have the special flight of the week or any cheeses, why not just take it off your menu? (The menus are little pages on a clipboard...it's not that hard)
We parked our car in downtown Bozeman and just started walking along Main Street, looking for a good dinner spot, when we stumbled upon Plonk. Â We were drawn in by the groups of people sitting on the street patio, checked out the menu and decided to stop in. Â In addition to the patio seating out front, there is a separate patio area out back. Â The restaurant is sectioned into a "bar" area with seating along the bar and high bar tables. Â There are "regular" dining tables on both ends of the restaurant near the front and back entrances (with a long bench seat that runs the length of the back seating area). Â There are also comfortable couches and oversized seats with coffee tables for patrons who choose to lounge for the evening.
Our waitress was great - she had a strong knowledge of wines that they had available, was able to make recommendation. Â The food was fantastic - the small plates were reasonably sized for sharing. Â I ordered an Arnold Palmer that came in its own cantor. Â The wait time was pretty from the time that we ordered to the time food was served. Â The prices were reasonable - perhaps I've been living in the city too long. Â We ordered almost everything available on the dining menu and enjoyed it thoroughly. Â We regret not being able to come back again this trip, but would have loved to taste some of the entrees that they offer.
I met with some friends for a little business and social gathering and upon my arrival I was quite impressed by the ambiance I found here. Now this is a wine and restaurant bar in Montana folks where SUV's, Â casual clothes and your monster mountain boots are worn on a daily basis (Yes even in the summer) So...It was nice for a city gal like myself to see girls dressed up in slinky dresses, high heels and some of the men in casual/smart attire. (Sans cowboy and baseball hats) Visualize a yuppie place and this is it, without the attitude.
The building is long and has exposed brick inside. They have artwork throughout, a tin ceiling, their lighting is vintage and came from an old railway station I do believe. Very cool. Even the bathrooms are decorated nicely. My guy friends told me to check out their bathroom because they have vintage pin up girls tile in theirs. The girls bathroom on the other hand was girlie and nice. (Unfortunately)
The outside patio has used old metal containers and machinery from farmlands. They have planted some beautiful plants to make it feel even more unique. Nice area to sit outside, quaint.
I decided to go with their wine list because after all this is a wine bar. It's hard for me not to order a beer in Montana because their micro brews are absolutely fantastic. BTW their beer selection is reasonable if you do not want to drink with your pinky finger out. :O) I thought their food menu would be difficult for a veggie like myself, after all I am in the meat is not murder land, but I have to say their menu was awesome. The appetizers are great and their dinner menu is not that huge but just the right size for a wine bar. Â If you want a full dinner then this place is not for you. Nice size portions for the place.
The DJ played some jammin' music, but unfortunately their sound system is painful. It was played loud because of the size of this place but because of that, everyone was shouting at one another and at the end of the night we were all hoarse. They seriously need to cushion the sound here it bounces off the walls, get some subwoofers or something please!
It is pricey, but you get what you pay for. We all averaged $60.00 each and we did not drink a huge amount. The food was the main expense, but I cannot grumble because it was all good. I forgot to mention the desserts. They must be awesome because I had three of them! So much to choose from I had to do it.
I will return here in the day and hope it is quieter to converse with people. But if I am feeling a little anti social I will arrange to meet them here in the PM, so I can't hear a damn thing they are saying. Sssshhhh! Don't tell!
This wine bar has a beautiful set up...outside space on Main Street and a garden patio in the back, plus lots of different places to sit inside, varying from lounging couches and bar stools. Â The bar is beautiful, and their cocktails, which I wish I had tried, looked delicious. Â
Instead, however, I had their only flight available, which featured Grenache wines. Â Maybe I just don't like grenache very much, but these wines struck me as mediocre, although they did improve over time. Â I was disappointed.
I was also hugely disappointed with the waitress, who spent most of the time chatting with a friend who was at the bar, hadn't even tried the Grenache flight to give a recommendation (or warning), and couldn't recommend a fruity, red wine. Â "Ummmm, actually I don't really know....I know the whites okay....".
Bottomline: a beautiful and popular place, but I'd stick with the cocktails and not expect much for service.
