I had known about Ranch House -- and feared it -- for nearly 30 years. Â Something about it gave be a vibe of being the type of place where fights constantly break out and absolutely nothing good can happen.
I finally got up the nerve to go inside, and discovered I had been wrong.
I've been there during the day and at night, and haven't seen a hint of trouble. Â It's a blue collar bar for sure, a mix of people my age and older people. Â The bartenders are exceptionally pleasant and the regulars have all been nice so far. Â
The bar is L-shaped and located immediately inside the door, there is a large seating area to the left of the bar.
On a recent visit, my brother and I were mistaken for traveling musicians by an older guy to the left of us. Â We still have no idea what gave him that impression. :)
As decent and friendly as this place turned out to be, it's not for hipsters or the casual drinker. Â This is the kind of place where alcoholics and alcoholics in training go to spend their evenings getting their daily medication.
Trivia fact: Â Ranch House is the oldest bar in Eastern Jackson County. Â It has been in continuous operation for about 55-60 years, possibly longer. Â The building is probably much older than that.
