Definitely will return.  Went for breakfast, and was pleasantly surprised.  Other than Walker Brothers (whose closest location is all the way east in Highland Park), this is the best place I've found in the Northbrook/Deerfield area for a nice breakfast.  One of the best things about it is that they have a huge menu, and a large part of their menu is devoted to healthy eating.  On top of that, they were incredibly flexible; I ordered a "skillet" which typically comes with potatoes, and the waitress - just noticing my hesitation - offered me fruit instead.  Coffee isn't bad, either.  Service is great, and it's a pleasant place to sit.
One note - you can't find it from the street.  It's just west of the shopping mall at the corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Road.  Turn into the street behind the Whole Foods, and it's on your right, just west of the Whole Foods.

What a great place- food is excellent breakfast lunch and dinner.  Love the corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast, the hamburgers for lunch and the skirt steak for dinner.  Everything I've had here is delicious.  Glad to live nearby and highly recommend!

Yes, food here is of average quality but they are always efficient and accommodating.
Part of me wish they would stop trying to "fit in" to the cookie cutter mold of the community with a restaurant that's just like others in the area and just cook authentic Mexican food but I get it, not everyone may be ready for that and it is still a business after all.

You can also sense the pride and the commitment of Ramone's family in this place and how it has become their life.  They are truly dedicated to making sure that you are happy with your experience.  Keep up the great work and bring in more authentic Mexican food choices!

This place is owned and run by Ramone...a very friendly guy who has been in food service for years.  I only know his name because he has been so friendly to me the times I've gone in to this restaurant...he calls me by name now!

The menu is a fusion of Ramone's hispanic influence and American...with a decent assortment of breakfast items.  Nice place to bring family, have a small celebration or just for Sunday breakfast.

My family and friends have been going to Rhapsody for years.  It is a wonderful place for breakfast, lunch AND dinner.  The food is always well-prepared and flavorful.  I enjoy the low-fat options lunch options and salads as well as the breakfast choices.  The Chili Omelet is my favorite!  The waitstaff is nearly always attentive and helpful.  If you want to linger and visit with a friend, you never feel rushed to leave.

Ramon, the owner, is a true restauranteur and host!  He is friendly and very accommodating to the customers.  If some the previous reviewers were displeased with their meal or service, they should definitely have spoken to Ramon who would have done his utmost to please the customer.  (If Ramon doesn't know you are unhappy, he can't try to make your meal experience better!)

It is true that there are groups of ladies who use the farthest portion of the restaurant for mahjong at least once each week.  Ramon is very community-minded and offered the ladies the use of part of his restaurant during the "slow" portion of an afternoon so they have a place to have lunch and gather for their game.  I find it kind, sweet and smart (business-wise).

I look forward to my next visit to Rhapsody Cafe.

The waitstaff and management are very eager to please and friendly.  Five stars for that.

Went with number one son for breakfast, trying to break free of his Walker Brothers addiction.  Didn't work.

I ordered a 'super' skillet with tons of items--bland was my reaction.  The potatoes were slightly greasy and not seasoned; bacon was too crisp.  You get the idea.

Number one son got an omelet with cheese, bacon, and avocado and it was lackluster.

However: the eggs were fresh and came exactly as ordered.

The pancake, waffle, pastry breakfast may be worth one more try, but I've lost some negotiating ground on trying to escape Walker Brothers.

We've been eating at Rhapsody for years now. The owner is very friendly, and always has a smile. I am especially fond of their chicken salad, though the whole wheat pancakes are darn good, too. Something for everyone, and fast, friendly service!

I'm a sucker for eating breakfast for any meal other than breakfast, so when my aunt suggested this place for lunch this weekend, I was intrigued. We didn't have a lot of time because we needed to get somewhere, but luckily they were very accommodating and sat us right away. The range of choices for a carb nut like me were enough to get me salivating. From cinnamon roll French toast to banana nut pancakes, I was in heaven.

I ordered the banana nut pancakes which were delicious and very filling. Both my mom and my aunt ordered the chili omelette and they cleared their plates.

But this place is more then just good food, good prices and friendly staff. My aunt teaches beading classes across the street and before the studio where she teaches opened, the restaurant would let them teach in the back. Plus, I understand that they let the ladies play Mah Jong as well. Talk about going above and beyond!

Have been here for breakfast/brunch twice, and lunch once. Both breakfasts were fantastic, and even though there were quite a few people here, the food came out very quickly. Lunch was just average - I had the Reuben. There was too much meat and hardly any sauerkraut or dressing. My dad had some kind of steak sandwich and thought it was great.

It doesn't seem that you need a reservation for small parties even on a weekend during brunch, which is nice. Crepes are delicious, coffee is pretty good.

Breakfast served all day and the service is attentive and patient.

All said, I'll be getting the breakfast items when I come here.

** I've only gotten delivery from this place **

But, what amazing food!  Their salads are out of this world.  You are seriously stuffed when you're done with your meal.  I don't think I have ever had anything bad from this place, and we've ordered from here 20+ times during busy season.  Never had a messed up order, so I can only imagine the experience in the restaurant is equally fantastic.

Standout cuisine, surpasses that of most expensive/flamboyant upscale restaurants. Fantastic wait-staff, and owner Ramone is smart & savvy restauranteur. They can create almost anything you want from diverse menu. Soups are out of this world. Chili-Omelet is healthy and taste sensation, chicken fajitas remarkable, Chicken parmigiana outstanding, and fish, along with specials, are sensational.

Cleanliness is tangible is the preparation of food, and obvious from observing the facility and how it's run. Prices are very reasonable. Anything less than a five star rating must come from those who simply cannot be satisfied - They're out there.
    Highly recommended!

Fresh hot full flavored coffee ( not the weak stuff you get elseware), Fresh ingrediants, great dinners, very good staff.   Daily specials are always exciting.

Got med omelette.  Veggies were closer to raw than cooked and home fries were swimming in salt.  Nice atmosphere, but food doesn't make the cut based in first impression.

I really like this place. We go often for breakfast and sometimes for dinner and both are well worth it. The staff is very friendly and Ramon a gracious host. I get Ray's Frittata for breakfast which is filled with crisp bacon and served with sour cream. My favorite dinner item is the thin cut porkchops which are sometimes on special--yum! They are also very accomodating when it comes to special requests. I rfecommend this place for a good, moderately priced meal, breakfast lunch or dinner.

Really nice breakfast place!  There's a nice pitcher of water on each table, very clean and friendly service.  As others mentioned, they cater toward an older crowd, so the food isn't overly seasoned.   The portions are pretty big, I have yet to finish a whole meal!

I highly recommend the Banana Bread French Toast and Crab Cake Benedict!  Really good soups and pancakes too! I only wish they were open a little later for dinner, they close at 9pm.  That could be due to the fact that they are right next door to Trax Tavern, that place gets pretty busy later in the evening.

We had an excellent breakfast here just this past weekend. I had the portobello omelette and the rest of my family had the blackberry banana pancakes and cinnamon French toast which were all very good. We definitely will return to try other items on their menu

Ended up here when visiting friends out in Deerfield.  I found it interesting how it seemed the owners and staff were all Hispanic, but the menu and vibe was very Jewish (it is Deerfield after all).

The menu is the typical casual American restaurant, but I will say their food is high quality.  I liked even some of the more creative ideas they put, such as the apple pancakes.

I wouldn't come here expecting some awe-inspiring creative cuisine, but I will say it's the ideal spot to take families to for a meal or parents for breakfast.

A really good place for breakfast food. We always wind up here around dinner time or odd hours coming back from somewhere else.

Delicious pancakes of all shapes and sizes with good flavoring, fresh fruit, and toppings. Omelets and scramblers are tasty and satisfying. Reasonably priced food with generous portions and sides. We always leave satisfied no matter what we've had so far.

Parking can be difficult. There's a sports bar next door (Trax) that shares the same parking lot, but it's worth it even if you have to park near Walgreens a block away.

Overall, Rhapsody's definitely worth the trip.

A good place for Breakfast & Lunch...for Dinner, not so much.  The menu is vast for the early hours.  At dinner it becomes a fairly expensive place for a "coffee shop" (mostly $16-20 if you order dinner items).  Food is ok and very plentiful. Service varies - sometimes good, others, a bit disinterested.  Parking can be abominable - the "Trax" restaurant next door has Valet Parking and there are often no spaces anywhere in the lot at noon or early evening. Oh, and the Metra Rail runs right next door, so get used to it.

First time here--had an interesting Pecranberry Melt (which comes with a side salad) on multi -grain bread. It was wonderful. Love that they give you a pitcher of water on the table so you don't have to hunt down your server. My friend had a make your own omelet and it had tons of veggies in it. Service was good and friendly. I wasn't a fan of their potatoes that come with your order. they weren't crispy or flavorful. Don't know what they are talking about with lack of parking (it wraps all around the restaurant).
Beautiful location surrounded by wetlands and nature. they even have a bench out near the wetlands where you can sit and bring your coffee if you want (when the weather gets better).

Only negative which is totally out of their control is the signage is poor. If you don't know it is there, you may drive right by.

Very cozy mom and pop's restaurant. Nice decor with a water pitcher on your table.

The only con would be the lack of parking.

I've been here twice within the past month and had breakfast both times.  The food is great and the prices are very reasonable for the amount they give you.  It's clean and staff are friendly and attentive.  They even let us use our buy one lunch/dinner entree get one free coupon from the Entertainment book on breakfast items - nice that they are laid back about it since some places are so picky about their coupons!  Try the blackberry and banana pancakes - delicious!

Ramon knows how to serve his customers and treat them well.   Great wait staff, Elena, Sue, Chino can't be beat.   This is one of my everyday standards.   They learn your name, remember what you order and its nice to be treated well with good food, good prices and good service.

Service was great but unfortunately the food was pretty blah. I wanted to like it but my egg-white omelette was just not tasty. I might come back to try some of their pancake or French toast dishes but in a few months ...

I went to Rhapsody Cafe this Saturday and was pretty impressed. I got the blueberry pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs and Girlfriend and I split a side of canadian bacon.

The pancakes were awesome - they are made from a whole wheat batter, though you can sub buttermilk batter if you want. The pancakes were fluffy, flavorful and melted in your mouth. They gave me a little cup of blueberry sauce/puree to top which was great because I am not the biggest fan of maple syrup (call the Pancake Police, I know)

The eggs were standard, but went well with the canadian bacon.

Service was OK...just cross your fingers and hope you don't get "the new guy"

Coffee and water were abundant - serve yourself at the table so no waiting for re-fills which is always a plus.

Note that you pay at the register. Sadly, I sat there for 15 minutes seething at "the new guy" for not coming and picking up the check so I could leave....and then actually READ the bill and noticed how it noted "Pay at cashier" ....whoops.

All in all this is a great place for hot, good quality fairly priced breakfast food, and with no wait even at 10am on Saturday. I think this might be because it is a little difficult to find in the mall if you don't know where to go..but now that I know where it is, I will totally revisit.

I like Rhapsody, and my wife doesn't. This place is always consistant. I like the pitchers of water on the table, I like the chicken salad. I like the small side salads, great ranch dressing. I like the little homestyle potatoes. This is a great neighborhood spot, that has good food, isn't greasy, is very clean, NEWSPAPERS TO READ ! Prices are very reasonable too.

Ramon is back, he is the owner and he makes a difference. We used to go here for dinner once a week as the specials are always good. However, last several months, food and service was spotty. Went last night, service was back, food was excellent. We both had the grilled calamari appetizer ($8), nice portions, very well seasoned - excellent choice. I had the steel head trout special - fish was excellent (had the sauce on the side), sweet baked potato was just right. This is a great place for more than burgers and breakfast. Try their specials, also recommend the char grilled chicken.

    Not great....at all.

Wait staff is nice, but extremely overworked and therefore service suffers.  I swear our waiter was serving 6+ tables while other servers just stood around, not doing much.  He was also filling syrup containers, salt & pepper, toasting muffins... all while waiting tables, and everyone else just stood there.  I felt really bad for him - he was doing the best he could.

We were seated promptly (no wait whatsoever at 9:00 on a Sunday morning!), but didn't get water or coffee for over 10 minutes.  Had to ask for cream twice, and they didn't bring my husband's tea or kid's o.j. until we asked again.  Food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but my son's side order of scrambled eggs was missing - had to wait another 5 minutes for that.  Having just worked out and wanting something somewhat healthy, I ordered the "Marcy's Healthy Scrambler" - supposedly turkey sausage, mushrooms, spinach & onions mixed into cholesterol-free eggs & topped with low fat mozarella.  Well, the eggs were "wet" and basically soggy.  The turkey sausage was minimal.  It was OVERLY abundant with mushrooms & spinach - and there was NO flavor.  Just awful.

My husband had the Huevos Rancheros w/chorizo and he said that was pretty crappy too.  My son had the kid's French toast with sausage - pretty hard to screw that up, and an 8 yr. old isn't going to complain.

All that unimpressivness cost me almost $40.  I won't be back anytime soon.

Some spotty service in the mornings. Overworked and limited wait staff tried very hard. Very nice people.
Food is always very good, fresh and accurately cooked.Good menu and the owner is very nice. A visit before work if the service has not improved could be an issue if you actually have to be somewhere or catch a train.

We went here for lunch, after leaving our first choice lunch place bc the wait was so long. I am glad we found this place. They serve great charbroiled burgers. I had the cheeseburger and my wife had the salad. My meal was cooked perfect and tasted delicious, my wife liked her meal as well. The prices are fair for what you get and the service is very friendly. My only knock against this place is that they do not serve fries (!?). They do serve house potatoes with the burgers, and that got me through but I would give this place 5 stars if they rounded out the burger menu with real fries. I can't wait for their new location to open in Gurnee bc I live there:) Try this place - you'll like it.

During my first few visits, it was a miserable experience.  The food was not that great, and I felt I was dining in the midst of grandparents galore.

I gave it another shot today for a work group lunch.  We sat towards the back, surrounded by a bunch of old ladies playing cards and canasta.  I glimpsed a scene of myself in 50 years, and I had to shudder.  There was also a screaming kid nearby, so Greg's review of taking kids here is spot-on.

I gave the breakfast side of the menu a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised.  I had apple pancakes and fresh-squeezed orange juice, both of which contributed to heartburn for the rest of the afternoon.

End result: breakfast food here is apparently pretty good.  Anything else is not so much.  A good place to go over lunch if you work in the area.

Rhapsody is our favorite Deerfield location for dining with the kids.  The food is consistently good:  freshly prepared, solid portions.  The kids menu is the usual stuff -- chicken fingers, mouse pancakes, etc.  The fruit plate is a large bowl of mixed fruit, enough for several children.  I usually order the Reuben or the Meggsican Fritatta, both of which are tasty.  The overall menu is large and diverse.  Service is almost always friendly, kid-focused, and very attentive.  Never too crowded (other than peak brunch times, never any wait).  Very inexpensive.  Wine and beer service.
