I've had many Monte Cristo sandwiches since I had my first one here, this one still tops them all.  Monstrous.  You will not be able to finish this one sitting.

A staple in downtown Annapolis with a great micro-brewed beer as well.  I'm not really a fan of bar food, but their menu is really diverse and portions are pretty huge.  An app each and an order of their awesome nachos will feed a group for sure.  It's certainly a must-stop for any bar crawl with one of the best patios on West St. and don't forget about the super dark basement if you want a little more privacy.  A great place for a group and a stop on the haunted tours.  I'm a fan.

This is about the sound system which simply didn't hold up with Johnny Winter's high velocity, high energy program. The bass literally collapsed into a muddy chaotic nuisance of a sound making it very hard to discern any subtlety to the music. Other than that I love the Ramshead.

I have gone to a lot of shows over the years and now that I'm older, and I hope wiser, and more mellow, I really appreciate smaller, more intimate settings for music.  I especially enjoy acoustic music and Ramshead really shines in that area as I think they get a great variety of acts and the seats are all pretty decent.  In addition, the service is excellent and they offer both food and drink options throughout the show which the servers manage to get to you without disrupting the performances.  The food is your basic Naptown pub grub, nothing amazing, but certainly respectable.  You can also pick the seats by buying tickets online before you go, which is not always the case for smaller type venues.

I went to Rams Head on Stage with a party of four to the Gin Blossoms early show on 1/15/13. The acoustics were great, but it was smaller than I thought with the seats and tables right on top of each other. There were several poles throughout the space that might conflict with the view here and there, but my group did not experience that problem.

The show started at 6pm and the late show didn't start until 9pm, so I expected at least a two-hour show. The show barely made it to the one-hour, 10-minute mark. (The Gin Blossoms were obviously annoyed at the short time slot given.) I never would have paid $54 for that short of a concert.

The main reason for my one-star rating is for the sheer lack of customer service. We arrived 15 minutes early so that we would have plenty of time to order dinner. I asked the woman who seated us if we could have a menu. She replied that she was the hostess and not a waitress. My mistake, I assumed that since she worked there, she could bring over a menu or ask a waitress to do so.

A waiter finally came 30 minutes after we arrived and took our drink orders. I asked for a menu. Twenty minutes later, he returned with our drinks, but no menu. I asked again. Thirty minutes later he returned and asked if we had received a menu. At this point, I assumed the show was already half over (though soon realized it actually more than half way over, with only ten minutes left) and told him it was too late at this point to order. He agreed and left.

The only thing the waiter was prompt about was bringing the bill for our drinks. He put everyone at our table on one bill, even though it was a table of six and we did not know the other party at our table. The other party did not have cash, so we just left them with more than enough cash and got out of there. I was starving!

Rams Head on Stage advertises that you can enjoy dinner and drinks during their early show. This is impossible if you don't have a menu and the waiter doesn't take your order until the show is almost over. Everyone was ushered out right after the Gin Blossoms left the stage. Had the waiter actually brought me a menu with our drinks, it still wouldn't have been enough time to order the food and enjoy it before the show was over! As we were leaving, any tables that did manage to order dinner had to scarf it down. Not my idea of a nice evening of dinner and music.

For anyone who doubts the versatility and originality of this incredible venue on Wednesday October 17th the amazing North African Touareg band Tinariwen will be performing. they are musicians with a rare and compelling mix of  traditional desert lyrics, rhythm and melody similar to Algerian and Moroccan music. Tinariwen sing and play of protest, peace, rebellion,  fire, rain, and the wandering of their desert people. While they spin folk tales old and new and sing of ritual, celebration and hope for their land in the future they still are able to fuse traditional and modern North African music into an amazing eclectic mix. They seldom tour America and this performance will be a must for all those who love to cross cultural musical lines. Be there this will be an exceptional evening! Only Ram's Head in Annapolis would present this show - bless them for their originality -don't miss this!

I've been attending shows here for years. The Owners have ruined the Show area by jamming as many tables and chairs as legally possible.  It's no longer an intimate venue. That is if you like sitting in cramped spaces. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.

Great venue, great shows.  Can't be beat for live music.

Warning, do not use your debit card.  We narrowed Ram's Head to possibly one of three places our debit card number was lifted and used to steal $300 at a Rite Aid in Capitol Heights.

I LOVE this venue.  It's located in Annapolis and retains a lot of the charm of the city.

This is a very intimate venue and so it works well with solo and acoustic acts.  You can pick the seats where you sit at so if you buy tickets early in advance, you can score some great seats (I once got the table literally in front of the stage, which was pretty awesome).

In addition, as you sit at your table, servers come around to ask for your drink or food order.  You'd think that since they walk around during the performance that it'd affect the show, but they've got the serving thing down. You hardly notice them as they're very discrete.  The food and drink is solid, though nothing special.

Sound is pretty solid.  Nothing to complain about here.

Definitely a great venue and I'll be sure to come back.

Nice venue. A bit cramped but, the seating allows for you to see the stage pretty well from any angle. We saw Bootsy Collins there recently (Bootsy actually came out to the audience and tried to get close to everyone/hence a small venue has it's benefits)and have seen Johnny Winter there as well. Going back in September to see Crack the Sky

Just saw Edwin McCain here last night...amazing music and very good service.  My only recommendation would be to get seats as close to the stage as possible, and definitely not anywhere near the doors; otherwise you end up having the wait staff and anyone who wants to use the bathroom walking in front of you every 30 seconds, and it ends up being really distracting in what would otherwise be a very intimate music venue.

This is a great venue for small shows and acts. I really like that no matter where you sit, you've still got a great view of the stage.

Food wise - the Ram's Head restaurant is pretty solid. It's nothing spectacular, but it's not bad either. Truthfully, there are better places to grab a bite to eat within walking distance, but they do offer a 10% discount on your meal if you're eating there and are waiting to see a show.

I had the Shrimp Po-Boy, which is a bit different than what I am accustomed to from down along the Gulf Coast, but it was still pretty tasty. I think the shrimp could have used a bit more seasoning and they really loaded the sandwich down with a lot of cheese, which I wasn't all that thrilled about.

You can't beat the outdoor patio seating though in the summertime.

For live music, you really can't get any better than Rams Head.  I've been there several times, and although have often had seats that weren't really close to the stage, I've never really had a bad seat.  They have a wide range of acts from comedy performers to local artists to national recording stars, and ticket prices vary just as widely.  Most performances are 21 & up, but some are "any age matinee" performances...just be sure to check before you buy ticketes for anyone under 21.  Last night I was front and center for Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and although my ears are still ringing, it was the best show I've seen there yet!

But I'm not here to review the act, so on to Rams Head.  If you buy tickets to a show, you automatically get their "concert package", which gives you 10% off your dinner, discounted parking, and a free beer if you want to have dinner either before or after the show....reservations ARE required for this, so don't walk in expecting to get the discount.   The box office is easily accessible, and with their online ticketing you can skip the box office altogether if you want to.  Friendly staff escort you to your table, and the servers come around to get your order pretty quickly IF you're one of the earlier ones to be seated.  But if you come close to show time, be prepared for a wait.

They offer a limited menu of food but have a somewhat decent wine/beer list.  The food is OK, nothing stellar, reasonably priced, but you don't really come to the On-Stage side for the food anyway.

For this particular performance (which sold out for both nights), they added some extra seating which made things a bit more crowded than I would have liked.  I also think they needed to ramp up their staffing knowing how busy they would be, as the servers were swamped and really unable to keep up well with the demand.  They weren't able to check back to see if you needed anything, it was hard to get their attention when you did want them, and it took a long time for them to return with your order once the show got started.   Not their fault....just not enough of them.

But all in all, Rams Head is still one of my favorite places to go for live music, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice idea for date night, a girls night out, or even a solo evening for some great music.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this venue... and from the second I walked in and found my way to my table, somewhat in the back corner... I wasn't disappointed!
as the other reviewers have stated... there is not a bad seat in the house.. small intimate venues such as this are the absolute best for live music.. making your experience much more memorable... as you're able to connect with the performers since you are in close proximity..
I ordered an appetizer, a cocktail and dessert...   all of which were decent.. nothing to rave rave rave about but good... and satisfying... all in all you're here for the music.. the fact that they offer dinner with shows is a plus...
I wouldn't hesitate to return to Rams Head on Stage....  buy tickets early.. they sell out fast!

This was my first visit to Ram's Head On Stage, which is a dinner-theater (supper club) type venue next door (and attached) to Ram's Head Tavern. We parked about a block away in a pay lot and had lunch at the Tavern before the show, which has a cozy brew-pub feel to it, but the food was only so-so. The venue itself holds about 300 people all seated at 2 to 6 top tables. There is food and beverage waiter service at the tables. The stage is large for the space and projects into the room so that 2 sides face the audience - the tables are configured in an "L" shape around it. I recommend getting tickets facing the long side of the stage, even if you are several rows back, because they set up the performers to face the long side and the performers don't always remember the people facing the short side of the stage. The decor and bathrooms are both nice - this is the kind of place a grown-up crowd would especially appreciate. Acoustics are really good, and the sound was level was comfortable. The ceiling is lower than I would prefer, but not unusually so.

    UPDATE:

I received a call from the General Manager of Ram's Head in response to my review below.  He could not have been nicer or more understanding and I appreciated the call.  One word to the wise- -managers at the club are definitely instructed to apply the 21+ policy across the board without exceptions.  The General Manager did assure me, however, that he would speak to this manager about how she handled our situation and that the club would seek to be more sensitive in how they handle them in the future.  In all, I believe the club was very responsive to my complaint and I will certainly consider attending shows there in the future.

    - - - - - - - - -

Will get two things out of the way.  First, this is a lovely and intimate venue and, once admitted, I have found that the concert experience, including service, etc., can be wonderful.  Second, what happened to me happened because I screwed up - - I bought four tickets for a show last night late last year and, due to a change in plans, arrived at the venue with my under-age (15) year old son in violation of the venue's 21+ policy for evening shows.  My problem is not with the policy or or with how clearly it is communicated on the website, etc. - - it is with how horribly my family was treated by the manager on duty when our error was discovered.

The tickets were purchased for my (21+) daughter as a gift and we made an evening of it, driving from Alexandria, VA to pick her up in the District then driving to dinner in Annapolis followed by the show.  When we walked into the (awfully empty-looking) venue 30 minutes after "doors," we were immediately denied entry due to my son's being under-age (note, I don't believe this is a limitation imposed by the club's license, as they also host "all ages matinees at which alcohol is served).  When a young, female manager walked up, I explained our situation, that we'd recently attended a matinee show in which we were all admitted, that we're accustomed to all ages policies at DC-Baltimore area venues, that we had come a great distance, etc., hoping for her to show some flexibility, some creativity (oh so sorry, can I suggest your son and one of you sit in the restaurant and listen from outside, we'd be happy to offer dessert, coffee...ANYthing), some common humanity.  Nothing....aside from a stone-faced repetition that the 21+ policy is well-communicated and that my son cannot enter the club.  After trying (without getting angry, or at least outwardly angry, I swear) to get her to make an exception (to what from I can gather is a policy simply intended to create a civilized, adult atmosphere without disruptive youth in the room and not a legal requirement) and getting only a dull-eyed stare for my efforts, I asked (knowing I was digging myself deeper) for a refund (we'd paid over $100 for the tickets).  And of course the response was a rote repetition of what I KNEW from having seen it online is a "sorry sir, all sales are final, there will be no refund."  I asked whether there was someone else I could speak to- -she responded only that I was free to speak with the box office the next morning.

I'm not sure it was reasonable for me to expect an accomodation in this situation- -the policies are what they are and they are plainly communicated.  I think what it was reasonable for me to expect was to be treated with some sensitivity, some respect, and some empathy by management.  Even if all I received from this person was a "I'm awfully sorry that this happened sir, I know your family has traveled a long way and this must be very difficult and awkward for you let me offer you dessert and an invitation to join us at a future show."  Instead of kind and empathetic customer service what I received was cold, unyielding and condescending customer service.  And THAT treatment is what earns this review and a pledge not to darken the door of any Ram's Head establishment as long as I live.

THE BEST PLACE TO WATCH MUSIC IN MARYLAND!!!!! Talk about getting to hear music as it is supposed to be heard.  This is a small venue with tables and as close to the stage as 2 feet.  Not a bad seat in the house.

As for food, Monday night lobster night is a great deal.  I have seen over 30 shows and eaten almost everything on the menu, and can honestly say that I have never eaten anything that was not very delicious.

Everybody already knows this a great place to see a live act. I'm writing a review simply because the food impressed me (and food at these types of places is usually a second thought). We saw the Seldom Scene here recently and ordered the roasted red pepper humus with fresh veggies and pita. The humus was outstanding (a great big portion too) and the veggies super fresh. A very pleasant surprise. The one order was more than enough for two to share for a light snack during the show. I do wish they had a more affordable beer pitcher option but since all of their beers are craft brews that's the way that goes.

Talk about intimate...I was sitting literally less than 15 feet from the performer.  My waiter told me we were at the "Manager's Table".  At first I thought it would be hard to watch the show with the table being perpendicular to the stage, but I adjusted my seat without obstructing others and was good to go.

The sound was great. Both the warm up act and the headliner, Duncan Sheik, gave excellent performances. The place was larger than I expected, but no one was seated in the back areas; everyone at this afternoon show had an excellent seat.

The menu had a good amount of variety.  I had a bowl of cream of crab soup which was good, but very thick.  And I like my creamed soups to be thick, but this was overly thick with a fair amount of crab.

Service was top notch.  At a show you don't want service folks getting in your way.  All the servers I saw (including mine) visited their tables just the right amount of times.  I ended  with a spiked hot chocolate.

Annapolis isn't really that far to travel from DC to see a good show.  Street parking is easy in the afternoon.

There is a lot of things happening at Rams Head On Stage, a bar, a dining room and a venue. All of which are very favorable and can keep you coming back for more.

There is a outdoor section, which is heated during the winter, and offer's food and beer on their out door patio. I have been served out here with no issues, and found it relaxing to sit with friends outside and have a few on a winters night. Best part was the lamps made the whole thing possible and weren't in the way or too hot.

As for the indoor bar, and dining room, you may want to make sure you chose the right time to stop by. Happy Hour from 4pm until 7pm, makes the entire front bar and dining room packed. Add a upcoming show, a sport's game, and this place is nearly impossible to navigate.

Food here is good, and one of the reasons i recommend a visit. Fordham, ales were brewed here before Rams Head expanded, so your decor is of a old brewer tank, lines from the tank and brick with hard wood floors. All dimly lite and mood set by the weather and time of the day, from the large historic view from West Street.

Back to the food, I had ordered their, "southern style homemade chicken tenders," which ended up being hand breaded, deep fried and served with fries. I can say they were average, fries were we accompanied by fresh crushed black pepper and salt, and the breading on the tenders was light and made the dish enjoyable. What really hit home for me was the honey mustard, house made and served, this was a must for my tenders. My girlfriend ended up getting a seafood pasta, listed as a fresh caught special at the time, the dish included mussels, shrimp, calamari, over pasta in a light lemon sauce. I tired the dish and can assure you it was good, and all i got to snag was a little calamari, and wanted a lot more!

As for my service, it's okay. I wasn't expecting a lot in the food department, but was pleasantly surprised by the experience, as for the customer service,  it was fair. I was treated right, sat quickly, tended to when i needed a new beer or something else, I really have no complaints.

I would lastly recommend a visit, if your in the area, or if you are pre-planing to see your favorite acts, a visit is highly recommended!

    - Small Venue - generally music here is a lot more intimate, unlike Rams Head Live, On Stage brings you into a more relaxed and intimate experiment to enjoy your artist, or show.
    - Outdoor seating year round
    - Full Bar - open until 1:30a - Fordham Ales, and a few other Microbreweries from the area are on tap, ie: Old Dominion stout.
    - Excellent selection on Menu, Kitchen is with-in eye sight of indoor dining room and you can easily see how much effort they put into their dishes ; ps. It's a lot!
    - <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftickets.ramsheadonstage.com&s=2b24918302d12977573afea7ae8fdd43092be246cab22f4954f3cba3c8f2a4f4" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://tickets.ramsheado…</a> for tickets, up coming shows, and all other directions. We came to see Tank for a late-night Friday performance.

The pros: Small venue = intimate performance... awesome. Ticket prices are reasonable because its such an intimate performance. They had small bites and alcohol drinks to order during the show. We ate dinner before we arrived, but I found out you can get 10% off food at the Rams Head Tavern next door and free parking if you make reservations before the show.

The cons: This place was way smaller than I thought... yes its a pro and a con. If its your first time ordering tickets... the "elevated/raised section" is literally take a step up and ...BAM you've arrived.  Seating is by tables, so you will sit with people you don't know if your party is smaller than the number of seats at your table... *fingers crossed that you get friendly table partners. We did! Try to get there early and order your drinks and bites BEFORE the show starts... once everyone is seated it just gets hectic and service is slow. This venue takes advantage of space... so its a tight fit, and a waiter may block your view for a second, but its not unbearable.

*in my Terminator voice....* I"LL BE BACK!!

Tonight I went to Rams Head on Stage in Annapolis for the first time and was quite pleased with the atmosphere.  I was there with my husband to see Tank perform (great show!) and wasn't expecting the venue to be so perfect in size - adequate enough to fit a few hundred people, but not huge and overbearing.  It made for a supremely intimate show, which is key is you are listening to great R&B.
It struck me, though, as I was sitting there at that any music would sound good in the place.  The acoustics were great and the stage was right up close to the floor.  The servers were discrete as they made their way in between chairs and tables to serve people during the performance and the food itself smelled fantastic (The quesadillas especially were ooey, gooey goodness) and all the menu items and drink specials were fairly priced and affordable. Nothing hoighty toighty, but good old American cuisine (and a few specialty veggie options as well for all you veg-heads!).
I would go back to this Rams Head in a heartbeat.  It's the perfect place for a date night and downtown Annapolis is adorable!  Do yourself a favor, check the listings, and catch a show.  Many of the artists coming within the next couple months are Grammy-nominated like Tank, so it's really a treat to see them at a smaller venue like Rams Head on Stage!

I went to Rams Head recently for a concert. The concert was great and the food was good. I thought the ticket prices were high, and can't believe they charged to print out your own ticket (that's a racket). I agree with an earlier review that said the service was bad.  I'm pretty big on customer service and overall it was just OK, I have had much better. The bartender was just silly (in a rude way).

Come to the Rams Head On Stage in Ammapolis MD for good old fashion American food and brew.  But make a mad dash for their LIVE MUSIC entertainment, especially the special shows during the holidays.

Only world-class performers play in this venue.  I already have my holiday tickets for the December 3rd Great Musical Journey concert - Home for Holidays.

This is a truly special Rams head On Stage concert trio - Acoustic Alchemy bassist Gary Grainger,  former Latin Peaches of Peaches & Herb, soulful sensation, Meritxell (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.latinqueenofsoul.com&s=c12f6e6a3f0c21bb43bef93bfaaadeec105552bafbe8ba8c7994ae6cfa5fc27b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.latinqueenofs…</a>), and Smooth Sax man Jaared.  I'm ecstatic that I was able to get early front seats to see these amazing musicians play their fiery Jazz-Latin-World-Pop-Neo Soul fusion.

Just caught Los Lobos here the other night, I've been back several times in recent years (for Ryan Bingham, Cracker, etc.). I drive 65 miles each way, that ought to say something! These folks do a good business, in a premier location. After multiple visits, I've finally learned to buy seats back near the sound-board. The sound-board area is surrounded by brass rails, and it's slightly less-loud. Obviously, front tix would be nice, but I swear they've got season-pass holders or something.. They're never available! I've been off on the far-right wall, literally behind the performers (just to the left of the stage), etc. If you're seated in front, or near the sound-board, you're in for an intimate, great show. Anything else can be frustrating. The staff is quick and attentive, and will bring food and drink to your table. There's a parking garage within short walking distance (just $3 at night), you can cut between the buildings to save a walk-around.

Great little place to see your favorite live entertainment. 21 and over venue.

My only complaint is that the way the room is set up, the stage has seating not only in front of it but (if you're on the stage) 90 degrees to the right as well, which means you have to sit sideways on your seat if you're in that area and you won't have the performer looking at you. I was seated in this area, though, and it was only a minor inconvenience. You may also have to sit with people you don't know (I can see this bothering some patrons). You can see the layout here: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ramsheadtavern.com%2Fannapolis%2Fonstageseating.html&s=5771c625a78be1f993d00d634d9c66364f6a527222ed207a27bc9c775a62494a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.ramsheadtaver…</a>
