Port Barrington Bar & Grill

We had a great experience!!!  This place has great food from casual sandwiches to fancy meals.  I had the burger with Cheddar, gilled onions, and bacon . It was great!  miy wife and a friend in our group both had the pecan crusted tilapia and loved it.  I tried it myself and agreed.  Theyhave a great Italian beef/suasage combo as well!!  great fries!! Service was great!! from the Hostess to the waitress.  We went there to see the band Hudson McCoy.  I had asked the owner if they could get us a good table for both dining and viewing the band.  But then I had an idea to make it a little more fun for our group I asked the owners if they would help in playing a gag on my friends.  They went above and beyond.  I asked if they could have someone sitting at our table that was reseverd for us when we arrived that would refuse to leave (our table) to create a little drama when we got there and would agree to go after talking to me.  The owner had her father sitting there with another person. Both the owner and her father played their parts flawlessly.  My friends loved the joke and didn't know until just befoere we leaving that it was a prank. We laughed our heads off!!  We truly enjoyed the band and the food!!!!  Great experience all around.  If you want to have fun with you friends and have an idea for a prank this is the place to go.

Port barrington Has a new Owner ,  Seems like most of the good menu items from the previous  owners  are  no longer on the menu , Come on " Blackened Scallops"  the place was famous for them, I did order something from the old menu the (don't remember the name  but it was a pasta dish with sausage  and a light cream sauce  it wasn't as good as the previous ownership  I guess its because its a new chef   , the owner did come on by the table and introduced himself  and he was pleasant enough  and was inviting , I just think he needs to think about the menu choices ,  put some old favorites back on it  and add some new ones  but  don't lose or shun  the clientele that you have had for the past 14 years.  in my opinion he  took off all the items worth coming into the restaurant for.

This place suffers from "Great Food Crappy Atmosphere" syndrome. Oysters Belvidere topped with horseradish and caviar were incredible. Chicken DeJonghe was great. The chef (Fernando?) was incredibly friendly and at our table all night. But it's definitely like walking into a place where you'd expect to get into a fight on a Friday night. You should stop by once, at least for the oysters.
