I just ate here for the first time ever and I absolutely loved everything. Our waitress was super friendly and made sure we were taken care of. Great beer selection and great food as well. The goat cheese appetizer was tasty and I had the ahi tuna wrap which was amazing. I will definitely be coming back!
Review Source:I'll be the first to admit, this is a pretty gimicky version of an English pub, but it's a fun place. Â Their trivia nights are a good time, and they have one of the best drink menus in the area. Â The first few times I came here, it was for drinks only, then I tried it for dinner, and was pleasantly surprised. Â The menu is standard for pub fare, but it has consistently been good. Â It can get loud and crowded, especially on weekend nights, but it's a good place to go, if you can snag a table.
Review Source:The first thing you should know is this is not an British Pub. Â This is an American mall version of an British Pub. Â So it is bigger, louder, dumber and (in its defense) a lot cleaner than any version it sets out to emulate. Â As others have mentioned, it is kind of like a Disney amusement park version of an British Pub. Â Various English Premier League logos and flags are displayed prominently, as are the logos of british and european beers and whiskeys. Â Perhaps more so than you would see in the real version. Â The servers all wear kilts--which is actually Scottish (and, to a lesser extent, Irish) traditional dress. Â So, a muddled message in execution of concept.
On the other hand, they have a lot of modern, customer friendly, conveniences like flat screen tv's and wifi. Â They even have tables with built in beer taps--an interesting, but potentially disastrous idea given that most of the patrons will likely try to drive home from this suburban location.
All things considered though, this was a fun place to spend an evening on St. Patrick's Day weekend. Â They had a couple of good bands booked and, with a boisterous, inebriated crowd, I think a good time was had by all.
Service was a little spotty, but that was probably due to the sheer volume of business they were doing on a busy weekend. Â I'd be interested to see how the service is on an average day.
As others have mentioned, the Kentucky Bourbon Ale is awesome. Â Give it a try if you go.
I come to The Pub Polaris so often, and have been for so long, I figured I should give it some Yelp love!
I love The Pub. I frequently go there on my own, and it's always my first suggestion when I have visitors from out of town and want some food & drinks. It's also my first suggestion for dates, dinner with the parents, drinks with friends ... basically, if you want to hang out with me outside of my home, you're going to The Pub and you're going to like it.
They have a wide selection of beer, something for every taste. They also have a nice selection of scotch (yum). Even if you're a frequent visitor, you'll never run out of new things to try with their rotating cask selections. Their food is very good as well. I've sampled just about everything on the menu, and have enjoyed just about all of it. The only menu item I would warn you away from is the steak, it's not their strong point. For me, their menu highlights are the lamb burger and the fish & chips. I usually get one of these two things when I go. Their fish & chips is fantastic: fried to perfection, seasoned well, and not the least bit soggy or greasy. It's honestly the best I've had in Columbus, and considering our fair city's vast array of English and Irish pubs, that's saying something.
I've seen complaints about the service in other reviews, but personally, I've never had an issue. I have sat at the bar, at the indoor tables, and at the patio tables, all on numerous occasions, and haven't noticed any huge problems with the service. They are very busy at times, but still manage to keep up with their customers well. The bartenders are always pleasant and good at checking in to see if you'd like another beverage in a timely manner.
Speaking of the patio, the patio is awesome!! When the weather is warm, there's nothing better than sitting out there and having a nice meal & brew while people-watching or enjoying some free entertainment, courtesy of one of the bands that are often playing in the square during the summer, right there across from the patio. (You can also smoke out there, if you're an evil smoker like myself)
I think my favorite thing about The Pub is that it seems to attract a bit of a more high-brow clientele than most bars. I've never had to contend with creepy guys trolling the bar, raucous frat boys, "woo girls", or any of the other similar staples that keep me away from bars in general. This isn't to say that it's not a fun atmosphere, because it is. It's just a more grown-up type of fun.
Of course, it gets busy during peak hours, just like every other place in the area. If you want to go out to eat on a Friday night in the Polaris area, you're going to wait, no way around it.
They also have pretty nice happy hour specials and Trivia Night on Mondays. I love their Sunday brunch, definitely check that out, especially if you're a Bloody Mary fan!
I would (and do) recommend The Pub to anyone. Maybe I'll see ya there!
This is pretty much what you expect from a British-style pub. I've eaten here before and it was pretty good for pub food, not great but solid.
The beer list isn't the biggest in town but they've chosen wisely and there are very few poor options on the list. And the cocktail menu is lovely... any place that makes a good Pimm's cup is tops with me. So, all-in-all, come for the beer but stay for the scenery.
At lunch time on Friday, the atmosphere was one of a teenage hangout with no over sight. The scotch egg was over cooked and the mustard was below par. The burger was above average but the waiter's recommendation of the welsh dip was barely edible. The waiter was not slow but quite rude. I think I'll pass on future visits to the pub.
Review Source:I've been coming to The Pub Polaris for years. I used to work at Barnes and Noble and this was THE hang out spot after a long days work. I still enjoy coming here for drinks and good food. Last night, some old buddies of my boyfriend and I met up there with us and we had a great time, we were almost there for 6 hours drinking and eating and even playing cards. That's what makes this place so cool. They have such a great selection of drinks and the wait staff are so friendly that you can stay for hours and have a great time. For food last night, I had the Young's BBQ Burger. It was messy and huge and delicious. And then I had the Warm Cookie Sunday, which was exactly like it sounds...fresh baked warm cookies with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle on top. My boyfriend had his favorite fried pickles and our other friend had their red curry chicken wings. I knock off a star because this really is in no way an authentic English pub(I studied abroad in London...trust me...), but it's still always a great hang out joint.
Review Source:"God save our gracious Queen
Long Live our Noble Queen
God Save the Queen
Send Her Victorious
Happy and Glorious
Long to reign over us
God Save the Queen" Â
Verse one for you. Â You probably didn't know there are five other verses too. Â Take that to trivia night, with my compliments, of course.
And now, my review:
Ahhhh The Pub. Â One of England's gifts to the world meets Disney. Â We Americans love to Americanize everything till there's little life or soul in these poor imports don't we? Â Think "Chinese" food that people in China would go WTF is this? Â "Mexican" food that Mexicans ask what this is sh*t? Â And so on.
Here's an English pub where everything is covered with posters of The Beatles, The Stones and pictures of the Queen and the employees are dressed in kilts. Â Yeah, that's authentic isn't it?
I'm surprised that they don't have someone outside dressed up as the Queen waving people in like that tax place does with the "Statue of Liberty". Â I hope this doesn't give them any ideas.....
So, as long as you realize this is corporate America's version of an English pub ie, let's make $$$$ off a great thing, then you'll be OK with this place. Â The food is good but not great except for the fish and chips....awesome everytime. Â Beer selection is also a big selling point with these folks. Â They've got a good representation of beers / ales from the British Isles.
Service is the usual corporate schlock. Â It's usually pretty good but never over the top.
It can be a bit loud in here so if you don't like noise, come at an off time. Â
I like it for what it is but would love to find a more "real" English pub here in Cbus.
I absolutely LOVE the Pub. Â An amazing selection of Beers on tap, and a great selection of Scotch. Â The food is very good and offers a great change of pace from your traditional Bar Food with their British inspired menu. Fish and Chips, the Welsh Dip and The Shepard's Pie are just a few of my favorites. Â But as good as all of the food and beverage options are what really makes this place great is the staff. Â They are always courteous and polite but also very jovial and fun which always makes for an entertaining night out. Â Do yourself a favor and check it out for yourself.
Review Source:I've been here a few times and each visit has provided excellent beer selection, delicious food and quality service. The decorations inside are what you would expect in a higher end restaurant; the servers here wear kilts (and skirts? Do girls wear kilts?). Get the beer cheese appetizer, served hot with chips and veggies! I got the BBQ burger on my second visit and was not disappointed. The BBQ sauce was sweet and the burger  was not too huge (a plus for me!) but was filling enough I brought some home. Definitely recommend this place if you are at Polaris!!
Review Source:This is easily my favorite restaurant at Polaris. I'm a beer guy and this is a great place to go for beer. Yes they have that standard yellow fizzy trash you can get any where but they also have a lot of craft beer offerings along with a passport program if you're truly dedicated to trying all that they have to offer. Â
They also have two features for the beer geeks: a cask beer that changes weekly  and a tap table for parties of 8 or more.  The tap table comes with four taps right in the middle of the table so you don't have to keep flagging your server down for more beer, it's right there in the middle of the table for you. Â
The food here is terrific as are the desserts. Â The Young's Double Chocolate Burger is easily their best burger among a lot of other good burgers. Â They also have a fantastic cheesecake made with Glenmorangie scotch which is my go-to dessert because it's awesome. Â They also have scotch eggs on the menu for appetizers. Â But honestly, they make nothing that sucks so everything on the menu is worth eating. Â
The servers are usually quite busy so while they may not always be hanging around for instant beer refills for you they will get to you within a reasonable amount of time so you can peruse their book of beer to decide what you are going to try next while you wait. Â In perspective, there are a lot of tables at The Pub with a lot of drunken folk taking their time to order more beer. Â Even though the servers are busy, I have never had bad service from this place. Â
The only downsides to this place is the noise level, which is quite high due to the acoustics of the building, the sports on the TVs and their fans, and also because the beer they have is pretty strong which causes loud conversation. Â The other downside is the wait time. Â It's usually an hour and a half wait on a weekend night and 30 minutes to an hour on a weekday night. Â Head over to Barnes and Noble to kill some time while you wait, because you will wait.
The Pub is one of my favorite places. I have been going to the Pub Polaris for a few years now, every Monday night at 7:30PM just to play trivia, get together with friends, eat good British food, and drink an eclectic variety of rotating beers, and it never seems to disappoint.
The wait staff is incredibly friendly, and they very much take care of their regulars. They occasionally bring in live music, which often times isn't much to write home about, and the sound levels for those nights may not be for everyone. However, you can't really beat Wine-down Wednesdays (1/2 off bottles of wine). Or their build your own Bloody Mary for those rough Sunday mornings.
All in all, this is a great bar experience for any passerby and if you are reading this thinking whether or not you should try it; You definitely should.
I'm not a fan of chains, so this is a rare exception to the rule, but damn was this place good or what. This venture to the Pub was not for food mostly. We split an order of delightful fries with two types of pretty good curry sauce. The main case was beer beer beer.
I literally was floored by the prices. Places like these are usually absurd with their prices per pint, especially with imports and regional microbrews. I drank through 8 or so beers at less than $30 with tip. My list of beers, all 20 oz imperial pints or snifters were as followed: Bell's Two Hearted Ale, Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale out of the cask, Belhaven Scottish Ale, Fuller's ESB, Belhaven Twisted Thistle, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Fuller's London Pride, and finished with a Yuengling Lager.
I'm lucky I'm a decent sized manly man. That's enough high ABV content beer to floor a third world country. Quite an enjoyable night, I slept in til 10:30am after that, no hangover, only happiness. Maybe I'll eat there next time even.
My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place. All the food is always delicious. The wait staff is usually good, though we had one bad experience a few times though. But I wont judge the entire place based on that one waitress. Best fried pickles I've ever had, and the bacon wrapped dates are delicious too. I would definitely recommend stopping in.
Review Source:The beer is as good as always, the food still solid to above, and the service normally solid though not what it once was. Â The Scotch egg is still available, great app, and their calamri is hands down the best in town (great sauce, texture, the whole deal), and the cheese bollocks - ahh, the cheese bollocks. Â Unhealthy as all get out, and just as good.
The bangers and mash is a great meal, quite filling and great tastes, blending and mixing fantastically. Â The lamb burger CAN be grand when cooked proper, but beware they've been known to overcook it on occasion, so cut into it before keeping it. Â They've unfortunately done away with the cranberry chutney on top of it, but still a great sangwich. Â Their homemade crisps are a fantastic side, never disappointing, as are the tabasco straws.
The pub is one of my favorite places at Polaris. The drinks aren't too overpriced, the food is better than you'll get at any of the larger chains, and they have trivia on Monday and half off bottles of wine on Wednesday.
If your eating I recommend the goat cheese as an appetizer, the ham and Swiss pub pretzel at lunch, and the shepherds pie for an entrée. All my friends really like the fish and chips too.
You can't go wrong with the pub.
Went here with a few work pals this week and the experience was acceptable to pretty good. I had been here a year ago and the event was so underwhelming that I hadn't returned. This time, it was okay...but just okay.
Upside: they have "Wine Down Wednesdays" where select bottles of wine are half off. This was perfect for our group (who frequently meets to 'wine & whine' at times). The selection was pretty decent and we enjoyed our cab.
Even More Upside: the service was great! Our server took really good care of us and made the entire experience very pleasant. Â She overheard a simple comment one of us had made about the poor quality and dry/hard texture of the pita slices that accompanied our goat cheese dip and immediately came over with an additional bread option for us to try (which wasn't much better, but nice that she tried)....which leads to the Downside: the food is a notch below the price points they are at. The variety on the menu sounds good, but the quality just didn't meet the expectation set by the menu.
I will return on Wednesdays for wine, and maybe for the live music they have on Friday and Saturday eves, but I won't order food.
The atmosphere in the bar was awesome. Â I really noticed the attention to detail throughout the entire bar.
I ordered a Tuna wrap which is one of my favorites. Â The presentation of the food was just as expected, however when i finally diged it, i felt like i had more lettuce then tuna. Â I might have had a bad one considering i ordered it at 8pm. Â Maybe ill give it a try another time.
The most disheartening aspect of my visit was my beer. Â I ordered a simple yuenling and the waitress brought me a 3/4 full pint glass. Â My entire table just sat and stared at it till the waitress left the table, then they began laughing. Â I was pretty amazed myself. Â I even took a picture of it to post. Â Ive been trying to think of a scenario for why i was served this and none really made sense.
Came here for the Fish & Chips and a Guiness poured right and was quite happy with the outcome. Great place just to come in a and look at all the polished wood, UK memorabilia, women in short plaid skirts, men in kilts and plenty of Footie flags and games on the toobs. I can see wh yso many UK ex-pats come here to watch and drink and eat.
Great menu of many traditional UK standards. While a bit on the pricy side for what I consider pub grub it was all high quality and served very well.
I believe it is generally  hard to screw up a good "pub" -- but The Pub seemed successful!
We went for a "quick" lunch before a marathon day of shopping. Â When we arrived, the restaurant was not busy there were many open tables. Â Score! I thought, we'll get right in and out. Â WRONG.
The food took a very, very, very long time. Â When it finally came out, it was the wrong order. Â I ordered an egg sandwich and what was handed to me was mushrooms, beans, and eggs. Â I said to the food server "is this an egg sandwich?" and he said "yup!" and walked away. Â Several minutes later we were able to flag down our server and the correct meal arrived.
The food was "meh..." Â My fiance had a pretzel roll prime rib sandwich and I had the egg sandwich. Â The potato casserole was seriously cheesed up and the egg sandwich was dripping w butter. (I don't want it to be THAT blatant that what I am eating is not good for my hips!).
Surrounding us, the table behind us also got served wrong food and the table next to us canceled their drink order because after fifteen minutes the bloody marys never made it to the table.
The service was nice, but slow and not that informed. Â
I will say I would definitely, definitely go back if I was promised a seat at the amazing table with its own taps in the middle!
A fun hang out and dinner place. I've been here for lunch, for drinks, and for dinner. I have never been let down. The Pub has a good menu with many beers to choose from as well as other drinks. The food is good and served well. The waiters in kilts have always served to be fun too. It has good scenery with a British atmosphere.
It's always fun to sit at the King's Table if you can.
I don't go here for the drinks. Â I go for the scenery and the appetizers.
Men in kilts. Â Women in shorter kilts. Â It has a nice "pub" feel with warm wood everywhere. Â The goat cheese dip appetizer is the best thing on the menu. Â Served with toasted pita chips, it's beyond compare.
We tried the Tipsy Laird dessert once, but they grilled the pound cake in the sandwich press, which had apparently just been used on a sandwich with a large amount of onion. Â I wouldn't get that again.
I have a friend working her way through the beer passport, so I'm sure to return time and again.
I used to go there every Friday Night. Â They have a great crowd there usually and sometimes a live band.
I recommend the Fish and Chips - it is quite yummy.
The Beer - there are so many flavors. Â If you think you will be a regular - start your passport (I have completed mine) an work toward it. Â You will end up trying new beers that you may or may not like.
A couple of drinks I was introduced to - Guinness and Black Currant, Guinness and Strong Bow Cider.
Where can you go wrong when everyone wears kilts and they have a great tap table that you must reserve.
Enjoy
On our visit to Ohio we stopped here to meet some family and I thought this place was pretty good.
I had the soft pretzels with beer cheese and veggies for an appetizer and they were yummy. My salad was good and my husband said his salmon was good. I ha bread pudding for dessert and it was pretty good, some parts were a little over cooked but overall it was a good meal. The restaurant had some great beers available as well.
I'm surprised i haven't reviewed this place sooner.
The Pub is one of my new favorite places to just sit and down a few drinks, and sample some drinks you've been eying for a long time, but were afraid to pay full price for.
I find myself at the the pub not really because of the food, or even really the ambiance, but I do like the decor. Sure, it's probably not authentic, and it's littered with signs like an Applebees gone 1960, but you at least have to admit that the huge bar and the woodwork is kinda amazing, and enough to keep your drunken eyes wandering about.
Anyways, I love their mixed drinks here. All of the mixed drinks are named after Beatles's songs, or other 60's songs. Hoakie, yes! However, they are out of this world good!
My husband is an ale and beer drinker, so we were excited that they offer sample sizes, which started his new found love for hard cider after a sample of Crispen. This place has some wonderful beers and ales on draught. If you come here and leave thirsty, then it's your own damn fault.
A recent food menu change has left me kind of grumbly, because now it seems like every burger, or sandwich you order has some sort of cranberry chutney strewn all over it. NO, thanks! I miss my roasted red pepper, and goat cheese burger contraption!
The fish and chips are surprisingly delicious and melt in your mouth, so you might want to give it a try, but honestly, I'm not the biggest critic on fish.
However, you need to try their goat cheese dip, which goes great with drinks, and come with complimentary endless pita bread. Yes, please! I think we milked that around three times in one night while sloushing down drinks.
Let me break it down.
Food: Nah, it's a chain. What do you expect?
Drinks: Holy mother... YES, PLEASE!!
I do have a complaint (what!? Another one?) I hate the music in this place. One night it's regular alternative, the next it's Eminem and Will Smith hip-hop hour.
They also used to have this terrible 80's DJ come in. Absolutely terrible, and it was so loud you really couldn't understand anything your friends were saying. It was a bit like talking over a concert in front of an 8 foot amp.
Other than that, Check out the Pub.. especially during happy hour, or after an excruciating swim upstream, violently fighting off people and baby strollers from the Polaris Mall.
There are so many things I like at The Pub...and there are so many things I don't.
The place is gorgeous with lots of neat wood, beautifully carved chairs and tables, a massive hand-carved bar, and lots of fun kitsch decorating the place. There are a ton of TVs around, and they make an effort to show Sky Sports and "proper" football.
Their beer selection is huge, and I love the many regional UK beers on tap, plus the wide selections of spirits.
Much of the food is surprisingly good, though sometimes a bit overpriced, and I love the shepherds' pie or the pub crisps. (The chips are a bit weak, though - almost like steak fries out of a bag than properly made on site...)
Where I am let down is the atmosphere and the service.
When I think of a pub, there's nothing wrong with a bit of music, but several times I've been in here and the music has been so loud that discussion with someone at the same table I'm at was impossible without shouting.
Waitstaff range the gamut from helpful to actively hostile, with no apparent rhyme or reason, and the last time I was in there I got the distinct impression that our waitress couldn't wait for us to pay up and leave from the moment we sat down.
I want to like this place. It serves a ton of food I like, they have a well run trivia night, and I'm a sucker for a place where I can get a bumblebee or a black velvet without having to explain what it is. But it seems like the last few times I've been in there, I keep wondering if I might have been better off somewhere else.
For being a bastardization of England in America, it's okay. The beer selection is nice, and the tap table is cool when you want to booze it with a group.
It's weird, as it tries to be a "bar" and also a "restaurant" and tries to act like it accommodates kids. It isn't a kid friendly place, because of the vast amounts of beer flowing and drunken idiots walking around.
The food is okay and overpriced.
The staff is so damn hit-or-miss. The first few times my servers were MOSTLY attentive, fast and there when you needed them. Once we had a bad server that messed up drink orders. The last time I went on a date there, our server screwed our beer order, our food order, and the check up. It was lousy service, and we ate as fast as we could, finished our one beer and got out (we ordered a second round, that never showed up, didn't end up on the check, so we left).
It's okay if you're not looking to be wowed by food and drink beers that could be had cheaper elsewhere. Basically, it's like a bar masquerading as a restaurant for the Polaris crowd.
I have enjoyed The Pub during both of my visits.
The atmosphere here is OK, but way too loud. We were seated in the bier garden/indoor patio area. There was a (bad) live cover band playing loudly by the front door and it was difficult to carry a conversation. Otherwise, yeah its a pub and also a restaurant. Standard decor. One thing I will mention is that the chairs in the patio were so terribly uncomfortable, I could not sit still the whole time. My fiancee had actual bruises on her legs from sitting. If management is reading this, please put some padding down! Wrought iron chairs are not comfortable especially when they protrude into the back of your legs.
The beer selection is pretty good and THEY HAVE CASK ALE! This is pretty hard to find in the area and I would probably come here just for that. All the drinks were served professionally, in the correct glass with a solid pour.
Food. Good. Shepherds pie and ribeye sandwiches have both been consumed and enjoyed here. Not much more to say.
Service. Also good. The waitress was very nice, especially considering we were using a coupon. Would recommend to friends.
Lastly, I just want to mention they have a great idea of TXTing people when their table is ready. Every place should have the option to do this instead of carrying around those awkward vibrating things or the old fashioned way of calling names.
I'm a firm believer you can make anything delicious by adding bacon and cheese. However, tavern crisps at The Pub at Polaris absolutely stand out above the rest. Umm, yum!
The burgers are also delicious, as well as fried pickles (so far that's all I've tried).
You MUST try the tap table too. Really cool - four options for your drinking pleasure connected to your table and you get charged based on how many ounces of beer you pour. I need this at home for sure.
The Pub also has Wine Wednesdays (my favorite day of the week!) when all of their bottles are half off. Good happy hour. Fun events too (including their annual New Year's Ever celebration - definitely worth checking out).
Fun atmosphere. Good service. Waiters in kilts. SCORE!
The Pub is really like stepping into a British Pub -- albeit a much cleaner one but with just as many soccer hooligans bantering about on most game days as in any London establishment.
Dark wood, frequent live bands and a classic full bar setup makes for a fun time, every time.
Though the menu isn't necessarily good for everyone -- some of the more Brit-inspired stuff like 'bangers & bash' is heavyand a bit odd -- the apps get rave reviews by pretty much everyone I've talked to.
I personally loved the goat cheese, almond and marinara dip. The combo of warm cheese and tangy tomato is deelish. Friends recommended the Tavern crisps (loaded baked potatoes) and the fried pickles.
They also get one other vote for awesomeness from my husband. We visited on the day Michael Jackson died in 2009, and the GM was cool enough to let us blast 'greatest hits' CD hubby made before we headed out to celebrate the legend that was MJ. We danced and sang in the aisles as "Billie Jean" blared over the loudspeakers.
Table-top tap!!!
One of the coolest contraptions ever witnessed in my dining/boozing history was at The Pub at Polaris.
There in all it's glory sat an IPA, stout, lager and ale dispenser right in the middle of my table. My insider source (aka my waiter) told me this Pub is the only location where one can enjoy this new & magical piece of thirst-quenching machinery. Sadly, I think this is an RSVP-only, party table but TOTALLY worth it.
The kilt-sporting waitstaff was interesting... and surprisingly enough, I enjoyed the waiters in kilts much more than I did the waitresses. Must've been because the waitresses looked they enjoyed it WAY too much.
I did not try the food - only the beer - so I cannot comment on the menu items, but the beer selection was great!
Also, on my way out (on a Friday night) I spotted a guitarist warming up and prepping for his set. Live music - WIN!
First, lets get this out of the way - This is not a pub. Â This is not even close to a pub. Â Since moving from the UK, I've been desperately looking for a real pub and I just don't think I'll find it in Columbus. Â This is a restaurant masquerading as a what Americans think a pub is.
But, here's the kicker, its fun here. Â They have a good number of beers on draught and our server was knowledgeable in all of them. Â He brought my friend and I a free pint for her to try Strongbow Cider as she had never had it before but was scared to since she's not a beer drinker. Â He even agreed that Magner's is better but where to find it in the US... Not even he knew. Â
Our food was average. Â My friend got the Fish and Chips which were 1/2 price that night and I got a portobello sandwich. Â While there were a few items of traditional British pub fare on the menu, it was too extensive to be a basic pub menu (usually just a few items), and to simple to be a gastro pub menu (that needs some real culinary finesse!)
It was quiz night and our waiter convinced us to stay for it. Â We did horribly but had a wonderful time and by the end of the evening, the waitstaff had picked us as the best table and we got a Young's pint glass and t-shirt to take home. Â If its your 1st time here, go on quiz night, forget about having any self-respect, and have a blast with a pint of your favorite ale. Â
While I'll keep searching for the authentic pub experience in the US, I'll at least have this place to keep me entertained.
I feel like I should begin by pointing out that the food at The Pub is only okay. I've had better Sheppard's Pie. I've had worse. I can say the same about the Fish and Chips, all the sides, and every other thing I've tasted off of the food menu. The real standout is the bar itself and its beer and spirit selection.
The Pub has a nice selection of whiskey and scotch, and the bar staff are knowledgeable enough to put together a nice flight of either if you're in the mood to do some sampling. Tasting is encouraged when it comes to their beer selection too. Ask to try any of their beers on tap or the rotating cask before committing to a pint, if you'd like. Â If you're open to suggestions, mine is the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Â Try it alone or as a beer cocktail, a Black Barrel. Â
Cheers!
Great selection of drafts. Not really a pub (too nice/fancy for it), also what's up with the tacky server uniforms?
The food is really good, we had fish and chips and a fish flatbread sandwich, both excellent and not too pricey for what you get.
We were, however, disappointed that one draft of strongbow and one draft of old speckled hen rang up to the tune of $11.50, ouch.
Good place to get some pub grub if you ever (for some odd reason) get tired of old bag of nails.
I wouldn't have been able to decide whether or not to give this place 2 or 3 stars, but since Danielle B. was in the same predicament and bumped The Pub up to 3, I'll knock them down to a 2 for balance.
Really the name "The Pub" says it all. Despite this establishment's goal to make itself unique, it is really pretty generic and downright comical. I almost feel like the tagline for this place is "It's like a real British pub in YOUR neighborhood." Except it's not. And I can tell you this not having ever even set foot on the British Isles. If Epcot Center's "World Showcase" had an area for England, this is what it would be. The Pub.
The intricately-crafted center bar with all of the beers on tap is pretty impressive, I'll give them that. They have a good beer selection (although not as good as Winking Lizard's). The staff was friendly and the food tasted fine. But why would you come here to eat? I mean, who in their right mind has a conversation with friends or family and says, "You know guys, I just...I really have a hankering for some British food. MMmmmm. Like a big plate of, uh, bangers and mash?"
Their menu consists of appetizers from "All over the British Empire" which is hilarious. It's like a small list of westernized dishes from people they've oppressed. There's the chips with two different curries (India), Jamaican jerk shrimp (Jamaica), Seared Ahi Tuna (er, various East and South Asian properties). I mean, come on guys. Other than that, the food is standard fare: soups, burgers, sandwiches, etc. There is a "Classic Pub Fare" which serves a really generic list of British and Irish dishes that are supposed to make us feel cultured. Mmmm Fish and Chips! Shepherd's Pie! London Broil! I felt drawn to get one of these dishes as it at least makes an attempt to be different, but then again, British food is almost international renowned for being bad. The joke is that Chicken Tikka Masala is their national dish.
The London Broil wasn't bad. The meat was tender and the mashed potatoes were garlicy and there were some peas. But I'm sorry, no one should be paying these kind of prices for interchangeable amounts of mashed potatoes, chips, gravy, meat and more mashed potatoes! I can make that at home.
Oh and everyone walks around in either skirts or kilts. OHMYGAD IT'S LIKE BEING IN ENGLAND!!!! I'd feel sorry for the wait staff if they didn't seem so darn chipper. They probably get blitzed every night to dull the pain. And who can blame them.
If you come here, I would come to drink. And maybe after a few drinks you'll forget you are in a completely comical version of a British Pub catered to suburbanites who don't know better.
I sat here for a minute debating on whether or not to give this place 2 or 3 stars. Â Ultimately, I decided on 3 due to the vast selection of scotch and a pretty decent beer selection.
My friend and I were pretty excited to try this new restaurant before seeing a movie a few weeks ago. Â We went on a Sunday night and the place was pretty busy, being a new hot spot at Polaris. Â Our waitress came over to the table almost immediately and was very friendly. Â As we perused the beer menu, my friend had a question about one of the beers, wanting to know if it was a pale ale or an IPA. Â Our waitress did not know the answer to the question and sadly, neither did the bartender. Â We took our chances and ended up with IPA's, which my friend did like, and I did not care for.
The menu took a little longer to decide on, not because of too many choices, but lack thereof. Â It is a very small menu, typical of what I like to call "generic" Irish or British pubs. Â Our waitress had no clue about the construction of the Shepherd's Pie or what it even was! Â I had the portabello mushroom sandwich and had a very hard time eating it, as the mushrooms kept sliding out of the bread and all over the plate. Â It was just your average pub food, but with a much higher price tag. Â Nothing special.
The table we were seated at was weird. Â There was this, I don't know, thing? in the middle of the table, that would have made it VERY awkward for conversation had there been more than two of us. Â I couldn't see across the table. Â Now, I've been to England MANY times, and I've never seen a table like that in any pubs there. Â Yes, the staff is in plaid. Â I say plaid, and not tartan, since our waitress informed us that her skirt came from a well known clothing store and did not have any clan significance. Â We were given a weird look when we asked her. Â There IS a difference!
All in all, The Pub is okay. Â If I happen to be in the Polaris area again and nothing else strikes my fancy, I might head back here, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.
We landed here because my friend from this neighborhood said she wanted to check it out as it had only opened one month prior.
After journeying for 7 hours from Chicago with three other girls on a Friday, you can bet we were HUNGRY and THIRSTY by the time we got here. Â If you can't tell where this place is from the address, just park by the Cheesecake factory and walk through the plaza with the Cheesecake factory on your left, and then new Benihana on your right. Â This will lead you right to the Pub. Â
Great choice because the service was friendly, food was excellent!
We ordered the pub chips with two curries, deep fried pickles (which I hear is a Ohio thing? but they were YUMMY!). Â I had the roast beef sandwich and it was soooooo good. Â We also had the seared tuna dish with teriyaki sauce - the sauce was a little overwhelming but the tuna was SUPER fresh...
The ambiance is fun! Â Dark cherry woods and a giant painted British flag above the main bar will make you believe you're in the wrong country. Â Kilted staff - including the men! Â make this place a hot venue. Â (I wonder what they are wearing beneath?). Â There is also a big table to the left of the room, I like to call it a "King's Table" with giant chairs like thrones and a beer tap distributing 4-5 kinds of beer RIGHT AT THE TABLE. Â I think our generation is heading away from Fast Food and moving to Fast Booze. Â This is the second time this week that I have tapped tables!
Loved their great beer selection. Â Pricey for a pub - and I'm comparing it to Chicago prices.....
