Recently cited for two health code violations both involving cross contamination issues with eggs.  (Muncie StarPress 1/1/2013)

We ate there before knowing the above.  None of us got sick.  We had the breakfast menu.  The biscuits were excellent.  The sausage gravy--I've had better.  The coffee was good and smooth.  They are closed by 7 pm.  They have evening specials in the 5.99 range. Looks like baked steak is available as a special every evening

OK....i live on the northside and came south to try the Retro. Mulligans is in my opinion the best breakfast place in Muncie so i wanted to see how Retro compared....Nice breakfast place. Had the hungry man..3 eggs, toast or biscuits, hash browns or fried potatoes, choice of meat, and side of gravy. Good price for what you get. Stay away from the gravy and biscuits as gravy is the kind from a can.....fresh made gravy would make this place a 5 star. Toast was a little soggy. Overall service was great, coffee great, and food really good. I would bring work associates here for breakfast meetings if they had wifi! Mulligans still #1 in town with great food, service, and wifi, but a few tweaks and this place would be top 3 breakfast places in Muncie.     We don't have anything as good as Retro or Mulligans on the north side of town for breakfast!

Came on a Saturday morning with my daughter and girlfriend.  Very busy place being one of only two breakfast type restaurants on the southside.  Atmosphere inside is classic diner style decor with lots of coca cola memorabilia.  We were slow to be served due to the amount of customers but we were not in a hurry so it didn't bother us.   Friendly waitress got us good coffee and came back quickly and took our food orders.  They made Avery a kids pancake shaped like Mickey Mouse with chocolate chips and some bacon strips on the side and she enjoyed it.  Shandy got fried mush being one of the more unique and vegetarian friendly options and she said it was good but then again fried mush is hard to mess up.  I got a skillet type plate that I always get and as usual it was perfect.  Food came out quickly and was delicious especially considering how busy they were.  Best of all my total bill was only $16 before tip.  Crowd consists of mostly older folks and southside townie types that range from factory workers to neck tattooed pit bull enthusiasts so it's always an interesting mix.  I believe the owners originally operated the mid-city cafe and sold it to open this nicer newer establishment.
Definitely worth checking out if your looking for a traditional eggs, bacon, and pancakes type of Midwestern breakfast.  I haven't gone in for lunch or dinner yet but the menu appears to be your typical burgers and fries diner fare.
