Worst service. Tuesday night and was totally blown off, had to wait 10 mins just get water and bread, then it took ages just to get the waitress to order a appetizer. We never got our appetizer, she brought out dinner way later she apologized to us that she forgot to put the appetizer order in but kitchen is now out of it so it's too late.

I had the beef stroganoff ($19) was super bland (watery), the meat tasted cheap and chewy. I had to add a ton of salt and pepper to it.

When we got the bill the waitress then charged us for the appetizer that we never got and had to wait another 10+ mins for her to correct the bill.

From what we could see, this place is not up to the task of offering a good quality meal for the price there trying to charge.

The service was mediocre.  We asked about the fried chicken.  The waitress said it was good but never tried it.  She avoids fried foods because the chicken was greasy!  She did add it was organic and cut up each day. The food was poor.  The lemon artichoke was overcooked, salty with too much lemon. The chicken was ok and the chicken salad bland with too much dressing. I wish them luck would love to see it improve. We loved the menu selection.

Was down in Santa Cruz and really wanted some good seafood. This place came up on yelp so we decided to give it a try. Prices are very affordable, but with that being said you get what you pay for. The calamari appetizer tasted fresh, but my cod which was a special, was very dry and flavorless, in fact it kind of tasted like it was frozen first. Outside could use a facelift, looks a bit dated. Probably will not be coming back here.

Ah Sundays, you beloved seventh and most lackadaisical day of the week, how we adore thee.

As part of our weekly tradition we head out for a delicious easy brunch.  One of our regular spots, The Point, offers a fabulous $5 meal (2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes, before 11am) and a refreshing mimosa or bloody mary for $4.

However, service is a bit, well, lacking.  Everyone is nice, friendly but know in advance, this waitstaff will take your order and then deliver it.  And that's all folks; no drink refills, no ketchup, etc.

We still go and enjoy ourselves but we remember its Sunday, the beloved seventh and most lackadaisical day of the week.

I've been here about 3 times this year. Once for dinner and twice for breakfast over the weekend... Lets just say if you haven't tried them out yet you are truly missing out! This place is an east side gem brah!

$4 bloody marys that are amazing! I've gone with the Crab Benedict each time for breakfast and the consistency and flavor is incredible! Great job you guys! My girl had the Greek Scramble and that too was just awesome!

    Ambiance gets a 10. Parking 10. Service 8/9.

Overall this place rocks! I give it 5 SHAKAS! Au'rai!

I really liked this place. It was my first time here and I sat at the bar with a friend who reccomended we go here. Everyone who worked here had a smile on their face which made me feel welcome.  I will deffinately visit the resturaunt again. I have already suggested atleast 4 of my friends to go here.

I have been here many times over the years and many times I have had to send my food back because it was not cooked enough or it was over cooked. If your going to charge 30$ for a New York steak it better be amazing every single time. Not some cut that belongs at the Santa Cruz diner. Also if you have a special than it should be that "Special!" This place has so much potential I hate to see it like this. Buy better meat and get better cooks!

This place is one of my favorites, and where I go most often to get away to have some good food and a drink.  I actually do a lot of my writing here, so maybe I shouldn't be blowing it up on Yelp!..?  Oh well.  Anywho, this place has some of the best food and drinks that I have ever had at a restaurant establishment.  They make the best bloody mary on this side of Highway 1 (ask for the one with bacon in it), and their Breakfast BLT is immaculate.  Best part is no one bothers me here when I have my headphones on and I am in the zone, but when I am feeling friendly --I can always join in on a decent conversation at the bar.  Just my kinda place.

This place reminds me of the saying "you can put chrome on a turd, but all you have is a chrome plated turd"

Although the appetizers were good and my wife's dish was OK (the lobster special) my steak was burnt to a crisp. It was rock hard and completely inedible. My dad's salmon was burnt as well, but still somewhat edible. The service was incredibly slow and clearly amateurish.

When the server came by I summoned her to show her the steak. I kindly told her that I didn't want to cause a problem but my steak was burnt and inedible. She said she was sorry and told me that she would let the cook know? Then she offered me a complimentary desert? Which I politely declined considering I hadn't even had dinner yet, I even looked around trying to see if I was on one of those crazy TV shows where they do ridiculous stuff to see if you lose your mind!

I wasn't there to get a free desert, especially before I had dinner. It would have been nice if she brought me an edible steak and then offered a complimentary desert for the inconvenience. I didn't want to ruin the experience for the others I was dining with so I just ate my potato and some vegetables which were under cooked and ice cold. The server came by later and boxed my wife's dish and removed my uneaten steak. When the bill came I was hopeful she was going to offer some sort of conciliation, but she didn't. Complete amateurs.

Stay away from this place; go to the Crow's Nest or even Chili's.

Check out the prices and I guarantee you'll have a better dining experience. I have no affiliation with either establishment other then being a happy consumer.

    <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crowsnest-santacruz.com%2Flive-entertainment%2F&s=d2299c63bb1f01d30c79e53355dddb7eccec7bcc7e19d58e619621e8e53a3d97" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.crowsnest-san…</a>

In addition I took the time to write an email directly to this establishment to give them a chance to at least say they were working on improving their service and they hope I would give them another try. Nope, they don't even have that much business sense.

They would rather have another sh*tty review on yelp.

Service was extremely slow- after we were seated we waited about 15 minutes with no water, no bread, and no acknowledgement by any waitstaff.  The rest of dinner proceeded much the same- long waits for plates to be cleared and the next course served.  Steaks were good- but not great.  The booths were roomy, but the vinyl seat coverings and laquered wood table tops were outdated.
If the menu prices were super low then it *might* justify the poor service and lack of ambiance, but the prices are on par with the Crow's Nest (where you can get a decent steak, a nice ocean view, and good service) and Cafe Cruz (where you can get excellent steaks and fast, though sometimes arrogant, service).
We noticed that there was not a single busser in the dining room until about 8:30pm, which explains the slow service- for the prices on the menu, the management should be providing bus-people to assist the waiters, as any steakhouse and fine dining establishment would have.
We will not be returning to this restaurant.  I nonetheless give it 3 stars because there was nothing wrong with the food itself, and the waiter seemed like a nice person.

My first time eating at The Point, the food was excellent but the service was super slow, it took almost half an hour for the soup and salad to arrive. The waitress was super nice and explained that a large party had come in right before us, and offered complementary wine. The grilled ahi appetizer was huge and quite delicious. We also enjoyed the French onion soup, broiled salmon with jasmine rice and braised greens, and the pork chop was incredible flavorful and juicy. I look forward to going back again.

Excellent!  An off the beaten path gem!

We love The Point.  We had dinner there on Thursday night and just today tried their breakfast.  It was awsome!  The prices are reasonable and the portions were huge!  We have eaten here many times before and had the prime rib.  It was so large, I took half home for lunch the next day.  Today I had the breakfast chorizo quesadilla and it was soooo good.  I could go on and on about this restaurant, it's that good.

    Chef Jose is awesome!

The breakfast chorizo quesadilla is my favorite thing to get here! The bacon is always perfect.

Mimosa's are big, just the way i like them!

This place is a nice, reliable place for breakfast on the weekends and is always nice and chill!

Went here about 2 weeks ago for the first time even though we live in the neighborhood.  The hostess could have used a serious upgrade. She wouldn't be the person I would want greeting folks in my restaurant.  She also had a ratty looking green band-aid on her finger as she touched all the silverware and plates that were not going to be used at our table. Pretty gross!

Our server, Ashley, was REALLY sweet and did a pretty good job! However, I agree with Joe D. and found the staff a little inexperienced but I think it's because they were pretty young (like 18-20 young).

The interior has an identity crisis. Looks like Restaurant Impossible forgot to do the bathroom!  As an owner it would be easy to roll up your sleeves, throw out the weird bench, double fabric things on the windows, and paint the walls to give it a look that is at least comprehensive. The dinning room looks okay, could use a deep clean. Lots of cob webs over the booths and the bottoms of the table bases looked a little scummy.

I think if they adjusted a few simple things the actual space would greatly improve. Now, the food was another story. My steak was cooked great! It was under seasoned but that is easily fixed.  The Ahi appetizer was yummy and my husband's chicken dish had great flavor!  The wine and my cocktail were also good.

My suggestions to the owners would be to get a great hostess, do a good deep clean once a week, invest a little money to give the bathroom a simple update, and be sure your cooks are seasoning the meat. Easily things to improve.

Ohhhh...crab cakes benedict you are my weakness.  I don't know if it's because it is so good or because I like to come here after a night out.  But, it's honestly the only place where I have spent $8 on a mimosa and felt that it was worth every penny.  Most likely because it is the biggest mimosa that I have ever seen.

I have only been here for breakfast, big props for always quickly accommodating my group of friends.  I want to come back and try the seared ahi salad, I have heard good things about it!

I ate at the bar tonight. Teryaki skirt steak with baked potato. A Tuesday night. And i was alone  Ariel, the bartender was lovely and service oriented. The steak was tender and cooked just right. The vegetables were crisp- cooked to order. I don't like steam table mushy ones. These were just right. Some people complain about them. Just order them over cooked if that's what you want. The BP was good too  An excellent place to go if you're alone and want a goods meal at the bar.

I've been to The Point twice and both times the food & service were excellent. The seared ahi salad has got to be, hands-down, the best damn salad I have ever had. The salad consists of mixed greens, red cabbage, shredded carrot, seared ahi tuna encrusted with black sesame seeds, crispy fried wonton strips, a sesame peanut dressing, with salad sprouts on top. The dressing really tied all of the ingredients together and wasn't heavily applied like in most restaraunts. The amount of seared ahi in the salad was great as well, enough to share some and not diminish the meal. The crispy wonton strips added the desired crunch and didn't get soggy, even to the last bite. For a salad that costs $16.00, you really get a great meal that satisfies the appetite & taste buds. Absolutely delicious food.

Food was fine and the decor was good in the classic steakhouse fashion, but there is a reason why we were able to find an open booth on Friday night. The service was friendly but a little too amaturish.

I hate to nit-pik, but the following service gaffes occurred on Friday:

    -we were given three butter pats for five people;
    -we were provided an extra water glass, but not enough plate settings;
    -the waitress took my fork after the first course and I had to ask for a new one after my entree came;
    -on two occasions, drinks came to our table that we did not order;
-we were offered bread after we had finished dessert.

This is sad as this corner of Pleasure Point deserves a good restaurant.

I really don't understand all the negative reviews! My bf and I come here often( 2x month)-- we always sit in the bar and we always have excellent service! We have eaten off the menu, and have had several specials too- it's always fabulous! Will keep coming back!

Predictably, we used a Groupon-type discount ($20 for $40) on a weekday evening in the dining room (not the bar). Four of us: 2 pork chop, 1 steak, 1 fish & chips.  We arrived around 7 and left around 8:30.

Nothing really terrible occurred, and we ate our dinners without serious incident. If you read my reviews, you know I am extremely forgiving of some service problems and not super-picky about restaurants out of the mainstream where people might not have been properly trained.

Why 2 stars? It's all the "little" things. Stingy with the bread --- a table for four shouldn't have to ask for another bread serving 10 minutes after seating (and then NEVER be asked if we might want a 3rd serving). Coupon policy --- nowhere on our "deal" did it say that we couldn't use the coupon if we ordered the specials (a tiny scrap of paper tucked into the lower right-hand portion of the menu listed some pretty nice-sounding specials). When I pointed out to the order-taker than we were going to well exceed our coupon value anyway, she just shrugged and said we couldn't do it. End of idea. Water (now this is REALLY picky) --- several people carried ice water in plastic pitchers. Sometimes they'd fill one or two glasses, other times they'd stroll by. I think that during our entire meal, which was about 90 minutes, all 4 of us didn't have full glasses all at the same time (weird...).

But this was the thing that really ticked me off. We asked for a dessert menu, and our server just recited the items, which included key lime pie and tiramisu. When she got to the warm chocolate-chip cookie with ice cream, two of us "bit". It took a long time to get this dessert, as I think they were baking the cookie on the miniature, square black "cast iron" skillet upon which it was served. Both cookies were burned on the bottom, black. They were very thin cookies, and we could hardly taste the chocolate. The "scoop" of ice cream looked like it was taken up with a doll-size kitchen ladle from a play house. A dessert that could have been fabulous was so-so, at its best.  By the time we were finished with dessert, we did not feel like complaining, so we did not. The light level in the dining room is pretty dim, so it would have been hard to prove burnt cookies on a black plate.

The steak was cooked to order. The two pork chop orders were adequate, and the fish and chips was generous (correctly served with a substituted steamed green bean/beet/carrot mixture rather than the "chips"), with 3 large pieces of battered cod. We were left to talk and stay as long as we liked. Only the bar was crowded when we left; the dining room was empty.

I guess the main disappointment was the time it took for our orders to arrive and the kind of "oh, well" casual service.  And the fact that the seemingly unrestricted discount deal turned out to be pretty restricted, since at least two of us would have ordered off the specials menu if it hadn't meant possibly wasting our "Get Daily Deals.Com" investment.

The BF and I went to dinner here last night. Thursday night before a weekend of graduations. There was hardly anyone in the dining area, plenty of people in the lounge. We chose to eat in the dining room as it was quieter, or at least we thought it would be.
They used to have this back room for larger parties. It seemed to be walled up with plywood, albeit okay looking plywood; but still. There was a b-day party back there and they were very noisy. Considering we wanted a quiet dinner, they need some insulation!
They seemed to redecorate since the last time I was here and it looks nice until you really start looking - shoddy workmanship; but who really looks at the construction?

Okay onto the more important aspects of this place - the food!
I had a coupon and wanted the salmon special, oh sorry no coupons for the special. What? It's not like a special price, just something different than the menu items... whatever, I got the grilled salmon and it was very tasty! The dutchess potatoes were good but the veggies really needed something. Asparagus was okay but the carrots were raw! I'm not big on carrots anyhow and I already had my raw carrots earlier that day. They stayed on the plate.
The BF had peppercorn steak (you sure? Didn't you get that last time?) So you would think there should be actual peppercorns on the steak and not some peppery sauce, well a big fat ZERO for peppercorns! I hope to remember he ordered that again and NOT to order it next time around.

Overall, this place is nice. The service was good and the food was descent. The Mai Tai wasn't anything to write home about though. A little too sweet and the tall glass is obnoxious. Price was nice.

Oh yeah, when you could hear the background music (when the party was quiet for a moment) it was great!

We went to The Point for Mother's Day in May 2011.  We were a party of 6, and only 1 of us had been to The Point before (she had been for brunch a few times and had enjoyed her experience).

We arrived around 11:30am and the restaurant didn't seem very busy.  We were seated in the area to the left - not the seating area where the bar is located.  Our waitress was extremely friendly and we were off to a good start.  Our waitress came by about 10 minutes later but we made the mistake of asking her to come back as it took her at least another 15 minutes to come back!  We ordered a round of drinks including coffee, mimosas and bloody mary's.  Unfortunately it took about 10 minutes to receive our drinks but they were worth the wait as they were delicious.  We did not order at that time as we were waiting for another person to join us.  Once we were ready to order, we advised our busser (who was great and very attentive) but waited yet another 15 minutes to place our order.

We finally placed our order and the food arrived about another 20 minutes later!  Although we didn't see our waitress much, our busser was amazing - refilling our coffees and waters throughout the wait.

We ordered the special Farmers Scramble (eggs, cheese, asparagus, etc - DELICIOUS but the bacon really needed to be cooked a little longer), standard pancakes, BLT egg sandwich and standard Eggs Benedict.  Unfortunately, the eggs for the EB were way overcooked.  When we asked the waitress how does the cook usually serve the eggs, she replied "poached".  When we showed her the "poached" eggs, she agreed they were way over cooked.

During our wait for our food, we heard the waitress for the party behind us (approx. 12 guests) advise them that they had run out of hash browns and everyone would be served regular potatoes (many of them were not happy!).  However, we were never advised and out of the 6 of us, 1 received hash browns and the rest, regular potatoes.  How do you run out of hash browns on Mother's Day - when many have Brunch?  Especially when your menu only offers hash browns?

By the time we received our check and paid, we had been there from 11:30am to 1:30pm!  We did hang out for about 10 minutes after we received our check, but the dining experience was way too long.

Overall, the food was good, service good - but nothing was above par except for the drinks.  I could understand the longer waiting times and running out of food had there been a full house but for the 2 hours we were there, there really weren't that many people coming and going. We also felt like the waitress could of done a better job by acknowledging the delays - but she didn't seem to mind.  With so many dining options in the area, we most likely wouldn't make the drive back to The Point.

My friends and I went on a Saturday night. I have to say this feels like a bar with booths and tables tacked on. We ordered drinks first. I had a tall cocktail that was very weak and another friend ordered a cadillac margarita. She said she couldnt taste the Grande Marnier and that it was essentially lemonade. That being said I ordered another tall cocktail prior to being served dinner and it was proper. We ordered the coconut prawn as the appetizer, and the bb-q pulled pork sandwiches for main. I was surprised at how delicous the prawns were! They were amazing, and by far the best thing about The Point from what I experienced. They were meaty and hot, and crispy, but not oily. The sauce that came with it was kind of sweet and sour, with just a very slight hint of heat.
The bb-q pork sandwiches were just ok. You couldnt really call the sauce a bb-q sauce. It was an overly sweet sauce that was like no bbq sauce I've ever had. The meat was ok, but there was more bread than meat. To sum it all up,  I would have been more comfortable coming here to watch the game at the bar with a side of prawns and a beer, rather than coming here with an expectation of having a 'restaurant dinner'.

I started going to the Point for Sunday football and fell in love. The breakfast skins are amazing. If you say for lunch, there is always two games on Sunday and they show them all, try the skirt steak salad. I'm a burger guy, which are also very good, but the salad was different and excellent.

Bartenders are great, very friendly and good pours. Try the Bloody Marys!
Can't wait for March Madness. They have over 6 TV's showing all the games.

I think this is Pleasure Point's hidden treasure.

I really tried to like this place. I like the ambiance and it's always empty which I liked at first but now realize it should have been a sign. We had been in just for drinks and appetizers a couple of times, I thought the servers were kind of rude and unfriendly from the get-go, for example I came in there on my birthday and when the waitress checked my ID she didn't even wish me a happy birthday! How rude! But maybe I just like to be treated like a queen too much.

Regardless of the not-so-great service we had received thus far we still decided to bring a couple of friends in one night for some drinks and to order off an apparently non-existent bar/lounge menu. We thought there was a separate menu for the lounge that was different from the restaurant. Turns out we were wrong and obviously we should have known that, how dare we even ask!?

I don't see where you can get away with being rude to the only people in the place. We won't we back. Rude, unfriendly, unwelcoming, any other descriptive words that suggest BAD SERVICE should be applied. Haven't tried the food because we left disgusted by the horrible service before she could take our order.

Enjoy your empty restaurant while it lasts meanwhile I'll be waiting for you to go out of business so something better can move in.

I come here all the time with my friends for breakfast. It's one of the few places on Sundays where you don't have to wait in line for breakfast. I really enjoy the food, I got the Greek scramble which was perfect and the bacon was thick and crispy. The portions are reasonable and the prices are about average for any breakfast place in sc. But last Sunday was an awful experience.
The waitress we had was nice but could not get anything straight. The manager really needs to fire her, my friend had her before and he said she was also making all kinds of mistakes. We had to ask the emo looking busser to refill our coffee and we also had to ask her about our toast we never received and a number of other things. We would have asked our waitress but we didn't know where she was. Finally the busser asked us who our waitress was. I hope she complains to her boss about her.
Nevertheless we love this place and will be back.

The Point is comfortable but not fancy, and the food is delicious, simple and fairly priced.

I went with my boyfriend; he had a steak (16 oz. prime rib), and I had the horseradish salmon. The meat and fish were both amazing -- simply prepared, good quality cuts. The vegetables weren't overcooked or oily, the bread was fresh. And the house-made key lime pie was amazeballs!

Our server and the rest of the staff were super friendly, too. The atmosphere is comfortable and dark without being pretentious at all. This isn't a first-date restaurant, but it's a great place to come relax in the big, comfy booths and have a delicious dinner with someone you're not trying to impress.

Honestly, anyone who complains that this place is overpriced has never had to pay for a decent meal. Our dinner (three courses for him, entree and coffee for me) came to around $60, and the huge entrees were around $20 each. Everything else on the menu is fairly priced, too.

If we're ever in Santa Cruz and the boy is in the mood for a steak, we'll definitely be back.

Hubby took me to Santa Cruz for some Game Lovin Fun. Strolled the beach, played some Classic Arcade, Pinball, and airhockey.

Then we drove to this place for dinner. The server was attentive, and on point. We ordered the appetizer sampler: Garlic fries, calamari, artichokes,  coconut shrimp with 3 dipping sauces. It was ok.

Hubby ordered the Pleasure Point steak. An 8oz steak with olives, mushrooms, prawns with a Duchess Potato. He gave it 3 stars.
I ordered the ribeye with rice pilaf and they subbed the veggies with mushrooms in wine sauce. I gave it a 3 star.  I think for the price I paid, I would have liked Original Joe's in San Jose better and would have received a larger steak with leftovers of a phenominal quality.
    ALSO no DESSERT MENU. ARGH!!

I've been to the Point Chop House a handful of times now. The first time we hit up the banquet room for a dinner/b-day party. The full bar offers all the great middle to top shelf liquor you would like. Flat screen set ups are good for game viewing as well.

There is a big private room behind the bar and is well suited for larger groups or 14+. The menu has a wide variety of options for the carnivorous meat loving to the more conscience crunchy vegetarian/seafood type.

The other times have been were for breakfast/brunch. Again, you will find really good options for a decent price. Recently, I had the huevos rancheros which were delightful.  Probably one of the few times I had a Mexican dish and didn't walk away hating myself after. I also recommend the Bloody Marys if you like it with some kick and spice. Check this place out if you're in the area.

Every time we come here we leave saying, "never again." Yet we have been several times merely because this place is close to our house.
The food is overpriced for what you get. Although, the burgers (huge) may be the one thing on the menu that is worth anything. My prawns sat under a heat lamp for too long, and the steak was very poorly cooked. I like steak, but if I order it medium rare I hope for more than nice grill marks on bloody meat.
The manager is definitely not in the business of trying to please, and the waitresses in general (once we has a great one) are not really that interested in giving people a dining experience.
Again, tonight we left with the thought of never again.

Been there once, it is worth checking out, the key lime pie is probably the best I have ever had, the service was notable but not perfect, the food is pretty standard.  I had the porterhouse, and I must say it was just a porterhouse, not bad, not good, just exactly what I expected.  I probably won't ever choose to come back, but I would be more than wiling to if someone else suggested it.  I can't remember if the specials seemed original or good, but maybe that says something about them in itself.

I am a mid-westerner that has an occasional yearning for good quality beef and a potato, and this place was a delightful find. The price was reasonable (under $20 for a full prime rib dinner) and everything was well-prepared.  Everything from the bread to the side of veggies and the surprisingly good key lime pie was excellent, as was the beef.  Even the coffee was good.  The waitstaff were surprising attractive, friendly, and competent.  It would have gotten 5 stars but for the dark atmosphere: a combo of rathskellar, strip club, and casket kind of rolled into one.  I would definitely prefer something musically besides the same country song stuck on repeat. However, there is a plan for remodelling the restaurant area.  The lounge is brighter and looks like it was already updated.   I'll be back for the excellent food and service.

    Great steaks are The Point!
Finally a great steakhouse in the Capitola area. Don't be fooled by the address, this place is only two blocks off 41st Avenue. Having visited the Portola House, the former establishment at this location, several times over the last 20 years and never really impressed, my wife and I ordered our first dinner at the new The Point Chop House & Lounge with low expectations. From the new decor, to the salad and on to the delicious steaks we loved it! The steaks - she had the Petite Sirloin and I had the New York with Shrimp Scampi (loved those capers!) were great cuts of meat and cooked perfectly. We are done driving to downtown Santa Cruz for steak...not with the best steakhouse in the county right here in Capitola. Goodbye and good riddance to the old Portola House...welcome and long live the new The Point Chop House!
