What a fun place!  Skeptical doesn't come even come close to my reaction when a friend told me that he knows the owner of Lunar Bowl and wanted to go out there to watch a soccer game. The adventurous side of me won out though and I agreed to make the 25 minute trek from the Crossroads to Blue Springs.

We started our evening in the Blue Moon-the bar and grill attached to the bowling alley.  I loved the decor.  The bar is not named after the ever popular Wit beer but is a huge restaurant with a large blue moon in the center and a skyline along the far wall behind a large screen where the game was projected for us.  We didn't have the sound of the game on because of the DJ that came in to spin but he played an eclectic variety of music so we didn't mind.  Do not expect this to be only a bowling bar.  It is more than that but not quite a full bar and grill.  The service was superb and the atmosphere laid back without being sloppy.  I was really impressed.

Drink-wise, there was a surprising variety of bottled beers.  Way more options for spirits than I expected (including $5 Long Islands?!) and draft beers were under $5 for large pours of the usual bar selections of Domestics and Boulevards.  I went with a 90 Shilling and then went to drafts from there and was really pleased by my bill after four hours of being there.  The food was great, especially since it is a bowling alley.  The burgers were large, the fries were basic but tasty and they also have seasoned fries and onion rings for the more adventurous appetite. A friend got the chicken fingers and fries and we were all shocked at the size and quality of what she got.  I expected to see stadium-like chicken fingers but she was given a HUGE portion of them and a small amount of fries.  They looked fresh and were all white meat.  She ended up sharing and still had some left over.  I will be getting those next time.

Once the soccer game was over, we bowled a game or two and had a lot of fun!  The score-keeping system was easy to program, the staff took music video requests, (there were three large screens that pulled down between lanes and music videos played to make it more of a club-like atmosphere) and the house lights were dimmed (NOT Cosmic Bowling) with flashy colored lights.  Not only did I bowl my second best game on these lanes, but the staff accommodated my bum foot and let me bowl with my ace wrap and boot on and then one of their bowling shoes on the non-injured foot.  I thought for sure they'd make me take the boot off but they were really nice about it...and a bit smart assed and joked with me about it, which I loved.

Go to Lunar Bowl and the Blue Moon for a refreshing break from the normal routine.  They make bowling modern and cool again and I will definitely be back.  Just make sure you have a full tank of gas if you're coming from downtown. It is a trip but it is well worth the journey.

This place is awesome for a fun night out. They have a full arcade in addition to the bowling lanes, and it's been kept up really well. The only bad thing is that this place is absolutely crawling with local middle schoolers and high schoolers, no matter what time of night. I even had my first kiss here, but I'm trying to forget that.
