Ray's Downtown Deli

Ray's is now closed.  I went there for lunch to day and they were closed and a sign stating the a new business was apply for licenses.  

Sorry to see Ray's Downtown Deli go.  It will be missed.

Never been to Ray's at night, but I've been eating lunch with them sporadically since they were in their original location on Court Street.  I'm sure I must have tried other things... we once had our company Christmas party at the Court Street location, but I pretty much ALWAYS order the tuna on squaw with a bag of chips and a drink.

My most recent visit was fine.  I don't remember if they used to serve white tuna, but I felt that the tuna wasn't as good as it used to be, they should serve white tuna... it's better!

The soda wasn't so good - don't know if they dont' have the mix right or buying off-brand syrups, but I was glad they only had medium sized cups. The place is feeling a little rundown; the dining room is kind of dark and gloomy for lunch and when people can see in your kitchen, it should be shiny and fresh looking.  

But, the food is decent, not the cheapest sandwich, but it's good, the bread soft and it's close to the office.  I'll be back again.

What can they do to get five stars?
Wow.  They'd need to do a lot.  I don't think they'll get five stars out of me.  They'd have to do a serious update to the menu to make it unique.  The food quality would have to jump up a notch and SERIOUS overhauling the decor and ambiance.

I've been coming here for years for lunch.  They sell sandwiches, soups and burgers.  I usually get a sandwich here.  Their sandwiches come with a side like potato salad, cole slaw or carrot salad.  Sandwiches are good.  A whole sandwich costs about $7.  I hear that the place turns into a bar/club at night.
