Oftentimes in the 707, it's hard to find a place to watch sports, get some beers, and not have to worry about being given the stink eye. Fact of life in Vallejo anyways. Option 1: do it at home. Caveat to that: the beer is not so freely flowing and you'll pretty much be limited to whatever's on stock at say... Safeway or FoodMaxx. But that adds in the extra chore/dilemma of having to go to he store, buy beer, and then driving back home. Well, a very decent option is available, not too far away in Benicia.
Rookies is a decent spot to get your beer/sports fix on. They've go a decent amount of beers on tap and by the bottle. They also have a full-on bar, so you can get your mixed drinky drink on as well. If you plan to be with a group though, I would say to come early. This place gets packed. By that, I mean all of Benicia and probably a good amount of Vallejo comes out in full force as the night progresses. If you come too late, you won't really be able to do much here.
In short, it's a nice little spot to be able to watch the game and get a drink. But again, come early if you want to be comfortable. Otherwise, be prepared for standing room only... possibly with a long wait for a drink to be in hand.
PROTIP: Some nights, the delicious Got Plate Lunch is parked right outside. Order some great Hawaiian food and tell em Eric A. from Yelp sent ya!
I like the sports montage about the bar. Totally great and have some energetic staff. The country music sure isn't what fits my motif in Benicia, but they were all thoughtful enough. Aside of some of us driving and us ordering more non-alcoholic beverages than booze (Which got the joking  comment of, "What? Wow. You guys know how to party.. " Sarcastically.
I've seen the place when it's packed. If you love to see any Bay Area game play in town, you wanna go here for the energy and fun.
I like Rookies. It's always got a great crowd, the servers and bar tenders are friendly.
The drinks are affordable, and bringing in your own food? Ah-mazing!
I've never had a bad time at Rookie's which means I keep coming back! :) what more can you ask for in a local little sports bar?
The Gang's all Here!
This is the most chill sports bar I've ever been to where you can bring your own food, watch a game in surround sound or in silence, and still be able to hear the conversations going on around you.
Well....actually this might only be accurate cause the crew and I were out on a wednesday night watching the Warriors get slapped by Miami( guess it was payback time). Anyway I had a drink called Da Bears, it hit the spot to make all my troubles go away. Despite the guy with his loud dog barking( and no he wasn't blind) and these fools playing Yatzee at the bar ( only in benicia!), I 'm definatley going to kick it here more often.
I'm a pretty big Sports Fan, and a Lover of Alcohol.
Especially, since I have no coordination for anything such as playing sports...
I might as well divulge in Alcohol, to further the solution!
I strongly believe they should always go hand and hand, Alcohol and Sports.
And "Rookies" know this that's why has "Beer Pong"
So when I don't have an open invite to a friends house,
I choose "Rookies" as a pretty cool stomping ground for my sports needs.
With big screens everywhere you might find it hard to concentrate on a game.
Not to be sexiest over being sexy, alot of cute women folk must love sports,
because a bunch seem to come to this place, that's fine by me.
The place gets pretty packed, but they run drinks specials all the time.
You can assume the locals are always here and random older to younger crowd
or die hard fans and friends. Drinks are reasonably priced and they with let
you bring in outside food...which is awesome!
"Got Plate Lunch" A local food vendor offers amazing food,
In which makes "Hula-Hut" and "L&l B.B.Q." Want to piss in there pants...
Overall a good experience, Now if only we can make all of our bay-area teams win!
This place was pretty cool, a last chance to hang out with friends before a 2nd surgery, so I had a good time! The place was packed for the 49er's and Giants game, but there was always a place to sit... One of the cooler bars I have been to in a long time, go here, enjoy a Sam Adam's Octoberfest brew, and watch a game...
Review Source:I really like Rookie's. Not pretentious. You can generally find a good mix of people in here. The prices - the prices! I am a beer drinker, and I love craft beer; not only does Rookie's carry some nice beer - it's not even expensive! VERY reasonably priced, as far as I am concerned.
I have come on several occasions - Christmas Tree Lighting, Superbowl, by myself on a random Wednesday afternoon, etc. and service is ALWAYS good. The bartenders always are helpful with suggestions, and prompt service! Even when I have come during the Lighting ceremony (when it was ridiculously packed), it didn't take more than a couple of minutes to get our drinks.
The place is always clean, and more importantly - so are the bathrooms!
This is always the place I want to be at when I drink in Benicia.
Living across the street from here has become a blessing and a curse, but I can honestly say its more good than bad. The bartenders, servers and door guys are all really nice and do their best, which stands out in a town full of snobby bars. The food trucks out front are really creative and I've enjoyed trying each one. The renovations are so nice compared to what it used to be and I look forward to seeing the changes in the future to add in a kitchen.
Review Source:So far it's my favorite bar in Benicia to grab a drink and relax. There are some oddities however. First of all, their selection of beer is pretty damn good. They don't have a million beers on tap, but they carry bottle versions of a lot of beers. Many of which I am not familiar with. Second, I have stopped by here on Friday and Saturday evenings and they were dead. Like 8-10 people in the whole place. It's kind of strange, really. Third, it's a good place to watch a game. In fact, when the 49ers play that's the only time I see this place filled to capacity. I definitely recommend. If they had food, they'd get 5 stars from me. You can, however, go next door to Kinders and order some pulled pork sandwiches and bring them back.
Review Source:I like the popcorn and all the tv's. Â Service is spotty and sometimes good sometimes . ??? Â No food. But I have been there when a taco / burrito truck has been there which the food was really good. Â So I will be back , I was told eventually they will have food, like the taco truck idea, it's different.
Review Source:This is the best bar in Benicia.
Pint Night on Wednesday is great for trying out new micro brews, or some that you already love. Rookies has 20-something flat screen TVs and they show every pro football game, not just the Raiders and 49ers.
There is no food for sale, but you can bring your own or order from the food carts outside.
Try the White Gummie Bear shooter and Fireball whiskey!
I think it's kinda weird that a bar in Benicia is doing it right. I would love to check this place out on a Sunday for football. All the TV's are phenomenal. They are angled so that you can see them from virtually any seat.
It's good to see local Benicia people making good use of the waste of space that was called Choices.
I used to say, "Choices, when you have none."
But now Rookies is an actual spot. It's much better than the Rellik which is trying to be something that it's not.
There's a food truck outside if you get hungry and the prices for drinks are decent.
However, after midnight on weekends, this place can sometimes live up to it's name.
Love most sports bars... and we do love this one too. Great atmosphere and the staff is awesome!!! Wish they had a kitchen for food, but having an outside food service venue makes up for it. You can even bring in your own too. We do recommend this place to watch your favorite sports...
Review Source:I've been meaning to write this review for some time, and finally find myself with the time to do it. Â
Rookie's has quickly become one of our favorite places to go in Benicia for many reasons...the laid back, sports-oriented atmosphere, the plethora of TV's that broadcast  every sports event you could ever want to watch, the friendly and attentive bartenders, the specials (Pint Nights on Wednesdays and NFL Sundays), and the extensive cocktail menu. Â
We always feel welcome at Rookies (which is more than I can say for some other Benicia watering holes), and without exception have a great time every time we visit. Â Dave, James, and Chris take excellent care of us, and we can't wait to stop in next Sunday!
Rookie's Sports Bar is the best place in town!!! Me and all my friends go there we can go casual or dress up. We don't have to worry about what were wearing. They have specials almost every night which keeps us looking forward to going back! The drinks are affordable and the atmosphere is great!!!! I would defiantly recommend Rookie's!!!
Review Source:Nestled at in an area that might look sleepy although once you step inside it is alive with chatter and lots of tv screens. Â Service can be a bit slow at first they aren't ignoring you, just busy. Â The tv's are n different channels so you are not stuck watching the same crap during your visit. Â Even packed that acoustics are low enough where you can have a nice conversation with those you are with.
Review Source:An awesome new bar in Benicia serving a wide array of tasty drinks and fun atmosphere. They just opened and the place is really nice. They've got a ton of TVs around playing a variety of sports, and lots of seating. Great staff and great drinks. The manager came up to us and introduced herself, and the whole staff was just super friendly! Can't wait to go back!
