Been here several times and the food is consistently fantastic. Cocktails are great, too. The upstairs outdoor patio is a hidden gem in Missoula. We recently attended a winemaker's dinner and had an incredible experience. We got to meet Chef and the winemaker and the food and wine were incredible, as is the wine cellar downstairs. Thos is definitely a hot, new spot and it's great to have something like this in Missoula.
Review Source:I've actually been to Plonk four times for drinks and food. I'm a fan of the bar; the jury is still out on the food. I've not ventured much beyond salads, crab cake, spring roll and a few cheese selections.  While some Yelpers opine that the prices are high and portions small, I would suggest the prices are in line with the quality of the ingredients and offerings.  The staff is working hard on learning the extensive menu that, for cheese alone, has 16 plus selections -- a lot of items to understand, to be able to properly describe flavors, textures, origins, etc.  Presentation is generally well executed, too.  The kitchen seems inflexible on changes to the menu items.  For instance, I was not able to add any protein item to my  spinach salad.  A skewer of chicken or shrimp would have been a nice option to make it a complete meal.
I enjoy the atmosphere and the seating options, both indoor, outdoor and upstairs on the deck. Â There is a separate wine cellar room available for private parties up to 16 people as well. Â The staff are very friendly and offer helpful suggestions when ordering if asked. Â Plonk is a great addition to the Missoula bar and restaurant scene.
My wife and I finally got a date night saturday may 25 2013 and we spent it at Plonk, and it was definitely worth it!! We were greeted immediately and were able to sit in the front of the restaurant where the front windows were wide open and the amazing montana air was blowing through. Â We started out with an espresso martini and a pink panther martini and wow!!!! Â The best infusions I have ever tried. Â Our waitress was super professional and on point all through our time here. For appetizers we had the tequila lime crab cake and seared prawns both of which just melted in your mouth. My wife isn't a huge fan of avocado but she absolutely loved how all the ingredients just set her taste buds off! Â We then ordered a beef tenderloin and the salmon roulade which by the way is absolutely fresh!!! As a matter a fact it was brought to our attention that the salmon was never frozen and just the day before was being caught in Alaska and flown to the plonk here In missoula. Â When we recieved our entree the beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection a perfect mediun rare and when slicing through it it just fell apart and it was extraordinary in taste and the mash potatoes were to die for. Our slamon was cooked to perfection as well as you put your fork into it it just open right up and the asparagus and polenta were excellent combination with it. Â For the food and drinks that are served in this restaurant plus atmosphere and service the price is very reasonable if you have not given plonk a try it is a definite MUST.!!!!
Review Source:Even though they don't like to admit it, Bozeman and Missoula have a lot in common. Both have excellent public universities, and both are located in beautiful Rocky Mountain terrain. Sure, Missoula trends to the liberal, Pacific NW while Bozeman resembles Aspen, but these are more stereotypes than anything else. Both are Montana through and through. And both now have a Plonk wine bar as part of their nightlife offerings.
Wine bars are not for everybody, and Missoula has its share of dives, student bars, and local microbreweries, so that's not really an issue. Plonk adds an extra element into the mix, with good food and excellent by-the-glass offerings. It's a little exotic, but it's Missoula we're talking about, not Polson, after all. We can handle exotic.
I liked the vibe here, which was bustling even on a Tuesday night. The wines were very good, the seating options varied, and the service was polite, prompt, and professional. It takes all kinds to make an urban landscape really shine, and Missoula is definitely a place where hip culture and cowboy attitudes can mix. No, it's not Bozeman, and thank goodness for that. But it can handle a wine bar or two without losing its soul. Plonk seems to fill a niche, and that's not a bad thing, at all.
I wanted a nice night out with unique and tasty food, a good selection of wine, and an upscale but chill atmosphere. Â My first choice was the Red Bird, but since they aren't open on SUNDAY, we decided to give Plonk a try. Â It was WELL worth it!
We had a large array of the appetizers: Their salad with beets and fresh smoked mozzarella, the chef's choice cheese tray, scallops with foie gras, crab cakes, buffalo empanada, flourless chocolate torte, tiramisu, and profiteroles. Â Not to mention Malbec, Cabernet, Aged Port...
Everything was quite good, a little light on the seasoning for the crab cakes but well balanced flavors, service was attentive and very friendly, atmosphere was relaxed but sophisticated.
My only complaint would be that the profiteroles were dry, chewy and overcooked, (and I did let them know kindly) though the frozen cream filling had wonderful flavor. Â
Our bill was a little steep, but that was more due to having to try a huge portion of the menu rather than it being overpriced. Â
I would definitely go back and try more things.
***WARNING*** If you like standing around and hovering like a vulture waiting to swoop in for the kill on a seat this is your place. Â It's first come first serve. Â Now with that being said, the atmosphere was bar setting very noisy so be ready to talk very loud. Staff was friendly but busy, don't try to strike up a conversation, but there were some good points.
The drinks and food were excellent they arrived faster than expected with the over crowded placed. Priced at $15 to $35 per plate drink comparable to other bars. Our waitress was awesome and very knowledgeable of the menu.
I will go again but during the week and hope it's not as crowded.
