Ponderosa used to be all over the place. My parents love this place and I did for a while, too, until the last time I went there and thought, wow, why do we like this so much?
Lots of comfort food and their specialty is steak. Lots of stuff your momma would make, so it can be nostalgic. The wings are the best fare there, as well as the mashed potatoes.
As Matthew W. said, the area is pretty run-down.
The Ponderosa chain was big in Northwest Indiana. Â Now, not so much. Â But luckily Gary doesn't update as quickly as some of its suburban sprawling neighbors. Â
Next to Ponderosa are some attractive stores. Â For example a dilapidated paintball warehouse that has a collapsed roof.
But screw all that, the food is fantastic. Â Wings are my fav: they have good flavor. Â Today, they also had hot wings. Â They really know how to make some good mac and cheese, rotisserie chicken, and potatoes.
