Great food, HUGE portions. Â Pork chop sandwiches and pasties are almost as good as my Irish grandma used to make (okay, probably just as good) and their sandwiches and burgers are great - as is their taco salad. Â
And it's always a good sign when the same people (non-owners) have worked there for 30+ years :) Â They remember my complicated combo sandwich order every time!
Super friendly and efficient staff. Â
Hands down my favorite lunch place - and the only "real" Irish pub in Billings. Â Great dinners, too. Â I am not sure why one reviewer here said they would hesitate to go there after dark - this part of downtown is no worse than Montana Ave or any other downtown restaurant locale.
I should really come here more often.
Rustic, downtown Billings restaurant. Â Nothing fancy. Â Bar food.... only better.
The bread used on the sandwiches I've yet to see in any other restaurant. Â It's simply delicious. Â
Order the HALF and share it. Â They're huge!! Â The menu is extensive and you can find it online.
Parking can be an issue. Â If you're going for lunch, go early and you'll park on the street right out front. Â If not there are plenty of places around with a short walk which you'll enjoy after gorging yourself on their huge platters of food.
The homemade chips are wonderful, crispy (never soggy) and seasoned just right.
The staff are the friendliest in town... REALLY! Â No moody teens working this place. Â All professionals who make you feel right at home. Â It's what you'd expect out of Billings, MT.
A couple of TV's placed so you can see a game that might be on.
Enjoy!!
Dinner last night at Pugs, Bill had the Shrimp Jambalaya and I had the Chicken Fajitas. Â We ordered thinking we would share some of each others, not so. Â We both loved our choices. Â Bill had a dark beer, which he loved and I had my ol standard, miller lite. Â But as we were celebrating Bill's Birthday, the waitress brought him an "irish kiss" . Â Ran into an old friend, this is a great local bar with super personality.
Review Source:Three words: pork chop sandwich. Â Or is that two words?
The rest of the menu is also great. Â You can't lose, but just do me a favor, this is your order: Â pork chop sandwich and a black and tan. Â They make their black and tan the right way, Harp and Guinnes from draft. Â The sandwich covers a plate, with house chips crammed under and around it. Â Sliced pickles and mayo complement the meal.
Don't eat pork? Â Eat this anyway. Â Just kidding, try the deviled egg sandwich. Â They also have a decent veggie sandwich if you are a vegan.
You will not leave hungry.
I used to frequent Pug's a lot. Â They make a mean breakfast on the weekends and do a nice job with pub food during the rest of the week.
They have a nice beer selection and the staff is wonderful. Â Don't worry about coming here at night, unlike some other bars in Billings (The Empire - RIP), I've never feared for my safety here.
My best friend used to be a big time regular here, so we'd get comped a lot of free drinks. Â Extra star for that, definitely!
I'm pretty sure I would be terrified to go to Pug Mahon's after about 5PM, as it makes no bones about being a dive bar AND is directly across the street from what must be Montana's oldest halfway house. Â For lunch though, it is packed with business men eating gigantic, delicious ass pork chop sandwiches, chili, clam chowder, and "bullet burgers." Â
I'm not sure whether the waitresses fake the irish accents to get bigger tips or what, but they are hella friendly and crazy efficient during the lunch rush. Â MMMMM Pork chop sandwich.
