Hotel restaurants are the best! Or they make you wanna smack yo granny. I arrived at River City Grille knowing two things. One was that it was inside the hotel I was staying at. The other thing was that it was still open and serving food. Convenience and food availability were the order of the evening.
I ordered pretzel bread with cheese sauce but let my coworker/travel buddy nosh on that. I did try a piece and it was pretty tasty.
For dinner I had the filet with fries and 4 cheese mac n' cheese. The filet was a decent cut of meat but overpriced by about $8 for what it was. The fries were so forgettable I ate all of three of them and gave up. The mac n' cheese was mediocre at best. I love mac n' cheese. I love all types and even enjoy Kraft. I would eat Kraft over this mac n' cheese any day. The pasta was overcooked, it was barely warm and the cheese sauce was bland and uneventful. I blackened the bowl with enough pepper to kill a mongoose and still thought it lacked any flavor... it was the yellow blackhole of flavor destruction. I finished most of it because for what this meal was going to cost I needed to eat more than just the filet.
I also tried a bit of an apple crumble pie with vanilla ice cream and that was pretty tasty. I could have demolished the whole thing... but I also haven't had any sweets in nearly two months so it may have seemed way more awesome than it actually was.
This place boils down to being too expensive for what it is... bland food that is poorly prepared. But really... isn't the point of a hotel restaurant to provide food when nothing else is open? So in that vein it does it's job.
    Meh.
