I had a carry out lunch from the new location in Troy. Â Randy's closed the Maryville location. Â The slaw was nasty, but the potato salad was edible. Â The carry out sandwich consisted of a semi dried out hamburger bun with sliced brisket wrapped in plastic. Â The brisket was a bit dry, somewhat rubbery and apparently had been heated in a microwave. Â In hindsight, beef brisket was probably not the best choice for a place that doesn't sell out each day of the beef they just smoked. Â The competition BBQ sauce was pretty good. Â If we ever try this again, we will probably get pulled pork or chicken by the pound and see how that goes. Â The restaurant atmosphere was dark and kind of dirty feeling.
Update. Â We tried Randy's again (carryout) and I have upgraded my rating from 1 to 2 stars. Â This time we tried the pulled pork and chicken sandwiches. Â This was an improvement over the brisket. Â I still think the offerings are only borderline acceptable. Â I would not go out of my way to eat here.
I have been fortunate enough to dig into some absolutely delicious BBQ in my short 21 years of life. However, I am not to fond of the local BBQ choices in the greater St. Louis area. BUT, while I was home for spring break my parents told me about a great local BBQ restaurant they had run across a few weeks prior.
Now, any BBQ lover understands if you go too late in the day for BBQ you could be looking at a smaller menu due to the lack of availability. Nevertheless we arrived and were informed that only chicken, pork, and ribs remained. Lucky for me - they had everything I wanted. The food was wonderful. I ate a pulled pork sandwich with baked beans as a side. The meat was very tender and they offered a wide variety of sauces.
Unfortunately, my feelings about the food do not flow over into those about the customer service. The employee working seemed to be a bit overwhelmed which resulted in some mixed up orders, an hour wait, and a little rudeness to boot. I understand life can be difficult at times when dealing with the struggles of running a small business but it doesn't cost anything to give your customers a smile.
My hopes for Randy's House of BBQ are still high though. I wish no harm to any small business - especially one with great food. They have a few small hiccups to overcome but I will be returning at some point in hopes that I can rewrite this review with a more positive experience.
Great...great BBQ. Â Competition Sauce is dreamy. Â Best brisquet around. Â Don't eat those burnt ends because I want them all...they are perfect. Â Great value in my opinion. Â The marginally higher cost is offset by their QUALITY! Only downfall is it is sloooooooow. Â Come in a patient mood and you will be happy.
Review Source:I'm surprised that this place doesn't have any reviews yet. We found Randy's House of Barbecue while driving by one day. It is just around the corner from our house, so we decided to stop in for dinner one night. We were craving good BBQ and we found it here! It's a small restaurant with a counter where you order your food. Their menu has everything you could want and they have a selection of 4 sauces to choose from.
I ordered a half rack of ribs and my husband got the combo plate with chicken, brisket, sausage and pulled pork. For sides, we ordered baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad. The staff are friendly and the service was prompt. We didn't have to wait long for our delicious food.
Let me tell you...when the ribs came out I was ready to start digging in. It looked and smelled fabulous! The meat came right off the bone. The seasoning on the meat was good and not overwhelming. Their sauces were also very tasty. The sides were a great complement to the meal. Everything tasted fresh and home made. This is one place that you have to stop in and try! I know we'll definitely be back!
We are barbecue fans, especially of Pappy's and Bogarts, and a guy named Captain Hog who caters the Edawrdsville Gun Club, so were excited that there was a new place nearby.
Now? Not so much.
We arrived and there was one family there, already seated. We placed our order, and waited. And waited. And waited. I think the girl was working alone, but really, how long does it take to serve up already cooked food?
A friend had said they liked it because it was cheaper than the others, but if you compare the size of servings, it is MORE expensive.
I ordered the brisket and received two thin, small pieces, one of which was half gristle. The sides were so-so, sauces are bland, and the carry out was slow.
Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon, especially when I can drive a little further, go to St. Louis and get GREAT barbecue.
