Me and my wife go to Gettysburg every year and The Pub & Restaurant is a tradition for us. Â We started to go years back because of the Food & Atmosphere and Im pleased to report ... its still top notch!
This year I had The Pasta Alfredo and I have to say. Â IT WAS DELICIOUS! Â The sauce was creamy and utterly tasty. Â It was so good that after me and my wife were full ... we couldnt stop picking at it and trying it some more. Â We also had the nachos which were also good :)
A DEFINITE MUST GO
I really want to come back on a day that's not the 150th Battle Anniversary, because they were slammed. Â Ate lunch here, and our service was pretty bad, but the food was excellent. Â Servings are huge! Â We had the spinach crab dip that made the visit worth it by itself. Â I had the club which was piled higher than I could open my mouth. Â And if you were lucky to snag a parking spot close by, you're now well situated to explore more of downtown.
Review Source:During the 150th! The waitress was very nice. I had the cool veggie wrap which was great. My in laws had a Reuben and my hubby a grilled chicken sandwich. All the food was very good. I said my fries were a little on the cool side and the waitress Brandy brought me a double order. The carrot cake for dessert was huge! 3 people could eat it!
Review Source:I'm not sure why people are saying the food here is outrageously priced. Â The four of us thought it was a tad on the high side, but we changed our minds after seeing the quality of the food. Â It's smack on in my opinion, especially given their location location location!!
The wait was 30 minutes for the restaurant side, so we snagged the only open table in the bar. Â This was probably the way to go. Â It was CROWDED in there (did they cram more tables in for the 150th anniversary weekend or what?). The bartenders did try to keep up though. Â A few times did we have trouble with follow-through. Â That is what is keeping me from giving it 5 stars - the service did leave a lot to be desired. Â I rarely tip under 20%, but this time it was around 12% tip just because it was that bad at times. Â I'm willing to assume it was the absolute insanity of the weekend that contributed.
The food though - oh was it good. Â I could have bathed in the crab spinach dip in the toasted bread bowl. Â I really enjoyed the beer-battered french fries too. Â I also had a Texas Gutbuster cocktail. Â I have no idea why it has that name, as it reminded me absolutely nothing of Texas...but it was STRONG and GOOD. Â I admit I became rather tipsy on those. Â
This was a recommendation from a local, and he was right. Â Great portions, decent prices for the food and drinks, great ambiance, and great location. Â Just..work on your service, OK?
Good Pub Grub, what more can you ask for?!?! Â NEVER sit on the restaurant side, the service is S L O W and that's where the tourists are. Â Sit at a table on the bar side where the team of friendly roaming bartenders will take care of your every need. Â
Menu highlights are the pretzel twist app, any of their huge burgers, and their Tri Me sammy. Â Tomato bisque is my fave soup. Salads are all great, and their pretzel rolls are fantastic. Â Homemade chips are awesome. Â Cake slices are literally 5# each, be prepared to share.
Vey pricey for bar food, but what else would you expect with their awesome location smack dab in the center of a tourist town? Â Large selection of beers on tap, grab one and enjoy watching the world go by on the historic Lincoln Square.
We were seated and immediately our server, Veronica, was at our table ready to take our order. Â We could tell by watching her that she was very busy but did not make us feel rushed. Â She gave us some suggestions, took our order and was back quickly with our drinks. Â The food was great ... over all a nice experience.
Review Source:This review is for drinks only.
I've never eaten food at The Pub because the prices are too outrageous. Tuesday nights - cheap pitchers of Natty Light, and the crowd is an indication of this special. The Pub makes pretty/fancy drinks, but the several that I've had were just pricey and meh. I can't really say that I like this place. Last time I was in, they were doing some work on the kitchen when my friend and I were trying to enjoy our drinks, and it was so loud we couldn't hear each other across the table.
If you want to sit outside during the summer and people watch on the square while you eat dinner, though, this is probably one of the best places to do it. Just remember, everyone's watching you, too! :P
Great food, great service! Â We got there early for lunch on Sunday. Â We each ordered a specialty coffee and Dennis was quick to get them back to us. Â Spinach Feta soup was too thick for me, but my dining companion enjoyed it.
I had the wrap with chicken, feta, jalapenos, and spinach. Â Chicken was cooked but not dry, and the whole thing was yummy. Â He had the chorizo sliders and enjoyed them immensely.
All in all, a great meal. Â Thanks Dennis for great service, too!
On our recent visit to Gettysburg we had the pleasure of going to The Pub. Â It is kind of touristy, but we're tourists, so we did not mind. Â I actually found it to be more of a college hangout then a tourist spot. Â We sat on the bar side on a Friday night around 9:00 and were pretty much surrounded by college "kids." Â It was not a college dump by any means though! Â The food was delicious. Â My chorizo sliders were fantastic (they are spicy, you've been warned), my wife and her sister had reubens, and my brother in law had an American cheeseburger. Â We all had great food, great service, and, most importantly, a great time! Â Gettysburg is a fun little town. Â Head to the Pub if you want good food at a decent price while visiting there.
Review Source:Stopped in here for a beer and a bite a few weeks ago. Seemed like a fun atmosphere to hang around for a Saturday night in the bar, but we were planning to hop around and check a few places. Â Highly recommend the pretzel appetizer, delicious! Â You get a ton for just a few bucks. Â Great deal!
Review Source:We walked into the crowded bar with a big group and didn't know if they had enough room for us. But we got a few seats at the bar and as the seats and tables around us cleared we just took over. The bartenders were attentive and took care of us. They were a tad rushy but kept the bar clean and kept our tabs straight.
They have a decent selection on tap but I stuck to wine. We selected songs on the jute box and hung out until it sunk in we had to get up early the next morning :-) I love the little Fall display they had outside. Lots of hay barrels, mums and pumpkins!
I haven't spent a lot of time in the area, but I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent, and for the price, you get a good quantity and good quality.
I often build my own pasta and get linguine with Alfredo sauce piled high with broccoli. I've had the quesadillas, and the chili bread bowl soup & salad combo.
Their menu is extensive. I've gone with lots of different people, and no one's been disappointed. I'm sure next time I'm in the area, I'll go back.
We had an early dinner here on Monday, 15-Oct-2012, and found it very acceptable. Â I thought at first my wait-person might be impatient and not so helpful, but it turned around and proved to be a good experience.
We found the food very good (salmon; scallops) and the service entirely within reasonable bounds. Â Prices are normal for such an establishment.
We were fortunate in getting a window seat right on the circle, so we had a parade of activity to enjoy, or be distracted by, depending on your preferences. Â
We were in the restaurant section, and not the pub.
The Pub is very conveniently located right on Lincoln Square. Â With both a bar and restaurant, there is a lot of seating whether you want to sit at the bar for a drink, in the restaurant for dinner, or outside enjoying the square. Â It's usually very crowded with a good mix of all kinds of people - tourists, families, couples, and college students. Â Full bar, wide variety of food at a moderate price. Â But because they are always so busy, do not try to stay long after you've finished your dinner and drinks because they will all but shove you out the door after you've paid your bill.
Review Source:Overall, this establishment was the best in Gettysburg to enjoy a craft beer. They have multiple beers on tap (I'll estimate 10, but forgot exactly how many). In addition to their beer, they have a solid specialty cocktail menu to choose from. In general, their staff was polite, but initially our service was nearly non-existent.
The business has a dining room and a bar area. Â The bar is a straight bar seating around a dozen people. Behind the stools there are approximately 5 round tables for seating. Â Also in the area there is a golden tee, TouchTunes jukebox, and pinball machine. If the weather is nice enough, they offer outdoor seating at approximately 6 tables in the heart of downtown Gettysburg.
The menu here is extremely long and had advertisements for other businesses in it (Cheesecake Factory-esq), making it difficult to focus. Ultimately, we didn't end up ordering any food here.
When we first stopped, the wait time was extremely long to get our drink and we were never visited for another. However, we saw there was more to the story. Almost simultaneously management & staff were dealing with the termination of an employee and ejecting an unruly customer from the establishment with the help of the police (it was resolved without incident). This doesn't seem to be the norm for, but through a very difficult situation they managed although service was slow until they could resume a regular pace of business.
At first, I was ready to write a very poor review, but after understanding the situation taking place around us, I have to say the management and staff acted in the best interest of keeping this establishment with a clean reputation. In general, the crowd appears to be professional and responsible customer base, and we would return again on a trip to Gettysburg.
It may just be that we ordered the right things when we were here, but my boyfriend and I really enjoyed this restaurant. Â The mixed reviews don't really surprise me, though, because their menu is enormous and I have a hard time believing that they do all of those things really well. Â If you stick with ordering more standard bar fare, I think that you will find that they do a stand-up job here.
We actually went here twice during our stay--once for a very late dinner, and once for lunch. Â The first night, I ordered a salad, which came in a huge bowl included a surprise side of a fresh-baked pretzel. Â The salad was fresh and tasty, and the pretzel was an extremely pleasant surprise. Â My boyfriend had a sub sandwich and enjoyed it, though even he was quite overwhelmed by the portion size. The next day I had a soup and salad combination, which includes a bread bowl for the soup. Â I inquired if their soup of the day was vegetarian, and our server was very willing to go check for me. Â The spinach and feta soup was tasty, the salad again was solid, and the bread bowl was quite delicious. Â
We also ordered drinks from the bar on day two because we were nearing the end of our trip and wanted to celebrate. My boyfriend ordered a hurricane and got a quite impressive drink that seemed to pack quite a punch. Â I ordered a specialty coffee beverage, which was so yummy and quite a treat.
The service we had both days was excellent and very friendly, the appearance is fun and vibrant, and they serve good-quality food in large portions for a pretty reasonable price. Â We even liked it enough to go back during our short stay with plenty of other options available. Â I think that they do a nice job overall.
Good for beers and drinks, bad for food.
Just to note, I came with a group so I'm not sure if the food is better if you can order whatever you want. I had pasta and it was really terrible.
Service was great but for me, food is the most important thing so I'd look for something else in the area.
The in-laws live in Gettysburg and when we're looking for a solid meal....we go the The Pub. Highlights? Their pretzel rolls and garlic pretzel knots that they serve with salads and sandwiches. Both the fries and the homemade chips are amazing so it's always hard to decide between the two. Large beer selection and the menu is huge. Think Cheesecake Factory huge!! It usually takes us 20 minutes to figure out what we're going to order.
My mother-in-law is super picky about ordering plain salads with extra cheese. (She's super skinny...go figure.) Every time she special orders a salad here they've messed it up. I personally have never had trouble with my order though and I always look forward to eating here!
Two stars for the NY Strip steak and mashed potatoes, they were pretty good.
No stars for the sugar peas that were not edible.
No stars for not having a beverage menu that shows what kind of wine or beer they serve. I had to ask a few times so I could try and remember what our server was saying about what type of wine they had. Do not get Three Ships in the Wind (seriously, that is the name of the local red wine). Rusty piss water indeed.
On a lighter note, they had listed on the menu a New York Strip steak served with Hershey's chocolate sauce and Bleu cheese on top. What creature would eat such a thing?
We were hesitant, after having our id held hostage for the blinky-vibratey-wait-35-minutes-timer-thing, but we sat at the bar anyway, ready to wait on a busy Saturday night. Surprisingly, the blinky- thing started vibrating in less than 10 minutes, got the correct id back, and were seated at a small 2 top table. Hubby's request for a booth was denied, because they reserve them for 4 or more. Except there were 2 other couples seated after us, at booths. Whatever.
Spinach artichoke dip was good, though not completely hot, and took 20 limited to arrive. Dinner arrived less than 4 minutes after our app, so we asked them to hold it. As a result, hubbys burger wasn't hot.
Chicken caesar wrap was good, beer battered fries good, slaw good.
Service, okay not great. Never got refilled on water or drinks. Seems to have a lot of young people working, and was very busy.
2 words... AWESOME lunch. Â While checking out the menu, I noticed you could substitute the typical roll on your sandwich or burger for a pretzel roll. Â I was sold, so decided to give ye ole' Pub a try. Â Boy was this a good choice.
The meal was very good, but what really made the dining experience spectacular was the pretzel roll. Â Unbelievably tasty. Â If that's not enough, they also have waffle fries. Â Seriously - waffle fries are like a lost art form. Â Not enough restaurants serve them. Â No problems, here though. Â Waffle-up all you want.
I've had steaks and burgers at The Pub and both were great. Â We've probably been there 10 Time in the past 2 years and have never been disappointed. Â They also have a great beer selection on tap and by the bottle.
The only warning I have is don't order the Diablo pasta. Â Its ridiculously hot.
We went to this restaurant for dinner last week. The food was very good and the drinks even better! The only problem was our service. We chose to sit outside because it was nice out and the inside was crowded and noisy. We had to go inside and ask for our own menus after already asking the hostess if we could just sit outside and her reply was "sure someone will know you're out there and be with you shortly". Â It didn't get much better after that ... it seemed like the waitress had disappeared at the end of the meal and this was one of the few times I've been tempted to go in and ask where she was.
The apple spicer was very tasty and strong. Although I have to say they could serve it in a glass other than the neon orange plastic that it was served in. The spinach and artichoke dip was creamy and delicious, but it too came on a plastic tray. For dinner I had the stuffed chicken breast which was tasty but the filling was too rich for me. Â For a place that seems like it is trying to be upscale, it leaves me to wonder why they'd serve everything in/on plastic? Â I know we were outdoors, but I'm not a 5 year old!
We had a bad experience here after a great day at the Gettysburg National Military Park.
The restaurant is in a great location in the central square in Downtown Gettysburg. Â If you go at night bring your quarters as the parking meters run until 9:00 PM nightly.
The food was average to poor. Â We ordered a bruschetta for a starter. Â What came out was a flaverless goop of tomato and cheese on bread. Â I had a hamburger which was adequate. Â My wife had a salad with chicken breast, which featured somewhat wilted lettuce and a dry chicken breast which had the texture and flavor of food purchased pre-cooked and pre-packaged from a food supplier. Â
Worst of all was the service. Â Our waiter was inattentive and outright rude. Â He didn't greet us until ten minutes after we were seated. Â He didn't smile and made it seem like we were inconveniencing him. Â He was openly impatient with our questioning of several of the items on the menu (the place wasn't that busy) and didn't provide us with adequate explanations of some of the preparations. Â We had to flag him down to order our food and to get our check. Â I don't know if his disdain is reserved for tourists, but this is one of the worst restaurant service experiences I have had in a long while.
Based on my experience, I don't recommend the Pub & Restaurant in Gettysburg.
Pretty good really.
Maybe my expectations were low, because the places I wanted to go were closed. Then when I got the multi-page menu, and saw a full page of ads on every other page ... I figured for sure this was overpriced, underwhelming touron fare.
But wifey raved about her burger, and my buffalo chicken sandwich (dry rubbed, grilled, and topped with blue cheese and jalapenos) was pretty good. So were the fries and homemade potato chips. We're not regulars at pub-grub or deep-fryer type places, but I think we'd come here again. I think I'd even venture into the meal-sized salads next time, someone a table over had one and it looked like the real deal  ...
Its average. Â I stopped in early since I had skipped breakfast and I was seated right away. Â The menu is large and they had several different salads to choose from. Â I didn't see much of the regular pub fare like fish n chips. Â I ordered a burger that had mixed in Chirizzo sausage. Â (Not sure how to spell). Â
It was good and I was pleased with my meal but next time I would want to try another place in Gettysburg.
Friendly staff, convenient location, mostly decent drinks, but sub-par food even for a pub. Â
I got the spiced mulled cider with rum.  It was hot and spiked, but otherwise didn't have much going for it.  My partner got a pumpkin pie "cocktail" that turned out to be a big shot of mainly Goldschläger that was a definite disappointment.
For lunch, we got onion rings to nibble on while we waited. Â I had visions of flaky, deliciousness with sweet onions in between and a fantastic creole-type dip - onion rings have had a soft spot in my heart ever since I was a kid trying to finagle a piece of onion blossom from my dad at the county fair before he inhaled it all. Â But these onion rings arrived cold, dry and with flavorless mayo on the side. Â Not what I had in mind.
Our lunch was soup/chili in bread bowls with salad, which I thought would be do-able for the most basic of places. Â Unfortunately, the salad was a little slimy for my taste and the veggie chili pretty flavorless. Â The special soup of the day was decent, but even the bread bowls couldn't save the meal.
I'll maybe come back for drinks, but not food, at least until the said drinks make their impact felt!
A lesson to tourists: you don't come to the pub to eat. Â Unless you are eating in combination with massive quantities of alcohol.
This place has a sordid past. Â It's been near bankruptcy a few times, and burned down maybe 5 years ago. Â Rumor has it the owner torched the place for the insurance, and during excavation --cue scary music-- a body was found! GASP! Â These things don't happen in our town!
In any case...the food really is nothing special. Â The menu could give Leon Uris a run for his money in size and weight. Â But the preparation is uninspired. Â As the locals know, this is a place to drink, not to eat. Â And if you want drunk food, go to the Lincoln Diner down the street. Â It's cheap and greasy, but at least they're honest about it.
What self respecting "pub" DOES NOT serve fish & chips?!? Â This was my first clue that this place was going to be a disaster. Â
This place is the very definition of a tourist trap. Â My girlfriend and I went there for lunch on a Saturday. Â It was packed to the gills but we were seated within five minutes. Â
My girlfriend ordered a cup of their "spicy" chili, which was nothing to write home about and had absolutely no heat. Â Let's not forget that it costs $7!!!! Â We also ordered some of their "Spiced Fritz" chips which are made in house which came out under seasoned and over cooked to the point that they weren't golden, the chips were brown. Â Why would the cook even consider sending this out to someone??? Â Our waitress never brought out the ketchup that I had requested three times.
I ordered the "olde style" chicken sandwich with mushrooms and swiss which was greasy and terrible. Â There was a red grease oozing out of the sandwich and the cheese on top wasn't even melted, like they had just taken it out of the fridge and stuck it on my sandwich when it was en route to my table. Â There were also about three tiny little mushroom slivers on my sandwich. Â The waitress again didn't bring out something I had requested (side of mayo). Â
My girlfriend ordered a tuna sandwich and SPECIFICALLY asked for NO mayo. Â Well, it came out with a ton of mayo slathered on it, and it was on the incorrect bread. Â It took the waitress over 10 minutes to get her two slices of bread that she had requested. Â Does it really take that long???
I was so pissed off by this point that I didn't even want to touch my sandwich which was now cold. Â I didn't want to eat without my girlfriend so I waited. Â
To summarize my experience:
Service - Terrible
Food - Awful
Prices - OUTRAGEOUS!!!! Absolutely outrageous. Â
Avoid, go to one of the many other places around town.
The good:
1. My hamburger. It was cooked as ordered (rare), a decent size, and overall pretty tasty.
2. The warm apple cider drink spiked with Captain Morgan's that I had. Good combo.
The bad:
1. PRICES. This place defines overpriced. 10.50 for a measly burger? In freaking gettysburg? W-T-F? And nearly everything was at least 10 bucks. A total joke.
2. There was no lettuce, tomato, or anything else to put on the burger. Kinda ghetto.
3. I had apple sauce as my side dish. It was served cold. Boooo!
Service was average, although a little slow at one point.
If I were to return to Gettysburg, I definitely would skip this place and find somewhere cheaper. The prices simply do not reflect the quality of the food.
My friend that was along would have rated this a 1, so I'm being quite generous with my 2. Â (She actually made certain i didn't tip my 20%+ like I typically do, as the experience was so poor)
The atmosphere - The atmosphere was pretty much ruined by a large family at the table next door that had 2 screaming wild toddlers in tow. Â The demon spawn had a heck of a time wreaking havoc on the restaurant with their shrill tones and constant wandering away from the table and around the restaurant. Â
The food - My "well done" steak was pink in the middle and very fatty. Â My friend stated her burger was awful, and didn't take more than 2 bites of it. Â The only highlight (and the only reason this place is getting 2 stars instead of one) was the old-bay chips. Â mixed in with ranch dressing, they were quite good.... but again, they're chips, an appetizer!
The service - I understand that north of the mason-dixon line there's typically a bit more attitude than there is south of the line.... however, the service was quite slow and rather snippy and condescending. Â
Not a place I'd recommend. Â 1.5 stars. Â Oh, and watch out backing out of their parking spots. Â You back right into the traffic circle, which might put your life in jeopardy if you're not overly careful.
We honestly love eating here so much that my fiancee and I will sometimes make a day trip from Fairfax, VA (about 90mins away) just to have dinner. Â I can't say I've ever had a bad experience. Â My food has always been prepared just how I ordered it and everything on the menu is always delcious. Â The menu is also the size of a book so there's tons to choose from no matter what your mood is. Â Some things are over-priced like the nacho's, although they are not on the menu on-line anymore so maybe they realized that? Â I especially think their wings (with several different sauces to choose from) are excellent.
Some con's: There is almost always a wait because the place isn't very big and the service is a little slow. Â They have a clause on their menus saying that all of their food is prepared to a certain standard so if you don't like your meal they won't do anything for you, and I heard a story about an "attack manager" if you did have a complaint. Â Back to the nachos being over-priced -- we once got them (they were around $15, I believe) and it was this tiny little plate with a handful of soggy chips on it. Â We didn't eat them and asked the waitress to take them back. Â They weren't taken off the check, but we also weren't attacked by anybody... so we counted our blessings and didn't say anything :)
I can't vouch for "& Restaurant" because we only had drinks. Â The place seems to be trying too hard for a legitimate pub aesthetic. Â The blue paint was a little too thick and bright, and the gold/brass accents too shiny. Â Tone it down, guys. Â It looks like a bad Hollywood set, not a classic British pub.
I had to appreciate the modest beer selection. Â I could ignore the Yuengling and make my choices between Guinness, Smithwick's, Widmer's, some local IPA, and a few beers that I don't happen to like but enjoy good reputations (e.g. Sam Adams Summer, Blue Moon). Â
And these beers can be had for the lovely price of just four dollars. Â That's a hell of a deal on an import pint. Â My mom and dad ordered white wine and iced tea...$6.50 and $2, respectively. Â That was a bit perplexing.
Service was satisfactory from our male bartender, but would it kill any of these ladies to smile as we're coming or going?
