This is your go-to place for an after work hang out. Great local beer options. Great outdoor patio. Great happy hour. Great place to just relax and mingle with friends. Service is usually pretty good. Dinner fare is your standard pub cruisine, and I would give it 3.5 stars for dinner. Again, hit up the happy hour. Also, they have a beer club, which is pretty cool as well.
Review Source:Best Happy Hour in Town.
With something for everyone Ram's Head is my Happy Hour of choice. Â Happy hour prices run from 4-7 Â Mon-Fri and the food is served from 5-7. Â Your server will give you a couple of tickets for trips to the food bar which is different for every day of the week. Â Tuesdays and Fridays are my favorites, with Oysters and Mussels on Tuesdays and Wings Friday. Â With a couple of tickets on Tuesday you can have almost a half pound o mussels and 8 oysters with a $3 draft beer... Try to get that anyplace else.
Alan and Teisha will take care of you most weekdays at the bar upstairs, or you might opt for the Garden seating under the old Wisteria tree... you might even prefer the cozy, rustic look and feel of the downstairs bar, unless you want the pub/restaurant feel of the dining area... Â If you cant' find a comfortable place at the Ram's Head Tavern, you just can't be pleased.
Also not to be missed are the Release Parties for new brews coming from the Fordham/Dominion Brewery. Â Usually the first Thursday of the month the parties run during Happy Hour and feature a $5 pint with a special commemorative glass and $1 refills... Â Be there early, it'll be packed.
Really nice outdoor patio in the back. Great place to have drinks and dinner. The problem was the food. Calamari was cold and tasteless. Dinner was bland and the apple cobbler dessert was served with a mound of whipped cream instead of the listed ice cream. It would be a one or two star but the patio is nice.
Review Source:On this Friday night the show was about America.
You know them, Sister Golden Hair, Horse With No Name and Ventura Highway.
They are familiar tunes since 1972.
A great venue for a great band.
This was  their second evening of sold out performances.
The music was beyond my expectations.
If you've not been to to this venue and want to, I would recommend booking early for a show of your choice so you can reserve select seats with preferred sight lines and accoustics.
Seats for this show were $95 each a somewhat disapponting experience if you can't see or hear very well.
Last night, my fiance and I met up with friends, Â to enjoy the fabulous Michelle Farrell concert. This was our first experience here and noticed the atmosphere was nice and intimate, and the food and mixed drinks were good. Definitely a perfect venue to enjoy live music.
The problem arises as I'm finishing up my meal and drinking a glass of ice water. As I've sipped almost half the water down, I notice a large, brown ROACH floating in my glass. As the lighting was very low, I needed to confirm what I thought I saw with my friends. Sure enough, after everyone inspected it, they confirmed it was a roach and immediately stormed out. The manager was extremely apologetic, and comped our entire night. I'm still completely disgusted about the entire experience and I hope the management takes this issue very seriously by following up with an exterminator. I'd also encourage the Board of Health check this venue to ensure they are operating a clean and safe establishment.
GROSS and YUCK!
I would have given this two stars, but I had the shrimp and grits and it was pretty good...my husband had the fish tacos and they weren't. Â
Picture ordering fish and chips and taking a tortilla and wrapping it around the fish. Â Yuck.
The atmosphere was like sitting in a Denny's. Â We sat in the dining room and wished we had sat in the bar.
If you love Cabernets, don't order the house wine. Â
I have NEVER returned my wine in a restaurant, but I did here.
New Years Day
I mention this because our lunch was the brunch menu, as it was a holiday and what I was craving was not in the offering. I had the Mac and Cheese bacon burger, he had the Buffalo chicken sandwich. While the chicken was good, the mac and cheese burger just did not work. The burger had very little cheese and the capatavi noodle refused to partner with the beef. Either the burger was over sized or the bun undersized but there was no way to eat this burger other than with fork and knife. I was left with a plate full of incongruous ingredients.
I have been a huge fan of Ram's Head ever since I moved to Annapolis in 2011--it is (almost too) conveniently right down the street from my office, making it easy to stop in for what I would argue is one of the best happy hours in town. Â My favorite part? Â The drinks are reasonably priced, there is a great draft beer selection and every weeknight features a different complimentary food item. Â (Friday is best for Old Bay and hot wings).
Rams Head beer releases are another one of my favorite things about this place, first Thursday of every month--mark your calendars! Â The beer garden out back is not to be missed in the summer, just make sure you get there early as it fills up quick.
Now the prices definitely have increased recently, which I understand (unfortunately) is a sign of the times but that won't stop me from enjoying a delicious meal there too. Â I generally go for one of the sandwiches or burgers so I can't speak to some of the items on the menu but I've never had anything I didn't like. Â This is definitely one of my favorite places to bring out-of-town visitors before walking around downtown.
I'm not completely blown away by the food itself, but the environment and staff make up for it. There is a pretty good selection found on the menu, so you're bound to find something that tickles your fancy. The bar is nice, the staff are super friendly, and the environment inviting. I'm always down for stopping in for a beverage or two whenever I'm in town!
Review Source:Quick follow-up to my review from earlier this year ... sadly not much has changed since our last visit. Â Today, nostalgia reigned heavy and we headed downtown to RHT. Â
Sigh. Â Cream of crab no longer tastes of sherry or even cream, much less the couple of shreds of crabmeat. Â The once venerable shrimp salad, which used to have fresh tasting, crisp shrimp are now those soft, wet, thawed from fresh-frozen shrimp-ring shrimp. Â The dressing though is still very tasty and spicy. Â The "toasted brioche bun" was a toasted potato roll ... fresh, not bad, but a common roll and the brioche was clearly MIA.
Staff still competent and friendly, atmosphere and decor is great and I'm sure there is a good beer that will suit anybody's taste as the offerings are awesome.
Still, what a shame about the food. Â Nothing to see here people, move along.

Very disappointed with the menu change this past weekend, especially the 20% (TWENTY PERCENT!) increase in prices for what was left on the menu. Â They have deleted many, many of our favorites, including the World Beer Club Sandwich!
Maybe the menu was too diverse and trying to please everyone, but that was the beauty of Ram's Head ... always something different to try and once you'd been thru the whole menu it was easy to start over. Â They even changed the fries to cheap frozen tasting nasties ... can get better fries at the cheapest fast-food joint.
The beer is still great, but sadly, we will be spending what used to be many Saturday afternoon's at Ram's Head somewhere else.
Came here on Saturday October 20th, after the Navy homecoming game for the most unorthodox date I've ever been on but yet still very much on point. Not only were we able to get a table right away (on a saturday night? yep!) but the staff, food and conversation was absolutely legit.
As said in some of my previous posts on Yelp, I'm not usually up for the typical chain-style restaurants and bars however Rams Head surprised me and furthermore exceeded my expectations. I ordered the Count De Monte Cristo sandwich and "excuse my french", but... holy shit! Sliced turkey breast, bacon, ham and provolone cheese, all served on French toast? Umm.. I'm pretty sure that should be illegal. Breakfast AND Dinner of champions!
My hope is to be back at this place yet again, for another unorthodox date. Stay tuned...
As an Annapolitan I have always been a fan of Ram's Head's beer and their food. Â Originally it was their huge selection of bottled beer from around the world that pulled me in off of West Street, but now it's their Genius Stout and atmosphere that I really enjoy. Â There is always a lively crowd here but since it's not situated on Main Street you get a few less tourists and more locals. Â On a beautiful summer night dinner in the beer garden is delightful. Â Or if you are just dropped by for a quick brew, grab one at the front bar. Â Ram's Head has happy hour Monday through Friday which includes all you can eat wings.
Review Source:Really great for Sunday brunch. Excellent beer selection and really broad and interesting brunch menu. I got the breakfast biscuits, he got the monte cristo. Both generous portions and totally delicious. Live jazz. Excellent service. All you can drink bloody Mary bar for $10. Can't complain and would def return!
Review Source:One of my favorite Annapolis haunts. Â First off, if you're a beer drinker this is the place to go. Â Their draft list is huge, and they also brew their own line. Â Food here is good, and reasonably priced.
One of the best things about Rams Head is the beer garden. Â On a summer evening this is one of the best spots to sit and have a meal.
Service is great even when it's ridiculously crowded. The live music is usually pretty great stuff. The food is good and the margaritas are even better. I enjoy the decor - especially the golden ram on the storefront. I think I want to steal it someday.
It does get pretty loud, so if you're not into that then I guess Ramshead isn't exactly the place for you. Overall it's a good place to hang out and eat at on any night of the week.
Many things about Rams Head Tavern are pleasing and disheartening.
A once home to Fordham brewery, you can still see the inter-workings of the brew house with a left over, fermentation tanks, likely painted to resemble copper, but it's truly eye catching from the street and inside. There are exposed brick arches and hardwood walk ways, which can be narrow and the inside bar is of fair size, though small compared to the entire place, but seats roughly 15 or so, with tables around the bar. The outside is one of the best patios open all day and  into the early morning. I enjoy the patio the most as the is heat lamps for the winter and shady trees and umbrellas for the summer. Seats outside though are uncomfortable, the table choices are good for a large party but when dining with a small group or your self you'll be left hitting your legs into the table. If that wasn't uncomfortable enough the hard patio chairs have really no padding and need to be updated. The basement holds a bottom bar which is one of the best features of the establishment, it's large, and offers a big bar, and more causal relaxed seating, though I can imagine this place is hard to navigate during the late nights. Also the music venue spot is very relaxing and offers table only seating, which is first come and first serve. Overall I like the ambiance of the place.
The food is a different story, I have tried a handful of options here, including their happy hour hot bar. It feel like it's good and bad at the same time. I have tried "pub food" here, generally burgers and most of them fall apart from heavily sauced and aren't cooked to proper temps, and are flavorful though. On their hot bar I have had really just the brats, and sauerkraut which was great and came FREE just because I came to happy hour and bought a beer, I got two tickets to get as much as I could on a plate(s), awesome deal really. Â I have had their pasta before, it was good and had a ton of shrimp, calamari, and was one of the best things I've had here.
As for the beer selection it's some of the best in town. They have their house ale, Fordham which depending on the time of the year can have up to nine draughts on tap ; but you're not limited to just their house beers ( unlike DuClaw) but they have several other breweries and the standard Boh', BMC. Styles offered by Fordham range from the lite "copper ale" to the more robust "hop mountain", or another local breweries Old Dominions Porter; but mostly everything here is low on the ABV side and won't range higher than 8.5%. Mostly all of the beers are at their $2.75 pricing for happy hour which isn't a bad deal. They also have wine, and a full bar in both of their bars.
The service here is spotty, I had to ask my waitress a few times for a water, and the speed in which she served was agonizingly slow, Â I needed to get two beers at a time so I didn't miss the happy hour pricing, because of her speed. Â Though the other times I have visited I have never had this problem.
Seeing a music venue here is great, and is what I have came to expect when I visit a Ram's Head location to see a band. The seated arrangement allows for you to see everyone from the stage and have a more up close a personal experience with the bands. Ticket prices for this location are often over priced for what it is, but it's still a great place to see music.
At the end of the day, yes this is one of best places to get a beer in Annapolis, it's a lot more laid back and mature, then a night drinking out at Pussers, or Fed House. However the average food, is covered up by one of the best happy hour deals around, though only served Monday through Thursday. Great music venue, and decent priced beer ; 3 stars A-OK.
They have more seaters than waiters, that is a problem. Â Service was terrible, this is a great place to see a show but call ahead and reserve a seat if you plan on eating here. Â Also, the crowds are loud and the drinks flow like a river, so if that is not your scenario, ask to be seated inside. Â
The food, is not bad. Â A very broad range of tastes. Â From traditional seafood, to more eclectic tastes. Â One of my many favorites is the Shepherd Pie.
If you are going to drink, they also have that covered for you. Â Try there own brewed Fordham brand on tap. Â The Copperhead is my favorite. Â
If you are seeing a show drink as much before going inside, the price goes up, the selection gets smaller, along with the size of the drinks. Â Be warned. Â Remember this probably the best place in Maryland to see live music, you can be as close a five feet and at most seventy five feet from you favorite artist.
I've been here many times, mostly for the great live music. Â The food? Â "Meh" says it all.
We started with onion rings, which were huge -- enough for 6 people, at least. Â Nice and crispy with spicy chipotle aioli (my new favorite condiment!) Â And beer, of course: their own brews are fairly decent, especially the lager, which is reminiscent of a Yuengling.
Hubby ordered the lobster special. Â "What does it come with?" he asked the waiter, who answered, "if anything, it would be a baked potato." Â Huh?! Â Thankfully, it wasn't just a plate of lobster, though the baked potato was pretty blah -- room temperature and mealy. Â (The lobster was good, though lobster is pretty hard to screw up.) After this puzzling exchange, we privately dubbed the waiter Shorts McGee based on his attire and attitude. Â
My salad was really terrible. Â "Mixed greens" means, apparently, limp iceberg lettuce. Â "Blackened" shrimp were steamed with a really salty spice mixture and dumped unceremoniously on top. Â Dressing was also salty (thank goodness I ordered it on the side!) and the avocado was a suspicious color that seemed to signal a long time away from the peel. Â I picked at it, but couldn't get very far.
Service was okay, though we waited a long time for the check (it was Friday and one of the first warm spring nights, so I'm being generous with two stars.)
Bottom line: eat before the show -- somewhere other than Ram's Head. Â Enjoy your free beer afterwards (it's only a half-pint) and then take the party elsewhere.
Took a bud from FL with a taste for craft beer. The Rams head was stop number 3 or 4 on our tour.
The Scene. We did a pretty good recon on Main Street and the landing and RHT was the by far the jumping-est joint with a young, hip, good looking crowd. Our server, Laura was funny, efficient and accommodating. The scene was everything I wanted.
The Beer. We had been drinking Guinness and switched to Fordham's darkest offering, Oak Barrel Stout. OK, so I'll be honest - I did not have my glasses, the print was pretty small and I though it said Oat meal Stout (one of my favorites). The Oak was very pronounced but the beer was otherwise overshadowed by the Guinness that preceded it. I followed that with a Copperhead Ale, reminiscent of a sweet Canadian style, maybe like Moosehead.
The Chow. Last time I was here, the food was really good. This time, not so much. We ordered some wings - half buffalo, half old bay. Now I love my wings well done, but these were overcooked to the point of being dry and scrawny. The OB style were more salty than anything else, but honestly, there was so much going on in my mouth with the beer maybe I just didn't taste it. We had the fried calamari, remarkable only for the portion size (big). The little guys were under seasoned, unevenly cooked (rings overdone, tentacles better) and served with cocktail sauce.
The Bottom line. If you are looking for a place to see and be seen go for it!
The Ram's Head has a different vibe in every room. If you want a hang out spot, you have the front bar. You want a rathskeller, there's the basement bar. You want casual dining, there's a dining room. You want to sit outside on a nice day, there's the patio. I've never seen a show there, but it's also a concert venue.
The Fordham beers are good, if you are a local you are probably already familiar with them. The food is alright. For vegetarians they have a black bean patty that can be substituted on any burger. My memories of Rams Head are less about the food and more about the experience. We hang out in downtown Annapolis a couple times a year and we usually stop in to have a beer and hang out.
This place is very deceiving. Â We entered in the basement which makes it seem like just a small hole-in-the-wall pub. Â Upstairs, we were shocked by how large the tavern was. Â The tavern was packed on early Sunday afternoon for brunch.
We sat in the windowed room overlooking the patio, which looks like it would be a great place to have a drink during the summer. Â To be perfectly honest, I want to go back to Ramshead just so I can sit in another room--they all have a lot of character. Â In the corner of the room, a band played jazz music while we ate.
I was a little disappointed by the laminated brunch menus that reminded me of Denny's menus. Â The selections were very interesting, but I found myself wishing for an option of pancakes or something more traditional. Â I "settled" (ha!) on a crab-filled omelette and cofee, and my mom ordered the eggs benedict with a mimosa. Â
The mimosa was a little heavy on the OJ, but acceptable. Â Both our brunch entrees were delicious, and the portion sizes were huge! Â My omelette must have had at least 4 eggs in it, plus generous portions of crab. Â The coffee wasn't very flavorful and slightly burnt. Â The potatoes were my favorite part of the meal. Â They were perfectly cooked: Nice and dark without being greasy or burnt. Â YUM!
Rumor has it that the crab dip is out of this world... I will have to go back soon to try it! Â Also, Ramshead seems to offer a lot of specials--and a lot of beers! Â We've been looking for Copperhead for a while and I will definitely be back to get some!
The Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis is a nice looking micro-brewery. Â We went to Rams Head because of the $10 all-you-can-drink Bloody Marys. Â For a New Year's Day and a Sunday they were open and steady with business. Â Our waitress Alexandra was a sweetheart even though she was wearing a Raven's jersey and my die-hard Bengals beating boyfriend was screaming and yelling at tvs all day, she didn't hold it against him.
The menu was egg driven for brunch with Maryland style brunch options. Â (Read crabby crab crab....) Â So when in Rome...ahem Maryland I ordered the $10 Bloody deal and a Crab cake w/ eggs over easy and a toasted English muffin and fruit. Â The crazed Bengal dude had eggs Benedict cause he wasn't feelin' crabby. Â My crab cake was delish & went perfectly on the muffin w/ a little runny egg. Â Bengals dude's was standard Benedict, nothin' he's going to be writing to Cincinnati about. Â He did try the Rams Head's IPA which was balanced with a hint of malt and not overly hoppy. Â (How's that for a Beer review?)
Overall, I think if you're in the neighborhood, stop by the Head and have a beer and a bite. Â You'll not be disappointed if you're looking for a relaxed bar and beverage.
Cheers!
LOVE Rams Head! Â I actually have only been there once for dinner, all other times are for their Sunday brunch. Â It is AMAZING! Â My boyfriend and I love doing Sunday brunch and have tried probably all of them in the Annapolis area, but keep coming back here. Â I especially love whatever the chef makes on special for the omelette. Â I have gotten lobster in it twice, both times under $15 and they loaded it up with lobster! Â Their portions are big and the price is low. Â We spend more if we go to the diner! Â Once in a while we will also do their bloody mary bar, $10 all you can drink! Â And if you do not like bloodys... no worries! Â They keep orange juice on the bar too. Â
This has become our new spot for Sunday brunch, trust me, you will not be let down!
LOVE Ramshead Tavern! Great for beer snobs who also like an excellent selection of appetizers. The large order of nachos is great for sharing for a group of 4 or more. Lobster hush puppies are really great, as is the crab dip and cheese sticks.
Ramshead is great for dinner too, but I'd recommend eating in the dining area as opposed to the bar for anything more than apps.
Ask your server about the World Beer Passport!
This restaurant has a lot to it! Full bar upstairs, dive bar downstairs, formal dining room in the back, and a nice large patio outside for the warmer months.
They craft their own Fordham beers, accompanied by a large beer/wine list. The Copperhead is especially good! The food menu is typical Annapolis cuisine, crab cakes, burgers, steaks.
Terrific happy hour. Great draft specials and free food on weekdays near the entrance to the music hall.
The overall beer selection is excellent too -- a friend and I are working our way through the "World Beer Club," where you drink 100 different beers listed on their "passport" and get drink specials for life once you graduate.
On tap they emphasize the Fordham beers, which don't necessarily thrill me, but they have rotating selections and plenty of other drafts to keep me happy.
The atmosphere downstairs is quieter and pretty chill, so that's usually where we go. Although the patio seating is nice too, and when it gets cold -- heat lamps!
Unexpectedly ... delightful! Had dinner here before a show (saw Last Train Home - they were fantastic ..whiskey-driven lyrics, steel guitar and great covers from Dylan to Tom T Hall to the Seldom Scene). Â
Sat outside at a sidewalk table, drank several interesting (read: Â good) draft IPAs and had the chef's special - a Cuban pork wrap with black beans and bananas (yes, sounds strange ..but it was delish). Â
Service was friendly and knowledgable - at least in recommending IPAs. Â The sidewalk seating was great for people watching .. there was a pretty constant stream of cars and motorbikes 'cruising' by .. guess that about sums up a fun Saturday night in Annapolis!
I sent the following message to the GM through their website nearly a month ago and have not received any kind of reply. Â That coupled with what I experienced says it all:
Stopped in here last night for a bite to eat before attending another function in town. Â Service was prompt to start but we were not given a beverage selection menu until AFTER we were asked what we would like to drink. I had reviewed your website for specials and was in the mood for your advertised soft shell crab sandwich but the waiter did not seem to know what I was talking about so I made another selection.
My dining partner ordered the cream of crab soup and the crab melt. Â Both turned out to be mistakes. Â The soup was advertised to be 'full of lump crab' but didn't even have a spoonful of shreds in it and the crab melt while it tasted good, was not prepared with lump crab either.
To our surprise, a salad with mystery dressing was served to my friend even though none was ordered or expected. Â The soup was served along side his sandwich when it really should have been brought out in place of the salad?
Sadly disappointed. Â Cannot recommend your place and will most likely not return.
DO come here for Sunday Jazz Brunch out on the back patio!
The restaurant layout is extremely confusing since there are so many different entrances to different things for one place - the hostess stand is in the MIDDLE! But once you get a seat out on the back patio for Sunday Jazz Brunch all is well again. Even without the music, the patio has so much character from the old trees and vines growing with the pergola. It's enough to sustain a pleasant brunch with your friends by itself. But it's the Jazz that makes the mood perfect.
The service was reluctantly attentive. But this was a good thing. Our server Jackie was solid. She didn't spend more than 20 seconds which enabled her to visit her many tables frequently. If we did need anything, we'd often be communicating with her while she was walking towards and away from us-hardly ever stopping. This is much better than having your server disappear for long lengths of time, especially when you're enjoying beers with your brunch!
Definitely have the Fordam Lager. It's light, yet flavorful and very crisp. I wanted to enjoy a variety of beers here, but it was so good I ordered two of these. I made the regretful mistake of trying out their seasonal beer for my last brunch drink. It was a Wheat beer that tasted like Fruit Punch and Beer had a child. Definitely not for me.
As for the food: it has great potential, but with the 4th of July and farmer's market crowds, the kitchen was probably not on their A-game:
Philly of the Future Benny: Even though some of the roast beef was overcooked and my poached eggs were completely cooked all the way through (not runny at all) I was very happy and satisfied with this dish. If it was cooked right it would have been all the more perfect.
Eggs Florentine: The creamiest/spinachy eggs florentine I've ever experienced!
The presentation of the dishes was very nice too with the tropical fruit and flower!
I'd be willing to drive out to Annapolis from Reston, VA just to experience this Sunday Brunch again.
4.5 Stars. Â
My visit to the Ram's Head was a couple of years ago but the experience is still ingrained in my mind as the best brunch I've ever had. Â
Some friends and I stopped in for the Sunday Jazz Brunch. Â A quartet of musicians were playing some really smooth laid back jazz that I would venture to guess even non jazz lovers would enjoy. Â They even fulfilled my friends request to play "The Girl from Ipanema". Â It was a great rendition of the song!
My brunch started off with a delicious Bloody Mary. Â Among one of the better Bloody Mary's I've ever enjoyed. Â It's lunchtime on a Monday as I write this from my office desk and I'd pay a handsome sum for a Ram's Head Bloody Mary right now!
For my entree I ordered a delicious South of the Border breakfast that sadly they no longer offer. Â I went to their website before writing my review to get the name of my entree and saw that they have a new menu. Â I remember the breakfast potatoes as being really out of this world, I hope they still make those the same way. Â
While sad that the entree I enjoyed is no longer available I can't wait to go and try some of the new menu items!
Ever had one of "those" days? Â Yeah, me too and Tuesday was it...let's start with the closure of the Greenway when you need to be in Annapolis for your first meeting of the day that starts at 9 am. Â So, you've probably figured out that we were out the door by 6:30 and our 1 1/2 hr drive turned into the proverbial 3 hour tour...oh Gilligan you are my hero!
No breakfast, no lunch, many meetings without a break...so after our final meeting of the day we were blessed with the close proximity of the Rams Head Tavern. Â Yeah Us!!
Oak Barrel Stout, stat! Â The beer comes out just like I like it cold, frothy on top and soooo rich, yum. Â Next please! Â Ordered a greek salad topped with shaved Gyro meat. Â OMG, it was just what I needed. Â The romaine was fresh and crisp, calamatta olives, red onion slivers, huge chunks of feta and the dressing allotment didn't weight down the ingredients. Â The meat...oh that slight crispy crust on the outside, tender moist and well seasoned inside, what's not to like?
Dessert - only one house made offering - Peanut Butter Pie. Â Our brains still telling us we were starving, even though the beer, fresh rolls and salad filled us up were fooled by our lips, tongue and voice box working in harmony to say "yes, we'll take one for each of us." before we could stop ourselves. Â We finished every last bite...and it were gooooood.
I love this venue, if it was closer I'd carve my name in one of the booths. Â Alas, it usually takes the area business meeting or a planned music event next door to get me there. Â Perhaps I need to rethink how often I can make it there.
Love the atmosphere! Â
It's all about the small English pub feel in this place.
You walk in and there is an amazing bar upsptairs. Â It feels like you are transported back as you squeak down the stairwell to the bar in the basement (which also has access from the front of the building). Â Everything about this place is cozy so if you do not like confined spaces and many warm bodies, than try somewhere else. Â But this is a wonderful place for happy hour. Â We went on a Thursday afternoon and everyone seemed there for happy hour. Â At 0730 everyone seemed to bail.
Great place to get a beer nonetheless. Â And I look foward to going to see a show or two there!
My Concert Experiences Through the Years
Teens: Will wait hours before show, excited to see boobs (RIP HFStival), love being in the pit
Early 20's: realize the pit is stinky and full of germs - would prefer sitting in seats, but hate how stage rushers block your view. Hate that you have to get there early and boobs not nearly as exciting.
Now that I'm older and married w/ child, I don't like waiting around hours just to get in - that's extra time for the babysitter. and boobs are viewed as nourishment packs. Consequently, I LOVED Ram's Head.
You have assigned seats and there's no one rushing the stage so your view is pretty much unimpeded. It's a very intimate, relaxed setting. I didn't try any of the drinks or food, so no help there. The people across from me did order the Key Lime Pie but it was mostly whipped cream and they left a lot of it, so I would say that's a pass.
Note: 21 and over only for evening shows. They do have kids shows on some weekend mornings. There is a garage close to the Tavern, but I'd recommend trying to find street parking.
If you're looking for a chill night in Nap town, give the Ram's Head Schedule a look. If you're looking to rock out, what the heck are you doing in Annapolis?
Let's just all give this place 4 stars everyone! Â This seems like the kind of place I would frequent if I lived around here. Â But I don't.
Well, it is obviously a 4 overall. Â I had a stout (very good) a southwest salad (not too shabby), and a bowl of the crab soup (when in Maryland... unfortunately, not very good).
The soup came out at room temperature but I was able to forgive somewhat because the Genius Stout was so good - and I have been making beer for 13 years. Â Did they make it here? Â I'm not sure.
They may be benefiting an extra star here because I had so much crappy food in Annapolis, but it's hard to say for sure. Â If you are looking for bar food and some drinks, this will suffice.
Auf.
If a $4.25 6-beer sampler and dining next to beautiful copper distillery equipment sounds nice to you, you will enjoy your visit here. Â I have done many a liquor promotion here without ever eating, so until now, I have been very familiar with this establishment but not their food.
If you enter in through the Fordhams's Brewery door, the place looks like a maze of stairs and drops in different directions. The polished copper beer drums they have in the entry are just amazing looking, even for someone who isn't a total beer enthusiast. The dining area is small, the bar adjacent to it is cozy with nice dark wood tones and there is a even snugger downstairs bar nook if you didn't know. Â The patio is also a gorgeous place to sit and relax when the weather is right.
All four of us ordered beer; I wasn't sure which one I would fancy, so I got the sampler. I really enjoyed the Light Lager, the Wit Tail seasonal beer which had notes of orange and ginger (pretty tasty) and the Dominion Oak Barrel stout was my fave. Â It tasted like roasted coffee and chocolate; that's how my taste buds work anyway. Â The friends all liked the stout too, even though they're not traditionally into darks.
I had a chicken nacho craving so we all shared exactly that as our appetizer. Â The nachos were crisp and nicely layered with seasoned chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream, chives and olives. Â We were glad that these weren't soggy, but the refried beans were on the bottom of the plate UNDER the nachos. Â We thought, "eh? wtf?" Â
I got the Turkleberry; yes it has a cute name that sounds like a little cuddly turkey with the body of a fluffy bunny or something weird like that, but the wrap tasted pointedly healthy, and this wasn't good for a Sunday lunch of beer and nachos. Â The turkey and orange-cranberry cream cheese and sprouts curled into the flour tortilla seemed soggy and bland in an overwhelming way. Â The beer sampler and the nachos really sealed the deal in making me happy, though.
I must mention that there are a lot of tasty-looking items on their menu I'd like to try, albeit they all have crazy names like "Don CornyCado" salad and the "Hokie Melt".
Ram's Head is a great stop for lunch, dinner and especially entertainment. Â Chances are you have one semi-close to you since they have locations in Baltimore, Savage Mills, and 2 in Annapolis. Â Incidentally, I've been to all of them.
I saw Dave Barnes here a few months ago, and I fell in love with this place, mostly because of the artists and crowds that this place draws. If you look at most quality non-mainstream artist's tour stops, they always come here, which says a lot about this place.
I love...
- the intimate atmosphere. When you order your tickets, you choose your seats at a table and I got to know some of the people sitting near me, and it was a really unique experience.
- the surrounding area. After our show, my group and I wandered around Annapolis because we'd never really explored it before. There are so many gems around here that we couldn't believe that we didn't frequent the area more!
- the cheap tickets. I think we paid around $20, and when you're going to see the talent that this venue brings, it's a steal.
After all these years I finally made it out to the Rams Head for a performance! This was my first time and we were there to see Enter The Haggis perform.
We arrived about an hour and 10 minutes before the performance start time. We parked in a public parking garage about a block and a half away.
Picked up our tickets - the doors to the music area had not yet opened. So I went and sat at the bar and ordered a drink - the Oyster Stout.
The concert area is very nice and cozy. There really is not a bad seat in the house. Â Seating is assigned - when you purchase your tickets online - you get to see which tables are available and select seating from any open tables. The walls on either side of the stage are painted with large interesting mural scenes.
I took my seat and ordered another round of drinks and water, and waited for my friends to arrive. When they finally arrived - they ordered some food - we split an order of nachos.
The Nachos were, in my humble opinion - not very good. I'll wait to eat dinner at the Rams Head before I'm willing to state any opinions on food there in general.
Overall, the ambiance was nice, the beer was excellent, and the musical experience was awesome! The Rams Head has excellent acoustics!
I can't wait to visit again for more concerts!
A wonderful microbrewery in its own right, the best reason to come is to enjoy the cozy space as a venue for musicians of all stripes. I've seen Squirrel Nut Zippers & The Firecracker Jazz Band, as well as others - there really isn't a bad seat in the house. That said, seating is limited... if there's a popular band, get tickets early, as the house sells out fast.
The beer selection is a bit limited. However, if you're a Fordham lover, this is your place. Ram's Head is the place to get Fordham on tap--and they had almost all current offerings (including seasonals) available.
A bit on the pricey side (beer in the concert venue was about like the ballpark--$5 a glass); a nice Copperhead and great music really make for a wonderful evening. Also available is light pub-food level stuff- I'd reccomend the nachos or grilled portobello mushroom sandwiches. Dessert-wise, you can be blessed with a cinnamon-roll-style carrot cake with cream cheese icing spiraled throughout.
The staff is very attentive, but not intrusive - just enough to make sure you're taken care of, but not blocking the stage.
All in all, well worth the trip.
