Don't get me wrong; I didn't HATE this place, but for the price we paid, I felt like I should have enjoyed the food more than I did (maybe it just wasn't my taste?). Parking is a bummer here. Got early, got lucky, got a spot. My friend parked a few blocks down and didn't even want to deal with the parking.
We took a table that was near the parking lot on the patio. The unfortunate part of that is our table is directly in the path of the fabric that separates the Coral Tree Cafe from the Red Room, and there were too many people just walking back and forth to the point where our experience wasn't exactly comfortable and my friend kept getting bumped by random instruments, people, bags, etc.
Went here for dineLA; fortunately for us, it was Wednesday so we got to listen to the jazz being played outside (which was really nice!) I got the tomato gazpacho with ceviche, the halibut, and the stone fruit trifle. We got a bottle of house wine to split. Though I really liked the ceviche, the tomato in the gazpacho was too acidic for my tastes. It just tasted like a cold bowl of crushed tomato with some ceviche in it. As for the halibut, it was cooked perfectly, but was served with a handful of raw basil that I didn't know what to do with. The taste of the basil was too bitter to eat with the fish and there was just way too much of it. I wish it was cooked a little here. The trifle was decent; nothing too special.
We actually had pretty decent service here, but I would hope so considering that it is a small venue. The only issue I had was when our waitress went on break and we weren't attended to for a while (we actually have no idea if she went on break or not, but we just guessed because no one came by for a while). She was really nice and helpful in our decisions for wine.
Overall, a nice place to try, but probably wouldn't return... Wasn't a huge fan of their dineLA menu!
