If you are looking for a family friendly wing place with a jiffy lube decor, then bingo - Quaker Steak is what you've been looking for
I've been here several times and haven't had a bad experience expect for a couple of Saturday nights where MMA fights were blasting on the TVs. Â Wings are better and bigger than BW3 and some of the other foods aren't bad at all. Â
In the summertime, the outdoor bar section is a good experience. Â
This is about a good as it gets in Portage IN.
I'm still undecided on this chain but if you want interstate wings and need to stop and eat, you might as well try it. Â It wasn't all that bad. Â
Stopped in here Saturday on the way home from the D, starving we ordered nachos for the app. Â They arrived with some sort of white queso on them, hey alright, but the nachos were...small. Â Like a half order at a regular place. Â Totally not enough to share with four adults. Â
We ended up splitting a bucket of wings. Â One medium sauce and one with some sort of rub on them. Â They weren't bad. Â
Service was decent. Â She seemed kinda pushy at first wanting to get our order ASAP but if you never been there before its kinda extensive. Â
Another place crossed off the list between home and home.
After reading the other reviews, and being an optimist, I decided to try this place out. Service (Kristin) was not bad. She came back and asked if we needed anything. She was quick with the bill and came back to tell us it would be ready soon. As for the food, soup was ok (potato) , chili, my husband had, was more of a purée paste. I had the steak and tequila lime wings. They did not taste like the tequila lime wings I've had before. The kids had burgers, steak and wings. The burger was ordered well, and not pink, yet it was and the steak was overly salted. I would not say the best ever wings. I am partial To Hooters, the kids and hubby like BWW's. For an hour ride from my house, I would go to something closer for a great steak. the decor was what I would expect. Nice. Probably would not go back unless I was on a road trip and wanted to eat out in the area.
Review Source:I like it.
Fried pickles are delicious. Wings are great.
Service? Hit or miss. We've had wonderful service here and sometimes we've had weird service. That's how I'd describe it, at least. Weird. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Hmmm.
But I love a good hot wing, and they have them. Parmesan garlic are really delicious as well as their hot and medium. And they have decent drink specials. I always enjoy a good drink special.
I've ordered quite a few things from here, and they've all been good. Nothing amazing, but all very good.
Being that more often than not we've had great waitresses and never a bad food item, I am a fan. Hence the four stars. We will be back probably quite a few times this summer as it's right on our way home...
I also believe they deliver. What? Thank you for not making me drive to get wings!
We've driven past this place innumerable times on our drives to northwest Indiana and Michiana. And we both dig wings and "bar food", so we decided to hit it up and give it a try.
It's always funny for me, as someone who's lived in more cities and states with public smoking bans than without, to be asked which section we want. Nonsmoking, please.
So. This place is essentially a bar/wings joint with a garage theme. I would prefer not to sit under the Corvette hanging from the wall, thankyouverymuch, let's just admire the poster. The menu is full of wings, wings, wings, burgers, flatbreads, salads, and does include a few relatively healthy options (like grilled chicken strips paired with... broccoli?).
We started with the triple queso nachos or whatever they were called. The cheese sauce was the best part, although the toppings were decent. The pico was kind of sparse, no extra salsa or guacamole on the side.
Actually, I shouldn't say we "started" with them -- all of our food got brought out at the same time, with the vague apology from the waitress that they had "a new cook." Hmm.
My husband devoured his burger and fries, said they were good. I got "Philly Cheese steak flatbread," which had chopped steak bits, grilled onion, mushroom, red pepper, a vaguely garlicky sauce and provolone (I think?) cheese. On a pita-like bread.
It was pretty good, although I think they should call it something else (me and my Philly snobbery)... a large-ish portion but no side or anything.
The service was decent but not great; the food was good but not fantastic; all in all I would stop back here since it's on the route, but not a place I'd seek out.
So I went here when this place first opened and enjoyed them. They have unique decor with cool cars suspended from the ceiling and things. In the waiting area there are a few arcade style games and TVs in the floor as well as a decent bar area with TVs all around. I hadn't been here in a while but went recently with some friends. Man has this place gone down hill. The food was gross, our waitress was awful and the place was filthy. They use lawn chairs at the tables and those all looked like they hadn't been washed since it opened and the booth we were in felt sticky even on the seats and wood frame like it never gets wiped down. One of my friends just ordered soup and when our meals came out she had forgot it, we inquired about it and she rolled her eyes and walked away then took about 20 mins to bring it back at which point she slammed it down on the table and walked away. She never returned to fill our drinks and we had to hunt her down twice for a bill. It felt like eating at a bottom of the barrel truck stop. Not worth another try unless they do a major clean up and staff overhaul.
Review Source:Quaker Steak & Lube are lucky their wings taste so good because their service is HORRIBLE. I have been there many times and not once have I had great service, even decent for that matter. Their wings keep me coming back.
Once I sat in drive through while they looked for my food. The server thought it wasn't cooked yet. Only to find 15 mins later he found it in the warmer.
The atmosphere is pretty cool. The cars are fun to see hanging around.
All in all, get it to go through take out.

Given the fact that I've only gone during lunchtime, and most of the time only gotten the buffet, this is only a review of that.
The buffet is quite inconsistent with regard to the main attraction: Wings. Some days they're great! Some days they're not. Some days there's literally a handful of wings sitting in the bins to pick through. The last couple visits I actually had to wait for more wings to come out. THey would bring one dish full of one kind or something, but never seemed to catch up....
I like the random item on the buffet, thats great for mixing things up!
Overall it's pretty good.
Good wings but apparently they don't believe in quantity discounts as their pricing structure is all messed up. It's $7.99 for 10, $11.99 for 15 and $16.99 for 20 which is were it gets off. It costs $1 more for a basket of 20 then if you just order 2 separate orders of 10 for $7.99. It's also $28.99 for 30 but again 3 separate 10 piece orders would only be $24. This doesn't make any sense. This is the only place in the world that charges you more for buying more. Just order separately.
Plus our food was cold when we got it. I know it it was late night, but I'd appreciate some hot hot wings at least. Tasted like the wings were under a heat lamp all night then slapped with sauce.
Our waitress was nice though and agreed the pricing structure was F'd up.
Cool interior for car and motorcycle fanatics--extensive menu for those with a big appetite!
We had fried pickles and french fries with cheese, bacon and scallions for an appetizer. I am still thinking about those fries!!
The menu is huge and there's tons of options--everything basically fried and covered in sauce (take that how you will)
Lots of TV's everywhere (including the bathrooms) so it must be a good place to watch a game (or nascar race) and you won't miss a second if you have to go to the bathroom.
The waitress was so sweet--the wings were really spicy that my boyfriend got and he couldn't finish them...when she asked him why he said they were too spicy and she offered to go to her car to get him a Prilosec...so adorable!
I couldn't eat there a lot but it was a fun stop off of the highway!
Okay it's super cute inside...they have full size cars and motorbikes hanging from the ceiling....but they inflated the menu prices to pay for all that "cuteness"....our bill for 2 adult lunches with pop and 1 beer with an onion ring appitizer and a kids meal was just under $40. My husband took us their for lunch...the food was okay...I had the chicken wrap...I didn't like that it had carrots, they just didn't seem to fit the flavor of the wrap...and they used the whole grain tortilla...which never tastes good...it also had celery..which I wasn't fond of either...I ate half and boxed the rest. Â It came with a handful of fries and for like $7.50 (pop was additional) I was expecting more...I wanted to flavors to come together instead of...why are their crunchy carrots and celery in my wrap?? Â My son loved the fries...I thought they were to salty..his chicken fingers were good though...(figures)...they used real chicken breast in the "fingers"...and he loved the "bendi" straws. Â I think it would be fun to meet up for drinks and an appitizer...we had the onion rings with ranch sauce and they were great...but as for a meal...I think I'll stick to the finger food!
Review Source:My wife and I came here for lunch and I can tell you that the wings I ordered were decent sized but as usual they give you more wingettes than drummies. They had no seasoned flavoring sprinkled on them before they fried them so they were very plain. I didn't have that WOW! sensation when I ate the wings. As a matter of fact I ordered 10 wings and only ate 5 of them. I was disapointed with the flavor of the wings. Â The sauce was OK I guess, but I believe BW3's wing are more flavorful than QS and Lube. Everything was a little pricy and the waitress was a little rushy with us so she didn't get much of a tip. Overall the only way I will go back is if I go with the guys from work for some beers after work. I wont eat there anymore with my family. If I want wings, I'll hit BW3's instead. Later alligator!
Review Source:I should have waited to eat. But I have seen this place many times since it went up and was a little curious. I sat under a new Corvette and it did not leak. Woo Hoo for the Labor Union a raise! I had the wings and they were pretty bad. Yes they have about 20 flavors. But I tried ordering the mild with ranch and my waitress brought me ranch flavored wings. Yik! The whole place gave off this cheap vibe with the cars hanging off of the walls and tin decor. Spend the money on the food. I can see cars all day long on the road for free.
Review Source:Finally stopped in with my husband and 4 year-old since we had a craving for burgers and wings. Â We waited about 10 minutes to be seated when we were told about 30-35 minutes (not bad!).
Nothing personal, but the hostesses or young teenagers in charge at the front could use a dose of communication skills. Â They seemed to be really bored of their job and when our pager number was called out, the girl who was to take us to our table did not make that known. So we stood there for a while wondering what was going on. Â Finally, the other girl signaled us to follow the young lady who was just staring at us I guess annoyed that we didn't assume she was going to take us to our table. Â A big turn-off. Â
Thankfully, our waitress was super nice, bubbly, and attentive. Â We ordered wings with their HOT sauce and well expected them to be much spicier, but they were still good. Â My husband and I ordered burgers and thought they were ok. Â I ordered the coleslaw on the side and it was enjoyable. Â I stole some of my son's fries and they were much better than BW3's fries. Â They also have a great beer selection, since they now serve 3 Floyd's beers!!
The restaurant was packed (as should be expected ), on a Saturday night. Â It's a good place to come with a large group and even kids, since they get their meals in a cute little paper race car type of container.
new wings? you're buying lunch? Â oh ok sure i'll go along :-)
a saturday afternoon at Bass Pro Shop was not the first thing i had wanted to do, but my aunt didn't want to either.....and i felt sorry she was being dragged thier by my uncle so with an offer of free wings :-) Â i went to keep her company while he looked at shiny boats, bullets and bass things......
Quaker Steak & Lube located just around the corner was the place i wanted to be and after an hour or so we were there....walking in was kind of a maze....no hostess and not sure where the hell we were going.....finally someone showed up and we decided to sit in the bar area..... if you like, or love cars, this place is for you because they are everywhere.....even hanging from the ceiling...( is that right? Â lets see, i before e ?? Â oh never mind )
water and menus brought out quickly.....but i knew what i wanted and it was wings.....but checking the menu lots to offer...we started by sharing an order of fried pickles....and love fried pickels and these were did not dissapoint....not the usual slices breaded and fried...these were wedges...fried perfect and had more of a pickle flavor than any i have had before....
i guess my aunt and uncle felt like bikers this day becaise she ordered the *biker chick salad* Â ..... was loaded with orange sections, pineapple strawberries pecans and boneless chicken strips...with a poppyseed dressing she said it was really good.....Unc got his billy biker burger or something like that, basically a bacon cheeseburger, but it was cooked perfect and at 1/2 lb was more than enough for me to steal a few bites from :-) Â served with your choice of about 5 different sides, from fries to steamed broccoli.....he got fries they wer ok nothing special......
and now to ME :-)  of course i had to go with the wings....i went with the supersize single order which is 12 jumbo wings and when they say jumbo they mean it,  holy crap these wings are freaking huge.....very light breading and covered with sauce.....blu cheese  and celery sticks come with or you can choose carrots sticks.....i went with 2 different sauces.....Hot...which was pretty good, not super hot but not a wimpy hot either with a decent flavor, and the Garlic....full of garlic flavor and swimming in butter :-)  i would say the garlic was much more my fave of the two.....one drawback they charged us 99c for having 2 sauces in one order....i thought that was pretty lame.....
enough food to stuff ourselves at lunch and bring some home too....trust me those wings are big....BW3's wings would run scared if they gotta look at these suckers......
they have a full bar but we just went with pop, free refils which is always nice.....the place was super clean, we had really good and friendly service.....big screen tvs all over the place so if your comming to watch sports you wont miss any action, even when you go to the bathroom because there are tvs in them as well :-)
if i lived closer i would come back often but its a little out in the middle of nowhere for me.....but if your headed out to Bass Pro Shops or a day at the Dunes stop in, i think you will like it
I wish I could give separate ratings for the food and the service. Â On food, this place is a solid 5. Â Service however, I am not even sure I could in good faith give it a 2...it was definitely of the 1 variety. Â
I came here with my boyfriend and a good chunk of his extended family. Â I should also mention that we came here specifically for their allergy friendly menu as many members of his family have a serious gluten allergy. When we arrived, we were seated right away, and then it all went downhill. Â The table was sticky and covered in wing sauce. Â When we asked for it to be cleaned (three times) we got no response. Â Then our waiter took our drink order, he messed it up. Â Then we waited 20 minutes, he finally brought our waters and teas (Not even liquor). Â Then we sat...and sat...and sat some more. Â A table that was seated 20 minutes after us got their food, we still sat.
Finally, we caught someone's attention and asked for the manager. Â She came over, cleaned our table, and apparently gave our waiter a swift kick in the ass, because we FINALLY got to order. Â Then he came and wiped our table (after the manager had done it), then we got our wings, and they were delicious.
The menu is vast and has an amazing variety of wings. Â They are goopy and hot and sweet and spicy and flavorful. Â They had a huge list of options as well. Â Everything from mild to atomic. Â I mean, even Man v. Food said this place was great. Â Seriously, the food is excellent, but Adam didn't have to deal with the crappy service on his show. Â
Finally, after we indulged on the wings we waited well over an hour for, we then had to wait a half hour for our check. Â I mean seriously. Â And even with the complaints to the manager and the seemingly genuine apologies, they didn't even comp us an appetizer while we waited for our food. I have never been treated so poorly in a chain restaurant. Â
So order these wings to go...trust me, you don't want to waste your time at the restaurant.
I had heard of this place from my fiancee before it actually came to NW Indiana. Apparently there were already locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania that he had known of. It sounded awesome--all those wings flavors! I was thrilled when I was finally able to go.
I'm not a racing fan, but I still think the decor is pretty cool. There's parts of cars hanging from the ceiling, fake gas pumps, etc...Also, lots of very nice TVs...I've come here when the Cubs were playing and liked that I didn't miss any of the action when I got up the use the restroom--there's TVs in the bathrooms too!
I always overeat when I'm here, and for a decent price too! I usually get the wings and pretzels combo...The beer cheese for the pretzels is top-notch! I've had the onion rings too, and they breading make it. Very crisp, almost like ground corn flakes! I play around with the wing sauces each time...I stay away from the Atomic but have been known to enjoy Buckeye BBQ, Thai "R" Cracker, Golden Garlic, Arizona Ranch, and Louisiana Lickers. Each has it's own unique flavor and heat factor. It's fun to experiment, and I love having options! Every time I've gone, the service has been great, too. And they give Twizzlers with the moisty-naps at the end. Sweet!
Luckily I don't live tooooo close-by. Otherwise I'd eat here a lot more often, and might end up with a weight problem!
the wings were good: i got the buckeye bbq ones which were hot enough for me yet still had enough flavor. mango lemonade was a bit too sweet for me but whatevs you're not here for the lemonade damnit you're here for the wings. wish they were not understaffed but hey servers do what they can to battle the madness that is the 4th of july weekend. i got my order in relatively quickly.
Review Source:In all honesty, the name "Quaker Steak and Lube" does not conjure up thoughts of mouth watering food. When my sister mentioned this place all I could think about was being under a car, draining dirty oil, and changing an air filter.
But this place has some awesome buffalo wings. Â The sauce is great too! This resteraunt has actual racing cars mounted from the wall and ceiling. It's like a racing museum with food. As wierd as all this may sound the company actually made it work. I'll go back again next time I'm around these parts.
If you love hot wings and racing, then you'll definitely enjoy
this place. I've been here a few times and finally found a
great sauce for my wings, Arizona ranch. Yummy!!
The appetizer sample was delish too, deep fried pickles
(I actually liked it), onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and the
pretzels were awesome. My hubby and his friend had a huge
32 oz. glass of some kind of beer, make that 2 glasses. Wow!! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â We'll definitely be back.
