Quick update on this bar... to my surprise, they now serve food 7 days a week from 6-11. It used to just be Wed - Fri from 4-8.

Instead of the usual taquitos that I normally order, I decided to venture out and try the club sandwich the last time i was there. I was expecting a small rinky-dink little sandwich, but this thing was stacked high. I couldnt finish it... had to take it home in a doggy box !! And it was pretty damn good !!! I'll be ordering that again soon!

Awesome place for cheap drinks and a great time! All types of people, but all really friendly. Wide selection of music with the jukebox. Oh, and all pitchers are only $10-$11! New cook, Jimmy, really gets down in the kitchen!

I've driven by this place numerous times and didn't stop because it looked seedy.  Luckily, I stopped in tonight. This is a jewel of a dive. The bartenders are really nice, drinks are solid, charge of minimum of $10, good townie crowd, overall good time.
If you like dives, you'll love this place.
They have a parking lot in the back, so no need to park on Saticoy unless it's full.  The bouncer hangs out by the back door, so it seems that would keep away most petty theft in the parking lot.

6/9/13-Went again, and it's still a great little local bar!  The bartenders are very nice and attentive.  Once again a mix of young and old...including a 90 year old sweet lady at the end of the bar!
No bouncer this time, but it wasn't busy enough to need one.  Parking lot still felt safe, although I wouldn't suggest a woman walking to her car alone at night, ever...anywhere.

5 Star Dive Bar!  2 pool tables, parking lot in the back, smoking out back, jukebox & bathrooms are usually clean.

Good service - Cheryl, Shannon & Jen...SUPER Friendly bartenders! They usually work nights & a few day shifts.

New Owners - Very down to earth people & fair to their customers - Good Pours & Great prices.

Crowd - Definitely a bar for the locals, young & old but still very friendly to new faces.

Kitchen - Although i am skeptical about eating at dive bars, the food ere is really good and the kitchen has an open window so you can always see the chef.

Pool league nights get pretty busy & Friday nights are always packed. Music selections vary from old country to hip hop, rock & electronica.

Cash & CC w/a $10 minimum.  ATM directly across the street

I ended up here on accident one day. I walked in and there was country music playing, Fox news on the TV and everyone inside was white, male and over 50. We got a couple stares and I was a little wary at first but my friend and I decided to give it a try. The bartender was nice enough, it wasn't to loud to have a conversation and the drinks were super cheap. If I ever find myself in the Valley again, I just might go back. The drink prices are unbeatble.

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Pogo's is the sun in that it is a haven of trash that only the San Fernando Valley can provide which is somehow delightful in its own bizarro-Shakespearean way.

What can I truly say about Pogo's that hasn't already been said? It was my coming of age bar. I could say a lot of things about it that some might consider "unsavory" (like the fact I was drinking here before I was even 21), but Pogo's has gone through several revampings that no longer make it the bar it once was in my not-so-far-off youth.

For example, did you know it's not a cash only bar anymore? Well, now you do! Did you also know that they've installed brand spanking new big screen TV's instead of the tiny cubical ones that are not unfamiliar to a scene straight out of Cheers? And that the second you walk in, you will be chased around the bar by a new guard until you show your ID? That's probably the saddest new fact of them all.

The reason I give it 5 stars is for the nostalgia factor, really. Do all these new improvements make Pogo's a better bar? Probably not, but it certainly makes it all the more conventional.

The prices in drinks have gone up a dollar or two, but it's still without a doubt the cheapest bar in the Valley. A few bartenders have gone by the wayside (one fired, one on maternity leave) so there are a lot of new faces. Back in the day, the alcohol to mixed-drink-of-choice ratio used to be 10:2, now it's probably a good half and half. Beers are still as cheap as ever, the crowd just as eclectic as always. From anywhere to disgruntled, old white supremacists sitting in the far off, left side of the bar, to super hip chicano youth, to just regular ole folks in their mid-20's, it's definitely unpretentious, but I think the new management is slowly trying to do away with that tone. Enjoy it while you can.

    hands down, best bar ever.

CASH ONLY, NO ATM, GO PREPARED!

oh yea, they also sell chips there, mmm.

fuck all those hollywood type bars with bebe hoes.

older crowd, but I'm not complaining. It's kind of small, so if you sit near the pool tables, be prepared to get asked to move.

bartenders are awesome, especially lauren and jenny.

    CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP drinks.

$6 AMFs (and they actually fill that shit up with lots of alcohol)
    4.50 1/2 pitchers $9 for full ones.

they also have a jukebox with a huge selection of music.
The girls bathroom definitely needs a new mirror, but hey I'm not gonna hate...

I go to drink, not to look at myself in the restroom ;o

Just so everyone knows, the Yelp Map location for this bar is WRONG!  Just in case you find yourself wandering around that corner of Saticoy & Woodley! It's just a little further down on Saticoy (heading west from Hayvenhurst, NOT Woodley), at Louise.

In any case, after my friend and I found this place, man-oh-man... it's a Dive Bar Champion, edging just on the border of a little too divey!  Cash bar, kind of a biker/rocker/almost-redneck vibe.  BUT it was fun.  Bartender was okay, she seemed a little distracted and I guess they may not be used to new folks frequenting the place.  She got my order wrong, but it was a good drink anyway.

Drinks are cheeeeeeeeeap!  So if you have a DD or a taxi lined up, then by all means, do you partying here.

If you are looking for anything classy this is definitely not the place to go buuuut....if you want some damn good drinks and to have some good ol' fashioned fun with your friends whether it be a tuesday or a saturday night it is always fun here!

Not a huge fan of the girl that helps clean up at the end up the night. She does laps around the place picking up empty drinks which is totally fine but not when i'm still sitting there with the straw in my mouth and she keeps asking if i'm done!!! Bartenders are always sweet and make great drinks though!!!

i live about a block away and i was soooo happy the first 4 times i came to this place!  i prefer gay bars, but i don't like driving, so this worked out just fine...  ive only been in on Friday nights...  the people are nice...  its a very diverse crowd young and older...  and the beer is cheap!  8 bucks for a pitcher! jukebox music is great...  BUT, heres what happened on my last visit...  my friend and i arrived...  its crowded...  we order a pitcher of beer and squeeze ourselves into a corner to drink our beer...  minding our own business, talking amongst ourselves, when this ghetto girl in atrocious heals asked if we had moved her pitcher...  we said no... and then she started getting loud and saying that we had taken over her area...  it was the only empty spot in the place...  i tried to ignore the ghetto girl with halitosis breath, but then she started calling my friend a whore and rude...  i couldn't believe this ghetto girl with a bad haircut would be so mean for no reason...  my friend is a fighter and i know she really wanted to punch her in the face, but i apologized to the ghetto girl with really fat ankles and i thought that would be the end...  no, then the ghetto girl who really needed to wax her upper lip started talking loudly to her friend about how my friend was old...  we finished our pitcher and walked outside...  the ghetto girl in a dress that she obviously got off the clearance rack at forever 21 followed us and sloppily fell onto some guys lap....  and still was talking about us!  what a damper this put on our night!  we ended up walking home within an hour. i might be back though...  id never seen this ghetto girl with pores the size of dimes before and i honestly hope i don't see her again.  i really liked this place before that!

Only good thing about this bar is the super cheap beer and the .50 cent pool table games. If that's enough to get you in the door, more power to ya.

That's all I really have to say about that.

Mkay, so I first came here for a friend's little birthday get together. Decent size. Has billards and enough seating areas. They have a medium sized pitchers for $4.50 and a large for $9.00. Pretty damn good in my book. There's a lady that casually drops in and sells food :)!!! The juke box has a good selection of groovies. Not gunna lie, sometimes they have some depressing ass shit playing. Seriously, is that the mood you're in ? Anyway, only been here like 5 times. Never had a bad experience.

Yeah, the crowd is a bit rough but that's the valley for ya. Just gotta mind ya biznessss and get drunk with the homies. Tons of creepers/lurkers here, but shit, name a place where there isn't?!

I was a little taken aback when I saw some grannys kicking it, getting drunk at the bar, but it was actually pretty cool. G-mas gotta get drunk too y'know.

Like the other reviewers stated, pretty good beer on tap for CHEAP. Pretty much one of the only reasons I'd keep coming back.

The only downside to this spot is that I run into too many people from high school and I'm not tryna see those assholes anymore. 4 years was enough.

    People I know from highschool.
Drunk chicks makin' out with other drunk chicks.
    Creepers.
And some good friends (if you tag along with them.)

Cheap semi good beer. Available in 3 different sizes.
just DO NOT bring them outside.

Hopefully Ill see you sometime soon. For another night of lolz.

Oh Pogos....... what can you say? Is it true that there are creepy old men with missing teeth, hammered off their asses everywhere you look? Yes. That is what adds to the charm of this place hahaha. Cheap drinks. bottom line. I wish everyone would write terrible reviews about this place so I could have it all to myself. I have been coming here for a while now and it literally feels like "cheers" when I walk in the door. Everybody knows my  name and I know theirs. The old men have some crazy stories sometimes, so hear them out lol. $9 pitchers of Samuel Adams, plus there is a smoke shop right next door, and a tattoo shop on the other side. what more could you ask for?

Pogos is the classic true dive bar not the upgraded posh pretendo version of one. I enjoy both types of places. The place is what it is and is good at being just that. So people who complain about it are people who are expecting something more.

Its true what other yelpers have said about it being depressing and there are many alcoholics, possibly mentally ill. There are also trashy people that come from other parts of the valley because the drinks are so cheap. To some of those people. This is going out to a real fine place to spend like a baller. Pogos is like a magnet attracting the dregs of the San Fernando Valley. The ones that dont fit in neither here nor there. I enjoy being around these types of people every once in a great while. Especially if I am down about something. Because next to them I feel great. I realize how great my life is, has been, and will continue to be. LMAO. Seriously though!

I have had some really good times spending more than four times less than what I usually spend. I put 5 dollars in the jukebox and buy everybody drinks when I go and thats how I get started.

    YEA! LONG LIVE POGOS!

    I love this place!
It may not be the classiest, but if your looking for a cheap drink and good tunes then this is the place.

A lot of people on here complain about the atmosphere and the people that go there, but it is what you make it.

I usually go with a group of friends and every time we've gone, we've all had a good time.

I'm not sure how much pitchers are, but I believe they are no more than 10 bucks and that's not bad. I usually get vodka tonics and they're only like 3 dollars. You can't beat that!

I only wish this place was bigger.

If your looking for a 5 star lounge your not gonna find it here, but what you will find is a good time!

This was stop number three of my Saturday night of explorative drinking (I'm new to the valley).

First off, the drinks are super cheap but cash only. My Jameson only cost $4 (you believe that ?!?!) but I ended up having to go across the street to get cash out of the atm ($2 fee, bummer).

The place was super quiet but the people there were fairly nice. Reading other yelpers reviews, I was pretty much ready to be stabbed just walking into the place and I was almost disconcerted with how pleasant it all was.

I ended up talking with the super hot chick serving my drink and it seems that this place is pretty much another hit-or-miss on Saturdays. My excuse is that Coachella is stealing the patrons on this particular night...

Thursday and Fridays are the nights to hit this place up and yes that glorious spirit is still in me as I write this review!

    dive bar???

I wish, Pogo's goes well beyond the status of dive bar and is more like a four-walled death vessel. People, old and young, go there to slowly die from cirrhosis, acute liver failure, or fights. I imagine that if conservative zealot's fear of socialized healthcare one day led to death panels, those death panels would seriously be called Pogo's.

The beer is cheap, the well-drinks are cheap, the pool games are cheap.

The crowd is just depressing though. It's a weird juxtaposition of infantile alcoholism and senior alcoholism. I looked around at the veteran, possibly Vietnam vets, drinkers and kept thinking if that would one day be me. That is my point, no where else would one think of shit like this except Pogo's. Normal dives are so full of life that you typically don't wonder about people around you and if you do it's for "other" reasons. Common questions that ran through my mind were "Hmmm... I wonder when that dude got outta prison?" or "How long has that guy been here, since noon? [being 10:00 p.m.]."

I always come with friends, they always end up in some kinda fight or whatever, and I always wonder why they love that place.

Another yelper wrote something about going there if you live around it  and HAVE to drink. I agree. My buddies live around the area and HAVE to drink so they go to Pogo's. I LIKE to drink but don't live around the area so I try and avoid Pogo's as much as possible.

One guy said to me when I told him I was going to Pogo's, "That's where people go to die."

    Go figure.

Pogos is cool. Might be a bit of ultraviolence, but what do you expect? I've never had any problems there....Yeppers, an old person bar. They seem to congregate near the north end of the bar. Pool tables are a little to close to the tables, which im sure is a major cause of the ole' fisticuffs. Whatever. Tattoo shop next door. Cool bike shop also....Jukebox is ok. When i was in there i played an old disco StarWars song and laughed when i dude was like...WHO PLAYED THIS? I told him that i did and we both laughed. Bartender is smokin hot. Cool spot. Cheap drinks. Wasnt really too afraid of getting beat up, after all, i did have a knife in my back pocket...................

I do not like this place. Yes, the drinks are cheap, yes, the people are unpretentious, yes, there's a sort of relaxed atmosphere and some of the bartenders are really cool. But Pogo's is not a dive in the good way so much as a place where the south eastern Valley's finest (read: trashiest) often assemble to get shitfaced drunk. There was a local bum hanging around outside both nights I was there last month. There was also a twacked out scary tweeker lady roaming around.

The first night, some gross older man was rubbing my back. The next night, his girlfriend was (drunk and) all upset because he had called her and told her he had some woman coming over. I don't know. My friend got involved in the conversation. I sat in a dirty plastic chair wanting to leave, wishing we could go somewhere, anywhere else...a paisa bar in Pacoima? Bring it on. I couldn't feel any more uncomfortable than I did at Pogo's at that moment--or any more bored.

The Pogo's plus: they have some decent beers on tap, and, as I said before, they're inexpensive. Try the Strawberry Cheesecake shot; it's delicious (also cheap). There's the occasional cute young guy in there, too, but they're usually with their girlfriends--and you can usually get the chisme on them from a regular (for instance, my friend, who tells me the dirt on anyone our age who she knows; it generally effectively makes them less attractive right quick).

So, Pogo's in a nutshell: Middle aged alcoholics. 20-something alcoholics. Tweekers. White trash. "Redneck Woman" on the jukebox. Lotsa penis music. Dirty old men.

If you HAVE to have a drink close to home, it's okay, I guess. But I'd rather drive to LA and go to somewhere that's actually, you know, cool. Pogo's makes me kind of sad.

I stumbled upon the gem that is Pogo's on a trip to visit some friends.

I can see how the crowd could be rough if you're a typical douche looking for a fight or a bitchy broad looking for some fancy frou frou drink but as long as you can appreciate beer or slam down any drink ending in "bomb," you'll be A-OK.

It seemed like a typical dive bar but after a lot of pitchers of fat tire and hefeweizen (and a sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody), I ended up having a damn good time

pretty cool little dive bar. if you can hang. we went on a thursday night and it was like pool league night. two pool tables with hard core pool players. old old old men drinking. cool bartender. really nice and sweet. drinks are cheap but cash only. they have these nasty ass office type carpet chairs outside that i dont think i could ever be drunk enough to sit on. they have an electronic jukebox with pretty good songs. i'd say a pretty wide range of music from ABBA to usher. hahah all of a sudden the songs stop playing and it seems to just be quiet so my buddy goes up and puts in some songs. whats the first song that comes up? billy joel piano man. everyone looks around all of sudden like WTF?! ahahahahahah

im not really into dive bars so much. but this ones okay and my guy friends really like it. its one of those old dirty old school pubs.

My NUMBER 1 favorite bar of all times. Everyone elses reveiws are hilarious cuz it's so true....
I first came to this place when I was visiting my friend who is the owner of Needle Pushers (a tattoo shop). Right next door is this crappy looking bar but I decided to go with the 'bros'. Honestly, I can't tell you what I thought of that place that night because I was waaaaayyyyyy totally plastered from earlier that day.
Anyway, that's the spot I keep going back to. I try to bring all my friends there but only a few survive. It's been called a 'dirty white-trash scary' bar. I guess it is but that's what makes it more fun. On certain nights, there's a billiard league that have their games and.... *OMG, I forgot his name...... well, this guy, cooks up an amazing meal and shares it with everyone. What dive provides home cooked meals for free? huh? The drinks are super super super cheap and the bartenders are totally awesome. Theres a smoking area in the back with a table and dirty ass chairs but thats pogos for ya. Sometimes, theres a bunch of hogs parked right by the table so you get a mini-bike show.
I've had many incidents where I was so sloshed out of my mind that I start talking major shit to the other patrons but they usually never get mad and do anything outrageous. I've heard that there's been horrible fights but i've never encountered one. I f anyone were to get mad at me, I just come back the next night and apoligize but why would they stay mad at little 'ol me?
Just be careful of this one skinny hispanic dude, mustache, gangster-ish looking, about 28 yrs old. I heard he has a gun and had almost used it on one of my friends so watch out for him....

All in all, if you're one tough b*tch, and can handle anything, Pogos is the place for you. It's like Cheers with a little bit of a rough edge.

I used to live in Florida and loved hanging out in "old man" bars. You hear the best stories in there and those ol' bastards know how to drink! Well I found that same vibe at Pogo's. Just the name alone is reason enough to go... has a nice John Wayne Gacy/dead boys in the crawlspace ring to it, huh?

What you get at Pogo's is cheap drinks, great bar food and even better goddamn entertainment. Sit at the bar and get some healthy drinks poured by Linda, an amazing mature English transplant that knows how to keep 'em coming. Look around the room and you'll quickly be grateful for what you still have...a job, all your teeth and your dignity. Watch the old men drinking away their failed lives or watch the twitching scabby dudes looking over their shoulders before they escape to the filthy bathroom. I know from experience that if you snort enough drugs in one of those stalls, the smell isn't so bad.

I still have a soft spot in my heart for Pogo's. Unfortunately, since I just hit 1 year sober, I can NOT even think about going back. If you do go, drink one for me and send Linda my love.

I'm not gonna lie.. When I'm reading Courtney's review of the bar, I'm laughing my ass off.  Mostly because it's probably all true.  Maybe it's because this is the way my old bar was described, but I wouldn't have worked there for 3 years if it was soo bad.

This is not a bar I'd drive out to, because I dont live super close and I do like to drink.  But if I'm at Needle Pushers getting inked or with someone who is, I will definitely come in for a cocktail or two.

The jukebox is decent.. The bartenders are friendly. and the drinks are cheap.  The pool tables, not soo good, but still good enough to play a few games on.

The overall feel of the place is quite cozy.  Of course I could have just been with  good company.

And what is a dive bar without the oldies but goodies who've probably been around as long as anyone could remember??

Sure all dive bars have issues with certain types of people, fights or drugs..  But can you really have an establishment with tons of testostore and booze and expect 100% peachiness all the time??  probably not, and if so, people probably wouldn't want to go in there.  And from what I can tell..  it's got a good little crowd, it's never been empty when I've been in!
