So I went the other day on recommendation of some friends. Â I will admit that the coleslaw and hashbrown casserole was delicious! Â However, I ordered the grilled shrimp and they were a bit tough and over-seasoned, in my opinion. Â The rolls and cornbread they give you at the beginning are to die for, however. Â My main complaint here is that it was rather warm and humid in the restaurant which makes me not hungry and kind of irritated. Â The prices are OK, but it was near $40 for my husband and I to eat there and I would have been better off spending that much cash eating at Last Resort or something.
I would probably go back just to try some of their desserts. Â They had around 10 or so different pies and cakes that sounded amazing. Â Hopefully they have the air cranked next time.
What's not to like about Rachel's (other than the thunder thighs one will have with a steady diet of her food)? Â Rachel's does southern cookin' proud! Â I'm from Chicago and go about once a year during my southern sojourn, but my parents go EVERY Sunday and sometimes in between.
Yeah, it's not in a swanky setting with background music -- just a steady hum of chattering customers and friendly southern banter between the servers and the guests. Â Yeah, it's in a strip mall. Â BUT go there! Â Try the fried chicken, the veggies, and most of all, the Hershey's cake.
