food was fairly bad. the egg rolls were cooked wrong somehow and had a powdery exterior. The vegetable fried rice had huge chunks of vegetables which were too big and not cooked thoroughly (still hard). Same with cashew chicken - vegetables and chicken pieces were large and not sauteed well enough. Flavor was not there; seemed like sauce and cashews were added at the end. All in all - pretty bad.

This is THE BEST Chinese in the area. Beyond generous portions of the freshest vegetables and meats. We thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Phoenix (chicken, shrimp & vegetables in a light garlic wine sauce) and Happy Family (chicken, beef, pork & shrimp in vegetables and brown sauce) with hot spices added to perfection. The Hot & Sour Soup was amazing -- it could be a meal by itself. The steamed rice was slightly sticky, lightly salted, and perfect.Every morsel was cooked to perfection, We enjoyed half for dinner and will have plenty for lunch (if we can resist having it for breakfast). Seriously, if you're anywhere near Glenview and have a craving for Chinese, drive over to this little establishment and enjoy some amazing food.

The storefront looks a little sketchy, but due to the reviews here we decided to check it out. I'm glad we did because we now have our new go-to Chinese restaurant!

My husband ordered the fried chicken wings as an app and I got the crab rangoons.  Both were delicious and the wings had a curry flavor to them which was a great twist. We then got the Hung Sue chicken and the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce. Big portions (which means plenty for leftovers!) and tasty food. We'll be back!

I have eaten a lot of different Chinese restaurants' renditions of fried rice and Red Star TAKES IT. The vegetable fried rice is the best I've ever had, the pork fried rice is the best I've ever had. Crab rangoon is necessary everytime I order, as well as the potstickers. My go-to is broccoli beef, or General Tso Chicken. You will NOT be disappointed with the food that comes out of this place. I do not recommend dine in unless you're just looking to dine and run (at work) it's a very small store front and in the summertime it gets very hot in there (the store faces west) Everytime I call the wait time is either "10 minutes" or, when they're slammed on a Friday night, "15 minutes". The prices are very affordable and there's really nothing you can argue at Red Star. This review has made me decide I'm going to get Red Star right now.

My sister ordered takeout from here all the time (can't vouch for their delivery service) and I loved their noodles and fried rice combo boxes. Almost everything ordered from here, their chicken (sweet & sour), fried rice, egg rolls, mongolian beef, are all delicious.

*Also right next to Malabar Foods if you wanna mix and match with some Indian food as well.

My family and I used to order the Chow Fun seafood from here all the time, stopped for a while, and started eating it a bit again. It oddly changed between that span of time, or my memory is shoddy. It's kind of soupy now, but I guess if you dump it into another bowl, it'll be better.

They give you an option for less salt and less oil, so that's nice. Their dishes are great, imo, and inexpensive. Their lunch special is a steal, really. I tried it once, and I was shocked by the weight of the bag. Not only is that styrofoam container absolutely packed with your lunch choice and friend rice, you also get a huge egg roll. This is for about $5. It'd probably feed you for the day, unless you have a huge appetite.

The person maning the cash register switches between a lady and a guy, and they're both quite nice. It's definitely NOT a sit-in place, so quickly drive back home to enjoy your meal.

Red Star is my go-to Chinese food place when I'm at home.  I've been ordering from this place for the past 2 and a half years and they never disappoint.  They have a huge menu and they also have luncheon combination boxes that are $5 tops and come with either chicken fried rice or white rice, an egg roll and whichever main dish you choose.  The Mongolian beef is very tender and has a great sauce.  The sweet and sour chicken is fried very well and the sauce is just sweet and sour enough.  The luncheon boxes are plenty of food and I usually have enough as leftovers for the next day.

My absolute favorite dish on the menu is the pan fried noodles Cantonese style.  You can choose from chicken, beef, pork or shrimp as your main meat for the dish.  The noodles have a nice crispy outside from being pan fried and the sauce is thick and is chock full of vegetables.

It's cheap, the owners are super friendly and the food is done within 10-15 minutes.

We've been ordering take out from Red Star for as long as they have been in this location on Greenwood.  We have NEVER had a bad meal.  The food is outstanding.  Always hot when we pick it up.  The vegetables are so fresh, they taste like they were picked from the garden that day.  I've tried mostly everything on menu, but our favorites are the egg foo young, the coral shrimp, moo shoo pork, pea pods with beef.   And the soup, it is so good, I have had it for a meal in itself.  My favorite is the "sizzling rice soup" for two.  It comes with huge pieces of tender chicken, unbelievable fresh vegetables, and the broth is sooo good.  What makes it "sizzle" is the crunchy "golden rice crust" that you can put on top of it.  Amazing!  We have gone to other chinese take out restaurants, but we have never found one as tasty and fresh as Red Star.  Oh yes, the owners are always so friendly too.  Thanks Red Star!

Good price. Good food. I recommend the lunch special orange chicken. I can't even finish the meal, it's good for lunch & dinner. Portions are huge.

This is a good Chinese restaurant with good prices, and the owners are nice. I would not recommend it for people looking for a dine-in experience, because the place is tiny and has only two tables. The dishes are good and the portions are big. Their lunch specials are a VERY good deal for what you pay -- 4.25 to 4.75 for an egg roll and a huge portion of food. I particularly love their chicken fried rice and chicken noodle soup.
