My wife and I ate at Rick's on the Square in Tyler today. The food and service were great, but it turns out they have a very realistic large painting of a completely nude woman in the men's room (seductively posed, leaving nothing to the imagination). Â The bar area is also full of almost nude pin-up model images.
I spoke with the owner, Rick, and told him about the great food and dining experience I also mentioned that the painting in the men's room was objectionable to me, and that prevented me from wanting to come back, especially with regard to bringing my kids. Â (The food and service really are excellent!)
He kept a smile on his face, but cut me off and gave me a few very snarky responses including:
- "That painting has been here a long time"
- "This is a bar after all" (Except that over half of it is a restaurant, and there are plenty of restaurants that have bars and don't have blatantly pornographic images in them)
- "Just use the restroom before you come next time"
Not that I expected him to actually take the painting down, but he clearly had no concern for my thoughts about the matter. I definitely got a "don't waste my time" vibe from him.
I should add that I couldn't have been nicer to him. Â If he had responded with something along the lines of, "Thank you for your feedback. Â We hope to see you again sometime", he would have at least come across more professional. Â I didn't give him an ultimatum, or tell him he had to remove it. Â I just told him this was my only critique about the restaurant.
I won't be eating there ever again. Â Bummer.
*Edited to add that I would have given the food and service 5 stars.
This place has the best lunch in Tyler! The daily specials are made from scratch and are always great. Friday and Saturday nights offer great bands and a fun crowded atmosphere that is one of the best in Tyler. The dinner menu is also very good, great date spot for a nice meal and a little fun after!
