    No Happy Hour Specials!

The menu changes every so often. Each time they take off the dish I like (chicken fried steak, Honey BBQ Ribs). But I continued to go there because of the nice staff and it is close to my house. Now the staff has changed and so does where I eat.
You feel as if you are a bother because the ladies spend so much time talking to each other you have to interrupt to make any requests. The male staff members are the nice ones even though it seems they are forced to do the actual work.

Wife and daughter and I tried Ric's for breakfast last Sunday. We were seated on the patio.

I am searching my head trying to think of anything positive or negative to say. The service was fine, but nothing spectacular. The food was fine but nothing spectacular. It just wasn't spectacular or memorable.

The breakfast menu is small and slightly overpriced. For three of us and no alcohol it was 55 dollars before tip. I thought that was pricey for what we ate (eggs benedict, french toast, and scrammbled egg skillet). I had the skillet and there were too many red and green peppers and not enough potato. The peppers overwhelmed the dish without a doubt. Also the cheese was the liquid crap that tastes like it comes out of a can.

Would I go back for breakfast? Probably not.

I have tried Ric's three different times and each time I have left unsatisfied. My girlfriend and I went there last night after finding that our favorite restaurant had a huge waiting list. So we wearily made our way into Ric's, knowing that service was going to be slow and the food would be sub par. But, for being as crowded as it was there last night (Friday night), the service was actually decent. We did have to wait a bit to order, but after that the waitress and busboy were on top of things.

I am giving a rating of 1 star because each visit leaves me wishing I had not chosen to eat here again. This time the food was just simply nauseating. It tasted like the processed food you get at those all-inclusive resorts, where everything seems to be made of the same ingredient and nothing has flavor. I had the Chicken Nono and she had the Chicken Marsala. They both lacked flavor and the sauces definitely came from a can. After a few bites we just were not able to swallow anymore.

The appetizer was the spinach artichoke dip with some bread. It was pretty good but a little bit on the pricey side at $11.

All in all, I spent $60 on an appetizer and two tasteless chicken dinners. We didnt even have alcohol - our drinks were a pepsi and a water. I feel completely ripped off and sorry to say, will never be returning. We couldnt finish our food and told the waitress not to bother with a box. After leaving the restaurant we found ourselves making comparisons to airplane food. We stopped for ice cream to get the flavor that Ric's left in our mouth out!

Food is not too great and their menu has everything on it; so I don't know if they do anything well.

Thanksgiving mistake!  This year I decided not to cook since it was just the two of us.  I've always enjoyed the food at Rics, so I ordered my holiday dinners expecting nothing less than what I usually receive when dining at Rics.  MISTAKE!  I kid you not, it was worse than, or equal to a frozen TV dinner!  Never again.

*we've only been here for football on Sundays* (several times)

    Pro's:
    1) Nice employees.
    2) Decent service.
    3) Breakfast dishes are really good.
    4) Wi-Fi!
    5) If you eat outside there is a nice patio area.

    So-So's:
    1) Food is hit or miss. For the prices they charge that sucks. For example, I ordered a sandwich and it came with Swiss cheese- all good except it was that processed Swiss like those American cheese slices. Very dissapointed.  However, we've always been happy with the chicken wings, especially the grilled California ones. The fries are good too. The bread the sandwiches and burgers come on are good quality.

    Con's:
    1) It gets LOUD in there! But it's Sunday football - so what are you gonna do?!
    2) No sound boxes, so we don't get to hear the game.

My husband and I tried this out on a whim. It was a holiday, so most non-chain restaurants were closed. I'm SO glad we did!

They have one of those menus that's a blend of everything- salads, french dip sandwiches, ribs, chicken marsala, etc etc. Their most extensive menu, however, is really their drink menu. Their bar area seems so be pretty popular.

Anyhow, what makes this place different is that it has a nice dark cool dining section, with browns and mauve's and high backed booths, which is wonderful...

and then they have a TON of flat screen tv's. I counted five on one wall in the bar alone- right in a row. But they have them in the dining area too. You cannot avoid them. But the volume is turned down quite a bit and if you don't want to watch, it's pretty easy not to.

Our favorite things: the customer service (you never have to wait for a refill... ever!), the food (fresh takes on old favorites... ate every last bite) and the privacy (we really did love those high backed booths).

When we went, we didn't see any kids running around, and everyone there seemed to be genuinely enjoying one another, the staff and the food.

Really, truly happy we stopped by. We used to drive to Thousand Oaks for this kind of experience and reasonable pricing, and it's good to know we don't have to.

Went to Rics because we had heard fabulous things. We were entirely disappointed! We were the first table seated out of 4 but the last one served! Was not offered bread as other tables were. We had to ask a completely different waitress to help us as ours was no where to be found. Food was OK, definitely not worth the wait or cost!

Only been here a couple times despite living 5 minutes away. But the times I have been here. The food has been great. Seems like you'll get better service sitting at the bat area.

YUM YUM YUM. I enjoyed there  spicy burger and it was juicy and flavorful from the first bite to the last. The fries were portioned right so your not over full. The chocolate brownie was awesome I could not stop eating and it was great with there coffee. The coffee did not taste like it was old or burned it was very good.

Went to Ric's tonight after receiving a promo as a new Camarillo resident.  The one word that comes to mind is "lackluster."

When we arrived at 7:20, we waited in the empty reception area and began to wonder if maybe they were done seating for dinner.  Finally, the hostess came over from the bar where she was socializing (I initially thought she was a customer) and offered to seat us.  She was nice enough, she even got my youngest son started on his place mat game, but then disappeared back into the bar.

Our server was also plenty nice...that is, for what we saw of her.  We were given more attention by the bus staff than anyone else.  What made it even more frustrating was seeing groups of waitresses standing around in the wait station near the kitchen chatting, chatting, and chatting some more.

The food was mediocre at best.  I ordered the fish tacos at the recommendation of our waitress.  The fish was lukewarm, the tortillas seemed stale (rubbery), and the beans had been on the plate so long that they had developed a dry crust around the edge.  Bleh.  My husband ordered the Tequila Lime Shrimp Pasta and said the shrimp was alright and the sauce was good, but I noticed that he only ate a little bit of the pasta.  One child ordered the hot dog and fries (fries were overdone, hot dog came in a split-apart bun...not good for a little one) and the other had the chicken tenders (which he inhaled, so they must have been pretty good) and fruit (which he wouldn't eat because he said the melon was dry and "yucky").

I hope we caught Ric's on an off night but I'm not really interested in returning given the chances of being served another meal like this.  At the prices being charged, Ric's really needs to reevaluate their restaurant business.

being a foodie from los angeles, a metropolitan city with so many food options and then las vegas, a city filled with restaurants by the best chefs in the world, i find it quite difficult to find decent dining here in camarillo.
i don't do national chain restaurants so i was pleased to hear that we were going to ric's.
but, i must admit, i was extremely skeptical.
so, i went in with the lowest expectations.
i was more than pleasantly surprised.

the food here was quite delicious.
i had the grilled fish tacos.
the cod was cooked perfectly, not over, not under.
the tortillas were nice and warm and tasty.
the slaw was fresh with a nice, tangy sauce that really complemented the fish.

my hubby had the fish n chips.
he finished his giant plate so i think he enjoyed it!

we also had the ahi stack.
the ahi was cooked just right, nice and pink on the inside.
the slaw mixture was very good and the sauces were tasty too.

we had a wonderful server who was very attentive and sweet.

all in all, an above average dining experience.
the next time we're in camarillo visiting family, we'll definitely make it a point to eat at ric's again.

Pretty legit. Walking distance from home makes it four star worthy. Occasionally you get the b-squad waitress crew. Be weary, you will know.

    So incredibly disappointed!!!

My niece is having her baptism & 1st birthday party in January. We were thinking of doing it at Ric's because they have the patio we could reserve all to ourselves. I'm planning 20- 25 people.

We ate here a long time ago and really enjoyed it. So last night we decided to order a few things that we may want on the menu for the event. We ordered the French dip which was ok, not bad but nothing great and the French fries were lacking flavor which was a precursor to the rest of the meals. We got the chicken tortilla soup. It was super spicy. I couldn't handle it. There was also no chicken to be found.

We got the orange shrimp, as it is the Sunday special, just a few shrimp that didn't have much flavor and a small amount of rice.

The tri tip was a decent amount, it was ok but a lil dry. Had to add lots of BBQ sauce. The mashed potatoes were lacking flavor and incredibly dry. I'm a huge mashed potato fan and this meal is served with a small scoop of potatoes, we had 4 people and there were potatoes left.

Chicken nono, it was the most expensive thing we ordered, $17 or $18 and not worth it! The chicken was tough and difficult to cut, a few pieces of fat. Minimal amount of sauce atop the same dry potatoes.

I am not the best cook but I'm confident that I could do much better. Normally this would have been unfortunate but  now I'm at a loss where to have our event. Camarillo doesn't have a lot of options but I'm glad we tried the food beforehand because had we had this event and this was the food quality it would have ruined it.

Aside from the lack of flavor and being dried out, both my Mom and I felt queezy after. I didn't eat much at all.

I'm disappointed to have to say I definitely do not recommend this restaurant. :(

Ric's is an interesting place.  It started off as a fine-dining type of restaurant (which was excellent), but over the years has transformed into a sports bar.  However, this is not your typical sports bar as the food and menu selection here is excellent.  They do quite a business on game nights (in which it can get a little loud).  If you're looking for a quiet casual dining place, this is NOT it on game nights.  If you are looking to grab a beer and watch The Laker game, then this is the place to go.  They have a full bar and excellent bar food in addition to the regular menu items.

This place is also popular with an older crowd.  If you are under 30, then I suggest going to The Club House instead.  I would also warn you that game nights can get rowdy, but other nights are low-key.

Update 2012:  Ric's still has good food, but the sports bar part is getting out of control.   The last few times, there have been several Golf Hooligans populating the bar area and creating a ruckus.  had to switch tables because they were drinking so much that the bartender cut them off.

I haven't gone here for happy hour yet, but we have gone many times for breakfast. Super chill atmosphere. It always feels like breakfast in Vegas for me and my husband. The food is EXCELLENT and the service is very good as well! Not the most extensive breakfast menu, but the options they have are so good you really don't need more. Very good coffee as well. The kids LOVE this place as much as we do!

My mom, my four year old and I went on a Sunday morning for breakfast.  Everything was great and the server was really sweet and helpful.  I actually couldn't resist the burger that is titled something like "almost Bob's," being a lover of Bob's Big Boy (although there were several things that looked really yummy for breakfast).  The server warned me, it is just Bob's-inspired, which was really helpful, so I wasn't expecting an exact copy.  It was really delicious and actually better than Bob's.  Will definitely return!

Also:  I would say, based upon my Sunday morning experience, that it is quite kid-friendly.  I haven't been there in the evening.

We always are seated right away but it is really loud in there because most of the restaurant is a bar. Drinks are usually served rather quickly. Our server John was very helpful but we weren't always able to find him and there wasn't any other servers around that we could ask for refills and so on. I would only suggest going here if you had a lot of time to spend or if you were just going for drinks.

Went here for dinner and drinks.  A friend brought me to Ric's and she raves about it.  When we walked in, it wasn't busy at all, I wasn't sure what to expect.  To be honest, I was expecting mediocre food, at best greasy bar food.
However, I was proven wrong.  I really enjoyed their food.  I had their Margherita pizza.  Tasty!  My friend had their fish tacos.  Both very good.
Decently priced food, and pretty good wine list.  Unsure about their beer selection as I do not drink it.
Its a great place for a casual dinner and drink.  Will definitely be back!

Went here for lunch today with some co-workers and friends as a pre-birthday lunch celebration.  I love this place!  Even though it kind of has a sports bar feel, the food definitely is not sports bar quality.  The place was very clean and the service was great, our server, an asian gentleman (I am so sorry I did not get his name) was top notch and so were the busboys coming by filling beverages as needed.  I had the Santa Fe chicken sandwich which entailed a huge grilled chicken breast with a whole pepper stuffed with cheese on top, grilled onions and the best roll I have ever had, it also came with seasoned fries and a chipotle mayo to dip it in.  Also, because the owners of Ric's also are partners in some way with Ottavio's Italian restaraunt they serve the exact same rolls in there bread basket, yum!!!!  I can't wait to come back and try the other items on their menu!

We LOVE Ric's! Their sweet potato fries are to die for. Yum. The Tuscan chicken wrap is yummy as is everything we have ever tried here. The desserts are amazing if you have room for them. Always good specials too. Great bar & wine list. The servers are always friendly & attentive as well as the busboys. Great place to go watch a game with giant TVs everywhere. Great happy hour! You can also have a nice, romantic dinner in the dining room. They have a great covered patio for outdoor dining and it's a great place for a large party. We'll be back for sure!

This always happens to be the place my family and I head to whenever we want a good meal with decent portions at a good price, but isn't as ghetto as TGI Fridays or Chili's. This joint has a great laid-back atmosphere but you get some serious food!

Of the times we've gone for dinner, I've NEVER been disappointed. I really enjoy the Fish & Chips at Ric's as well as their burgers. I don't think there's a single thing on the menu that isn't good.

As for the bar, all I can say is that any place that serves STELLA on tap is A-OK in my books. I've heard they have an awesome Happy Hour, but since I don't live in the area anymore, I haven't had the opportunity to check it out.

***NOTICE*** Ric's now serves BREAKFAST on the weekends until 2pm and man was it great. My whole family got something great-tasting and much better than anything you'd get at Denny's or IHop. The waitress we had was amazing.

I wouldn't go here on a first date, but I would come here for a drink or a quick bite.  The service is always quick and friendly.  When you first walk in, you get overwhelmed by the big bar area.  The dining tables are to the right.  The chicken curry salad is excellent.  The Caesar salad is pretty decent too.  I also like the seared ahi which is done perfectly - not too cooked or raw.  Even though this is a bar, they have a children's menu.  My gripe is that they charged my $3 for a kid's apple juice.  WTF?  I should have just gone to Starbucks for juice.

I wish I had heard of this place before, Ric's is pretty rockin'! I took my date here a couple nights ago and was surprised how crowded it was at 5:30 on a Wednesday night.

We got there just in time for a couple happy hour martinis, and the music started at 6pm. The two guys sounded really good, although I missed hearing a live drummer. But loudness can be an issue in a small place like this and there's not really enough room for a full band, anyway.

The calamari appetizer was good, not too greasy like some places, however the dipping sauce was fairly bland and uninteresting. The blue cheese iceberg wedge was good, it's hard to get that one wrong. The tortilla soup came up weak, lacking tortilla strips(!) avocado and sour cream, and had way too much cumin (burp). My date liked her Caesar salad but I wish she would eat more, she's getting skinny. Cheap date!

Our waitress Priscilla was friendly and on the ball. The wine list is good, and $12 for a righteous glass of Ferrari Carano cab is not unreasonable.

    I'll be back.

Awesome place to come to watch a game and have some higher-end appetizers.  Big beers at a reasonable price.  The pizzas are outstanding and I recommend the Tuscan Chicken Wrap.  I always get good service - even the bus staff is quick and helpful.

11/2010 Update:  Our newest favorite menu item are the sweet potato fries.  They are great as an appetizer or a side with the tuscan chicken wrap.  The waitstaff continues to be excellent.

My co-workers and I went there for happy hour a couple of times- their happy hour prices are great, believe me. $2 beers! (I don't know if they still have that)-- and the bathrooms are clean. That's always good.

The very last time we went- the service was really slow and it felt as if the waiter had forgotten about us- and the table next to us.

I used to really enjoy the happy hour here with my friends.
Tonight was the first night in a while I've been there. I didn't go with my girl friends (which is another story all itself) so I was just happy to get the pot stickers I used to enjoy and a drink at happy hour prices.
Apparently there are no happy hour prices for food anymore because 4 pot stickers for $8.95 is not really what I was looking for but now I know. They are still tasty but not enough to pay almost $9 for. I also had the Turkey Wrap which was tasty enough (hence the 2 stars).
I'd go here again for just drinks and watching a ball game but it's just not the same as I remembered. My bill at the end of the night, put a damper on my evening for sure.

My husband and I went to Ric's for dinner twice, I think. The only thing I remember is that the food was good but overpriced.

We like to go to Ric's for breakfast. If you have every tried to have breakfast in Camarillo on a Sunday, you know that you have to wait forever wherever you go. You don't have to wait at Ric's though. You can get a table every time.

They serve breakfast until noon. It is a little more expensive than breakfast elsewhere, but they serve you a nice little basket of blueberry muffin tops while you wait, which eases the pain a little.

The waiters here need a course on Waiting 101.

For real-- they were horrible. I arrived to Ric's a few minutes after my family had arrived. Once seated, I was not given silverware or water...I had to wait and ask for that. My Mom's coffee wasn't refilled--ever. She had to ask for that. My pancakes arrived without syrup, my Mom's potatoes without ketchup. We had to ask for syrup and ketchup. Later-- once we asked for the bill (after sitting around staring at our waitress for 10 minutes), she brought it back...with no damn receipt.

We were temped to leave right then and there. Is it too difficult to return our credit card *and* a receipt to sign??? Once we did get the receipt (after waiting 15 minutes, staring at the waitress *again*), it arrived with a total amount...it wasn't itemized.

WTF?? The only redeeming points for this restaurant is the cubed potatoes, which my mom and sis loved...I had a short stack of buttermilk pancakes (which means 2), and sausages. They tend to serve a lot here, on big plates...so if you aren't a large cavernous hungry person at breakfast, I'd recommend ordering off the a la carte menu. We arrived at 9AM on a Sunday morning by the way-- so the level of service we got should have been better, since there were only a few other parties seated. Also-- one of the waitstaff seemed either drugged up or hungover (a curly haired boy who spilled ice all over an adjacent table.)

    The bathrooms were nice however.

Expense accounts. Thank goodness for them. My co-workers and I went here for a luncheon. I can honestly say it's basically, over-priced regular food. Yes, I know you're in Camarillo. Yes, I know your food looks "pretty". Is it really worth the prices you're charging? Heck to the n-o!! I had a wrap (which was decently sized), but I wasn't impressed. It was something that I probably could've gotten from Subway and at fraction of the price. The wait staff/hostess were really friendly, but fine dining? Nice try.

Happy hour = YES. Dinner = not so much. I think Ric's is pretty overpriced and not all that great for a regular meal. Happy hour, however, is FABULOUS. Good drink specials, and even awesomer food specials. I think it's about $3 for appetizers like toasted ravioli, spring rolls, etc. which are all really good.

I'd skip the actual meal, though. Honestly. Although, apparently, they have BYOB wine Mondays and Tuesdays, which could be fun. I've never tried it.

Honestly, I was lured to this restaurant by the TV ads. It sounded like such a cool place to go. A place where everybody knows your name and they'll know exactly what you want. Unfortunately.. no..I am not a fan at all.. Don't get me wrong I love a good happy hour-- let me tell you.

The appetizers for Happy Hour was not good at all-- I believe we got something fried perhaps it was Calamari and there was NO CALAMARI! I ordered a Santa Fe-ish salad and man I was expecting so much more. It was not up to par for the price I paid.

I would only recommend this place to people who like to pay high prices for mediocre food. They're only saving grace was that their alcohol was pretty cheap! Whoo hoo!

Try the Island Thursdays happy hour!  This restaurant is good, but is overpriced.  They contain expensive type food and you will probably think this place belongs in LA, but it's in Camarillo.  I don't mind.  I would stay away from the extremely expensive stuff because it's not THAT good.  I liked the chicken with the caper sauce and their hawaiian pizza.  The crab cakes weren't bad either.  Stay away from the coconut chicken because it's overcooked and flavorless.
