Went to the Power Plant Bar to grab dinner while in town for the weekend. Â Unfortunately we were unable to eat there as the service was so slow (even though there were several open tables) that the one group in front of us got tired of waiting to be seated (and going unacknowledged for a long time by the staff) and left and we followed them shortly after that. Â Disappointing.
Review Source:To be honest, the first impression isn't that great, but the old power switches are a cool effect. I can tell, honestly though, that everything they make there is incredibly fresh, not frozen, and all breading is made from scratch and hand breaded. My husband had a pork tenderloin and shared some with me. It was amazing. I had chicken tenders that were incredibly fresh and house made. Great service and good prices. It wasn't busy in the afternoon, which was really nice. For the best tenderloin in town, go here!
Review Source:This is the hotel bar for the enormous French Lick Springs Resort/Casino. Â There is a bar in the casino as well, but that's really more for the gamblers. Â The Power Plant is located in the hotel just a few steps from the Grand Colonnade buffet.
The Power Plant bar is located, funny enough, in the old power control room. Â It's pretty neat sitting in a dark room illuminated by the flickering lights from the old control panel.
As far as the drinks go, it's pretty typical hotel bar stuff. Â A few beers on tap. Â Some local. Â Some macro. Â There is a fairly extensive martini selection however.
My bartender was extremely friendly without being overbearing.
Listening to Jazz singer Sarah Stivers was a treat! She's awesome!
Decent bar food (albeit a little pricey) as well as strong drinks. Highlight of the place is a wall filled with antique power switches that adds to the fun atmosphere.
First time I visited here there was smoking allowed. I wrote a respectful letter asking them to discontinue smoking here and I was shocked when they wrote me back agreeing with me. Sure enough, on my second and third trips it permanently became no smoking! Smoking is now only in the designated area of the casino.
Hubby and I enjoyed a great burger and fries here on a Friday night. Â They were busy, but our server was quite attentive and everything was hot and cooked properly.
The lounge had a jazz singer that began around 8 pm I think, she was a nice addition. Â Our table was about as far away from her and the bass player and guitarist who accompanied her, might have been a little loud if we were closer.
The onion rings looked amazing, but we opted for fries since onion rings tend to not agree with me these days.
If you visit the resort, you should plan to take in a sandwich of some sort here.
I ordered French Onion soup and a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was $11.95 for five average sized shrimp. The soup was exceedingly sweet. They must have added sugar to the recipe to achieve this bizarre flavor. My friend and I both sent it back. To top it all off, the lounge singer belted out the theme song to Welcome Back Kotter!!! Â Personally, I would have preferred the jazzy & upbeat theme to the Jeffersons if I was going to croon 70s sitcoms.
Review Source:Really liked the Power Plant when it first opened, it was probably my favorite bar/restaurant on the property. Â At some point though, they revamped their menu, and now basically serve only burgers and some side items. Â Great for some, but being a vegetarian the only thing I could get off the menu (according to our server) was an order of onion rings. Â She was completely unwilling (or perhaps unable) to ask the kitchen if there were any entrees available for vegetarians. We ended up staying for drinks and the service was so bad that I don't think we'll be coming back! Â If you want a burger and fries walk across the street to the Denny's, it is cheaper and they have better service!
