I cannot tell you how good this place is. This is the one locals suggest and is the only prawn truck. Fun fact, food trucks were very popular in Hawaii before it became a thing in the US and Canada (mainly thanks for the Food Network)...

So Prawns - they are honestly the size of mini lobsters. 1 lb might get you 4. Get it with brown rice (I have no idea why but Brown rice is so different in Hawaii...). Sauces, get the garlic butter (of course) and then the Korean one.

One platter is enough for 3 - and that goes for the cholesterol as well.

When you are done, make sure to put the prawn juices and extra sauce into the rice and give it a good mix. Heavenly. Or Prawny... however you wish to see it.

Oh, but it does come with the head... otherwise how will you know it's fresh? So it might be looking at you as you eat it.... but they have their own farms at the back, it's open for viewing!

i have to say that I've passed up Romy's on Kamehameha before just because it wasn't a name brand like Giovanni's or Macky's that I recognized. Tsk, tsk. I should have been coming here all along!

It's true. They have their own shrimp farm. Their shrimp are sweeter and huge! And from what I heard, the other trucks use frozen shrimp? Whatever the case maybe, Romy's is much better tasting. I stopped going all the way up to Kahuku for the shrimp trucks because I was no longer impressed and tired of peeling shrimp. Needless to say, Romy's has given me a little attitude adjustment. I WILL be coming back!

    uuhhh..

Went here yesterday with my boyfriend to see if it was anything like people said it was.. Unfortunately, it was honestly, okay?? I don't see what the hype is about? It really was just okay.. Not anything that'll change your life or anything..

We went on a Sunday afternoon, around 2pm. There was a small amount of people and though that we just missed the crowd.. Took a look at the menu and decided on the Garlic Butter Shrimp combo. It came with a small tossed salad, buttered corn on the cob and of course the Garlic Butter shrimp on rice. It took about 30-35 minutes to prepare was a total bummer! I guess it was alright compared to the wait time other people had shortly after us (30-45mins?!) The gentlemen that took our order just took our names, gave us or order number and told us to pay when our order was ready.

While waiting for our food I paid close attention the the cooks in the kitchen through the window. I notice that one of the cooks was wearing a glove on one of her hands and though, 'that must be for when she has to grab shrimp out of the cooler' (cooler?? who stores raw products in a cooler? cant you get sick?) As I was watching her I notice that she wore the same glove to touch other things in the kitchen area as well? UNSANITARY! Isn't that some kind of violation?! I was grossed out! Luckily for me, a gentlemen was making my order!

When the woman at the window called out my name and number I went to the window. She repeated my name and number and began to open the container to show me my order.. At that time I wanted to just get my food and go.. That is until, she mentioned the price.. $45!?! For two combo's you got to be kidding me right?! But, starving and cranky I just payed her and went to our table.

The 35 minute wait for shrimp that was pretty much, okay?! I dont know about that. I guess I'll stick to my usual place in Kahuku to get my Shrimp fix..

HAHA I think it true when they say your a "Giovanni's or a Romy's" person when it comes to a usual Shrimp Shack in Kahuku & I'm declaring that I'm a GIOVANNI'S gal!
